Do you really think you'd get jailtime by not subscribing to a health insurance plan? |

“What I think is appropriate is that in the same way that everybody has to get auto insurance and if you don't, you're subject to some penalty, that in this situation, if you have the ability to buy insurance, it's affordable and you choose not to do so, forcing you and me and everybody else to subsidize you, you know, there's a thousand dollar hidden tax that families all across America are -- are burdened by because of the fact that people don't have health insurance, you know, there's nothing wrong with a penalty.” -Obama Cited in an interview with ABC: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/11/interview-with-the-president-jail-time-for-those-without-health-care-insurance.html And what happens when you drive without car insurance? |

Jail time for not paying a fine, just like pretty much everything that even requires you to pay a fine, is not the original intent, but an adverse effect for even having a fine in the first place. |

True, and you can get jail time for not paying dues for private healthcare. I'm not so naive to say that our current system's perfect, but I'm for government SUPERVISION, not control. It's a matter of I don't want another fine I HAVE to pay. If I don't want health insurance, so be it. I'll die. But giving healthcare to the government DID NOT work in Canada, I don't care what ANYONE said. My friend had to wait six hours for a doctor to see him when he was sent to the ER for a broken arm. And don't get me started on the taxes Europe pays. But, my ranting is in vain. All I can do is vote against Obama, and pray Pelosi gets kicked out of office. I could rant on for hours more about that, but I'll keep this confined to healthcare. |

Yeah We should make people who get sick pay high fees because it's their fault for getting sick And we should make people who have kids be the only ones to pay school taxes and Whoops that last one is a good idea. For what it's worth I support public health care even though I'm never sick, even though I'm probably not making the healthiest choices in health-related choices! Obviously the government sucks and private companies suck, so it's going to be fruitless in the end anyway and you just have to hope you got genes from your parents that will make you pretty resistant to most things. i like being pessimistic Edited by Duth Olec, Mar 22 2010, 02:14 AM.

Also apparalellantly http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/2009/08/never-mind-the-anecdotes-do-canadians-like-their-health-care-system.html Although it does mention that in Canada it seems reducing wait times is a prime concern. But anyway, does that mean you don't care what the Canadians themselves say? ;o IT'S LIKE THE SOVIERT RUNION! Why did I keep adding Rs in there? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_Canada Maybe people should just stop gettin' sick. Edited by Duth Olec, Mar 22 2010, 02:00 AM.

Okay whoops we all have health care, now for everyone in the US to get sick, the government to go bankrupt and China to take over. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100322/ap_on_bi_ge/us_health_care_overhaul hooray for those 32 million formerly uninsured folks! And the pre-existing people! I love how both Democrats and Republicans think they're right and that the people of Americka agree with them. They probably need to get some polls done on that. Also I love how this is somehow in Spam Magnet. |

The thing is I don't take much stock if you haven't experienced both. I don't knock Europe's system because it could be better. Canada's I know has inadequacies, thus I target that. And Top, I see where your coming from. But should I have to pay for you to get sick? Do you all want to pay for my grandmother who smoked on her deathbed as she died from lung cancer she brought on herself? Why should the US citizen pay for the stupidity of others; that's THEIR job. Now, then some say the government should turn down people. Except if they do, they'd be uninsured and yet still paying for it. Then the ONLY insurance company in the nation won't ensure you. The old system had choices. Now we only have one. Also from a Harvard Survey, cited by the article you quoted: The survey, co-sponsored with Harris Interactive Inc., a Rochester, New York, research and polling company, found that 45 percent of Americans thought the U.S. medical system generally was the best. The remaining 54 percent either didn't know or thought other countries' systems were better. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=aVuhx2_FYU0A&refer=us Great victory for the American people, huh Pelosi? (the 54% includes unconfirmed... I wish I could find a better statistic, but I tried to find one that was unbiased, and Harvard Medical always is the most reliable.)
