Roady lives in Houston, and he and his wife were driving to Florida to get out of the path of the most recent hurricane. He said he needed to be back at his church on Sunday... and i haven't seen nor heard from him since.

Anyone have news of Roady, or the hurricane?

From what I know from people at the AUG Roady fled Texas and is safe. But he has not returned home yet.

He did flee, but as of Sunday they were on their way back. They called me while driving in. According to a friend of theirs who stayed behind, there house was fine, but I think their power was out. Haven't spoken to them since then, but if anything had happened, I know I'd have heard something. Prolly just waiting for power and internet to get back on here with everybody.

Yeah, I'm alive and well. Our house doesn't have power, so as of last night we're staying with my sister in law and brother in law in law. They have a rather nice house.

Right now, I don't even know whose internet I'm using. It was the strongest connection, and they didn't have it protected X-) Working from 'home' today and go into the office tomorrow.

I'll post pictures of the house's damage later today. None of our personaly belonging were damaged, and the damage to the house (we rent) will go on the neighbor's tab. She's 'well off' and our landlord actually asked her to cut down the tree that fell a week or two ago, just in case!

Pictures as we woke up Monday morning and wandered out to see the damage (we came back after dark Sunday night, to a darkened house.)

That roof looks awfully bad, actually. It won't be a cheap fix; you'll probably need at least that quarter of the roof rebuilt and a new roof on the whole thing, since you mention there might be holes made as the tree scraped down the side. (AND since you've already seen evidence of a leak inside.)

As for you guys, clean thoroughly around the leak with clorine bleach and aim a fan at the wall for DAYS. You don't want mold to show up in a month. Is there an attic? You should check there, too.

The Landlord will probably have the neighbor file an insurance claim, so make sure to check for interior damage and water damage.

Poor House! :(

...but i'm glad you're okay and doing fine!

Posted Image Oh, Roady. I'm sorry you had all that damage. I'd be a wreck if that happened. . . I guess you're probably counting your blessings that it was only that bad, huh?

(Posted ImageYou have a handyman! How quaint!)

Posted Image Looks like a lot of chainsaw work to be done. I'd offer to help if I lived anywhere nearby.

Yeah, we were really VERY lucky. If the angle on the fall had been a little different, it coulda totalled the kitchen, sunroom, and probably taken out our dining room furniture in the weather.

Good suggestion, Blue, on the chlorine. It's gonna be tricky though, the major leak area is in our walk-in closet which was a 'handmade' addition by a previous owner. It's made of cedar pressboard that is baddly warped out and flaking off due to wetness, meaning the chlorine will not be healthy for it either. It's had a leak for about a forever though. The hurricane's high levels of rain just made more water to leak in it, and the lack of A/C and electricity has kept any air from flowing in the house, making it start to smell.

We're still waiting impatiently for power... and for Myron (yes, we have a handyman... actually our landlord does) to get his butt out there and take care of the big tree/'limb'. He didn't show again yesterday X-P Those power lines are still stuck dangerously unplugged and pinned under the tree!!

Oh, and yeah, all of our tools are intact Silver :drop It's a chore to get into the backyard to begin with. High fences crested with plants. Even the fence that got dropped is in neighbor's backyard and she has a REALLY high steel fencing around front! :clap1

you might want to rip that pressboard right off the wall, clean it out thoroughly, and nail up a sheet of plywood if nothing else. That is NOT a healthy situation.

...but i'm sure your medically-trained wife knows that anyway...

BESIDES!!!
if your neighbor's insurance has to pay to fix your home anyway, include that in the mix. who would know it was a pre-existing condition, since the storm obviously damaged the area anyway?

talk to the landlord then!

Then rip it down! at least get it started, maybe? (take photos first, to document what you were dealing with in case the insurance company asks.)
