It's a shame the Ant-Man movie is being released in Phase 3 of the MCU, and not Phase IV :5raz

I was really looking forward to the Ant-Man movie, but lately I've not been.

Henry Pym is one of my favorite superheroes. He's often been described as "a mad scientist trying to be a hero," combining an impressive degree of scientific and technical skill (he's an expert in biochemistry, computer programming, cybernetics, entomology, quantum physics, and robotics) with an almost childlike whimsy (what does he do with all this know-how? He makes a helmet that let him talk with ants!), and strives to be a hero despite being plagued by depression and a crushing inferiority complex (which I can certainly identify with).
But he's not the main hero here. In the movie he (portrayed by Michael Douglas) discovered the size-changing Pym Particles in the 1960s (he'll even be getting some scenes with Howard Stark), but never used them himself. Instead, he'll be mentor to Scott Lang (portrayed by Paul Rudd), the second Ant-Man (who, in both the comics and movies, stole Pym's tech but later became a true hero). Which, okay, Lang's a cool character; certainly better than that creep O'Grady, the third Ant-Man.

Then I'd heard Evangeline Lilly was going to be in the film. I figured she was going to be Janet van Dyne, the Wasp, a favorite supheroines, a founding member of the (comics) Avengers and a very well-loved figure; Lilly's 35 years younger than Douglas so it'd be odd to show her as his wife, but it would certainly not be unheard of for Hollywood. But, no, she's portraying Hope van Dyne, "Hank Pym's daughter," and I hear that Janet had been killed, and that her death is what caused Pym to retire from the public eye. (There is a Hope Pym in the comics, daughter of Hank & Janet. She was a supervillain in the MC2 universe.) She'll probably end up being the love interest for Rudd's Scott Lang.

And not only did they pass up a chance to add a well-loved superheroine to the MCU, they also passed up a chance to add another female supevillain. (We've only had two so far, Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy and Ellen Brandt in Iron Man 3.) The villain for the movie is Darren Cross, portrayed by Corey Stoll. Cross is a comics character, and was the first supervillain Scott Lang faced... but he was only in two issues before dying and hasn't returned since. In the movie he'll also take the name Yellowjacket, after creating a more militarized version of Pym's/Lang's Ant-Man armor, but Yellowjacket is not a name Cross ever used. But Yellowjacket is a name used by Rita DeMara, a female (and Latina) small time crook-turned-supervillain once she stole one of Pym's size-changing costumes.

I'm a white guy, and even I'm tired of seeing nothing but white guys on the screen and in the comics.

UPCOMING PHASE 3 MCU FILMS
2016-05-06: CAPTAIN AMERICA 3: CIVIL WAR (originallyt leaked as CA3: SERPENT SOCIETY, but that was a fakeout)
2016-11-04: DOCTOR STRANGE
2017-05-05: GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2
2017-07-28: THOR 3: RAGNAROK
2017-11-03: BLACK PANTHER (Chadwick Boseman, star of 42: The Jackie Robinson Story, has already been cast as Black Panther!)
2018-05-??: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, PART 1
2018-07-06: CAPTAIN MARVEL (Carol Danvers, not Mar-Vell!)
2018-11-02: INHUMANS
2019-05-??: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, PART 2

Latest rumor is that Balthazar Cobblepot Benedict Cumberbatch is in talk to portray Dr. Stephen Strange.

I'm really hoping CA3:CIVIL WAR is just re-using the name of a storyline (like Avengers: Age of Ultron), because adapting Marvel's "Civil War" storyline from the comics to the MCU would be impossible (and stupid).

I was hoping for another Hulk movie, but these are all great!

I love the new list. So sorry to hear about Antman and down right pissed that they're still so terrified of leading female heroines. Jeez when will they realize we've evolved to the point where we can accept and enjoy stories focused on powerful women.

That's good news! I like him in the recent Sherlock Holmes show. How do you feel about him taking on the role of Dr. Strange?

I rather dislike him (he's racist and classist, and I honestly do not see the aesthetic/physical appeal of him), and would have preferred anyone else. Or, at most, him do VA work; use is Smaug voice for The Dread Dormammu.

Ideally, I'd use a time machine (or necromancy) to bring back Vincent Price and have him portray Strange. Oded Fehr would also be a great choice, especially since he's already portrayed one top-tier sorcerer (Doctor Fate in Justice League and Justice League Unlimited), and he can easily pull off the look.

Holy frack: David Tennant cast as The Purple Man in the Netflix Jessica Jones series!

Quote:

We're about to see a lot of David Tennant fans get put through the freaking ringer, because the Purple Man is a vile, disgusting villain who does absolutely unspeakable things to Jessica Jones.

Spoiler talk ahead. Besides having purple skin, the Purple Man can also control mind, which means he can make heroes do absolutely degrading, awful, and terrible things. He has emotional control, telepathy, pheromones control, hypnosis — he can do almost everything and anything, and he often does. He is the worst. Basically, get ready to really hate David Tennant.

If he has all those powers, and people seem defenseless from that description, then how can he be defeated?

His powers are pheromone based (though even before getting them he was a skilled manipulator), so being in a sealed enviro suit/power armor with an internal air supply should prevent you from breathing them in or getting them on your skin, or sending in beings that don't breath & don't have skin to absorb the pheromones (like androids and robots). And some people having a strong enough will to overcome his control -- famously, Doctor Doom, who in the Emperor Doom storyline stuck Killgrave into a device that amped up his powers so it affected everyone on Earth but ceded control to Doom, was still able to resist, and Dearedevil's been able to resist.

I'm looking forward to Jessica Jones and I love the actress who'll be playing her too but I'm not looking forward to the Purple Man being in this series

Everything about that character just makes me feel disgusted...he's worse than Dr Light :(
