easier said than done... we have a lot of stuff in the closet. The damage is only to the walls... we'll see what the decision is.

there's no water damage to the floor where the water settled, or to the bottom layer of stuff in the closet?

not even to the bottom layer of the closet. The good thing about the particle cedar is that it pretty much sponges up all but the worst leaks...

The socks that got went were in the right had side of the second drawer from the top. Nothing else, including the left hand side, was wet or showed signs of BEING wet.

Oh, the box that the iron was in was wet too. It was on top of that.

Welp....

Two weeks and still no power. Centerpoint had us on the list for 'by Thursday' until last Tuesday when they published a new list that said 'by Sunday'

They've since pulled that list since everyone that got pushed back (just about a quarter of Houston's population...) screamed real loud, and now they've taken the position of 'we're working on it, no we don't know when.'

Also, they have flat out said they aren't even LOOKING at the lines running to seperate houses yet. Which to me means they are turning electricity on, creating live wires, that are laying on the ground... which seems a little... I don't know... dangerous? :cooked

Centerpoint is NOT popular right now.

Apparently about a year or so ago, they cut the budget to trim trees away from powerlines.

They also decided not to trim specifically in the Heights last year at all.

Now, they are no longer communicating with people, many of whom have not even seen a truck in their neighborhood.

They're also sending workers away, saying they don't 'have the right expertise' for what they're working on right now (namely pole-climbing) The problem with this is that there's a lot of people that have line problems that can be fixed by these people while others are pole climging.

It just all has the stench of disorginization and not wanting to put up the cash.

Oh, which btw, we'll be getting an increased power rate (or at least they are petitioning for it) ((which they shouldn't legally be able to petition for until 2010)) to help them defer the costs... because they are paupers and can't afford to do what they're contracted to do...

To make other things fun, our downed lines are in our backyard, the only way they can get to them is with our permission, and they've been reported as leaving sites untouched because there's no one home...

So... I guess they want me or my wife not to work for 3+ weeks so whenever they stop by we can let them in the backyard?

who's your local polititian? got a mayor or a congressman, something like that? everybody should be screaming to him/her for help.

call the newspapers. BIG papers. embarrassing the electric company to the world is a great way to get them moving into overdrive... and overtime. be sure to mention the budget cuts and why all the tree limbs are down.

leave a big note on your front door with your cell phone number. tell them you can be home within five minutes from when they call you. make it sound really nice.

make a deal with neighbors to cover each other's houses; when you see a truck in your neighborhood, someone NICELY ask how many houses they are going to today, and you will give them access. Write that permission on your note, too, so the repaircrew are covered legally.

well, your workplaces are up and running? At least you can be making your usual salaries...

Oh, it's already out there. The world is more concerned with the Economic situation this week though (and rightly so)

A lot of people are doing this, and I may this weekend. like I said, they're SUPPOSED to have a notation to call when they're at our house to begin with.

Actually, they have to have the person there, apparently.

Yeah, I am... however the smaller businesses (who do not have power) are beginning to suffer badly.

I'm actually, other than being frustrated that I don't have my own house, am ok. I'm staying where there's power, I have power at work, I never lost a paycheck...

However, two weeks away from home begins to grate on a person. And Centerpoint's not handling this well from a PR perspective... or seemingly from a logistics perspective.

Everytime people complain, they start shouting 'we made no promises' and 'look how much good we've already done!' which is not the way to win someone's heart...
