I still completely love this show! The characters and the stories are great, but the underlying stories are the best part to me. I love the relationships on this show. I freaking LOVE Earl! |

It was nice to see Benito Martinez from the Shield , I wonder if he is going to be a regular now? Was the girl in the hospital bed the same one that was in Grace's dream? |

2buddy4u...I think the girl is the same one with Grace and Earl in the dream. I know she was the one that Grace was trying to get info out of when the girl got shot. But I'm not understanding why Grace is so involved with her now. Don't know if it's because she feels it's her fault, or if Earl said something to Grace and I missed that part. My understanding of it was that Earl had been visiting the girl before she got shot....but I'm lost as to why she's still in the story. Musta missed something somewhere. Amy I agree, the relationships are really interesting on this show...more so to me than the "crime" part of the show. And I felt so bad for Rhetta (sp)..losing her family home :( |

Oh man, not only did Rhetta lose her ancestral farm but Ham messed with her with a lottery ticket! What the F*&# was that!? I kinda like how she got him back with the birds. But really? Is no one sensitive to anything that is going on with anyone else? F. Murray Abraham was really good as the other angel. Although I certainly did not get a 'good' angel vibe from him. It is no wonder his score is so low! I loved seeing Grace go home and see her face totally light up with seeing Earl and Gus sitting there waiting. I hope that the girl wakes from her coma soon. There were hints of her from the very first season. I would love to know what the connection is. I just hope it is not another repeat of the Leon Cooley thing. I don't think I can take another one of those! |

yep...that Leon part sure did drag out, and then they killed him off anyway. Thought maybe he might pop in to see Grace now that he's dead...but guess they can't make a killer an angel. |

I really like this show. They've toned down the superficial outrageousness of HH's grace and are really focused on exploring issues of faith, forgiveness, and survival in a harsh world. Tonight's episode was great. Loved the struggle and debate about prayer. |

Canceled :( Ausiello from tv guide just tweeted that Saving Grace has been canceled. "TNT confirms that it has axed Saving Grace. Series will conclude next summer with nine-episode mini season." Why cancel this show?? Hope they explain why Earl came to Grace before it ends. |

Hly moly! I did NOT expect this. Has the nine episode mini already been filmed? If so, this is gonna suck, since I know they original intended to spend more time on Neely... |

Km I don't know if the nine have already been filmed. I hope not because they might leave things hanging thinking they were coming back. I didn't expect it either. I wonder why...if it's cuz of cost (paying actors) or maybe some main ones wanted to leave. I hope they tell us why. |

I've skimmed around and it's a big mess. I can't follow some of the info, partly because4 I'm not *up* on the business side of things and partly because some posters are, weel, confusing and ill informed. But the gist so far as i can tell is that Fox STUDIOS quit...not TNT. That seems really weird. I'm gonna snoop some more... I do think they're unfilmed. or, at least only six of nine are filmed. Six were supposed to air this winter. They're holding those six, plus three more for the summer now, when ratings for cable will be better. This really sucks. |

I wonder if that means another studio could pick it up. Probably never happen. I tweeted him back asking if he knew why but didn't get a reply. |

Holly Hunter does not come cheaply. I don't think those last nine have been filmed yet. Either way, it's nice that there are at least three more coming than had been ordered originally... (sorry, looking for a silver lining for ya...) |

I guess I'm so flummoxed because this is the first time I've heard of a studio unwilling to go forward when the network wants more. I never really followed the whole business model of the industry. I remember back in the 60's first learning that all of television was based on those commercials, and thinking WTF? - surely the sponsors realize they're being taken for a ride? Commercials don't affect people's attitudes, choices, buying decisions that much. See, I grew up in a working class poor home, and EVERY purchase was a careful decision. There was NO *splurging* or discretionary spending. Being skeptical of commercials and their claims and rejecting the pressure from ads was second nature. I was 11 years old before I ever ate McDonald's. But at least I understood the how the model supposedly worked. Remember those drive in spots that warned of the evils of *pay TV*? lol I used to think, who in their right minds would pay for programming? But we do. But it really doesn't make sense to me. |

All the money spent on advertising confuses me... once 'brand awareness' is so firmly established... do Coke, Pepsi, and McDonald's REALLY need to spend so much on ads? What happens if they took a quarter off? How much would sales plummet? Really? Because, like, everybody already knows what those products are, and how they feel about them. 'Preaching to the converted', you know? I mean, sure, sometimes you'll see an ad for a food place you haven't had in awhile (or an attractive item on sale) and get 'hit' with 'Mmm, that's looks good' - a reminder that you want that soon, but... it always seems so EXCESSIVE to me, those Cola Wars... all that money spent... Anyway, back to tv. The business model has changed, with dvds and the after-market (foreign or syndication) sales of a show being often more important than the license fee originally paid by an entity to first-run a show... It's rare, but I've seen other times the studio will pull the plug, over the network doing it. Can't think of any off-hand, but... well, it happens a lot that star/crew salary increases will make a show too expensive to continue to produce, but the network would love to keep airing it -- for the same amount they're paying for it now (or, you know, less). Which is impossible. |

So the Saving Grace demise is likely due to... *Holly Hunter's salary, plus the (assumed) escalating salary of the cast... *Poor DVD sales of earlier seasons? *Lack of interest in repeats and syndication? (Really???) |

>> *Holly Hunter's salary, plus the (assumed) escalating salary of the cast... For sure. >> *Poor DVD sales of earlier seasons? Maybe. I don't know how they are/were, but our recession HAS hit dvd sales pretty hard, plus a natural slowdown/threshold on consumers slowing down their dvd purchases and/or making the to-BluRay upgrade... >> *Lack of interest in repeats and syndication? (Really???) Maybe. Of course, it should become MORE 'valuable' the longer it runs, but... I don't know if there's been a slide in the ratings... (but even if there was, it shouldn't be/have been THAT important...) Possible that there are personality conflicts or tensions in there somewhere, that we haven't (and might not) hear about, and any cited reason is just friendly spin, but I think 'too expensive' IS an honest likely culprit here... an Oscar winner (and four-time nominee) on a TNT show was a bit of a surprise to begin with... even when big name actresses like Glenn Close are enjoying their tv experiences and finding better roles than they'd get/have gotten in films in years... they still want to be paid, and will feel really 'worked' hard as series leads when tv is often a lot more demanding than what they're probably used to from the film world... |

Okay, this REALLY pisses me off. Every time I find a show I really like, it's POOF! They knew going in that HH was going to require some $. Reruns? Sometimes I watch the same show in the same night. They run that and Hawthorne twice. I usually skip Hawthorne......not a terrible premise but very poorly acted sometimes. I really am POed to hear this news. Yes, Grace has gotten more settled since she's cinched with Ham. It was an ugly coming about but worked. I remember Rhetta really ripping on her after hearing about her hubby, from Grace. Crap, now I have this and a dentist appointment. Happy F***ing Monday. |

Teakay is does suck doesn't it. I feel the same way about getting into the new shows and really liking them and then they are canceled. I've been seeing previews for some new shows coming on in Sept. and thinking what's the point in even starting them. |

I have seen this comment so many times IRL. Somehow, mixed in with all the other craziness, the industry needs to find a way to give shows a chance, to let the viewers know there is a commitment so the audience is willing to invest... In the long run (as with so much in America) the industry is gonna suffer if they focus only on short term success. Then again, they do greenlight a lot of crap... Guess that's why this whole issue is a dilemma. (This doesn't actually fit SG....they at least have gone through at least 2 seasons...I'm thinking of all the shows that don't even make it thru a season...) |

I've come to appreciate the newer model of television series: shorter seasons, with staggered start times. Examples: Damages, Mad Men, The Closer, Saving Grace. All have been able to maintain strong writing across multiple seasons. I don't invest in them the same way I did in say, ER (the early years), partially because I don't expect them to necessarily be on the next go round. I enjoy them for what they are and watch when I can (which is usually if hubby reminds me that the show is on--which means I rarely miss The Closer because he likes that show, but am much more hit/miss with the others because he doesn't like them.) And honestly, I don't feel much loyalty towards television shows. I missed some of the better series: Six Feet Under (saw some re-runs), Sopranos because I don't subscribe to HBO (but consider it, from time to time...) |

How the heck did I miss this? Teakay posted something in the Closer thread and I did a search and found this: The series will complete its run in the summer of 2010, because the show's producer, Fox Television Studios, cancelled the show - despite its high ratings - after disappointing overseas and DVD sales. TNT had originally ordered a split 15-episode third season, with nine episodes running in the summer of 2009 and six to have been aired in the winter of 2009. Due to the show's cancellation, which was announced August 13, 2009, season three will end on August 18, 2009. TNT will add three additional episodes to the six originally planned for Winter 2009, allowing the writers to tie up all loose ends. These last nine episodes of the show will air as a final season four in Summer 2010 At least there will be more. It suck so bad that they are canceling a show that is so incredibly good! Merry F-ing Christmas. I still cannot believe I missed this news so long ago! |
