FYI, Holy's been helping me investigate a problem with my Toshiba laptop i use for work. His expertise has really come in handy!




Holy, i called Toshiba and told them what you said, about "bad block on \device\harddisk\0" "cannot load locally stored profile" "warnings under the Event Viewer" and "WINDOWS REPORTS PHYSICAL DEVICE ERRORS".

i am SO GLAD you spent time investigating my computer complaint with me so i knew what i was talking about, because i got all kinds of runarounds. The tech person wanted me to create a new profile, leave the old one alone, and ignore everything else, then she said it was an XP problem and i should reinstall XP and wipe out the harddrive, on and on... but she couldn't get around "You DO understand what a physical device error is, correct? It's a bad sector or block in a FAILING hard drive?". That one got her. She finally said it's still under warranty and she'd send me a shipping box, 7-10 days to repair or replace the harddrive, and they would 'reimage' it (put Windows, the speakers, and the burner back, etc etc).


Now, i paid for an extended warranty when i bought this, but getting them to ACT on it was a pain in the butt. i give you full credit for arming me with enough information to get them to own up to the contract. YAY!!!


...now i hope they replace the harddrive and give me a good computer again...
