Sometimes I feel like saying "the root of all problems is individual choice" but that's be dumb. And I think the thing is, the US is probably divided up near half on a LOT of different things. That's probably why we have two main political parties, even if they both suck. There are problems with the old system, and this new system. But there are problems with every system, and for that matter, I'm pretty sure that if certain problems of systems were gotten rid of, it would cause other problems, so we need to come up with something at least adequate!? |

For once, I completely agree with you. One thing I do think we need to throw out is the two party system. I laughed when my government book said that "if we had more than two parties, it would cause instability and the country would be thrown to chaos." HAHAHA. Works fine for Europe. Seriously, our two political parties have ingrained themselves so much in our culture, that they're trying to convince us without them our country would fall. In reality, they're both afraid of losing power. If someone who really represented all of America's popular beliefs went into power, we could possibly get somewhere. But, alas, politics won't allow for anyone that isn't hard conservative or hard liberal to get elected. Hence why McCain lost. And there is some problems in free choice. It's also what our country is based on. Hence the pro-abortion excuse but that's another story. And yes, the old system sucks. The new system sucks worse. And we're spending billions on it DURING AN ECONOMIC CRISIS. Again, I'd fully back government overseeing healthcare and making sure insurance companies use fair practices, business itself has proven that when left alone, it abuses the consumer. Government control is not the answer. I mean, look at all the nations that regulated video games by a government organization as opposed to a private organization like ESRB? Can you say blatant censorship of anything that disagreed with the government's ideals? *GERMANYCOUGHCOUGH* Yes, I mean modern Germany. And I really went on a tangent. |

Basically I mean if you don't extol every virtue the party wants you to be, you aren't gonna get elected for any big office. Independents rarely get anything. |

I don't know, is it bad I want to see a party have a candidate who runs for office on everything the majority of people in the US want, just to see it fail spectacularly? Actually I want to see said candidate win, just to see the US fail spectacularly. After I move to Canada, of course. |

With how divided we are, I actually think it's essential that people are extreme to their side. The reason? Even if you win, you still only get half of what you want. Of course, with a bunch of moderates in power that wouldn't happen but I think that's pretty much the reason to vote for someone who will probably take your idea a lot farther than you will. ...I don't pretend to understand politics. Not being old enough to vote, I don't need to just yet. |

So why don't wej ust copy Japan's health care system. "b-b-because they're different than the US" must be why the us hasn't adopted the metric system. "Different" would be one way to put it. ;o http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_Japan |

I wouldn't mind that so much. You have a government option, and the private sectors. That WORKS, it's a way of keeping the market open but allowing the government to have a foot in the door on it. So why is ours mandatory for everyone? Well, not everyone. Specific states don't have to use it! And Louisiana wouldn't get reconstruction money unless they voted for this bill! Oh joy, the Dems put pork in another bill. Wasn't that a campaign promise Obama stated? "You know, the days of just pork coming out of Congress as a strategy, those days are over." http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/07/obama.economy/ Question, has anyone here even bothered to read the bill? |

I don't know I'm not saying what's good or bad Just that this seems to be pointing towards something that has nothing to do with health care. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100327/ap_on_bi_ge/us_health_overhaul_requiring_insurance |
