Since Gatekeeper loves to harp on how great a couple Mindy and Philip could have been. Here is my list of couples that I believe were not given a chance or didn't stay together long enough.
1. Josh and Harley-at first I didn't like how quick the writers were doing this after Reva's death, and I had a problem with the age difference but they had chemistry and I loved them together. Too bad Robert Newman left the show and that put an end to that pairing. I kind of wished they would have wrote Harley out with him. Imagine Reva coming back from the dead and Josh married to Harley and Harley having raised her kids-that would have been a great triangle.
2. Roger and Sonnie-I never saw this coming. They were only sharing scenes for maybe a couple weeks before Michelle Forbes left. They had Sonnie quickly wise up about Roger and leave. But when they first started sharing scenes I couldn't wait for the possibilities.
3. Dinah and Jonathan-They had such great chemistry. I remember Jonathan opening her robe to expose her fake pregnancy. Unfortunately, DZ was intent on his kissing cousins storyline so Dinah and Jonathan were kaput quickly. I wish TP would have come back sooner-A Shayne/Dinah/Jonathan triangle would have been great this summer.
4. Annie and Philip-You could tell this was where the writers were headed when Philip helped her detox in the cabin. (That scene, Reva's trial and Annie throwing herself down the stairs are my favorite Annie scenes.) That was a great episode and Cynthia Watros should have been nominated for an emmmy for it that year. But the new writers came in and made Annie a villian (the best thing they could have ever done for Cyntia Watros).
5. Harley and Rick-the chemistry they had surprised me but the writers wanted their Gush. So the writers used the pairing to make Rick one of her babby daddies. If they weren't going to make them a couple, why did they bother writing in Beth Ethler's pregnancy?
Oh God, you will have the more crazy BE fans and the Gush fans all over you on this. I too like Rick and Harley, he didnt act like such a doufus with her ( well, sorry. I can't get the stink of Wheeler/Kreizman's version of Rick as a loser doufus out of my head) and she didnt act quite as uh "sharp," with him. His lighthearted energy seemed to calm her down a bit and I think she would have made a good Mo replacement...at her best BE/Harley were identifiable to the audience as a normal looking woman trying to raise her kids and deal with her family and still have a life of her own. As soon as GUSH happened she became Reva2, the romantic heroine who no man could resist and no villian could resist screwing over. I know BE would have put up a fuss about being exposition girl, but too bad, the show needed it and she would have been good in the role.

I too love Dinah and Jonathon, both of them have an almost, god this sounds stupid, but feral sexuality. To pair Jonathon with the limp biscuit known as Tams took all the energy out the character. I liked Jonathon the quasi villian not Jonathon the bad boy with the heart of gold misunderstood soap staple bore he became.

But I also like the Jonathon and Sandy chemistry and for a couple of episodes it looked like they were going to go there, at least backstory wise and have a besotted Sandy still in love with Jonathon. But even though the actor looked more interested in TP then he did SG, they didnt go there.

Another couple, and the crazy Purple Dream freaks will want to kill me, but Olivia would have been so much better with Holly then that sad sack of a character they put her with. And if Holly became a leather jacket wearing lezzie, all the better, I FLOVED her stalker garb! Olivia also has a nice chemistry with Rick, in their "friends," scenes you can tell CC and MOL like each other, and it would have been a nice storyline (certainly not a great love) for Rick to get it on with that Boobilicious Sex Goddess for a while. I mean, the woman bagged that Troll knows as Buzz instead????

Oh, I also like Buzz and Nola together. She was the one woman on the show who would actually tell him to just "Shut the Fuck Up already," and I think Brown's "tartness," would work well with Deas over the top antics. They would have been the Ralph and Alice Kramden of daytime.....Lillian is far too much a wimp for Buzz, he needs someone to tell him to cram it up his ass once in a while.
