Actually front-wheel drives are better for icy conditions. Fishtailing happens primarily in rear-wheel drive vehicles when the tires slip while trying to push forward. In front wheel drives the car is essentially pulling, freeing the back wheels from a majority of the work. At least, that's my understanding. But I've driven fwd for all my life, and never had a problem fishtailing. My worst fishtail was when I was in my bro's rear wheel drive truck, and I ended up turning a full circle and facing oncoming traffic in their lanes. Scary scary!
