but have any of you had a near miss or a crash cused by someone else by either speeding or tailgating ect.how did you deal or cope with it after the near miss or the crash. Well the reason I ask is I was nearly involved in a colistion a I was turing right and a car just kepted comming towards me, I had to hit the gas pedel to get out of the way, but the car didnt even try to slow down, it could of been a bad crash, no dought I would of been blamed for it. It shook me up. How did any of you cope when something like this happend? |

Curse the stupidity and folly of mankind, and go about my business. I've had several near misses, but none manage to rile me up for more then a few hours at max. |

Well, perspective for one. Sounds like a scary incident, but it shouldn't keep you from driving or anything else like that. If you do find that it does, and you can't seem to get it out of your mind, then you may need to talk to someone, a councellor, about the feelings behind it. Don't let it simmer or broil, it might only get worse. Unfortunatley, accidents happen, and the best thing you can do is be a good, defensive driver. Could something still go wrong? Yep. But there's always something in life that could go wrong. You mustn't let it stop you from living. A similar thing happened weekend before last to one of my (youth group) families on the way home from a retreat no less. I don't want to post specifics, because I don't want scare you any more than you may be now, but one of the things I did was make sure they had the opportunity to talk to someone who was trained in dealing with the trauma that they saw (the accident itself was not avoided, it only just missed them directly, and there were deaths) I knew I wasn't trained in psychology or qualified to talk them through it, even as a Youth Minister, so I urged them to speak to school councillors, as well as talking to people that would be willing to sit down with them if needed. My point being, if it truly, truly is something that is keeping you from living normally, then seek guidance. Otherwise, let it pass, and move on. Edited by Roadbuster, November 20, 2008, 10:35 am.

I was a little gun-shy after an actual wreck once that injured my head and totalled my car. However, best advice is to get back in the driver's seat (literally) ASAP. The longer you wait before doing so, the harder it can become to do so. Even if its just a quick trip around the block, it makes you feel like you can still do it. So yeah. Do it. ![]() |

how does it make you feel, Silver? A close call with death smacks you with the reality of your own mortality. It's a very hard thing to look around you and know you could be gone in that particular instant. It's also normal to blame yourself and feel guilty over anything you might have done differently, whether you realistically could have reacted some other way or not. It's very hard to forgive yourself whether you were at fault or not. Sometimes it seems like the world makes no sense, and Life is random, chaotic, unpredictable and untrustworthy. Add that to the sudden shock of adrenaline and the repeating images of the incident in your mind, and your whole body feels like it doesn't belong to you anymore. Can you accept that there's no way of knowing if you'll be here for five more minutes or a hundred more years? Can you let yourself be human and acknowledge that what happened just... happened? Can you just go on with your life and let this experience fade? You need to pamper yourself a bit. Treat yourself like you've had a horrible flu and you need to eat healthy, sleep more, and take special care of yourself while your body heals. Mental and emotional shocks are also physical ones, and it takes a while to feel normal again. Are you doing okay? lol... men's answers are so different from women's answers, neh? |

My parents, while I was learning to drive, always stressed that it wasn't so much my own driving which worried them and that I should be most alert to: it was everyone else's driving, since none of us have any control over what anyone else on the road does. Basically, all of the good advise is already given here. Just hang in there and don't let the incident rattle you more than it has. |

Point made. My apologies, Blue. Just got caught up in the joking-aspect of it and ran with it. Won't happen again. |

Ugh. Yeah, I won't make such an absurd, illegal and completely non-serious suggestion ever again. All future posting from me will lack levity. 100% serious business from here on out. |

'Levity' is something you have to express carefully and succinctly when all you have to work with is words to set the mood. The internet lacks voice intonation and inflection, word spacing, emotion, facial expression, body language, or any other clues that set a non-serious suggestion apart from an implicit endorsement in an otherwise serious thread. If we had all been joking around instead of speaking from the heart to help a friend, or if you had noticeably slipped into character and made your jokester intentions clear the post would have been seen as harmless. ...and being a smartass is also not cool... |

wow i didnt think this would get much of a responce. Blue: I feel ok now it just feels if I turned a few seconds later what could of happend. Its true there are just TOO many people who think THEY own the road and your just an anoyance to them, here we have alot of round abouts, now I took advabtage of a bus slowing and blocking other traffic, but it appered another driver had the same idea, and as I joind the roundabout and as i approched another cars exit a car driven by a woman pulled out right infront of me forceing me to brake and nearly stop IN the middled of the road, and all this woman could do was just look at me with the experaton of "what? your in the wrong here" and she didnt even look to see if I was coming. I have a fear that one day I will be in an accsident thats another drivers fault but I will get the blame and be the one who gets prosocuted for somthing that was someone elses faulte in the first place. |

Get the rule book out and go through it carefully again. Then look at the roundabouts you use the most and watch the traffic flow, that's what i've done here. If you know the rules, and you know how people really act in them, and you know the safest ways to get through them, go with caution and confidence, knowing you did every possible thing to be a responsible driver! New Jersey was famous for those damn traffic circles, and they caused a lot of accidents. Most of them are changed now, but there are still a few, and i HOPE my own son doesn't have to use them. Glad you're feeling better. |

Thanks Blue I am getting better I know the main rule: On a roundabout, you give way to traffic on your right when they are on the road, but some people seem to just come on with out looking Edited by Silverwing Wolf, November 27, 2008, 4:46 pm.
