The first episode of George RR Martin's television adaptation of Game of Thrones premiered on April 17. I am a big fan of this series. I viewed it with my sister and brother-in-law. The former liked Harry Potter in the fantasy genre. The latter liked LOTR in both book and film formats. I was prepared to love it. Sis and Bro were going to give it a chance. That being said....

I enjoyed seeing the characters being brought to the screen. Sean Bean brought Ned Stark to life. In my mind only Sean Bean could have been Ned Stark.

As GC Rust had mentioned; Jack Gleeson sold the role of Prince Joffrey in the space of a few seconds screen time. Harry Lloyd was creepily good as Prince Viserys Targaryan. He would degrade his only surviving family member; all for the Iron Throne. The actor made you believe it.

Peter Dinklage stayed in character as Tyrion Lannister. One of my favorite scenes in the book between Tyrion and Jon Snow was abbreviated so that a non reader may not see the point of it.

Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo was striking and true to the character. To a non fan, though, he may seem like a Genghis Khan copy. The Dothraki speaking their language was a distraction. It sounded too much like Klingon.

There is LOTS of violence and nudity. In the first 15 minutes there are 2 be-headings and dismemberments. I have no objection to nudity, but, one of the last scenes of episode 1 was degrading. I know that medieval noble marriages were often that way. One of my fellow viewers had said after all was said and done, "So does everyone do it horsey fashion in Game of Thrones?" I had the same question.

I think fans will be satisfied with it. Those unfamiliar with it, I hope, will be patient with it.

BTW, Robert Ostlere, as Waymar Royce, would make a great Artemis Entreri if the Drizzt series was ever made a television program. Ostlere's part was small but, he did well in what I read was very short notice.

Did anyone else see the premiere? I'd love to read your opinions.
