Not sure if anyone here follows the animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars or not, however they have been up to some intresting stuff lately. A few weeks ago, they aired an episode titled Overlords. In that episode Shmi Skywalker Lars, appears to Anakin in a vision, and they hired Pernilla August to reprise her role. Also, in that same episode, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn appears in force ghost form to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Liam Neeson reprised his role for that episode. I find that awesome, cause its not like Liam is hurting for jobs. However, in my email today, I got my SW newlsletter, the Homing Beacon. Really big news coming up for the season finale on April 1st. The legendary fan favorite character, Chewbacca the Wookie will be making an appearace. They even hired Peter Mayhew, the orginal 7' 3" actor who portrayed the wookie in all 4 films he appears in, to come out and do some acting so they could make his appearance closer to the real deal. He even helps do some of the growls just to make it better. They've got a preview up, and I watched it and I have to admit, its Chewbacca. They did good. http://www.starwars.com/video/view/0000/0025 In case it doesn't pick the right clip, its bonus preview, episode #3.22 |

I've always liked the original SW movies and even read some novels. Sorry to say, I haven't kept up with the latest efforts. I'm in a galaxy of long ago and far away. What is the premise of The Clone Wars? It's impressive that they've reunited many of the famous originals. |

The Clone Wars are the wars before the birth of the Skywalker twins, they lead up to the formation of the Empire, the destruction of the Jedi and Anakin's fall to the dark side. I'm more of an old trilogy fan myself, though some of the stories done in the animated CW are worth being told. Some have dealt with the political side of war, while others have shown the impact of war on those who attempt to be neutral and civilians. They even did an episode in season two that was a homage to Seven Samurai. All of this takes place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, in the new movie trilogy. |

I don't watch the show consistently, but ultimately everything I see of it really does seem well done and interesting. I know they've done a few episodes with Boba Fett, and if I recall they've introduced Tarkin (Peter Cushing from the first movie), which is just plain neat. At the same time, Chewie's inclusion in the Clone Wars - even in Revenge of the Sith - just felt forced to me. I get being a galaxy spanning conflict, those who were alive during it were going to be participants, but it begs the question of just how old Chewie is. Besides, Chewbacca is Han's wingman. Anything else just flat out doesn't feel right, and Han would be far too young to appear in the Clone Wars. The one episode I didn't care for was the one I saw a few weeks ago, involving Anakin temporarily going over to the Dark Side after being granted a vision of what would transpire. It was just so contrived and stupid, all bent solely on the rule of cool (So we get the Smoke Vader Helmet plus the Vader Theme from the original trilogy) that it just felt completely out of place. Anakin sees he's going to succumb to the Dark Side, then goes ahead and does it anyway? I was sort of hoping they'd take this series as an opportunity to explore the reasons Anakin actually did go to the Dark Side. Not just reinforce the whole "Because He's Supposed To" angle. But I'm ranting. Overall, the series quality is quite good though I do wonder how Asoka's going to end the series. She's nowhere to be seen in Revenge of the Sith, after all. |

Chewie is 200 years old, at the time of the events in A New Hope. Had to be doing something prior to meeting up with Han. Though you are correct, that recent episode of which you speak was bad. It builds up to be good, until Anakin turns. That whole 3 part arc was designed by Lucas himself so meh. One of the things that irritated me though, was them impling that Darth Maul lives in one of the earlier episodes. I don't see any good out of reviving him. |

Well, they need Cannon Fodder for the series if it keeps going. There's only so many times they can foil Grevious, Dooku, and Ventress before things get stale. And yeah, that episode was just painful. It was really good up to the "Mind Wipe, Go Go Status Quo!" resolution. |
