KarToon Rally Assessment and Review Report After careful consideration, it can be seen that the project of KarToon Rally needs to be restructured and revised. Before this report, many policies were being regulated without any actual rules to back them up. So in hopes that with restructuring, this project can get back on track and finish in a timely manor. Community: After the initial wave of workers and blenderers, the community has been shrinking. Either sick of the project or finding bigger and better projects. Most of that will be fixed in restructuring hopefully. Changes: New members will be required to take and pass a test Members are required to create an information profile Entitling their jobs and contact information Must have Skype Group activities to get everybody to know each other better Every week, each member has to fill out a weekly report Members: Members go hand in hand with the community. With the current lack of members, the current members will be given more duties; however, all work should be done as a team. In the past, it has been seen where one person would totally do one track or one kart, now we need to encourage working as a team. Changes: Each department will see what they need to do From there they will work on one task at a time Finishing 1 track is better than 7 incomplete tracks Forum/Website: Currently the forum is run by Digit with moderation powers given to Yodaman. The forum is perfect in giving everybody open access to the project. Recommendations: Make the project forum so it is only viewable to members Create a library for easy access to all the game files The KarToon Rally Weblog has recently seen a major decline in visitors to the site. It currently has only major updates to the game and not much more. Recommendations: Include more updates, (screenshots and videos) Interviews with members from the game Include game related tutorials or guides Karts: Originally there was only going to be 8 karts and now there are many more. For the game there is only going to be 8. At the moment there are many different styles of karts, each with the name of the user. Submitted Karts: Passed New Standards: Rewii – A nice tank design, needs better textures though BlenderGuy – Perfect example of a kart, few minor mesh problems Lazye - Nice design, tire size may cause issues with BGE. Digit Jet Bike – Nice model, check overall size though Jake (Hover Kart) – Very nice design and simple Jake (Tank Trouble – Nice, but too similar to Rewii’s Jake (Bunny) Interesting concept, watch out for PETA Failed New Standards: KingPayne – A nice vehicle, but lacks a character Yodaman – Design could be sleeker, currently too blobish Digit Jet Car – Nice design, but needs a character Mikedafool – Good concept, but overall too blocky Elginhero – Buggy is in 3D Max, needs to be in Blender 3D Neon – Character is nice, but vehicle is too blocky and undetailed Eoraine – The kart is messy and kart and character need textures Jake (RedRC) – Cool kart, but needs character Status Unknown: Twist3dfear – Great concept, but not sure how 1 wheel works in BGE Changes: Pick 8 of the above to develop into final karts Karts must have the python properties applied before submission Karts must be visibly pleasing to where you would want to play as that character Recommendations: Change name of karts/driver to more generic names Make standard karts across the board with the only difference being the driver and color of kart Tracks: Currently the tracks are not too much of a problem. We are aiming to have 8 tracks just like having the 8 karts. Submitted Tracks: Passed New Standards: Lost Kingdom – Great, could probably be more toonish though Coconut Island – Great, could probably be more toonish though Jungle Track – Great, could probably be more toonish though Vulture Valley – Great, maybe some more scenery Under the Woods – Great, maybe some more scenery Alpine Heights – Great, maybe some more scenery Space Race – Great, maybe some more scenery and fix textures Gold River – Great Failed New Standards: Village – Great idea, but too empty and rather blah Computer – Great idea, but UV needs to be fixed, track completed Fantasy Track – Just needs texturing Status Unknown: Green Hills – Nice, but wouldn’t this be Copyright Infringement? Changes: Pick 8 of the above and refine them Get themed music for each track Objects and Scenery: Over the life of the project, this group has created very little and is useless. Items: Checkpoint marker (done) Power-Up box Oil Slick (Causes karts to spin out) Glue (Causes karts to stick to ground) Spike Strip -> Tacks (Causes karts to spin out) Power Boost (Speed temporarily increases) Kart Shrinker (Kart size and speed decreases) Kart Grower (Kart size and speed increases) Bubble Shield (Protection from all other power-ups) Missile (Attacks front car, causing it to spin out) Changes: Power-Ups are the 8 listed above The scenery part of the department is abolished Python: There is a great lack of communication in the scripting department. It is very important that the scripters communicate with each other so that scripts can work together and are better developed. Scripts are needed for the following. Scripts/Logic: Scripts for each of the items Game types/modes Save/Load Menus AI HUD/Status Animation: Due to the lack of this department doing anything, it is now abolished. Miscellaneous: Now that the major categories have been covered, there are still the tiny details that need to be attended to. Music: Game theme song needs to be picked Individual track songs need to be picked Advertising: Tech video needs to be made Getting the games name out into the communities Changes: Music will be picked by track teams while working on the track Files Pertaining to Above Topics: Sample New Member Test: 1. How long have you used Blender 3D? 2. Do you have any experience in BGE? 3. Post a render of you ‘best’ work. 4. What are your strongest qualities? 5. What are your weakest qualities? 6. What will you do to overcome those weaknesses? I have given Yoda access to the admin control panel, he can now add and remove groups and sections etc. I am going to be quite busy and Yoda seems to know the project more than me. I will return next month, Good luck. Digit |
