Interesting.

I'm sure I'd agree with most of her comments, but it was probably an 'oops' to say so many of them publicly. Admire her candor and honesty, but... not always the best move, politically.

BE is getting her butt roasted by the AMC fans for her unprofessional remarks about JR Martinez. I doubt that she will have any luck with her next pairing on the show thanks to her foot in mouth syndrome.

As much as I have always enjoyed BE's talent, I do think that she often speaks without thinking.

IMO, it's totally unprofessional to make unkind remarks about a co-star's ability, or lack thereof. And in this case, Beth was particular insensitive because JR is a casualty of a completely unnecessary war and has come home to put his life back together and move on. Granted, JR is not an actor, but he is putting his heart and soul into the role.

I am afraid Beth's remarks about Pratt (if they are true) may hurt her in having frontburner story in the near future.

I adore JRM and am kind of glad they are breaking to two up! Of course it looks like she might be getting paired with Tad. I hope they find a way to keep Martinez. Of course he is scarred but I still think he is very attractive and want him to stick around and have a good story with someone good enough for him!

Damn, she really needs a lesson in STFU. First all the "I am going to AMC because of Ricky" and now this....

JR Martinez did an interview with the same woman who interviewed Beth..think it was yesterday or the night before on Stardish Radio. But Beth called in (after talking with him) and talked about what she said. They assured everyone that they were friends and Beth said she didn't mean to hurt him and was really surprised at how nasty and mean people got. She said that since she doesn't go online that she was unaware of all the backlash. It's an interesting interview...both the Beth call part and then Jr's actual interview. I learned many things about him and my respect for him grows even higher.

That said, I didn't get mad at Beth for the things she said in her interview. I had seen her and Jr on a tv talk show...might have been Oprah. And she said so many wonderful things about him and his acting ability. Listening to the whole interview, I kind of thought that she was just really, really frustrated about how her job is turning out. I do think she just didn't choose the correct words.

I thought when she first went to AMC--I just got the impression that RPG had a hand in talking her into it and that she went thinking they were going to have this great story and she'd be working alot. Instead of being woven into the "families of Pine Valley", she was basically stuck with another newbie and had way less air time than she thought she'd have. And if you read RPG's Twitter page and website...he's all about "Jake and Amanda" and never mentions Beth and her character now. When Beth first went on...he was all about that. From reading his words I feel like he's just excited about anyone that will help him get the airtime. Now...all this is just my opinion but I did feel bad for Beth.

On the other hand, with GL going off the air...it doesn't look like Beth gave anything up to try AMC. Don't know if many here twitter's but JR Martinez talks about it and more on his twitter page. He's listed as KnowJR

Between the two interviews, though, I wonder how much opportunity they had to discuss this privately on the set...

It's true to say that he's not 'an actor', like professionally-trained, not a lot (any?) of previous experience... but it's cool to say that he's a 'great beginner' (I haven't seen any of him to judge or anything, I'm just going by what I've read/seen elsewhere - he's doing well, right?-- but you can also see that he's 'new' at this, I'd imagine...). Some natural talent, and he should be getting better everyday, but Ehlers isn't being an egomaniac to suggest they're in different leagues.

Yeah. Gotta be tough... underutilized 'newbie' on a soap-that's-not-'home', as opposed to one where you were a 'star' for many, many years... (still - doubt she ever goes as far in her mind's bitching as to wish she'd STAYED with GL 'til its end...).

Dax have you had a chance to listen to both interviews? I'm curious if those who did got the same impression that I did. While Beth said she was sorry for hurting JR, she never actually apologized for saying it. I just feel like she wasn't backing down from what she believed but that she realized maybe she shouldn't have voiced her opinion. It also seemed to be one of the reasons she is so private and even said she would write down a list of responses should she ever give another interview.

while they were both saying, all is good...the conversation seemed sort of stilted. So I came away thinking they maybe talked about it once in a phone call. I'd have to listen again but I think one of the other actors told her what was going on online and then she called JR.

I have watched Jr on AMC - starting watching when Beth went over- I think he's ok- certainly no worse than some of the "pretty" actors that have been hired mainly cuz they look good. And I wonder---not trying to start a board war or anything- but I wonder how much of this backlash is because people feel for him because he has lost so much while fighting for our country. If this was some other actor in his first job...would people have gotten so upset at Beth?

Also when I said my respect for him grew after his interview...I wasn't talking about his acting...but on how he handled coming home and his recovery and his life after recovery. Gotta admire this because I don't know if I would have been as strong as he has been.

Shelle I haven't seen a full transcript anywhere yet. Just snippets of Beth's interview.
But it's on stardish radio.

Honestly yes I think the backlash would have been the same. Because the issue here is that most AMC fans DO NOT like Beth's character of Taylor. They didn't like the GL hype of her and Ricky and their "amazing" chemistry. They didn't like being TOLD how much they would "love" Beth and Ricky reuniting on their soap. They didn't like having "Take" (Taylor and Jake) being crammed down their throats. They didn't like "Take" at all because most of them didn't see any chemistry between the two. Many didn't like Taylor either - she's way different than the other females on AMC which some enjoyed at first but most did not.

They did, however, LOVE JR Martinez's character of Brot. I never saw much awkwardness with him and he has a real, natural ability. I never thought he was "acting" - he really brought life to this character and gained a lot of fans and a lot of sympathy.

When Taylor and Brot were paired up, some AMC fans started warming up to her - because of Brot, not Taylor! They love JR and they love Brot whereas they are iffy at best with both Beth and Taylor. So her comments about JR's ability - or lack thereof - definitely did not win her any points. The attitude amongst many AMC fans is that Brot made Taylor palatable and now here is Beth spouting off about how hard it is for her to "do Shakespeare" while he is "doing something else". Especially if you look at Crishell Stause (Amanda) and RPG's (Jake) interview in which they both just gush about each other and Crishell talks about how Ricky has helped her become a better actor. When you look at both of these interviews, Beth really comes off as an elitist bitch IMO.

Harley was my favorite character for most of her tenure on GL. I think Beth is a fabulous actress and she is definitely being underutilized on AMC. However, her comments were rather idiotic considering that she hasn't really won herself many fans since being on AMC and trashing a popular co-star's abilities certainly isn't the way to get fans to like her or her character.

I think that a lot of the reason for BE & RPG's fan-fave status on GL was that Ricky really put himself out there as far as fan events, etc. Also because Harley finally had a story where she didn't have to keep competing with another woman for a man. Which is fine. But as a longtime GL watcher - their "chemistry" was not supercouple level IMO, and I think it got to the point where she herself started to believe the hype. Just because someone is your BFF in real life doesn't mean it translates on the screen. I have to say though, I read that SOD interview w/ RPG and CS and it just made me cringe.

Stampurr, I can imagine how some long time AMC viewers were upset about bringing Beth on the show because I didn't like having an actor taking up my viewing time for my favs on my shows. I started watching AMC again after Beth came on having been away for several years and I don't think they crammed the pair down anyone's throat...i thought they were handling that pretty good with not putting her with him right away and not having Beth hogging up the air time.

That's one thing about the internet, depending on what site u are on there are many different opinions on viewers liking certain couples and certain actors. On RPG's board, when BC first went to AMC everyone was so excited about the pairing and about BC coming over. Now that he's excited about CS everyone loves that pair. I've heard many people say that unless you suck up to him about how much you like Jake and Amanda together he ignores you...if u look at his twitter page, sure looks that way. So him gushing about CS...don't mean much to me cuz he gushed about BC too.

And I know that Beth has been very complimentary about JRM in other interviews so I'll let this one time pass. Sounds like you really like JRM and the Brot character, I haven't found a favorite just yet...well I kinda like Zach and Aidan. Most of the characters are new since I've come back.

Sounds like Beth is doing some major damage control.

Seems to me she's probably jealous that JRM has become so popular, while Taylor really isn't, and RPG's Jake is gaining popularity thanks to the Jake and Amanda pairing

What in the heck does the stuff in bold mean? Who does he ignore and who are these "many people?"

Personally I think it's nice to see two actors who are enjoyhing their pairing and supporting each other.....CS seems to love working with RPG and vice versa......he was an amazing co=-star to BE for many, many years he's not acting any dikfferently with CS...........the sour grapes and bitterness from certain quarters over the Jake and Amanda pairing is very sad.....Why on earth sholdn't fans enjoy his pairing. BE enjoyed all the fandom she could get from her pairing with RPG and now her fans are poking him at every turn because he's in another successful pairing.....

But back to the subject at hand.....BE made a huge mistake even mentioning JRMartinez in negative terms at all....she didn';t need to go there. There were so many things in that interview that were mistaken for candor....

ITA. GusH was popular at first because Harley finally had a guy all to herself and the Harley fans loved that. It wasn't that GusH was that much more exciting or chemistry-driven than any other pairing on the show. They weren't. In terms of chemistry and rapport, they were above average. Nothing more. Certainly nothing approaching Josh & Reva, Blake & Ross, or even Harley & Derwin's Mallet.

But I noticed that, over time, Gus/RPG became far more popular and well-liked than she, even amongst once-hardcore Harley fans. So much so that by the time GusH broke up in the fall of 2007, most of the GusH fans sided with Gus over Harley and absolutely despised Harley by the time she left last May/June. That's where AMC really miscalculated IMO. They didn't seem to realize that the GusH fanbase of 2008 was not the GusH fanbase of 2002. Alot of them would follow RPG but were over Harley and BE and didn't want to see Ricky paired with Beth again. Alot of them were curious to see what he could do with a fresh start opposite a new leading lady, which he has now done with Chrishell Stause.
