Seven hundred years ago, Shiloh had considered herself a fairly skilled shepherd, capable of steering even the least well-behaved lambs out of harm's way. In the centuries since, though, she'd lacked a flock to watch over and her skills had deteriorated somewhat. To be fair, though, sheep were slow, docile creatures content to shuffle around and baa obliviously as long as they had grass to graze upon. Quim, on the other hand, was liable to find trouble as soon as Shiloh so much as turned her back. In the last week alone he'd stumbled upon two groups of hollows, and now—

—some archaic tournament designed to produce a champion who would repel the annual nuisance known as Solis. Shiloh realized that she was at fault for leading the arrancar to this area of the world. She knew that each summer, the various Nightlands organization sent delegates to this strange, brutish tournament, but she’d never paid much attention because the idea of Solis posing a legitimate threat was laughable. A villain who appeared routinely every year to entertain some bloodthirsty mercenaries was better suited to a cartoon show than real life, and Shiloh suspected that the entire affair was simply some political game played by the factions.

”Quim...”

Well, now they were here, and by some twisted turn of fate, they’d both found themselves registered to fight. Shiloh was somewhat glad that she’d ended up in the same group as her arrancar charge, actually, because while she was sure that he possessed some combat capabilities—she was curious to see them, actually—she would be able to intervene if he found himself in any actual danger. She did not really care much about Solis, but she wasn’t only here to babysit Quim either. This would be a good opportunity to ensure that he knew how to protect himself.

The time had come for the tournament to commence, Sven had heard about it before when he was younger from his mentor, but he never bothered to actually participate in it. His mentor did once, and nearly one before getting defeated. Though him and him and his mentor never talked much about his lost, Sven could feel as though his mentor harbored some sort of regret and i'll passion over his loss in the tournament.

Though it happened within the life span of a bount like Sven, he could wait for it to come around again when he was stronger. Though this time Sven would definitely participate. Not that he really wanted to, his mentor pretty much forced him too. A month before the tournament his mentor unexpectedly visited him while he was in Germany.

Sven hadn't seen his mentor in around 8 years so for him to show up so randomly meant it was something of important. Though he was happy to see his mentor it was a serious atmosphere. His mentor only said a few words which where "Participate in the Solis tournament." Sven couldn't help but think that it was important. After all those were the only words his mentor said before vanishing, leaving him with nothing but a note that explained how to enter the tournament and where to go.

Even though he only said a few words, he had always been like that. Blunt and too the point, Sven had been with him since he was a kid and to him he was more then a mentor he was like a father and often liked to treat him as such. Sven only wished that he had gotten to spend more time with him before he left. His hope now was that if he could win in the tournament his mentor would come back to congratulate him, and in doing that they could spend sometime together. Though he was a man now, he still sometime had the mind set of a child longing for his father. As he set foot on the battlefield Sven only said one word "Father."

"Yes?"

Was the only word to pass through Cecilio's lips as he looked around the grassy plain, his right hand busy fiddling around with the necklace underneath his robe. His hood would shuffle from time to time, almost threatening to flip off of his head entirely. He looked up to Shiloh after getting his fill of the boring surrounding scenery, he honestly knew very little about what was going on.

Shiloh was not quite sure what she had expected—maybe for Quim to switch into some sort of fighting mindset and leap into battle, as silly as the idea seemed in retrospect. Mentally chiding herself for even considering such an absurd thought, the woman reevaluated her knowledge of arrancars and decided that perhaps Quim was oblivious to their current situation, and that he might awaken his instincts once a threat presented itself. At least, that was what Shiloh hoped, because if all Quim was going to do was loaf around like his usual self, this was going to be an unpleasant situation.

”Never mind,” she said when he answered her, not wanting to distract him. ”And pay attention.”

Sighing, the silver-haired girl considered her options. She wasn’t one to encourage violence, so she refrained from egging Quim on, but she did want him to snap him out of his lackadaisical reverie so that he could defend himself. Crossing her arms, Shiloh looked over at the other man who’d been assigned to this combat round. He seemed young—and alive—and at least he did not look like a deranged killer, like some of the other combatants she’d seen earlier—so they were lucky in that aspect.

Shiloh considered explaining the situation, but claiming responsibility for Quim would be both awkward and embarrassing. She tried to imagine what she would think if she’d entered such a tournament seriously, only to be told that her opponent was an obvious child. She would feel insulted, she thought. Well...what to do, then? Maybe Quim needed some kind of stimulus.

”Quim,” she said again, her tone urgent. ”There’s going to be a beam from above you in a few seconds. You had better move out of the way.”

As she spoke, the shepherdess focused, and a white light began to form in the air above her companion’s head. If he remained still, she would have to divert the attack harmlessly upward, but she rather hoped that the imminent threat would galvanize him to action.

Sven could only watch from a distance as another man appeared on the battlefield. Though from the looks of the situation it seemed as though the two knew each other. He looked closer being nearly 15 meters away only to see that they where having a light conversation. Then the girl said something, and Sven couldn't quite make out what she was saying but before he knew it a beam of light would come crashing down towards the man which resembled that of Kidou.

Luckily Kidou was something Sven had an advantage over, and if the girl became an issue he could negate it. It was rather strange though, the two seemed as if they knew each other rather... Fondly but the attack said otherwise. Sven would only watch to see how the man would re-act and if needed would re-act as well. Sven being a gentlemen and strong in his beliefs he didn't feel as though he should intervene unless targeted or if necessary, he'd rather let those two fight it out. With hopes that the man would become the victor for the simple fact that he did not like to fight women.

He believed that women where creatures of beauty and needed to be treated with higher respect. Unless they attacked first in which case he would honor them as a warrior and not a women and proceed to fighting back. Without holding back. As for now Sven simply watched the events unfold.

"Like this?"

Were the only words the young arrancar spoke as he stepped to the side a few times in a quick almost dance-like motion. Once he was done he decided to tilt his head to the side, this time succeeding in removing the hood that had been obstructing most of his face. His hair was set free and bounced with the resilient youth within the strands, a stark contrast to the grayed and old mask that covered his eyes.

Well, she’d produced a movement out of Quim, but otherwise her feeble attempt had been fairly unsuccessful. Shiloh looked for the watchers she’d been told would spectate the battle, wondering if they would stop them if she and Quim simply walked away. Maybe they had to at least finish one round. Looking at the other man, Shiloh shrugged in a half-apologetic manner and slid Septimus off of her back, gripping the staff in her hand.

”Stay out of the way, Quim,” she said.

She turned toward the other combatant.

”Let’s get this over with, then.”

Sven would watch as the two still seemed pretty friendly with each other. It was obvious that Sven was on the bad end of things. Just his luck, the two people he ended up having to fight just so happened to be friends. Not to mention the one that seemed to initiate things was the female. The person of which he least wanted to fight. On top of that she seemed to use kidou. Sven sighed as the attack the girl launched headed towards him from her staff. It looked like her kidou was going to be a pain in the ass.

Sven wanted to see what she was made out of her, thus her put up his guard and simply took the attack. It wasn't as strong as he though it would be but it still did a bit of damage to him. Sighing, he held up his chain to summon Stören. "Zeige Dich, Stören!" He'd speak lightly. His chain would begin to glow a flaming orange, with two purple dots in it, before bursting into an image of what seemed to be a large demonic like bull. Eventually it would take a more solid shape revealing Sven's doll. The demon bull, Stören.

"No~"

Replied the arrancar as he gaily skipped up to stand side by side with the Shepherd, a smile able to grace his face while his companion held a much more serious expression. He was puzzled by what she meant when she had finished talking but the fact she had decided to draw her cane attracted his attention and it was duly noted by the young spirit. His eyes would soon wander off to another voice he had just barely heard and he was more than a little surprised when he saw a strangely shaped bull where there was once nothing. In his mind two things clicked, he wanted to know what exactly was before him and he wanted to know what Shiloh wanted to finish. He decided to cover both bases with a simple, "What do you mean and is that?"

He had the sense that there was going to be a fight, but the youth was still unsure if it was okay for him to participate since he wasn't certain. Cecilio decided that if he didn't go for a heavy blow he might be able to help Shiloh while also leaving room for him to talk out of any heavy punishment. Without a word the youthful arrancar launched himself along the battlefield, rapidly approaching the man who stood closest to the weird bull, entering melee range in short moments before he threw a light punch that felt strangely sharp and barely connected before Ceci backed off and ended up behind Sven.
