That's good news.

I intend to watch that show 'someday' (but not 'til after I go through all of BG, which I won't start 'til next summer...).

GREAT news!

Since it's a prequel, will it be easy to pick up without having seen BSG? I have kicked myself 99,000 times for failing to begin when BSG first premiered....It's on my DVDs for Christmas list....

Well gang.......I think we only have four more shows to go. I've been dragging it out because I don't want this little Angel/Buffy saga to end.

I have to say that "Smile Time" was one of my very faves of the season. When Angel was turned into a 'wee puppet man', OMG........simply brilliant and hilarious. The little Angel puppet trying to beat up Spike while Spike was cracking up the entire time--hahahaha!!!

I am NOT too thrilled with them killing off Fred and replacing her with this Elyria creature. But I am amazed at what an awesome actress Amy Acker is because these two characters couldn't be more different.

Still loving Wes......I think he is so sexy and dark now. If you would have told me I would feel this way about him way back in season 1, I would have said you were out of your freaking tree. Such growth for all of these characters!

Oh! We just watched the episode where Connor comes back and both my hubby and I were like........"What's up? We don't hate him anymore!" I think it was a little bit of the actor maturing and a whole lot of the writing making him not such an asshole. I actually kind of missed him. This series really makes one change their minds constantly! I just adore it. And David Boreanaz is still the best.....I adore him and his interpretation of Angel. I think he is way underrated.......probably because of his good looks. Still loving the Spike/Angel 'bromance', to be sure. Season 5 is definitely one of my faves, if not THE best for me.

Yeah, Smile Time is great, great fun.

Knew you'd like Wesley.

Acker's great, yeah... sad Fred went away, though, too.

Love, love, LOVED Cordy's return visit. It just felt......so right. And CC looked FABULOUS after having just had a baby......OMG! Her relationship with Angel seemed to pick right back up from where they left off before all that shitty stuff happened last season. I was sad to see her go.

Gate--you never ruined or spoiled a thing in regards to Smile Time. So in honor of that brilliant episode, I give you Angel aka the "wee puppet man". :lmfao:

"You're A Wee Little Puppet Man!!!"

I have GOT to watch this again soon.

Angel to W7H employees: What are you looking at?

Spike, nonchalantly: They're looking at the wee little puppet man.

From Whedonesque....

The article isn't anything amazing, but check out the fan episode of Fluffy, the English Vampire Slayer, and 18 minute long actual episode. This is why I love the internet. People have moved beyond fanvids with screencaps and background music and are making their own shows. Okay, not professional-level...but still, the effort, the attention to detail, the sheer love of the show this represents. It actually plays better than most 50's era cheesemonster films. :applause:

Aww, you guys......I'm so bummed......we watched the series finale of Angel tonight. I've been dragging it out........putting it off.......because I didn't want this little journey to end. OMG, I thought it was an awesome finale.........one of my alltime faves, to be sure. God, I love this show. I seriously do NOT get that the idiot network (aka Senior Partners) canceled such a fantastic show.

Fave/big moments of the finale:

**Spike getting drunk in order to get his courage up so he could read poetry in front of a bar crowd!!! And the crowd loving him! OMG, that was freaking hysterical!!! I love him.

**It was so cool how everyone spent the rest of that day "as if it were their last". Angel goes to visit Connor.....who has his memories back and is actually cool. Lorne sings a song at a bar. Gunn goes to visit that chick at the homeless shelter. Wesley spent the day taking care of Illyria. Good stuff.

**Okay, I've changed my mind again. I ended up loving Illyria. Who knew?!? OMG....that scene at the end when she turns into Fred because Wes is dying (I can't believe they killed him!!!!!).......I was in tears. I love those two.

**Connor saving his daddy just as that evil guy from Firefly was going to stake him. That was awesome! The little twit turned out to be not so bad. I don't love him but he gets two thumbs up in season 5.

I can't believe Lorne shot and killed Lindsey for Angel. I thought he was helping them. I don't get that. Poor Lorne at the end......he was so sad and downtrodden. Even when he sang his last song. I definitely love him!

Simply awesome finale.......awesome show......I miss them all already! :wub1:

You've hit all the great moments in the finale.

God, I love this show. I seriously do NOT get that the idiot network (aka Senior Partners) canceled such a fantastic show.
I simply cannot describe the outrage and anger on the net when this news hit. What's really amazing is that Joss had Season 6 already plotted out and then had to scramble to rewrite the end of S5 for some measure of closure and hit the ball out of the park.

David Fury has admitted that the cancellation could be partly Joss' fault. Every year, the show was on tenterhooks waiting until the last possible moment for renewal and every year they got the renewal. The story goes like this: Midway during S5, Joss, (rightfully thinking he'd earned some cred?) demanded some advance notice since he had that S6 plot outline. Meanwhile, the WB was thinking of a Dark Shadows reboot and felt there wasn't room for two vampire shows (boy did THEY lack foresight into the whole vampire explosion around the corner). Since Joss wanted an answer and since they thought they had DS, they cancelled Angel. Then DS went nowhere, and Fury said if Joss had just waited for DS to implode, Angel would have probably been renewed.

sob!

There was talk of a series with Spike/Illyria/Wesley and other various combos, but they never took off, partly because some of the actors were just ready to do something else, and partly because Joss was furious with networks and wanted to do the Serenity movie and whatnot.

Personally, as much as I like David Boreanaz and Bones, I miss seeing James Marsters on a regular basis. And not just because he's such fine eye candy, even approaching 50 (He looks so hot in the SyFy junker High Plains Invader!). JM deserves a regular gig or a higher profile career, imo. Guess the fact that he's on the short side costs him some parts.

*******************
Rapid Fire memories and impressions:

Origin

Connor is finally redeemed and turns out not to be such a little shit. I grudgingly have to admit that growing up for 18 years in a hell dimension probably had an effect on the poor guy.

Time Bomb

OMG...they killed the blond one! OMG.... Every time I see thins, I still flinch when Spike gets dusted. What a cool plot. It even, almost, made sense. lol

The Girl in Question

Spike and Angel fight over Buffy, yet again. lol Fear of flying! Rome's branch of W&H. "We shall speak of it no more. {spit}" :fall: (I use that phrase and accent all the time now. Hubby, of course, gets the reference, but friends and family thing I'm strange. Ah well. Too bad for them.)

ANDREW the stud. lololol

Tons of Fanfic about Buffy and the Immortal. Some of the novelizations suck, some are good.

I hated this eppy first time around because like most of fandom I was bitter about the cancellation and upset with no SMG. This was NOT supposed to be the *last word* about the Spike-Buffy-Angel triangle. Now I love it.

Power Play

Dark. DARK. Angel killed Drogyn. Even though Drogyn okayed it. The underbelly of W&H. The whole moral ambiguity isn't getting resolved. Many fans HATE that Angels' actions imply that evil can never be defeated (Joss is an atheist, and, it seems if he has any religious leaning, it's more towards the idea of eternal balance in the grand scheme) and that it was okay do do something evil to make something good happen.

Not Fade Away ~ Series Finale!

All kinds of awesome. You nailed it.

****************

I should note that most people HATE the comic book followups for Angel and Buffy even though they have Joss's cooperation and input. I kept up with the first 20 issues, and, well maybe the plots would have played better live, but I was seriously underwhelmed. There are some cute bits, some cool ideas, but the big arcs don't work for me and the format just isn't what I like. A big debate today is whether the comics constitute canon, given Joss has *officially* approved them and worked on them personally. I'm with the camp that says Joss would have gone in MUCH different directions if he was doing the shows instead of the comic books.

I just saw this over at Youtube and had to share. Ahhh, the memories......our introduction to Lorne. Andy Hallett's sudden death was truly a loss to the acting community.....and millions of Angel fans. :'(

Okay, it's a year old....it's wrong about Buffy ever being canceled (it switched networks), and there's a couple typos....and yeah Spike was a *tell truth to power* kinda guy (who also lied).

But it's a really fun read.

I miss Buffy and Angel and Spike and Wesley and Fred and Willow and Giles and Dawn and Lorne!

Every time we watch Fringe and they're showing the previews for Bones, I get a little thrill whenever I see that adorable smile on David Boreanaz. Such a cutie. :wub1:

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- Joss Whedon fans always ask why he doesn't go to cable. They just might get their wish.

"Actually his representatives called and scheduled a lunch, I think I'm supposed to have lunch with Joss in the next two or three weeks," FX president John Landgraf told reporters when asked about working with the cult-favorite producer during the network's executive session at the TCA this morning.

"And I have enormous respect for him," he continued. "And by the way, if you look at Shawn Ryan who created 'The Shield' and is running 'Terriers,' Shawn learned at the feet of Joss Whedon, the Joss Whedon school. And Carlton Cuse by the way, as well. So I don't really know Joss, but I'm really looking forward to meeting him. I love his stuff."

Whedon's "Dollhouse" wraps its two season run on Friday, January 29 at 8:00/7:00c on FOX.

--

Ryan worked on Angel, but Cuse didn't work on a Whedon show... think he was thinking of someone else, there...

Anyway. I hope Joss returns to tv 'sooner' than 'later', and I think cable-over-network would most definitely be the way to go.

He will be awesome on Cable. Tho W'esque is saying Joss requested the lunch, not FX, so maybe that gives it a little different spin....
