Marvel's been killing it in the movies, while DC's lagged far behind (in both quantity and quality). But while Marvel's starting to get in the tv and Netflix markets, DC's making greater strides there. ARROW starts its third season this fall, and has been doing quite well. The first season started a bit slow, but the second season quickly ramped up, adding tons of comics references. This week FLASH starts, which is a direct spinoff of ARROW and promises even more comic-y action, and crossovers. GOTHAM started a few weeks ago. It's a story about Gotham city immediately after Thomas & Martha Wayne are murdered, long before Bruce becomes Batman. I'm not sure how I feel about this series: the acting is solid, but most of the people who'll become Batman's Rogues are adults now, so they'llbe 10-15 years older than Bruce when he finally becomes Batman. (And if they are still activecriminals by the time Bruce becomes Batman, it means Gotham's cops are spectacularly ineffective.). No word on if there'll be crossovers with ARROW or FLASH. CONSTANTINE starts later this month, and looks to be much closer to the comics than the Keanu Reeves movie was (though I did enjoy that movie as a standalone thing). It looks interesting, and will probably draw fans from the same well as SUPERNATURAL, but has gotten some pre-emptive flak for straightwashing Constantine (in the comics he's bi, at ComiCon the producers said he'd be straight and then ignored any further discussion of it). |

THE FLASH was quite good! And there was a hint we'll get Gorilla Grodd! |

I've been enjoying Gotham though I do hope they down play the villain cameo in coming eps. I'm OK with some of Bats villains being significantly older than him. A lot of them were well established before he put on the cowl but certainly most of them should be in his age group. |

I have definitely enjoyed Robin Lord Taylor's portrayal as a pre-Penguin Oswald Cobblepot. Also, I'm not sure if CONSTANTINE will be crossing over with any of these shows. I'm guessing not, since the HELLBLAZER comic's mostly been a Vertigo comic and Vertigo is mostly separate from the DCU... but CONSTANTINE will have Det. Jim Corrigan and GOTHAM has Det. Crispus Allen, who've both been hosts to The Spectre. |
