“May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't.”

The room was dimly lit, black even. The floors, ceiling and walls all seemed transparent, giving view to the vast cosmos surrounding it on all sides. There were stars, thousands of visible stars, galaxies, and flares, surrounding it. Here there seemed to be no boundaries, the room stretched off into the infinity of space.

A large chair stood in the center of this room, a large metallic chair. Its seats were red velvet, its arms large. In one holder, there was a small ashtray, with two smoking cigarettes sitting within.

Sitting in this chair was a dimly lit, reptilian figure. He wore an unbuttoned suit, tailored to fit his stature. In clawed hands, the figure held a lit cigarette, the tip illuminating his talons. His face was only partly lit by the three orange holograms he faces, three figures of some stature. The holograms seemed blurred, almost as if intentional.

“The Axis Revolution hit another one of our depots,” said one of the holograms, this one looking slightly human, “Three dead, ten wounded. We estimate a ten million credit loss this time.”

“We got lucky this time then,” said the reptile, his voice low but smooth, “And has there been word of any Federation response?”

“Too far into Starlight Trigolmetrate territory,” came the alien voice of another figure, which seemed hunched over, “They know sending any forces would provoke a response.”

“I’ll contact Vance then,” said the reptile, “I can convince him to deal with that pocket.”

“That’s a temporary fix, Mr. Walker” stated the human, “This is the third Axis Revolution raid on our stations this month. Fifth raid if you count-“

“The Phoenix Kingdom?” said the reptile, “I know. Sixth if you count the Spiders raiding our Jukkaian City assets.”

“Inquiry: A defensive force is necessary to defend the assets of our business,” stated a cold, robotic voice.

“I have that taken care of,” said Mr. Walker, “The universe is a dangerous place, gentlemen. As you well know, it’s only getting worse. Which is why it is imperative Project Sentinel is kept on schedule.”

“We have notified all candidates of Sentinel,” came the alien voice.

Suddenly, a mass of profiles appeared before Mr. Walker. They sped past him, showing facts and figures, blood types, abilities, history. There was a picture of a Pikachu, a Yoshi, a bird creature...

“I fail to see why you do not just gather a small private army,” said the human, “Having a group loosely under your control-“

“Is what the universe needs now, Chairman,” stated Mr. Walker, “You do remember the Yoshi Bodyguards. A group founded to protect a single individual, yet in the 2000s they changed the course of universal history.”

“And yet look at Star World now,” said the human, “Under Federation control, armies crippled. Where were the Bodyguards to defend them?”

“Need I remind you that were it not for the sacrifice of three Bodyguards, Star World would probably not even exist, and Starlight would be a different place today,” Mr. Walker stated.

“Inquiry: What do you hope to accomplish by this Sentinel Project?” came the robotic voice, “They could potentially be a problem for our benefactors.”

“I’m almost counting on it,” smirked Mr. Walker, “The people don’t trust their governments, their corporations, their armies. One minute they’re the just defenders and the next they’ve been sold out in a political gambit. People need heroes, someone to rally behind and to give them hope.”

“And our part in this?” said the human.

“The same as it’s always been,” said Mr. Walker, “We have our part to play, they have theirs.”

Mr. Walker put out his cigarette in the ash trap, a slight hiss sounding as the flames died.

“Well gentlemen, I think our meeting is concluded,” announced Mr. Walker, “The Sentinel Project will be ago in the next few days, the Atlas Guardians will be ago. Have a good day.”

With that, the holograms shut off, leaving the reptile’s silhouette alone in the vastness of the cosmos.
