The Varagoth

After a while, Yuroth found himself back on the bridge. His mind had been... difficult to settle. Every second he could feel tick away as the Emporer's ship came closer. Yet, it still came as a cold shock when the comm officer reported, "Sir, the Emporer's ship has exitted from warp just oustide the outtermost planet.

Yuroth gritted his teeth, "Prepare my shuttle." Turning from the bridge, he prepared to make his report.

The Emporer's contingency was comprised of his massive Primary cruiser, The Moorenkyl, easily ten times the size of the varagoth. It had five Varagoth sized cruisers in accompaniment, two long craft carriers, and one massive brick of a ship, a floating workshop carrier that was twice as long as the Varagoth.

Space was riddled with patrols of various ships, shooting too and from, making sure that no force in the universe could threaten the Moorenkyl.

Yuroth gritted his teeth at the display of power on hand. Surely the struggle on Arus would be over in minutes. Sadly, he doubted he would still be alive to see it.

His boot crunched under heel as he knelt in the massive throneroom of Emporer Z'ayrkon. This room was empty other than Commander Yuorth, who gave his report from the base of the massive set of steps leading up to the imposingly smooth dias, and the Emporer himself.

Giant columns, like ribs, surrounded the room, and a brilliant light, like daylight, filtered down through the strange ceiling of bio-nodules.

The Emporer listened patiently as Yuroth told him of Captain Kogaine's escape. As Yuroth began to speak of the Lions, he was interrupted, "Yes, I have seen the tactical readouts on these weapons. Five lions, each of differing colors."

Yuroth had stopped in mid sentenced, surprised at the sudden interruption. He had handed his report personally to the porter upon entering the ship. There had been no way that Emporer Z'ayrkon had been given sufficient time to read them!

It was then that the revalation that there must be a spy on board the Varagoth. Someone who had transmitted the data, probably the whole time. Yuroth wasn't really surprised. He should have known that there would be someone willing to give such dire news to the Emporer in hopes of their own advancement.

Head still down, Yuroth waited.

"Indeed, they seem to be weapons of quite suprising potential. However, I believe that Kogaine himself is more important to us."

The Emporer's claws could be heard clicking against the steps as he made his way down towards where Yuroth knelt.

Yuroth's report was complete. His failure to capture Kogaine was now apparent, and his death would surely be immediate.

He felt a powerful, taloned hand on his shoulder, "Stand, Commander Yuroth."

Carefully, Yuroth stood. His chin set and prepared for whatever followed.

"Your failure to capture Kogaine is certainly disconcerting. However, you have proven your worth in the past. You have stayed at your post and amply fufilled your duties for years without question. Without complaint. For this, I believe your continued persistance in this matter will only yeild benefit for us."

Yuroth met the Emporer's eyes.

He would not die today.

A voice behind him echoed against the sudden silence. It was a soft feminine voice, "And what do we plan then to do about the... Lions."

Yuroth turned before he could stop himself. He had been quite sure that he and the Emporer had been alone in the room. Yet, on a rug not three meters away, the Emporer's concubine and witch stood in a diaphinous gown, her curves illuminated faintly by the strange witchlight that subtly flittered across the tatooed runes that etched her bare body.

At her feet was curled up a large creature. Hairless, with long legs and a cluster of sinewy tails curling around it's body, it glared at Yuroth with four blood red eyes and sabre like fangs bared.

The Emporer stood looking at her for a moment as he pondered the question, "Do you have a suggestion, Hagaar?"

A smile, cold and beautiful appeared on the witches face, "A Dreadnought should be sent. Crush them permanently and without pause."

"Hrm." the Emporer snorted, "Perhaps. He turned from the both, ascending the stairs, "Use a Mark V. That should be more than sufficient enough to shatter what little is left down below. As soon as the operation is complete, we will continue on the removal of our resources from Planet Arus."

At the top of the dais, he turned, "Yuroth, return to your Command. Stay in orbit around Arus, and alert us of further complications."

"And Kogaine?"

"He is to remain our primary target. Continue operations to find him and bring him to us."

Arus
Capital City, directly outside of the Castle

Merla couldn’t believe her eyes.
With no more spiders to worry about, the travel into the city had been simple and quick. Her cybernetic leg was quite powerful, and enhanced her speed a fair amount, once she got used to it.
But the city itself was dark and gloomy, empty, and quiet. Only now, so close to the castle, did her helmet pick up the first signs of life.
Locking onto it, she didn’t even need to run a scan to tell that the loping movement belonged to the Canine soldier. He was alone, and leaving the relative safety of the castle to venture out into the city in the dark night.
The hour was now late. It had taken her about two hours to reach this point. Up on the rooftops, she watched as the glimmering pinpoint of heat tromped through the streets and into a nearbye building.
A quick survey of the building and she was sure it was some type of dilapidated parking garage.
Quickly, she moved towards it, a smile on her reptilian lips.

It didn’t take Sven long to find a couple of large vehicles. He would need one to haul equipment from the downed carrier back into the castle itself.
The vehicles were obviously once container haulers of some type, and bore heavy treads as their means of locomotion.
They were all parked in one area on the second floor of the garage where Hunk said he had found the working hover truck.
Now, the problem was getting the three to make up one that worked. One of them had a shattered transmission; one was out of fuel from a large gash in the tank. The final one had some strange electrical problems that kept it from turning over.
Quickly, Sven set to cannibalizing the others to make one that would operate.
The garage was almost choking in its rich atmosphere. The sections that would have normally been open to the outside were crushed near here, leaving a culdesac of dust, grease, and vaporized fueling agents that made his sensitive nose cringe.
But after working on the lions, the work on a vehicle like this seemed almost like child’s play. It wasn’t long before a series of comparisons between the large vehicles gave him a good idea of what worked, and what didn’t.

Merla was careful as she made her way down through the large cracked slabs of concrete into the interior of the garage. She judged the hot winds that blew and kept opposite of where they would take her scent to the red orange blip several floors below.
Quickly and efficiently she neared the area, as her helmet read data of several electrical sources powering up.
She moved around into a position behind some heavy rubble where she had a clear view through the darkened interior of the garage right to where the Canine was working on the large vehicles.

Sven turned the ignition switch again, only to hear a loud chugging and a bang as something rolled away from under the truck.
Swearing in his native guttural language, he leaned out, looking in the long shadows of the three vehicles headlights to see what he had lost.
Sighing, he sat back. His eyes were aching and his nose burned from the fumes here. Plus, he hadn’t gotten any sleep and the hour was getting really, really late.

Merla silently swore. The windshield of the vehicle made a clean shot with a stun setting a little harder. She could terminate him easily enough, but with the dead end setup of the garage, and no other GFA members around to help, there seemed little reason to do so.
She had already setup a local area jamming field, to ensure that whatever follows would not be interrupted, and a series of quickly rigged traps cut off any hope of escape for the Canine. He was already captured, he just didn’t know it.
But Merla knew that over confidence would be a mistake. The Canine was a good fighter, and she was still unsure of just how well armed he was.
Still, she believed she could make the shot easily enough.

Sven stretched and decided it was nearly time to get back. He opened his comm. Channel, “Sven to Hunk, you there? I need some help in the garage I think…”
Nothing.
“Sven to Hunk. Captain, Pidge, Lance, anyone?”
Nothing.
Something seemed wrong all of the sudden. Something buried in the Canine’s subcionscious began to ring alarm bells.
Sven knew to trust those bells, and he immediately jumped from the truck, even as a shattering crash echoed loudly from the windshield!
Tumbling, he rammed himself against a smaller vehicle and carefully looked out into the long shadows from the truck’s lights.
“Whoever you are, come out and face me like a true warrior!”

Merla rolled her eyes. What did he think this was, playtime? She palmed a silver cylinder, similar to the one she had used before and thumbed the dial to the appropriate setting. Counting carefully, she set up her rifle just before lobbing the small grenade towards where the Canine ‘hid.’
It rolled gently in the air, and suddenly erupted into a wide area electrical discharge field, knocking through the vehicular barrier the Canine had chosen, and throwing him clear by several meters!
Even as the Canine rolled, Merla locked and fired her gun.
The silent recoil was the only thing signifying the blast, and the Canine only jerked slightly and then remained still.
Standing, she did a quick scan. His vitals were stable, but seemed to signify a stunned state.
She made her way silently to him. She kicked aside his weapon, and plucked a device of some type, a crystal badge, from his hand. Tossing it aside as well, she hefted up the Canine’s dead weight and went to collect her traps.

The Varagoth
Main Bridge

Unsettled, Yuroth found he was unable to sleep after the reptilian went about her new duties. For a while he had lain in bed, but eventually he found himself returning to the command bridge. He began to scan through records to see who the informant to the Emporer might be.
It was then that he heard the transmission on the comm station, *This is Merla to the Varagoth. Target B has been acquired, alive.*
There was no more, nore would there be. She would wait ten minutes for a reply and then she would make her own decision.
Quickly, Yuroth sent a coded transmission request to the Emporer’s vessel. He smiled as he received the reply. His request was accepted.
The Communication officer turned to him, “Sir?”
“Transmit back these coordinates.” He transferred the coordinates to the officer, “Tell her I will arrive in two hours.”
Yuroth stood and turned to leave the bridge. He would fly point guard to the Dreadnought.

Castle Arus
Main Bridge

Allura watched in rapt fascination as Nani took the bridge. The older woman had walked almost in instinct, with her eyes focused on another time as she moved down the rows of computers. She touched the back of one of the chairs and then pushed it aside, immediately beginning to flip on various keyed sequences which brought panel after panel to life.
A few of the units sparked and sputtered, and then died, but within an hour, Nani had actually brought the bridge to startling life!
Sweat poured from both her and Allura as they worked to activate castle systems that had long been powered off. Streams of questions and subchecks that would have normally been done by twenty or more people were answered at a feverish pace as the night wore on.
Eventually Nani leaned back with a sigh, “Hardley any of the satellites surrounding Arus are responding. I have readouts from two main sattelites, both in the southern hemisphere, and then readouts from three data satellites that are scattered across the globe. Those three are mainly used for weather pattern readouts.”
She getstured at the console Allura had been using earlier, “That one was what picked out that abnormality you showed me. Wasn’t much, but your Captain was wise to act on it when he did.”
Allura nodded, “Why did it only show up so briefly?”
Nani shrugged,”It looked like it must have had something that deflected the transmission. At any rate, the whole thing was a one in a million catch.”
“What about the other satellites. Is it a matter of powering them up?”
“No.” Nani frowns as she picks mindlessly at the thick graying braid of hair on her shoulder, “Their power supplies should have lasted for far more than ten years. Most last for half a century. There may have been power loss to one or two, but most should still be fine.”
“Then are they gone?”
“We don’t know. Not without looking. It could be as simple as some type of alignment problem. If we’re even a tenth of a degree off, we could miss the satellite completely. If the satellite has a mechanical proble, then we’d just have to get someone up there to fix it.”
The elevator on the far side slid open, and a rather sleepy looking Hunk lumbered on the bridge and waved at Allura. His eyes were dazed as he made his way across the bridge and into the room that held the long distance communication equipment.
Nani grunted, “They’re burning the wick at both ends. If they don’t get rest…”
Allura nodded. Keith hadn’t checked in yet, but both Pidge and Lance had come past right when they had arrived and said something about getting some sleep.
“We had better get some rest too. We can get back to this first thing in the morning…”

Hunk had gotten a message a little while ago from Sven. The Canine wanted some help pulling some equipment, but was going to see about procuring more vehicles first. Hunk decided to take the time in between and see if he couldn’t get the radio up and running any more than it was.
Sven was dead on the money though, that Drule carrier would most likely contain more than enough parts to fix the radio, even possibly to upgrade it.
Luckily, Hunk noticed that the dead body had been removed from the smaller room. He quickly set to pulling out panels, exposing wires that would need to be hooked to new parts… It was easy for him to lose track of time.
It wasn’t until Keith wandered in, startling the mechanic, that he realized just how easy it was.
“Hey Hunk, have you seen Sven?”
Hunk looked at the time and realized it was past midnight already!
“He was supposed to contact me over an hour ago!” the mechanic shoved himself out from under the equipment.
Keith’s narrow eyes darkened, “I’ve finished repairs to the Black lion… well… mostly at any rate. He was going to go out to the carrier…”
Hunk nodded, “He was gathering some vehicles first, and told me he’d contact back as soon as he needed help.”
“Keith to Sven. You out there? Keith to Sven!”
There was no reply.
“I don’t like this. You still have that hover truck? Let’s go!”

The truck pulled up outside of the large parking garage. Quickly, Keith scanned the building and saw light coming from one of the sections.
The two of them left the truck and made their way up through the rebble strewn levels until they reached a trio of vehicles whose lights were still throwing long shadows in the darkness.
“Smell that?” Hunk muttered.
Keith nodded, “Ozone, electrical discharge of some type.”
Hunk did a scan through his helmet, “Some kind of electrical concussion blast from the looks of it. Look at what it did to that car!” he pointed to a newly charred door frame.
A glint in the trucks lights caught Keith’s eyes. Leaning down he picked the object. It was the silver and blue crystal key to the lion! Not two meters away, Sven’s handgun was lying abandoned on the floor…

Keith growled as he pocketed the lion crystal. "Keith to Pidge, wake up! We need your biometric scanners."
As he said this Captain Kogane began inspecting the scene to determine what happened and where Sven had been taken to, 'at least Keith HOPED he'd been taken...

Hunk gripped his rifle tightly. Sven had been going a little off the reservation since they reached this planet, but he didn't want the old dog to get put down. Not like this. He couldn't offer a better idea than Keith already had, so he kept his eyes peeled for any enemy forces that might be closing on them.

Over the badge's comm, Pidges voice came sleepily, *What? I've only been asleep for a few hours!*

Keith rolled his eyes, "That's more than we've had. Sven's been taken just outside the city. We need a trail, and I'm betting the Green lion can give us one!"

There's a pause on the other end, and then a sigh, *Ok, I guess we have to save dog boy again. I'll be at your position in ten minutes.*

"Hurry!" Keith cut the transmission.

Outside the city.

Merla stopped to catch her breath, and to make sure her 'cargo' was still unconscious.

Uncerimoniously she dropped the Canine to the ground, and did a quick scan. Estimates put him out for at least another fifteen minutes. That should be pleanty of time to get to their destination.

Once she had left the city limits, she had turned on the speed. Her new leg allowed her to travel at remarkable speeds, reaching nearly 100 kph!! Though, her metabolism would need to refresh once she had reached her destination. She didn't sweat, of course, but her lungs burned and her muscles were starting to ache. A gnawing hunger was beginning to build inside of her.

Still, she had put ten kilometers distance between her and the outskirts of the city already, and only in a matter of minutes.

Quickly, she hoisted him up on her shoulder. Looking up into the night sky, she noted a distant twinkling in the atmosphere. Something that was not star nor planet, something that was growing closer.

Yuroth would reach the destination just in time for the Canine prisoner to wake up and realize his situation.

Quickly, she hefted the unconscious weight and started her final sprint.

Castle of Arus

Pidge rubbed at his eyes and gave off a few choice curse words in several different languages. Grabbing the armor plates, he pulled them on as he headed for the door to his bedroom.

In the hallway, he tripped and fell uncerimoniously as he tugged on his leg armor. Swearing loudly he pulled himself up just as a sleepy eyed and stunning Allura opened her door.

"What's wrong?" the dark haired princes was wearing a long and not particularly attractive bed dress. But there was something about her that still made Pidge's reply delayed as he gaped.

"Uh... Sven's been captured. I'm going to the green lion now to help search."

Allura's eyes shot open, "What?!" she gave off a curse word of her own, "I'll wake Nani and see if we can't help from the control room!"

Outside the Castle

Ten anxious minutes later, the Green lion landed softly outside of the Parking garage.

Keith and Hunk had gone back down to the jeep, and looked up at the massive cat. For the first time, they both noticed a faint woodland smell that seemed to come from the massive cat.

*Ok boss. What do you want me to do?*

Pidge's voice echoed on their com units.

Keith tilted his head to the side in thought, he'd said "helmet" not "lion" didn't he? In truth the Captain was wondering if the lions sensors were fine enough to follow the trail of a body carried over land.

"Green lion should already know Svens' biometrics and DNA signature. I need you to scan for it and track it, we'll follow you to it," Kogane was just hoping it hadn't been tooo long and the trail hadn't gone too far.

Svens unconsious mind played a serious of vistions, somehow he could feel the bumps but his mind played them out as something else.

Sven saw his first time out on a trasport ship the bumpy ride of the overnigh ship to Carin the Canine training camp where he was to begin his jounray.
No one knew this young pup would turn out to be a known warrior

Pidge looked down and began to scan. There were lots of traces of the Canine. Tidbits of fur and dead skin that the Green lion picked up without effort at this close of range. It didn't take long to zero in on the most recent, leading away from the garage.

"Got it Keith!" Pidge scanned the surrounding path and picked up another trace signature, something far different. "I'm reading some kind of reptilian cells out there too. Bet it's that lizard chick that attacked her royalness."

Keith and Hunk had loaded into the hovertruck, *Can you follow it?* Keith's voice echoed through the comm.

"Yeah, but..." Pidge played a moment with the readouts, "This thing is like a hyper detective on steroids! If this is right, whatever was taking him was moving a fair clip. They're probably at least out of the city by now."

Sven's Unconscious Mind

Sven began his year long intensive traning to become a Wolverine the Canine Marine Corps, many on the transport where of Svens age (18 in human years), Svens farther disproved of his only son to join for military service but they lived in a time when even an adlesent can make thier own way, and Sven's father wasnt going to stop him.

The pup next to Sven was called Dekan, his family where all Skywolves all part of the Canine Naval forces he was going to the be first to join the Wolverines he wasnt as tall as Sven but there was something about his carefree attitude that made Sven and the others on the ship relax he would tell jokes that even the pilots would get.

During traning Sven knew one of the dill sargents he was a tall scared Canine with black fur and his muzzle torn and twisted from his years of battle, Sven knew him from his time at the Eltar Embassy where Svens farther was the Canine Embasador, this Sargent was assined there to protect the Canine Embassy on Eltar, as a younger pup Sven always enjoyed his stories of war and once such conflict that was know as the Grate Evacuation. Sven knew that now he was no longer that curious pup he was a Wolverine in traning and would treated like one.

With a loud thud of munitions the 4 man fire team hunkered down in the abaondond forward post Dekan was telling his usual jokes between exploitions to keep the teams nerve, a Canine a year older then Sven worked on the comms system his name was Juro he was much taller then Sven dark brown fur with white patches all over was keeping check on the other teams whereabouts. Silence fell "We have to Move NOW, they are on the move and will swarm here any second" he shouted, the fire team got ready to move each clutching thier Pulse Carbine rifle like they where lovers could hear the low faint pulse of hover tanks apporching, how the hell did they manage to land armour on the planet? that didnt matter now they had to get to the LZ with in 90 minuets or their mission is over "GO" shouted Juro as the Canines bolted out of thier hole, small rounds shot past them Sekra got hit in the back of the leg Sven ran over to pick him up but Juro pulled him back "we cant stay here move now!" he looked down at Sekra "hold them off as long as you can" Sekra nodded and aimed his weapon down the woods.
As they ran he could hear small arms fire few shots then rapid fire then nothing Juro had to yank Sven down the path the LZ was only 2 klicks away but beacuse of a gunship petrol they had to hide for nearly an hour, the team where nearing their LZ the ship was nearing its landing they had to be on that ship.
A bolt shot right past then grazing Sven's arm and advance scouting party had found them, Juro orded Sven and Dekan to provide cover fire, Juro took fire point his job was to provide confusing fire to the enermy he relised this was gonna take too long, he gave Sven the comm pack and ordered them to advance to the LZ and not look back, Juro maintained his rate of fire and scored to kills. Sven and Dekan took this as a sign and ran for it.
As they arrived to the Dropship LZ, Dekan was about to make a b-line for the LZ out skirts Sven's nose twiched he unknown to him he could smell danger was near "Wait Dekan" too late, Dekan was making a mad dash for it, Sven got up to run after him soon there was bolt shots zipping through the air and three direct shots his Dekan on his chest arm and leg flooring him, Sven droped to the dirt aimed his Carbine at the area where the shots had come from, he was getting that scensation again his nose twiched so much he was sure to sneeze, untill..Just as he turned he saw a figure charging over to him with a natual enstinct he turned bringing the butt of his weapon up into the chest of his would be attacker knocking him down flat the attacj reached for his side arm, Sven turned again as the first shot went wide he fired a burst from his carbine and the attacked fell back and not getting back up, but where he came from more would come, his only mission was to get to the LZ, Dekan was down Juro proberly was gone and Sekra was MIA, Sven looked up and could hear the rest comming for him woudl he stand and fight to the end or run like a coward to safty, he grit his teeth sucked in as much air a s his lungs would hold, grabbing his weapon he let out a loud cry in anger he ran to the LZ fireing wildly and blindly he had hit a few on the way, where they kills or wonds he didnt care, his weapon count read 0 but he ran anyway and passed a LZ sentry but his mind was more on the advanceing hord that came behind this feral beast.
Sven trip over one of the rollers in the cargobay of the hip as he ran up the boarding ramp, the Sargent and the sentry had climed aboard the ship as its engins kicked into life kicking up so much dust the enermy couldnt see to shoot and the ship asended into the heavens.

Sven lay on the deck floor panting his sargent stood infront of him looking down "What happend to your fire team trooper?"
"D-dead.." Sven coughed as he looked up through his helmet visour
"Well congratualtions Omega you have passed"
"P-"Sven spat out some flem "passed sir" he asked as he was helped up by some over troopers
"Yes Tybas, Passed you and your fire team have passed the final test"
"What test was that sir?" he asked now leaning on a bulkhead
"The test of Courage, your fire team made choices and you where left with the last choice to make, fight or flee"
"I should of chose fight then my team wouldnt of died"
"The Wolverines may be the toughest in the Canine Armed forces but we still want our soilders to come home, your choice made your teams mission a sucsess if you had fallen with them then the information you optained would never get here, your team knew that at least one of you was to come home, and you did well Tybas, I belive this is the final phase of the training over?"
"I belive so sir" replied the sargent, who with a wave of his hand the dropship cargobay changed to large metalic walls, Dekan, Juro and Sekra all stood there and with a round of applause they all cheered for Sven, who had shown grate courage under fire, even if they where instrutors.

On the seventh day of Lupeo the new grauates where no longer adolesent pups playing soilder, they where now fully qulified Wolverine Omegas each was given their badge of honor and their crossed Katen blades to prove they have gone through the Trials, as Sven recived his, he looked over saw his Drill Instructor, his farther and his monther where all so proud of him. Juro was Sven's Squad Alpha but Sven was made its Beta soon they would be on their first assinment but untill then they where free to go home and enjoy their time befor duty called for them.

The first night Sven had been home since he joined he looked up at his woulds twin moons he smiled, his grandfather had taken him to Arax on Luna1 it was where all the pups wanted to go "when ever those moons shine Lupeo is looking down on us and grate things will allways happen" his grand farther had always said on the day of the moons. No matter where he was in the universe Sven was always able to find the star of his home world.

Keith growled, they were loosing too much time. "Pidge, follow it then, don't wait for us, your only priority is retreaving Sven before they get off planet with him."

//What makes you think they want to do that?// asked Pidge.

"Because there's only two reasons they'd keep him alive, to take him back to the Varagoth or lure us into a trap, I'm hoping they're not expecting us to come in with a 50 ton lion hot on their heels. Hunk and I will head back to the castle and catch up as soon as we can."

'Poor Lance,' muttered Keith as he debated wether or not he was going to wake the last lion pilot even though he knew he had to, this was too important to leave him out of things.

"Keith to Lance," started the Captain as he got in the Hover truck. "We have a situation..."

Lance's voice answered groggily, *Is there anything but 'situations' on this planet?*

Quickly, Keith apprised him of what was going on. Hunk had alread kicked the hover truck into gear, and was pulling up to the Castle as Keith finished.

The two of them disembarked and headed for the Cathedral at a dead run.

Green Lion

The green lion shifted and lept through the roads of the street. Unfortunately the trail was so small, that it would keep Pidge from using the full speed of the lion, and from flying after Sven and his captor. Still, the lion was fast and agile, covering ground much quicker than anyone could by foot, especially lugging the Canine along!

Only seconds after beginning, Pidge noticed something... Something was streaking down from the sky. It was something large, and the Green lion's scanners didn't know what to make of it! Whatever it was, it was landing some miles outside of the city, directly in line with where he was headed.

Pidge grimaced, "Keith, you guys better hurry up. I think the Drule just sent reinforcements..."

The Castle

*...sent reinforcements.* Keith paused. That wasn't good. Lance was jumping out of his room as he and Hunk rounded the corner.

The pilot of the Red Lion grimaced as he fiddled with the armoring, "Allura and Nani apparently are already in the command center. They've been monitoring the skies and saw something come down out towards where Pidge was going."

Dropsight A

Merla stood over the Canine as she watched the monstrous dropship land perpendicular to the ground. It pushed into the dirt with a heavy grinding noise as it's twisted surface lit the night with an eerie reddish glow. Great plates of clear material shimmered down as gears twisted inside of the obelisk, and bio-organs pumped fluids throughout the interior in preparation.

She had never seen one of the Ro-B drops up this close. Every inch of it was made to intimidate and cause fear. Even knowing her relative safety, she could not supress a slight tremor as fear shot through her subconscious.

There was a full squadron of Drule Fighters circling it, and one cruiser that sloped it's way to softly land, crushing several nearby splitery trees that were in it's way.

It's sloped spread wings were reminicent of something biological, as were most of the Drule heavier ships. It bristled with armory, and there was little doubt who it contained.

Presently, Yuroth himself, along with a small group of Drule officers, and a sizeable number of Drule Androids, were standing with Merla in the clearing. The red glow of the giant drop casket and the heavy dust clouds in the air giving everything and everyone a surreal appearance.

The Canine commander barely glanced at Merla as he knelt down, examining the Canine, "Captain Merla, you still have a job to do. Dismissed."

If you were to blink, you would have missed the reptilian form as it blended into the long shadows of the dried trees and disappeared.

Standing, Yuroth called to a subordinate, "Wake him. Full Stem shot. I want him completely awake, aware, and ready to fight."

Everything came into roaring, vivid life. From the darkness and misty dreams of half forgotten memories, Sven found himself in the midst of a Lovecraftian nightmare! He was in some kind of clearing of dried tinder and rocks. Yuroth and a sqaud of Drule goons stood encircling him, and all were lit in a reddish glow from a massive obelisk that towered high over the dried treetops! Metal forged like giant veins spaced out massive clear panels that seemed to pulse and surge as a thich red glowing fluid swirled around gears and organs inside of it! He wasn't sure where he was, but the sense of vertigo from the cataclysmic scene was mind boggling.

He reached for a weapon, and found his pistol gone. He reached for his comm badge, and found the Blue crystal key was missing!

Then, the garage came back to him. The unseen attacker, and the sudden blast of concussive energy!

With a low growl, he looked up at Yuroth.

"Greetings, cub." Yuroth frowned. There was no sneer in his voice, no pomposity, just simply a commanding statement of fact, "You have been judged by the Canine ruling faction to be a traitor and a terrorist. Immediate sentence to be carried out is that of death. As the only official representative of the Canine and the Fenrir, I have been ordered to personally see to the completion of this sentence. If you have a final prayer howl, or statement, now is the time."

***Racing towards The Cathedral of Lions***

Keith was torn, two lions, two keys, and though the Captain was certain he could use either the real question was which was better for carry Sven home. The Black Lion was faster andmore powerful, but the blue was built for defencem was more likely to be able to carry passengers and was birthed in the closest thing they had for a med bay, if it came to that. Most importantly he could NOT bring both keys, that would just be too dangerous especially if the unthnkable happened.

"Plan for the worst," muttered Kogane.

"What?" asked Lance barely hearing his captains grumble.

"Keith to Allura, I'm leaving the black key in the cathedral of lions on the central dias and taking the Blue. Please retrieve it." There were barely scant moments left before Keith put down the black key and raced on for the Blue entrance. "Remember people this is a rescue op, get Sven, get out, fight only as we must!"

Hunk ran for the entrance to the Pyramid of Sands, his expression firm and tense as his lungs burned. He was never meant for sprinting... But this insanity was getting out of hand. They just needed a little more time.

Rushing through the portal of sand, he charged to the Lion. "Sand, link the yellow lion to the green one's scanning system. We have to gun it!"

The Yellow Lion released it's control pod to Hunk, he twisted with his jump, landing backward into it. Replacing his helmet, he let the Lion take him up into its core, and then the Yellow machine gave a great roar before shooting through the exit path at its full speed.

"This is Hunk. I'm en-route."

***Waters of Peace***

Keith actually found it quite refreshing to rush through the shower of water that sealed off the Waters of Peace from the castle. Some part of Keith wondered what marvelous technology the Aurusian must have had to create these archways and whished they were still here to solve thier current problems. He shoved such whishful thinking from his mind as he strode across the seabed towards the Blue Lion.

"You posses the blue key," notted a vaporus voice with a note of confusion from what Keith assumed was the Waters' version of "Wind'.

"No," admitted Keith. "Sven is in trouble and I'm taking Blue to go save him."

At this the Lion seemed to sit up, as if alert or eager. With a silent hiss and the sound of steel impacting sand the entry plug opened. Keith slid inside and plugged the key in watching as the lion "came alive". With a burst of power and force the Blue Lion launched from the lake homing in on the signals of the Yellow and Green.

Sven looked up at the voice his vistion blurry he blinked to regain his sight, he could now see Yuroth standing over him, he smiled "Didnt expect to see your type here, getting your robes dirty" he gets up to face him "you know I do not reconise the Fenrir AS the ruleing goverment, Artical 45 of the Canine Justice system means I have the right to challenge you to combat!

"Do NOT quote the Old laws to me traitor. You should know better than anyone that traitors are executed, or don't you remember what happend to Verilto"
"She WASNT a traitor She disagreed with the Fenrir and she was exicuted for it!"

"It was YOU and your kind's mistaken cause that pulled the trigger on her, Tybas. You may not of killed her yourself, but her blood and that of your other 'resistance' friends are definitively on your hands"

Sven turned grabbing Yuroth by his robes looking with anger and hatred growling at him, the Drule troopers raised their weapons at Sven and approched. Yuroth waved his hand for them to stand them down. He looked at Sven, who released his grip. Yuroth patted down his clothing he then turned and leaned down to him "Remember who taught you everything you know Sven. You were once a promising soilder and officer. Perhaps you could join us and return home? I am willing to change your charges on one simple condition..."

"Whats that?" Sven growled

A wide grin appered on Yuroth's lips "Repent your crimes against your goverment, join us willingly, and give us the location of the other fugitives and their Lion ships"
"And in return?"
"Your barganing posture is highly devious, but very well, we will spare this planet and those GDF lackies you have allied your self with. Yuroth signaled to his troops who yanked Sven up onto his feet
Svens mind was running all over

GM Note: Edits. Yuroth's plan is not for Sven to leave the planet. He's already had delays take one goal out of his reach, and he realizes that the Lions are likely on their way soon, if they aren't already. He will accept the challenge, but he is waiting for your answer to his offer first. Also, as portrayed before, Yuroth isn't the kind to go around slapping others for their cooperation. Also editted Yuroth's speach for grammar ;-)

Blue Lion

Keith struggled a little with the controls of the Blue. Instead of the void-like winds of the arm holsters, the Blue lion's felt like frigid water!

The lion was also a lot more sluggish than the Black was. Not in it's movements, but in it's response time. Almost as if there was some impasse between Keith and the controls themselves.

As he worked the controls, his arms felt numb and tingling from the deep cold. Still, the Blue rose into the air, and began to head towards the Green Lion's position.

Dropsight A

Yuroth stood, looking at Sven, "Well, pup? It is your choice. Your records were impressive, and I would be more than happy to accept your Blood Challenge. However, you would be more useful as a Captain in the Canine army once again."

The Commander was no fool. He could judge Sven's muscle mass, and videos and data gathered from Merla's previous encounters allowed him a solid idea of the Canine terrorist's abilities in battle. This challenge of Sven's was no matter to be taken lightly. However, the Blood Challenge was an Old Law, and Yuroth would not deny one of his people, even a terrorist, the honor of a rightful death in hand to hand combat. Even were Yuroth to loose, Sven would still be executed. The Old Law was never meant for one to scapegoat the law or their fate. However, Yuroth was one of the best fighters on their homeworld. It wasn't something thought in bragging, it was simple truth. The Drule cybernetic emplacements only enhanced those abilities.

The Lions, if they show, were the only problem. Granted, the Ro-B above him would make short work of them, but it would be much, much nicer to be able to keep them intact for the Emporer's investigation.

"You choice, Sven Tybas Silver?"

Sven looked over at Yuroth "the Blood challenge allows me to choose the weapon and YOU have to honour it"
In the every back of his mind he was trying to remember where Yuroth was from, and how he knew of his skills in combat, thinking back he saw the interior of a Canine dropship, at the back near the rear boarding ramp sat four Canine soilders all kitted out in black armour heads fully covered eyes behind reflective visors these troopers where know as the Mori'Kay or Black Wolves, these where the Elite of the Elite one turned his head and must of seen Sven looking at him, could that of been Yuroth? It couldnt have these guys where the most Honour bound soliders in the entire Canine military, they would never betray their people. If it was, Sven would have a fight on his hands, these men where trained, it was roumored, from a very young age, orphanes userly, trained killers they show no remorse, no sorrow and no mercay. It has also been roumored that these Cannine would even kill Wolverines to compleate their mission.

Sven looked back at Yuroth who was seeming to be getting impatinet
"I chose the Katen blade"

The Katen blades where a long broad sword design with curved handel and long thick balde in the olden days of the Canine race this weapon was given to those who proven them selves in battle, the first was Lupeo a Canine Guardsman from Velison Province who after nearly 25 years of battle, delvoped the Trials a serise of tests to prove how worthy Canine soilders where and the Ketan blade was given to those who pasted all the trials. Today's Canine soilders are given two types, the first is a badge they attach to their uniforms and a real one for sermonial use

Allura had run to awaken Nani and request her assistance in the control room. The woman had come reluctantly from her first free night of sleep, but she came nonetheless. The two made it to the control tower, only to find a blinking light indicating a message. Nani flipped the switch and Keith's message came across the speaker.

With a look that bordered on incredulity, Allura looked to Nani, "Why on Arus would he just leave it there?!" She turned and made to leave. "Monitor the channels, please. I'll retrieve the key and be back in short order." She assumed Nani nodded, for there was no dissent voiced, and Allura was already out the door.

The Blue Lion caught up with the Yellow though Keith was refraining from doing anything too flashy or nimble whilst he control interface was being so sluggish. Seeing that they were gaining on Pidghem, all be i slowly, the captain allowed something of a grin to cross his features. 'Stupid move Keith. "Katen blades it is." Yuroth gestured to one of the Drule officers, who turned and ran back to the ship at a breakneck speed.

Presently, he returned with a large case, containing two very well crafted blades. They shimmered with gold inlay over reinforced bone that was polished so smooth that they gleamed like ivory.

These were rare. Very rare. Blades of that quality were in fact given only to true masters of the Canine military!

In the velvet lined case, the silvery badges symbolizing the bars off rank glistened in the red light of the massive obelisk that towered above their heads. If they were true, then Yuroth had achieved the rank of Senior Alpha Grade 2 in the Canine forces!!

That being true, he should have been put out to pasture. The news could be good... it could mean that Sven might actually have an age advantage over Yuroth.

Then again, the blades meant that Yuroth was no stranger to their form or use. And a pack leader that had attained that high of rank...

Sven reached for the blade, carefully plucking it out of the box. Yuroth nodded and pulled the other blade.

For the first time, Sven noticed the size of the clearing in front of the obelisk. An area was shorn free of vegetation, just slightly over the required amount needed for such a Blood duel. There was even markings denoting the Circle, where neither combatant would leave until the duel was over.

Yuroth looked at the edge of his blade as he took place across the circle, "I doubt I have to explain the Challenge to you. Regardless of the outcome, you will die tonight. If you do prove to best me, then you will be immediately executed, as there are no other Canine present to continue the fight. However, I will make sure that you die an honorable death here in this ring."

Yuroth raised his blade and bowed to Sven, even as Sven found himself doing the same from his own position in the circle. It was a ceremonial flourish, a gesture of honor between warriors.

"I must admit, I had hoped you would agree to this. I've seen your records, and your skills were well noted. It has been a long time since I faced a good opponent." Yuroth switched to the gutteral growling language of the Canine and barked a final statement. Roughly translated it meant, 'May the Moon guide your path through the darkness of our final sleep.'

It wasn't long before the lions all gathered together. From off in the forest, a red, pulsing light seemed to come from some object, just slightly too far away to make out.

*I don't like this Keith.* Pidge sounded worried, *I'm picking up some seriously crazy readings from whatever that thing is. My scanners are having a hard time locking it down though!*

Lance chimed in, *Whatever it is, we're also down one lion. These things are powerful, but we're not exactly seasoned pilots when we're in them.*

Keith's arms ached from the cold. The Blue lion seemed willing, but there was just some impasse that was making it hard for him to control.

They would reach the clearing in a matter of seconds. But what would they do when they got there?

GM NOTE! The next set of replies should be SHORT. Don't jump into a battle or a prolonged sequence (or if you are really compelled to do so, PM me first and let me make sure it fits in with what's happening!)

Cathedral of Lions

Allura stooped and scooped up the key. It felt odd in her hand. Cold, alien. Something forged from a different dimension than hers. The massive central column pulsed with life though. Each of the gates closed, but ready at any moment for their pilot's return.

Great streams of sunlight-like light filtered down throught he cracked windows overhead, etching the room in a soft, glowing warm radiance.

*Allura* Nani's voice echoed through the key itself, *Something came down out there. I don't have enough sensors to tell what it is, but it left a trail of fire a quarter mile large as it came down. It didn't impace like a meteor though... and I didn't see any sign of an explosion. It's right for where the lions are heading.*

Nani's voice was very matter-of-fact. As if she hadn't just announced one more massive complication to this whole situation.

The Princess silently swore.

She stood up, holding the key up in the sunlight, unconciously facinated at the way the light seemed to absorb into its surface.

Something behind her pulled softly at her.

She turned to see the Black gateway. It was sealed. The key was in her hand and not in the free standing column next to it.

Like that.

She didn't even remember walking over... didn't remember sliding the key into place.

All she knew is that the void stretched open before her feet, pulling and calling to her, dragging her with it's silent echo to join it in oblivion.

There was something sad in the breathless wind. Something comforting.

She wasn't sure when she took the step forward into the darkness. All she knew is that the weightless chill of the drop plunged her heart into sheer terror. She was falling through the very fabric of reality itself!

The icey numbness of death and the eternal krept over her, and from the darkness she heard a familiar voice...

--Allura--

She was falling... letting go...

--Allura!--

She hit something, hard. It ground at her skin with a vibrant heat, shockingly, burningly different from the cold of the void!

Searing grains burned around her, scratched at her skin, slid into areas and crevasses best left untouched!

Then she was free, panting, on her hands and knees in soft, flickering torchlight.

Around her, the scent of spicy incense hung in the dry, warm air. The ground was sandy, and the sound of a quiet reedlike instrument seemed to hum just beyond the audible range of perception.

Standing shakily she looked around. She wasn't entirely sure where she was, or how she had gotten here.

The walls sloped upward and a triangular angle, meeting off in the darkness high above the flickering light of massive bonfires that took up each corner. Across the floor were stoneworks that looked ancient, each marked with rows of odd pictures, symbols with some lost unknown meaning.

Not far off, two massive tomblike entrances flanked a wide flat area. It was then that she began to guess where she was. It was definitely one of the lion's hangars. From the looks of things... Yellow lion?

But why...?

Over the noiseless wind, a voice could be heard calling her name, calling her towards one of those massive tomb entrances, where a statue of a half-naked cat-headed woman stood guard.

"We just stick to the plan, get Sven, get in, get out," affirmed Keith. "Fight only as much as we need. If we're lucky we'll just need to fight enough to Bloody their nose and get them to withdraw."

Of couyrse Keith didn't believe that for a second but he really saw no other option...no other GOOD option at any rate...

Allura knew she should probably get back, but after a moment's thought, realized that Nani could take care of everything from the control room easier than she could, so things were in hand. Besides....How often did one get an opportunity like this?

Not sure what she was geting herself into, but eager to find out, she moved where it felt she was being pulled, or called.

The swords clacked noisily in the night as Sven grappled and parried with Yuroth. The older Commander was definitely skilled. His movements flowed evenly from one attack to another as he hammered Sven with a downpouring rain of swift attacks.

Sven was also quite good, and he quickly undercut and dove free from the other Canine's attack, pushing his own agenda to find better footing as his blade whined through the warm air.

The battle itself was etched in the reddish pulse of the massive, obscene obelisk that towered above the trees. Sven had no time to wonder about it, or what it might mean for the survivors of Arus.

He could only act on instinct, deflect... attack...deflect... attack.

It was only minutes before both of them bore a number of minor wounds. Gashes that would hurt later, but that for the moment adrenaline kept from registering.

There was no banter, no witty remarks. Neither fighter saw this for anything more than it was, a deathmatch between two capable and dangerous opponents. There would be no quarter given, nor taken. This match would find one... or both of them dead.

Sven's muscles began to ache, throbbing from the pounding blows that he deflected with lightning reflexes.

But it would take more. Every attack that Yuroth made became quicker, more precise, outpacing Sven as if he could tell where the best place to attack was.

The older Canine had skill, but there was something more. What he used was beginning to border on precognition... or... tactical...

It snapped into place in Sven's mind. He could see the cybernetic optic rotate and glint with every strike! For such a large emplacement, the optic certainly didn't do anything as simple as grant regular sight!

Without a doubt, it must have been scanning, registering everything that Sven did against it, feeding tacticle information back to the Commander.

At first, the fight had been evenly matched, but the scales were rapidly tipping. It was becoming harder and harder for Sven to deflect the slicing blade.

He had to take out the optic, had to...

LUNGE!

Sven's arm shot forward, scraping against metal or bone as it hit the side of Yuroth's head.

The Commander growled and knocked Sven's arm askew, overbalancing the Canine who had thrown his all into the lunging attack.

As Sven spun around, bringing his sword to bear again, there was a sharp, wrenching pain in his arm, and a sickening crunch that was audible throughout the clearing as Yuroth twisted the broad bladed weapon.

A yanking jerk followed the twist, and Sven's mind began to reel from the shattering pain that shot through his entire body.

"The word is given." Keith growls as he pushed the Blue forward.

The other lions quicly outpaced him, heading for the clearing in a burst of speed. The red pulsing object soon grew and took form as they saw a massive rectangular mesh of bone, metal, and flesh rising out of the forest floor. It's surface glittered and seemed to shift beneath the great panes of clear material that made it's surface. It was at least a hundred and fifty meters tall!

*I don't like the looks of that thing! Could the Varagoth even be carrying something that large?* Lance's voice sounded from ahead.

"Find Sven, we'll worry about it later." Keith snapped.

Pyramids of the Lands

Allura carefully followed the sound, travelling beneath the arched entryway of the cavern. No one was here. Not Hunk, not the Lion... yet as she decended into the heavily scented darkness, she felt sure that a crowd of people were waiting for her down below.

"Allura."

"I'm here. Father?"

The stone walls seemed to grow colder here as light seemed to slip away behind her. Deeper, further down at a slow descent.

Time seemed to be grinding to a halt.

Then, ahead of her, a faint glow shown off the great stone walls of the chamber.

Immediately she was aware of what the room was. Of what it could only be.

Ornate Sarcophagi sat in alcoves along the stone walls. Statues stood gracing columns and small stone buildings.

The size of the tomb was immense. In it, people walked... no.. they didn't quite walk. They just moved from one place to another.

Allura suddenly realized she was in the center, and the people were all around her. Faces looking up, eyeless, but as real and solid looking as if they were alive.

"...father..." she barely managed to whisper.

Dropsight A

Sven felt an immense weight on his arm. Heard the sword clatter to the ground as a tingling, burning sensation. He could feel a slight popping as Yuroth withdrew the sword, and a sudden flood of warmth burning down his side.

His vision was rapidly growing hazier.

A part of his mind sat disassociated with what was happening. Coldly, he knew that the sword had gone through high on his arm. it had gone through the bone, and Yuroth's twist had likely shattered the bones completely. He also guessed that his subclavian artery probably had popped when the sword came out, and he would 'bleed out' in a matter of seconds.

His body was growing cold, and his life was drawing to an end.

Yuroth pulled the blade free. His optic was glitching and he would have a headache quickly from the damage, but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed.

Part of him was sad to see the Canine die. He had truly been a good swordsman, if a bit untempered.

He raised the sword, ready to deliver the final strike and end it cleanly.

Suddenly, a ball of flame shattered the night air sending a wave of heat in a rush of air as it splattered against the landing ship!

Yuroth turned to see the ship undamaged, and spun back to see the Green and Red lions descend from the skies! The ship was already returning fire in heavy pulse blasts as his officers grabbed his arm, "Commander, the time is up, we've got to go. He's finished!"

Yuroth tore from their arms, "NO! The execution must be..." he brought his sword down, but it met with a loud CRACK as it connected with something solid above Sven's head!

Suddenly, the trees shattered outward at the end of the clearing, the Blue lion stepped through with a thundering, wounded roar!

Yuroth saw the shield of ice that hovered above the Canine's head. With a growl, he plucked his sword free. The officer behind him pulled at his arm again, "Sir!"

Defiantly, Commnader Yuroth gazed into the crystal green eyes of the Blue Lion. It's jaws opened, slathering, and a hailstorm of ice spears shot out as it roared in anger.

The Officer fell, bleeding from a shaft of ice that gouged through his stomach.

Yuroth was knocked back, several shafts jutting from his body. He plucked the important ones free, even as a Drule android stepped in front of him and began to fire in vain at the massive lion.

Keith was a little bewildered. The lion was acting irrational, it wasn't under his control, at least not fully.

The hailstorm roar was weak in power, and unfocused. Keith didn't activate it. It was almost as if as soon as Sven registered on the sensors, the lion went crazy!

Right now, as far as Keith could tell, Sven was encased in ice... or hardened water... whatever.

The ship on the ground next to the columns was trading a rather viscious round of firepower with the Red and Green lions. According to the Red lion's scans, the ship was very, very well armed.

Even as Keith struggled to get the Blue to run a scan on it's defensive capabilities, Hunk was crashing into the clearing behind him.

The landing ship was pulling up, Yuroth and his officers having boarded. A few straggling Drule Androids were on the ground, firing vainly up at the lions.

Yuroth appeared on the screen, *Commander Keith. I'm sorry you interrupted Sven's right as a combatant. I had tried to make his death a clean one. As it is, I'm afraid that your deaths will not be so clean.*

At that moment the massive casing gave one vibrant pulse that stayed lit. Inside, clockwork gears meshed with organs and veins in a pulsating dance as the surface began to slide and shift apart piece by piece. Reddish liquids and gels poured out on the ground in a hissing tidal display! Even as Keith watched, the first, lumbering trunk of a heavily armored gigantic leg stepped free.

"Oh how delightful," Hunk muttered dryly as he watched the giant craft start to transform. A dark edge had fallen across his eyes. He'd risked a quick glance to Sven's data from the Green Lion's sensors. He growled physically, and the Yellow Lion braced firmly on the ground, growling with him.

The landscape trembled violently, and a giant slab of earth directly under the lion suddenly snapped up to one side... catapulting the yellow lion straight into the shin of the newly revealed 'leg' from the giant obelisk. The Yellow Lion did a four-paw body-slam, aiming to tear into the limb at full power.

***Blue Lion***

//Lance, Pidge, see if you can't jam that thing up so it can't finish birthing!//

There was no point in fighting the Blue Lion, even though Keith had no idea HOW it was fighting him to begin with. "No sentience," Keith muttered uider his breathe. "Riiight."

So he didn't bother fighting the hellcat, instead he used it's rage. The Blue Lion leapt forward, crushing drule andriods and sending others flying from the impact. The Lion was situated to protect Sven, it's trunk hovering over the wounded canine.

"Seal that thing!" Keith urged directing the lions' ire at the coffin-come-womb. The lion roared water vapor barreling forward to slam into the coffin-thing and began to solidify into thick sheets of ice. Keithy doubted it would have much of an effect but it was, mopre or less, his last option. "Now let's get Sven outta here!"

[I think you said the Blue, Yellow and Black had some small capacity to transport others when Keith asked. Is that correct Roady?]

The Lion dipped forward picking up the sphere of Ice that was protecting and holding Sven and swallowed it, to Keiths surprise. A display notted that the sphere was moved into the lion to be contained in a small chamber within it's torso just behind the cockpit. The chamber also had readings indicating Svens' over all health.

"Aaand we're down a pilot," grumbled Keith. "Perfect."

//Lions, fighting withdrawl!// anounced the Commander as the Blue hopped backwards spitting ice and rage at the sarounding Drule as Keith began to direct it back to the lake.

The lion showed that it was using a hard water cast on Sven to keep the arm from bleeding any further. He had lost a severe amount of blood, but it was possible to revive him. The readings also indicated that, with proper care, the wound could be maintained and Sven could be kept from death's door.

Outside, the Yellow lion tore at the emerging limb. Hunk felt the pressure of the claws and teeth as they weighted down with crushing force on the thick, armored limb. To his dismay, he could also feel as they slid across the thick plating covering the trunk like appendage!

Claws reached out from the towering case, pushing against the plates that were sliding away, forcing them back as it pulled its way out. These upper claws bore three long fingers, with massive talons on each, and were attached through a heavy chitinous plating to segmented, insect like appendages.

The plates of the casing groaned and pushed back, releasing more of the slimy, hot fluids out across the grounds!

A gout of red hot radiation washed out from where a glowing red set of eyespots glimmered in the darkness, blasting across the back of the Yellow Lion. Hunk felt the radiation blast as a streak of fire down his spine!

Meanwhile, Yuroth's ship had gained the air and it's trajectory seemed to indicate that it was withdrawing, while still laying down a heavy pounding of firepower against the Red and Green lions. The Red was surrounded in a sheild of bristling heat that was absorbing the bulk of the blasts, while the Green was using speed to dodge them. The ship was proving to be fairly formidable on it's own.

The Red and Green lions heard Keith's command and began to back away as well, moving into the trees while still dodging Yuroth's attacks.

Hunk barked, jerking in the command-pod from the feed-back synch-pain. Seeing he was doing no good, he leapt away from the unfolding behemoth, and rebounded after his landing, jumping again, further back. Just to buy some semblance of time, he had the Lion give a powerful swipe across the ground, unleashing a blast-wave of earth toward the creature before twisting about and dashing over to the others.

"Retreat to the castle, or just to better positions, Captain?" he asked urgently, summoning a giant wave of rock that arced up over Pidge and Lance's position to give them a little more support to retreat while fighting.

Hunk, Pidge, see if your lions can't find a location better suited for us to face this thing, a place where the lions elementyal natures will be of greater value. I'm getting Sven back to the Lake-bed so he can get healed. I can't risk him getting killed while we try to deal with this." Replied Keith.

Sven's unconcsious mind

*In Svens mind he could hear weapon discharges, explotions men screaming*
"WE'RE TAKEING FIRE!!" one voice shouted
"we're hit we're hit hull breach"
"THERES FIRE IN THE COCKPIT LUPOS SAVE US..." followed by the sound of a ship crashing

Each of these events Sven could see like he did when they happend, and could hear the screams like they fresh.
The ship Sven saw was a medic evac ship taking wounded Wolverines out of a combat zone, a round from an enermy anit-air battery hit it in the fule cells, the crew and the pasangers all incierated by the sylicon based fire, Sven knew the luckyones where dead befor the fire took hold.
Soon after the fire fight Svens squad found the crashed ship there was nothing left apart form the burnt Ident collars still to this day the stench of the burnt flesh and fur still haunt him

GM Note: just added the 'location' for clarity

The Tomb of Death

*Who are you?* The voices echoed as one, but no mouths moved in the ghostly gallery.

Allura stammered, her head felt like it was swimming through porridge, "I am Allura, last Princess of Altaire, Daughter of King Alfor!"

*Who are you!?* the volume swelled and swayed, sending shivers down Allura's spine.

"I... Last..."

The faces were changing, subtly, growing darker as she looked out at them.

*We are dead. Arus is dead. The kingdom is dead.*

"No..." Allura's voice was unsteady. She bit down hard on her tounge and tried again, "NO! Arus is NOT dead! I will..."

*Arus is dead, what can you do? You are nothing, you are a child of nothing.*

"I am the Princess of..."

*The dead!*

"NO! Our people live. Our home lives in us!"

*THEN WHAT WOULD YOU BE!?!?*

At that, the apparitions had changed into spectral horrors of death. They began to crowd toward Allura, clawing at her with talons that ripped her skin, like knives of ice tearing her clothing and hair!

She pushed through them, blindly swinging as she fought her way past the crowd of daemonic ghosts. Stumbling, flailing, she found her way free.

Behind her, the apparitions were coming for her. They're mouths open in roaring screams.

Desperate she yelled out, "FATHER?!"

Behind her the chorus roared, *YOU HAVE FAILED OUR WORLD! YOUR FATHER HAS FAILED US! HE IS NOT HERE TO LEAD! ONLY A CHILD!!*

Somewhere in the darkness of the tombs a pool of light could be seen. She stumbled toward it, the tears in her skin sending waves of icey nausea through her body. As she closed in on it, she could see something...

There was something there, something alive. The light was dim, and the sounds of the apparitions still echoed behind her, growing closer as she stepped into the pool of bluish light.

the air here was cold. Almost freezing, and her feet made a soft squishing noise as she neared the animal. It lay on its side, blue-gray fur heaving laboriously as it struggled to breath. Its arm was badly mangled and it's eyes were closed.

Allura looked down to find that she was standing in a pool of it's blood.

She knelt down, touching the flank of the creature. It's fine blue fur was matted, and it's skin was burning up. Around her, she heard the voices again, *ONLY A CHILD! WHAT WOULD YOU BE! WHO ARE YOU?*

The creature's head swung up, and for the first time she realized it was a cat. A huge cat. Its amber eyes opened as it gazed with a dazed sadness at her. Something in those eyes tore at Allura's soul. Suddenly, the weight of the death... the weight of the sadness of the souls that surrounded her seemed to permeate her very being. Tears rolled down her face, mixing with dust and blood, hers and what covered the lion. The cries of anger of the ghosts around her took on a new tone, a tone of torment, of loss, of horrors seen as the planet was mercilessly dominated by the Drule.

Her hands tightened in the large cats fur, the echoes of the ghosts voices pummelling her, demanding to know who she was, what she was...

They were growing closer, the circle of light around her was shrinking, fading. Their claws were reaching now for the large cat. Its eyes were filled with pain, with sadness, with worry. They seemed to even urge her to run, to save herself.

She pulled at the cat, trying to get it to stand, to run. Looking down, Allura saw the cat's paw was mangled, smashed and torn to shreds.

"No..." she whispered, "I won't leave you..."

The claws were coming in the small pool of light even as it flickered and died, leaving them both in darkness.

Allura's hands tightened in the cats fur again. Beneath her hands, the cold flesh rumbled, a sawing pur. The golden eyes looked at her calmly as the ghoul's hands began to tear at them both.

Something inside her broke, like the cracking of ice on a winter's pond. "NO! I WON'T LEAVE YOU!" Allura stood, pushing past the unseen claws that grabbed at her, "I WON'T LEAVE ANY OF YOU!"

On her feet she stood. No longer did the cold slashes on her skin bother her. The ice spread through her body and she took strenght from it, "I AM ALLURA, LAST PRINCESS OF ALTAIRE, DAUGHTER OF THE LAST KING, ALFOR, AND I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU! I WILL PROTECT YOU ALL!"

Her voice rang out in the sudden silence. The walls were lit faintly by flickering torchlight, and the air was dry, smelling slightly of spices.

Allura was leaning on something stone, and there was no one, or nothing, else to be seen amidst the various tombs around her.

She reached down, checking herself. No cuts, no scratches... nothing. Turning, she looked at the stone she was leaning against.

In the dim light she had to strain to read it's inscription, "Queen Averianna." she mumbled. It was her mother! Next to it was a tomb, opened and empty. It's inscription was already etched, but it had no date of death. "King Alfor." her mind lept to the body that was housed in a room in the castle above. This would be where she would inter it, next to the woman he loved, the mother that Allura had lost at such a young age.

*...can you hear me, Allura?!* Nani's voice echoed worriedly over her com. Some part of Allura was aware that the voice had been squawking through the radio for some time. She fumbled with the device, "I'm here Nani. Sorry. What's going on?"

*Sven's been critically wounded! Keith's brought him and the Blue Lion back to the Waters of Peace. And the Drule have set loose another abomination that's marching straight for us!*

Waters of Peace

The Lion had wasted no time returning to it's homebase. In fact, Keith wasn't sure if he could have stopped it had he wanted to!

As he jumped out of the cockpit, he saw the belly of the lion shift, plates sliding apart as a body was lowered out of it, carefully, as if by some type of tractor beam.

Sven's arm was encased in water, frozen. Beneath the clear cast the damage was apparent. It was mangled as badly as any Keith had ever seen, and blood colored the ice surrounding it, as if the instant freeze caught the horrible tide from his veins.

Carefully he hefted Sven's body and made his way to the platform with the medi-beds. Hopefully they would be enough.

Dropsight-A

The wave of dirt smashed against the beast with thunderous force, but it wasn't enough to slow it down. It pushed its way through the remaining casket and stepped out into the air of Arus with a tribbling high roar.

It resmbled nothing less than a titanic beetle that lumbered on four thick legs. It bore fore smaller 'arms' that ended in some wicked looking talons, and a head that jutted out from beneath the heavy ellipse of a shell had multiple eyes and mandibles glittering in the red wave of radiation.

As it stepped free, it's shell parted mometarily, and massive wings flittered in a display of cascading colors. The shell's surface would have been amazing, were it not attached to what must amount to a monster of death.

Lance's voice called across the comm, *C'mon bug boy!* as the red lion blasted at it with a jet of flame. The monster didn't even seem to care. It looked around briefly and began to lumber directly towards the castle.

***Waters of Peace***

Keith help Sven over to the clam like med-beds, glad that the numbing coldness of his hands was starting to fade. Piloting the Blue Lion had been difficult but certainly necesarry, no way could the Black have saved Svens' life. "Waters, get this thing running, Sven needs it."

//Pidge// commed the captain as he eased the canine down. //Scan that thing ad see if you can't come up with a weakness we can exploit like you did for the spider-creatures. Also try that napalm you came up with before, I have a feeling if you combine it with Lance fire the results might be a bit more then the sum of it's parts//

That was the keyu, of course, team work, there were three of them and one of it, if they could keep it off balance they could beat it...yeah, and he had a bridge in Arizona for sale.

"Waters, will the Blue Lion let me take him into battle again?" The machine was fighting him but Keoth didn' know if he could even reach allura to get the black key back so he needed to understand his options. "Allura..."

//Alura// Keith began trying to contact the radio-center. //We've got incoming, get everyone inside and into shelters//

//This isn't Allura// responded Nani coldly. //But I will pass along the warning none-the-less///

'Then where IS the princess...' wondered Keith alloud as he returned his attention to Water.
