Burn With Me!

It's either a wandering spirit or another entity. Unless there's a history of "activity" or a student/teacher recently died, I can't say the place itself is actually haunted. It'd be no different then the place I work at. I sense/see/hear stuff all the time, but it's always passing through. Nothing ever lingers.
Ley Lines. A place of ritual and magic. Not Magic of the D&D variety, but the real Magic. Spiritual, affecting the Energy Fields around living and inanimate objects, Runes and Symbols of Power. Real Magic isn't flashy, nor is it immediate. Places like Stonehenge were places where this sort of power was channeled into.
With the proliferation of Photoshop, I can honestly say I can't believe a single UFO photo anymore. Just too easy to fake.
Depends on which type. You have your Residual Spirits. They aren't actually spirits so much as they're memory echoes of people with strong personalities that have literally been absorbed into the walls and objects of a place. They can't be communicated with, nor are they actually aware of their surroundings. Spiritual VCR is what it amounts to, just looping through the same events over and over again. You have Intelligent Spirits, who are the mortally deceased who linger on in a spiritual state of energy. These range from friendly guardians to horrific poltergeists, depending on the disposition of the spirit. You can interact with them much in the same way you interact with normal people, though the spirits tend to try intimidation techniques mainly because they like the attention and feeling of awe. Then you have the Spiritual Entities. These are creatures who have never existed on the mortal plane. Guardian Spirits, Angels, Demons, Fairies, etc. These are creatures who serve some purpose in the natural order of the world and universe and typically do not design to interfere with mortals except in certain circumstances. For the most part, we're amusement to these creatures. For Residuals, I tend to ignore those (Or if it gets annoying, tear down and rebuild that portion. Cuts the "tape" if you get the meaning). Intelligent Spirits I handle like I would handle a normal person. Spiritual Entities I give a wide berth and massive amounts of respect. And try not to fall prey to any more Demonic wiles. A Night Alone in America's Most Haunted Bedroom...
Wow... This guys has been on Coast to Coast AM many times, just last Friday in fact, and I've always found him fascinating. This accounting of his trip is amazing. I haven't watched the video yet, but I will as soon as I'm not alone in the house .

Paranormal TV. Some of it's crap, but I liked this one thing on the Pennsylvania State Penitentiary that I watched (we get this on our On Demand thing) http://www.youtube.com/user/ParanormalTV |

Pennsylvania State Penitentiary is on my list of places to visit. Though I'd rather arrange for a independent walk through minus a tour, better opportunities that way. At the same time, if I ever did go to that place and arrange to be alone in the building, I'd require at least one Symbol of Power on my person (read: tattoo) for protection purposes. |

What kind of symbol? Like something as simple as a cross, or some thing more powerful? |

lol No, I was thinking more along the lines of runes of protection and a good ol' fashion Ward (Which you can get made at any Voodoo shop) or Totem (Which are rarer and more expensive). The Christian Cross and other Monotheistic Holy Symbols are actually decent deterrents on their own, but there are documented accounts of Priests and Holy Men being accosted by spiritual entities as they attempt to bless a location. They're not 100% - nothing ever is. But given the amount of pain and suffering that occurred at that prison, it'd probably be a good idea to come armed with something a little more potent then a simple crucifix. |

you remind me of Benny, the servant in The Mummy... when he first met Imhotep, he had a dozen protection symbols around his neck that he held up one at a time, trying to ward off Imhotep! ![]() |

Better to be at the right hand of the devil then in his path. As long as I serve him, I am immune. No, I don't think I want my end to come being devoured by scarabs. |

nope, doesn't sound appealing. ![]() i DO understand what you're saying about having protection with you, btw. It's just that you have to do some work empowering those symbols, and only choose the ones that are extremely meaningful to you. Dunno that grabbing a cross or crucifix is going to do you any good if you're not extraordinarily spiritual. |

Actually, it's more dependent on the type of spirit then a person's personal conviction. When I first moved into my house, there was a time when I was getting very bad vibes from the attic, kitchen, and doorway into my bedroom. It was getting intolerable, but one day I remembered that as a house warming gift from a family member, I'd received a stain glass panel with the inlay of a cross - and I'd set it down on the stairs up to the attic. I moved that panel, and the bad vibes immediately ceased. There was no longer a barrier in the spirit's way (One of them inhabits the attic), so it stopped making such a fuss and I haven't had any problems since. So yeah, an atheist can grab a cross and have a moderately successful chance of warding off a spirit, but those of malicious intent (or even Spiritual Entities that were never human to begin with) require more specialized, ancient, and yes even arcane symbols of protection. Though Voodoo charms are probably the best "mainstream" deterrents. Voodoo deals almost exclusively with spirituality sans religion and have a good grasp on the nature and intricacies of the spirit world. Edited by GC Rust, October 19, 2008, 10:52 am.

You think a cross STOPPED a ghost from moving around the house? And it wasn't a bad/evil sort of creature that was stopped by a cross? If you're not evil, why would a cross stop you? How's that work?i thought that Voodoo and Santeria were often practiced by the same person? |

Not a clue. All I know is the minute I put that stained glass panel elsewhere, the bad vibes stopped. And outside the occasional footsteps in the attic/stomping up and down the attic, I've had no trouble with the entity since. So I'm content with leaving the dead lie in this case. And to be perfectly honest, I don't think it was a case of the cross preventing the entity from moving around the house - given it was located on the steps up towards the attic, my guess is it was preventing the entity from RETURNING to the attic. Can't say I blame it for being agitated in that regard. Edited by GC Rust, October 20, 2008, 12:15 am.

The cross was also considered a ghost deterrant pre-Christianity. i believe in Celtic lands it was thought that crossroads were a place where a spirit could be trapped, and therefore two crossed lines also allowed one to pin or trap an entity in place. |

that's an interesting concept. i'll have to remember that one, next time i start writing... i more think of a crossroads as a place to make a major decision in your point, with no going back. |

oh boy do I have something to tell ya someone at work showed a picture she had taken on a night out with friends on her camra phone, and in the centerwas a ghostly image of a young girl about 8 or 9 sitting on the floor. And that is the same story in 1915 a pilot was dertermined to be in a group photo, but he was killed the day befor the photo was taken, but after it was devolped they found his ghostly face in the place he would of stood if had lived that day, its a pretty famous one |
