Two FR novels, Venom in her Veins and the Rose of Sarifal, came out a few months ago. The first novel, Venom in her Veins, by Tim Pratt, is quite a good read. The main character is yuan-ti adopted by a prominent loving human family at birth. Something rotten, though, lies in the heart of the family's prosperity. Sooner rather than later the family will be rended because of this. Zaltys, the yuan-ti, must also make a choice. Why read? It has the fight scenes and spell scenes for which FR has fame. There is fair character development. It leaves itself open to a sequel. Drawbacks? There is no Elminster, Drizzt, Szass Tam, Jarlaxle, or Erevis Cale; not even a cameo. I'll do a thumbnail on Rose of Sarifal tomorrow. |

i've heard of the Venom book, it sounded like a good one. You liked it? It has lots of spell scenes? I need to learn more of those, so cool... I'll look for it. Who is Erevis Cale? I know all the others. |

I did like Venom in her Veins. There are the spell and fight scenes. The Rose of Sarifal is quite good as well. The adventuring protagonists seem to be RPG's version of The Apple Dumpling Gang without comedy. Erevis Cale is a Rogue/Assassin/Steward for a very wealthy merchant house in Sembia. It is written by Richard Lee Byers. |

Ah, that explains it. I haven't read anything by Byers yet. I'm going through all of Ed Greenwood's novels right now. Nice to see you here, Alice. Thanks for the book reviews! |
