Joss Whedon to direct Glee!

Glee' exclusive: Joss Whedon to direct!
by Michael Ausiello
Categories: Dollhouse, Glee, News

glee-whedon_lIf I hadn’t been warming to Glee already, this for sure would’ve begun defrosting me: Dollhouse-keeper Joss Whedon has agreed to direct one of the back nine episodes that Fox just ordered.

Turns out, the genius who gave us not only the “Once More, With Feeling” musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer but also Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is a big fan of Ryan Murphy’s new phenom. So when Twentieth (the studio behind Glee) approached him about the gig, pretty much his only reservation was scheduling.

“Joss directed one of the great musical episodes in the history of television on Buffy,” gushes Murphy, “so this is a great, if unexpected, fit. I’m thrilled he’ll be loaning us his fantastic groundbreaking talent.”

And there’s no reason to panic, Dollhouse fans: I’m told the auteur’s moonlighting in no way, shape or form suggests that that show is a goner. He’d most likely tackle the side job after Eliza Dushku and Co. have wrapped their 13-episode order.

So whad’ya think? Good news or great? And any bets on how soon the petition will be started to get Sarah Michelle Gellar a bit part?

Great news about JW directing...and of course tons of fanboy and fangrrrl whining about various injustices and issues and whatnot related.

Joss comments on W'esque...

Hey kids and parents of kids and super-old, like ancestor-old-but-not-dead-yet-type people, just poking my oversized head in to say that the rumors are true... unless something very odd happens in the next few months, I will have the privilege of shooting an episode of GLEE. Why GLEE? Because I love cops, serial killers and gritty urban drama (I haven't seen the show yet). Why me? Because they're struggling and can't afford real directors. And to head off a few queries:

No, this doesn't mean Dollhouse definitely won't get a back nine. Our numbers mean that! But I kid. Okay, we're not exactly saving all the good stuff for 14-22, but nobody's closed the door. If D'House suddenly busts wide, huzzah, we'll still bring it, and I'll still go and direct an episode of Glee, because of my love of cops. These realities can co-exist. And possibly cross over, at least in fiction that I have wri - read. About.

What can we expect from a 'Joss Whedon' epsiode of Glee? An episode of Glee. God willin' and the crik don't rise, a good one. A television director's job is, on some level, to be anonymous; to find the most compelling way to present a story without calling attention to himself. I had a wonderful time doing just that on The Office, and hope to again. A guest director can bring a huge amount to the party (we've had CRAZY talent on Dollhouse), but the party isn't his. I just want to work with good people on a show that I like enough to have watched every episode several times. (I lied: I HAVE watched the show. And seriously, when do the cops show up?)

Whom will I kill? When will that go away? Is death really the only thing I'm known for? I'd hope not. You know how many people in the world actually die? ALL OF THEM. You know how many I've killed? Statistically, somewhat fewer. Can't we focus on another element of my work? Having said that, probably Principal Figgins. (No! I kid! God.)

Anyway, I hope that clears things up. I'm going to do my best, and more importantly, I'm going to do my best not to gush like a fanboy for eight straight days on set. Don't worry. I practiced with Bamber. I'm a pro.

Happy Monday. Especially for me. -j.

'Glee' Exclusive: Madonna is on board! Is Adam Lambert next?
by Tim Stack

Are you sitting down, Gleeks? Well you might want to, because we have some exclusive Glee news that’s positively Madge-ical. EW has learned that Madonna has given Glee the rights to her catalog and that an all-Madonna-music episode is in the works for early next year. The hit series has been building an audience and filling the iTunes charts with its cover songs, and Madonna’s involvement is a testament to how big the show is getting. Also, an amazing Glee cover of a classic Madonna track has the potential to be even bigger than the show’s blockbuster take on “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Quinn totally has to do “Papa Don’t Preach.” And I can completely see Rachel tackling “Material Girl.”

But Madonna might not be the only pop star getting some Glee love. Co-creator Ryan Murphy tells EW that he’s considering approaching American Idol runner up Adam Lambert about appearing on the show (next year, Glee will be paired with Idol on Wednesday nights). Nothing is official yet but Lambert does seem like an ideal choice for Glee.

Which Madonna song do you wanna hear Glee cover, Music Mix-ers? What would you think about Adam Lambert possibly appearing on the show?

For more on Glee, check out EW’s cover story on the Fox phenomenon, on stands this Friday

There's not a word or noise I can possibly make to express how I feel about Adam's appearance on the show. Simply none.

The only thing I really like about this show is the songs. I don't like any of the current storylines.

Uh... who is Adam Lambert?
Adam Lambert is (IMO) one of the best young singers to ever come out of American Idol. He was runner up last season to Kris Allen but many think he should have won because he is uber talented. There was a lot of controversy because he's a little on the flamboyant side, people speculated a LOT on his sexual preferences (he came out publicly in Rolling Stone after AI), and he was like......the complete polar opposite of Kris, who was good but didn't garner near the attention or adoration that Adam received. Adam grew up doing musical theater and a show like Glee would be the perfect choice for him.

This is his performance of Mad World that sealed the deal for many of us.......I still get chills when I watch it.....I LOVE Adam!

Lambert would probably be a good fit on this show.

The adult storylines are getting disgusting, IMO. I am FFing most of them now. The musical numbers are the best thing going right now.

LOL.....I did the same thing. Once I was over at YouTube, I rewatched a couple of numbers. I had forgotten how great he did Tracks Of My Tears too. Awesome!

Tracks Of My Tears was the second tune I could not stop playing. Also, I went for other songs as well.

Mad World is the best idol, factor, talent performance I've ever seen.

Thanks Cheryl. Great performance. I do remember now hearing stuff about him. I like the quirky stuff so I probably would have been rooting for him over the other one if I watched AI.

Gate--I feel the exact same way! The show just makes me smile.....and laugh. I still can't get over the fact that my hubby likes it. We had a ton of shows to watch on dvr the other night and I had narrowed it down to Nip/Tuck or Glee and by God, he chose Glee. I would have never have imagined that in a million years!

It just amazes me that my husband loves this show too! It's so not his type of thing, or I thought it wouldn't be, but he loves it. :D

I just turned Oprah on to find Adam and all I'm seeing is cakes. I hope I didn't miss it but I guess I did. :(

It was totally just AWESOME! I normally go to bed by 730pm (yep...Im an old man!) but Glee is the ONLY show that I get excited about. I have to watch it live with commercials and all. Hell, I DVR it and I have already watched it again this morning in case I didn't remember it all due to my ambien comaLOL.
Will and Emma didn't have that great chemistry that the writers were hoping for but last night THEY DID! I loved every min of it. Thank God that crazy stupid pregnancy storyline is OVER!!! I am now going to go through Glee withdrawl's till APRIL! :(

I agree about the chemistry, but they are so cute together. They do care about each other and I want them to be a couple.

I liked how the final episode of 2009 ended in such a way that if it had been the last show we would have had a resolution of the character's lives. What does everyone think of Brittany and Santana?

Brittany and Santana? I must have missed that part. I knew she said something but didn't catch it and didn't loop back.

I thought it was a great episode and was so, so happy that it was Ken that called it off!

Really, Sue?! Why so angry? She's a hoot but I am just not getting her rage.

Totally happy the baby mess it out in the open. I really loved the epi where Will found out about his wife! That was awesome! I love this show! My daughter has been so busy lately that I am not even waiting for her to watch the show anymore! April seems like forever away. My only consolation is that February is just around a frosty corner!

On the phone call part, there was a line about how if what Puck and Santana do is dating, than Brittney and Santana are dating too ;) I just couldn't believe it.

I'm glad the baby mess is over and I hope it stays like that.

Do you think the wife stays? If so, I want a divorce and for her to be an ex-wife.

#14 will air Tuesday April 13, after American Idol.

Part of the reason they haven't yet/are only now starting production on the next run is that Murphy was directing a movie.

I don't know if they'll be doubling up any weeks or not, but nine shows at one-a-week will take them a few weeks post-season, to June 8th...

Joss Whedon's directing the sixth one of the run.

-

I enjoyed the fall finale (yeah... what bl said about 'resolution' - this WOULD have been the first season finale if it had started airing last spring, as originally planned... it's fun to think that this show's been a big hit this fall, but all of these episodes were filmed before anybody had seen any of it...).

Rachel's Don't Rain On My Parade was really amazing (not sure that I'd call it a 'ballad', but whatever).

I want video of Brittany and Santana having sex.

Really, Mozart? I think Finn is such a dork, especially when he tries to dance. Albeit a sweet dork though! Puck is much cuter and has definitely grown on me over the season.

You just KNEW they had to win Sectionals. And personally, I wasn't too sad about not having to hear "Don't Stop Believing" again. LOL.....we watched last night and I woke up this morning singing "My Life.......Would Suck........Without You!"

Would you believe I know every word to "Don't Rain On My Parade"? Definitely showing my age here...haha......I played that Funny Girl album into the ground when I was a kid. Streisand was my goddess! Rachel did an awesome job with the song.

Will and Emma.......le sigh....... :wub1:

Love this show, loved the "fall" ending, can't wait until April!
