Glitch in the System
|
Cassius passed out from the onslaught of attacks, a veiled spectator was upon him instantly and vanished suddenly. The gladiator woke up in a hospital bed a few hours later with only one thing on his mind. "I lost..." |

A grin began to appear on the Wicker Man's face. The mortal before him was moving sluggishly, slowly, as though attempting to move through heavy waters. Hanged Man himself was not any faster, but to the eyes of his victim, he was undoubtedly moving at breakneck speeds. His limbs almost glowering with power, he felt impervious, untouchable. Immovable. Stretching out to the roots that was feeding the raven with his mind, he moved up his fist clenched, willing them once more. As they shivered alive, they buried their roots deeper into his body, and began to show purpose, as well as pain. Each resembling a hand, a finger, a mouth warped in agony, Hanged Man knew well the outcome this would have. Burrowing his extended will into the body of Bomani, he had shown nothing if only this: The living, if plant or human, held no grip over the dead. "...And I watered it with Tears. Night and morning with my Fears." Gripping his weapon, likely for the last time, he pivoted it off the ground and struck the human cleanly. The human feebly raised his arms to defend, but it was to little avail; his speed was not enough, even for a cripple such as Hanged Man. Burrowing what he believed to be the last of the thorns in the man's body, he stepped back to admire his work. This man would become hateful. Nourish and grow from his hatred, from the pain and defeat. Hanged Man grinned wickedly, looking over the plains, now littered with the frozen tree-corpses beginning to grow from his power. The mortal was frozen, held up by wood or his own will, Hanged Man did not know, but he was not far from death. Stretching out his arms wide towards the burning sun, he knew he he had prevailed once more. "In the morning, glad to see. My foe outstretch'd beneath the tree." Turn

"A warrior..." Bomani slowly brought out the words that willed him upright throughout this whole torturous ordeal. The man in front of him had outsmarted him, a feat that not many people have done before, but why? Why was he able to do the things he did? How did this crippled man beat Bomani's own plants? It did not make sense and these thorns. These poisonous thorns were starting to drain the speed of his reactions, everything felt like it was moving faster than it should be and there in front of him stood the monster tree. It quivered on the windless plains and Bomani fell to his knees. He did not realize that the ground he loved felt very cold around his knees. He did not realize that the man in front of him grew to be a hundred feet taller than he originally was. What he realized was that for the first time in his life, he failed. He failed to instill his will onto the enemy and as a result he has lost. There was not much left he can do. Bomani's hand reached out to the quivering tree, not in forgiveness, but in defiance. He was not going to sit back and just lose like this. He will fight back against his oppressor and he will learn everything there is to learn, but for today defiance was enough. "I'll see you soon, Plant Man." Bomani gurgled out as he fell into an exhaustive slumber. ----------------------- Hanged Man wins! |
