7/13/2013: Expanding Upon Combat
Original Regulus isn’t the type to dish out a beating and take just as much as one. Instead, as somewhat evident in his lean and meager figure, he is about hit and run tactics. Running circles around his opponent in great bursts of speed, dodging in even the most unimaginable of ways despite the concept of gravity and inflicting rapid blows to the opponent’s person, only to rinse and repeat the cycle as he scurries out of harm’s way without a scratch. Although it can be a waning process on his energy reserves, his unexpectedly significant endurance, as well as his tendency to strike to draw copious amounts of blood from the opponent with scratching and tearing motions from his well-trained hands manages to even out such an animated fighting style as he wears down his opponent just as much.
While Regulus’ focus is on melee combat, suffering considerably in reiatsu management-wise and supply-wise, he has some forms of ranged repertoire to rely upon in his doll, Valbatos, who can fly into the distance to attack as necessary while Regulus comes up from the rear fast and hard. Valbatos will perform such duties by soaring directly at the target head-on to close the distance and attacking with whatever means capable or he will take up a ranged combative role by dispersing parts of his body into the form of small bats that fly and crash into the opponent, which change their shapes into sizable spear-like fangs or claws to impale the target.
However, while Valbatos can certainly chip away at the opponent’s life in his own right, his main objective in combat is to support Regulus, being the main heavy hitter. Similarly employing hit and run tactics when he isn’t chasing down the target, Valbatos flies about the opponent haphazardly, occasionally splitting into many small bats to dodge, distract and deter his opponent while Regulus brings the pain. In fact, Valbatos assists in these maneuvers by dispatching and affixing parts of his body, such as his claws or teeth, onto Regulus’ hands (usually) to better aid him in puncturing and piercing into the flesh of the opponent. In doing so, not only does it enhance Regulus’ fighting style of wearing and tearing down the opponent through substantial blood loss, but it also helps to regenerate any wounds having been inflicted upon Valbatos in the meantime, whether from an attack directly aimed at him or from intermittently defending Regulus from certain strikes without Valbatos having to personally draw blood himself.
Revised While he was never the violent type during his times as a “normal” human, Regulus is an aggressor in the purest sense of the world. Ruthless, passionate and wild are a few words that describe his usual demeanor when he engages in battle, intent on giving it his all to dwindle his opponent down while taking advantage of his startling speed. In addition, he relies upon Valbatos to fend off most attacks, having a much more fortified body than himself. The doll also assists his creator in a number of other ways outside of defending and blocking for Regulus through his transformation abilities, such as attacking in his own way, hindering the opponent or even augmenting Regulus’ abilities.
Regulus
Claw-to-Hand Combatant: Regulus relies primarily upon his thoroughly trained hands for fighting. Though they would appear feeble and weak, he has honed them extraordinary to tear and cut away at the opponent’s flesh as though they were actual claws, with his lengthy, rarely cut fingernails only further emphasizing such. With the constant physical laborious work he performed in his “past life”, he has more strength than most would expect and employs it through rapid strikes, swipes, slashes and the like to the opponent’s person, whether as single blows, a barrage of assaults or blind attacks directed at everything in sight. Using his mixture of body coordination and vast agility to maneuver around the target easily, he is able to beat them down into nothingness without ever having been hit the entire fight.
Torturer: An extension of his skill with his hands, Regulus uses them to impose painful and heinous conditions upon his opponents that aim to make them suffer slowly as he continues to pounce upon them. In particular, bleeding them dry is often his go to solution due to his preference towards blood and gore. However, he does plague their bodies in other ways, such as weakening and impairing them physically and even spiritually by shredding away at vital spots on the body. It isn’t uncommon for those struck in these areas to experience their strength leaving them or discovering their reflexes have slowed or anything else of the sort. He’ll do what he feels is necessary to make sure the target is a withered mess when he’s done with them.
Extreme Speed and Agility: First and foremost, Regulus takes considerable pride in his speed, having always been gifted with a natural pair of quick feet. Long, slender and powerful, his legs carry him great distances in half the time it would take others, if not less so. While he isn’t one for hits, he rarely has to, typically dodging the opponent’s attempts in even the most unbelievable of ways. Running circles around people, immediately changing directions in mid high-speed dash, leaping and bounding extraordinarily enough to virtually defy gravity itself and twisting and turning his body in the most unimaginable ways to escape unscathed are various methods noticed when observing the speedster in combat, with most being forced to face him finding it rare if not impossible to ever land a hit on him.
Expert Blood Wielder: Though his main course of action in combat is to overwhelm his opponent with continuous rending strikes, Regulus has realized it takes more than just attacking relentlessly to get the job done. Loving the feeling of pain and misery when he’s battered and wounded as a result of battle, he has learned to exploit his injuries, even going so far as to harm himself when the need arises. He can use his own blood, often by sinking his “claws” into his skin, to enhance them and even “extend” the reach of his claws in the form of ranged, bloody attacks. In addition, he also uses his wounded form to give himself a number of bolstering effects, typically aggravating his wounds until they bleed, the pain sending him into maddening, bloodthirsty rages with few being able to withstand his enhanced wrath. Often times, the more damage he takes on, the stronger and longer lasting these boosts are, trading power for life. “Stimulating” the blood directly is also possible to some extent.
Enhanced Survivability: Regulus, while possessing a meager physique, offsets this with his grand supply of stamina. Although most attacks are certain to hurt if they make contact, it still takes quite a few hits to put him down completely. And even then, he doesn’t simply take beatings lightly. On the off chance that his superior speed and Valbatos’ defenses aren’t enough to avoid a direct hit, Regulus certainly makes opponents regret having injured him. Even with subpar fortitude, he’ll almost always strike back in some way or another whether he was hit from up close or from a distance, ailing them and make it that much easier for him to survive the following attack or set up his following onslaughts to be that much more overwhelming.
Valbatos
Transformation: The medium upon which he uses most of his other skills, Valbatos has an exceptionally mutable body, with his body mass determining the amount and size of the things he transforms to, though after mastery of this ability, almost anything will be possible. This ability grants him the opportunity to adapt to almost any situation. A common facet is transforming himself into multiple small versions of himself, which serves to either avoid attacks or set himself up to get in unexpected positions for surprise attacks. It also functions as one of his many forms of ranged attacks, further transforming the flying miniature bats into his own fangs and claws to bombard opponents, though they aren’t limited to just this. Not just small forms, Valbatos can also change his shape into gigantic versions of his own appendages and teeth to batter, throttle and bite through targets accordingly. With such a broad ability such as transformation, there are a vast multitude of possibilities at Valbatos’ disposal in which he can exercise its potential.
Extreme Durability: Unexpectedly, Valbatos’ body is remarkably fortified. He can take some of the toughest blows, only having to fly head on into attacks to be absorbed mostly harmlessly into his body or to knock them aside to change their trajectory. Even his stamina reserves are noteworthy, being the functioning tank in the relationship between himself and Regulus. In fact, he is the shield that moves in to intercept harm coming Regulus’ way, allowing him to focus solely on attacking and bringing the pain.
Flight: Being much more beneficial than it appears, Valbatos’ ability to fly is a great asset in combat. It offers him a great range of maneuverability around the opponent, popping up at the most unsuspecting angles and more. It also improves the chances of him avoiding blows, not being entirely limited by gravity to escape out of even the most far-reaching attacks. Because he is airborne, he is essentially unaffected by both advantages and disadvantages found in the form of terrain, which he soars above most of the time without much trouble. Tying into the aforementioned, he is also usually unaffected by most techniques that are limited to the ground.
Darkness Affinity: Because he is a bat, a creature of the night, Valbatos naturally leans to the element of darkness. Through his transformations, he is capable of conjuring up constructs of darkness with his body as the catalyst. A fan of spikes and skewers and all things pointly, he uses these, as well as other creations, to impale and spear and overall harm the target violently. Turning parts of his body into nothing but veils of darkness is also a habit of his. Frequently used as a distraction to cloud a target’s vision or to render him immune to being damaged – except by light, of course. With true mastery, he is will even be able to blanket entire fields in darkness and more after he is able to create more than what his original mass would allow. Fashioning black holes, fields of spiked pillars and gargantuan masses of darkness are an inevitable possibility when he holds control over the black element. He is in no way limited to just this, manipulating darkness in many imaginable ways, especially to hamper his opponents more so than using them in the form of attacks.
Reinforcement: Working as a great means of support, Valbatos is able to utilize his transformations to convert parts of his body or the entirety of it into “armor,” which is given to Regulus to wear. This armor is not generally meant for mitigate damage taken, but most often augments Regulus’ ability to pierce and puncture easier than usual into the flesh of their victims in the form of gauntlet-like claws or similar pieces. Even when not opting for improved offense though, Valbatos can still grant his owner pieces to protect parts of his body. After attaining considerable enough skill, he’ll even be able to use the entirety of his body to transform into full blown cloaks, suits, and similar attires capable of both offense and defense simultaneously, with Valbatos directly assisting Regulus as he is worn instead of simply giving him armor to supplement his fighting style.
Blood Regeneration: Although a minor, secondary ability, Valbatos makes sufficient use of his ability to siphon blood out of targets and into himself. Typically done through his own attacks that penetrate the body, he sucks out portions of people’s blood in order to bring his body back to a state of good health. Even just sucking or licking blood through his mouth is enough to mend his wounds. However, he isn’t limited to just physically being next to a supply of blood to rejuvenate himself. He is able to draw blood seeping out of wounds and floating through the air into himself, which is enough to even revive him from a near dead, unconscious state, making him a very tough customer to beat.
