Fafnir Rakesh

Shinigami Template

General
Name: Fafnir Rakesh
Nickname:
Age: 99
Gender: Male
Division: 6
Rank: Captain

Description
Height: 6”4
Weight: 90kg
Hair: shortish brown hair that sweeps to one side in a quasi spiked fashion
Eyes: Left eye is brown, right eye is blue
Appearance: Fafnir is quite tall at 6”4 but never slouches, making him look confident. Despite having different colored eyes, 90% of people never pick up on it on their first meeting. He has fair, unblemished skin and although he usually appears docile and nonthreatening.

Clothing: Much to the distaste of his fellow Captains and horror of his subordinates, Fafnir rarely, if ever, is seen wearing the uniform of his station. Instead, he is almost always seen in a sleeveless black outfit that is red on the underside and resembles Ichigo’s bankai costume. It has been describes by some as being: “Part muscle shirt, part dress, all awesome!” [Talon King] Over the top of this, he also tends to wear a baby shi- I mean beige/ light khaki colored cloak of tattered condition. His shoes, in going with the emerging color theme, they are black and bear a vague resemblance to slippers. He wears his Zanpakuto at his left hip. A Unique note on his Zanpakuto is that besides it’s black sheath, it’s blade is also pitch black with a red edge on the blade even when in sealed state. This has been surmised to be a reflection of his inner soul by those in the 12th division who have done tests on it.

Personal

Personality:
On the surface, Fafnir is a very relaxed individual who is often accused of being habitually lazy. Whilst this isn’t an unjustified accusation, Fafnir simply doesn’t do anything that he doesn’t see a good reason behind. Beneath this docile demeanor, when the chips are down Fafnir is someone who can be relied upon in a pinch. Fafnir has a chip on his shoulder when it comes to nobility- namely those who he competed with during his earlier years and were handed everything that he worked diligently for on a silver platter. As a result, he is compassionate towards anyone- shinigami or human- that he sees as being in the same position he once was. Whilst Fafnir holds no extra special animosity towards Hollow kind (does not always include Arrancar as he believes they can be reasoned with on occasion), he believes that when encountered it is for the best that they are destroyed and purified as even if they don’t appear to be hurting anyone at that moment in time, killing it now could save untold lives in the future. Although slow to provoke and generally easy going even in battle (where he often fails to takes opponents seriously ), if he is sufficiently provoked, he becomes cold and unforgiving- where his only motive is to punish his opponent and end the fight as quickly and decisively as possible.

Goals: To prove himself worthy of the sacrifices that were made for him to be where he is today

Fears: Failing to live up to his own expectations

History:
Fafnir began in the slums of southern Rukongai, a place where there is never any guarantee of a roof over ones head or even food in their bellies on a day by day basis. The only glimpse of salvation was the new Soul Society initiative in which they sent scouts into Rukongai in search of those with the raw talent required to become a potential Shinigami. Of course, with Rukongai being as rife with corruption as it was, subjects were rarely chosen based solely on potential and this glimmer was rapidly fading. 10 years old and parent-less, Fafnir's dream was to be chosen to become a shinigami so that he could one day return and crush the corruption he now found himself drowning in. By his side was his closest childhood companion- Aya. They supported each other through thick and thin and one day, the impossible happened. One of them was chosen to become a Shinigami... Except it was not Fafnir that was chosen, it was Aya. Fafnir's disappointment was crushing. Not only had he missed out, but his best and only friend would be gone.

Despairing, Fafnir was in the depths of self pity when he was approached by the same man who had chosen Aya to be taken into the Shinigami Academy. He explained that special circumstances had arisen and he was now eligible to enroll in the academy as well and they were to leave immediately. Overjoyed that he would be joining his friend int he academy, Fafnir readily went with the man to the carriage that would be taking all of the candidates to the academy. Upon arrival however, he quickly found Aya absent from the rest of the chosen candidates.

As he was herded into the carriage despite his protests, the man who had retrieved him leaned in close and whispered in his ear: "You have one hell of a friend kid." In that instant, as the carriage doors closed he glimpsed an all too familiar face through the crowd. Face puffy from crying recently, it was Aya and then the carriage began to move and she was swallowed up by the masses. She had given up her spot for him, her only chance at freedom and a real life... Fafnir cried himself to sleep that night. Disgusted with himself for his selfishness, he swore to himself that he carry both of their dreams so her sacrifice would not be in vain...

He entered the academy on a scholarship- the very bottom of the pecking order since he was one of the few who hadn't bought their position. This ostracized him from the very beginning, resulting in his first years in the academy to be lonely and unrelenting. However his resolve never wavered and he progressed rapidly despite his status as an outcast and a loser in the eyes of the others in his class. Fafnir was no prodigy to begin with- he picked up concepts at an average pace and didn't stand out at all whilst other students had tutors whom their families paid for. To compensate for this, Fafnir had extra lessons of his own, in which he trained through the night in secret every night of the week without fail. Because of this, Fafnir slowly began to improve at a rate that made him stand out.

This did not earn him respect however, as instead he was now actively insulted and ridiculed by his fellows. However Fafnir bore their collective grudge and continued to rise in prominence. Years passed and Fafnir found himself disadvantaged by the fact that his tuition program did not extend to kido training. To make up for this, he redoubled his training in order for his physical attributes to make up for his lack of 'magic' so to speak. He was ridiculed at first, his peers laughing at him spending day after day performing menial training exercises. However when it came time to spar, they were left aghast as Fafnir ran circles around them, making their fumbling attempts at kido look infantile at best.

Finally he began to attain the recognition he had been deprived of for the past decade. It was around this time that he graduated from the academy and assigned to the 11th division based on his lack of kido abilities and above average melee fighting skills. Whilst he worked hard to do his duty, he quickly realized that the eleventh division was not for him and he was somewhat of an outsider within the squad. After another decade of duty, Fafnir achieved his shikai. Due to it being of a 'kido based' nature, he was swiftly removed from the eleventh division and assigned to the 6th division as 3rd seat. It was only now that Fafnir found himself in an environment that suited him. He flourished within the 6th division- forming strong bonds with his squad mates and swiftly attaining the rank of Vice captain at the almost unprecedented age of only 63.

Over the next 37 years, Fafnir's only focus was to achieve bankai. He trained harder than he had ever before in his life but this time, nobody mocked his passion or his commitment. He reached the stage where he could compete with his captain in speed and strength after 17 years of this regime. After another 10 he found that he could even match his spiritual pressure. Another decade saw him finally break through this final barrier and achieve bankai at the unprecedented age of 99. he was heralded as a prodigy and for the first time in his life he felt true pride in his achievement and that he had finally achieved what Aya had sacrificed her chance at a better life for.

6 months later, the 6th division captain retired and Fafnir was elected in his place as one of the youngest captains in Soul Societies history, if not the youngest outright.
