Pumpkin Burgers SERVINGS: 6-8 CATEGORY: Main Dish METHOD: Other stovetop TIME: Prep: 15 min. Cook: 1 hour Ingredients: 1-1/2 pounds ground beef 1 medium onion, chopped 1 bottle (12 ounces) chili sauce 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed tomato soup, undiluted 1/2 cup canned pumpkin 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 to 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice 1/4 teaspoon pepper 6 to 8 hamburger buns, split Directions: In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add the chili sauce, soup, pumpkin, salt, pumpkin pie spice and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour or until thickened. Serve on buns. Yield: 6-8 servings. Nutrition Facts One serving: (1 each) Calories: 300 Fat: 9 g Saturated Fat: 4 g Cholesterol: 42 mg Sodium: 1333 mg Carbohydrate: 35 g Fiber: 3 g Protein: 19 g Yes, I've made it before, and it tastes a lot/exactly like a sloppy joe mix. but you can taste the pumpkin and spices? pumpkin sloppy joes? somehow i cant wrap my mind around that. ![]() would you try it again? or was it just an experiment? |

No, I'd do it again, they were pretty good actually. You can vaguely, vaguely taste the spice, but for the most part... You know how some barbque sauces are sweeter than others? Think of it in that light. Not that it was particularly sweet, but that you can easily add sweet and spicy flavors (like cinnamon and clove) to a barbque sauce to change the flavors rather nicely. It's along the same lines. (All pumpkin spice is is exactly that. Cinamon, clove, and nutmeg.) The pumpkin part itself is fairly bland in taste, so you don't really pick up on it all that much (most of Pumpkin pie's taste comes from the cinammon/nutmeg/cloves... and lots of whipcream on top ;-) |
