right now, it's 'The Last World War' by Dayton Ward... "It started small, with an unprepared band of Marine reservists encountering deadly extraterrestrial visitors in the backwoods of Missouri...." (edit - dammit...stupid fingers...but, since I'm here any way: A Travelers Aid Society advisory has been issued for travel into and through the Feenamint Cluster. The Treasure Ship 'Dinkydau' has been reported missing. There are also signs of Didi Mau insurgents operating in the area. Caution is advised.) Edited by SonofSargas, August 25, 2011, 11:46 pm.

soooo many good books! But remember to tell us WHY you like them, so we get a bit of the flavor of each, huh? I liked the opening line of The Last World War, tell me more. Okay, Sargas, that last is written by someone who went through the Viet Nam era... 'dinkydau' means crazy; didi mau means 'go fast/leave fast'. Is that also from The Last World War? |

"It started small, with an unprepared band of Marine reservists encountering deadly extraterrestrial visitors in the backwoods of Missouri...." it's from the blurb on the back cover. the first line is: Why the hell did I volunteer for this? the Travelers Aid Society advisory is mine... |

As for what i'm reading... I just started the third Elminster book, The Temptation of Elminster. Very disjointed, every chapter is a new place with new people and he miraculously Saves The Day or at least saves his hide... His temptation? He's a Chosen of Mystra the goddess of magic itself, and he's been instructed to use magic as LITTLE as possible. Ummmm... okay. ![]() It's still written as if he has a ghost writer, compared to the later books. But there must be a new editor, because this time no one is reining him in from hopscotching ideas with nothing to connect them except he's wandering the world. Oh, well. I still want to know El's history, and the book shows some good magic scenes here and there (more nudity of course), and some good terminology to add to my Faerun vocabulary! |
