There's a reason the Karate Kid is the number 1 movie in America, and it's because it's freakin' good!

Now I'm old enough t have seen the original and that may give me nostalgia goggles but I like to think I'm relatively unbiased. The story is essentially the same as the original with just enough updating to keep it contemporary and interesting.

I can absolutely recommend this movie to ANYONE. The acting is very good, Jaden Smith is absolutely Wills son, possesing a measure of his fathers talents and even manerisms. The kid is adorable, heck most of the kids in the movie are. Really, see this before it leaves theatres, I give it a rating of $9

It is kinda funny though, that they named the movie "Karate Kid" when he's being taught Kung Fu. I mean, there's a difference! But I guess most people don't care :p

Dunno. We had a TV show called Kung Fu some years back, it definitely looked different from karate. This Karate Kid is not showing some version of Okinowan karate? I haven't seen it yet, but i'll catch it soon.

the over-inspired story-teller
Karate "empty hand" martial arts are distinctly different from Chinese martial arts. I believe Chinese martial arts can be *generalized* as 'wu shu', but I may not have the correct usage of that term. There are numerous chinese styles. I believe the plot device here is that the boy's lessons in karate were too limited, and with Jackie Chan as a real sifu, he can learn a new level of martial arts (it just happens to be chinese)
