Tonight was the two-part premiere of the 8-part miniseries Agent Carter, focusing on Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) of the Strategic Scientific Reserve (the precursor to S.H.I.E.L.D.) in the days after WW II (and the loss of Captain America somewhere in the north Atlantic). Howard Stark's been accused of selling weapons to "enemy states" and has skipped out on the Congressional hearings, so the SSR is after him. But he's no traitor: someone broke into his secure vault and stole lots of his tech, and he wants Carter to find out who and clear his name, all under the SSR's nose (who still treat her like a secretary). She's assisted by Howard's butler, Edin Jarvis (James D'Arcy). Carter finds one of the weapons, a formula for an explosive that's now more than just a formula, and learn of a new threat on the rise, Leviathan. It was really good! Carter's constantly surrounded by 1940s-era casual misogyny -- including a popular radio program adaptation of the exploits of Steve Rogers, where "Betty Carver" is a damsel in distress -- but she uses their underestimation of her to her advantage. That, and some cool spy gear. Lots of cameos and easter eggs, too -- we see a young Anton Vanko (Ivan's father) working at Stark Industries, and one of Carter's neighbors is a secretary at Kurtzberg & Holliway (a reference to Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg & Holliway, the law firm Jennifer Walters works at). |

I missed the whole thing. Somehow, I don't even remember adverts for it. Did it continue to thrill or go downhill? |

I, and the folks I know who watch it, have been thoroughly enjoying it. Atwell's great as Carter, D'Arcy's fun as Jarvis, and they've worked great together. |

Are they thinking this might turn into a movie or weekly series? Or is this miniseries really the end of it? |

AFAIK, this miniseries is all that's planned, but if the ratings are good enough they might do another since there's literally decades worth of stuff they can work with -- the Agent Carter short (included with the Iron Man 3 bluray), which takes place after* this miniseries, is where Carter is called in co-found S.H.I.E.L.D., and we know Carter marries some guy before Rogers is thawed/revived, and passes away in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So they could do all manner of 1960s Cold War spy stuff. Unfortunately, reports are that the ratings haven't been good, so this may be all we get (aside from the occasional flashback in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or other things) :( * oddly, the pilot ep of this miniseries showed clips from that short, leading some to think the short took place before the miniseries, but that would not work given what we've seen of the rest of the show. The higher-ups have confirmed that the short occurs after this miniseries. |

I wonder who dropped the ball and included clips of something that occurred AFTER the miniseries. There's no chance they can pull a few twists and turns and put things in line according to the miniseries? |

My only guess as to why they included clips from the shot in the pilot ep was b/c they needed more shots of her doing action-y things, and that was the most ready source (they'd already used most all the ones from Captain America: The First Avenger). I'm wondering if they'll include clips from the short in the final ep of the miniseries, as that would be a nice way to tie it together. |
