Sapphire's feet made a small pitter patter on the ground as she walked, her head bobbling left and right to a tune she couldn't seem to get out of her head. One of her friends from the 9th Division quarters had returned from patrol with an arsenal of various human goods, and one of them seemed to be some sort of song-recording device that allowed for playback. It had played a catchy tune, and she just couldn't seem to get it out of her head. She couldn't remember the lyrics for the life of her, but she could recall the tune. Tum tum tum ta tumtumtumta..

Sapphire's hips swayed to the beat as she continued to walk. The day was bright and oh, it was going to be great! She had finally gotten permission to leave Seireitei. After leaving some not-so-subtle hints for her vice-captain, Shuhei Hisagi, she had been given the task of patrolling a portion of Karakura. It seemed that the shinigami initially sent for the job had been..unavailable, whatever that meant. Since receiving the task she had been plotting what she would actually do. One thing she knew for sure: There was going to be a LOT of shopping to do. And she was thrilled with the prospect.

Sapphire's attention flicked back on as she looked the Senkaimon Gate up and down. She was ready to go when she heard a familliar, singsong voice.

"Kukuku~ Karakura Town? that sounds fun~ perhaps you will learn something new there."

Sapphire patted the sheath of her Zanpakuto lightly, inducing a near giggle from Sairen no Harou.

"You think so? I'd be happy if I just learned how to make correct change. These humans and their currency.." She sighed. The hell butterfly floated by her idly as the gate slowly opened, allowing Sapphire entrance.

.....

Sapphire stepped down from the gate, having reached the end. She scanned the town before her for any nearby threats, and when she was satisfied, she puffed out her chest in mock triumph. "Hmph! No evil shall set foot in this town, so long as Kumi is here!" She chuckled to herself , made sure her sword was secure on her hip, and began to walk eastward. She looked like a tourist, and that wouldn't be far from the truth. If anything, this was a sightseeing opportunity for her. She had an awful habit of feeling too secure in the Real World, often forgetting the threats that lie just behind the corner. She was headed for the famous Urahara shop, wherein she left her gigai in the care of the proprietor..

The constant heavy beat continued to pulse from the speakers as the boys took turns as the center of attention, their baggy clothes casually scraping along the ground and their conditioning allowing them feats of unseen balance. The small semicircle of exhibition dancing they continued to carry on as finally it got to the end of the line and started again, however this time around there was one more in the group. His long shaggy hair hung down as the music pounded inside of his rib cage as like a heavy heart beat and his cane tapped on the ground but yet they seemed to ignore his presence. Even those that had begun to gather were ignorant of the ghost as he simply stood in place, silently taking in the stimulus.

The out of breath pants, the heavy scent of sweat and after shave wafting off them as took a momentary pause before the group of six joined together to show off on the side walk. But for the guest that had arrived his destination laid somewhere else as he began to travel through the streets and off of the bridge that had been home to such things. His face was clean shaven except for a lift sprinkling of black hair on his chin, and his eyes were welded closed with a white mask covering the eye socket entirely and the eyebrows. The tip of his cane tapped the ground and even as he walked people seemed to ignore his presence, some walking close enough to feel the uneasy pressure of being too close to something dangerous.

Was he dangerous, that was debatable and depended on one’s point of view. For the Shinigami, for the Gods of Death that ruled over the after life, his kind was the reason they existed. The eternal war between Yin and Yang that waged on for as long as humans have died and needed a place to rest in peace. For the Quincy, it was a matter of purging the corrupt, they saw his kind as nothing more than a stain of flesh unworthy of Redemption. And for humans.. A sign of what was awaiting them in death if they’re souls were not safely purified.

But for now, he was harmless, for the time being he was peaceful and yet in the sea of blackness that was the world the flickering flames continued to burn. And a new one had arrived, causing the human hollow to stop and tip his head slightly. Its strong.. But not too strong. Shin’s body had now turned completely and was beginning the interception course to follow after the newcomer but as he started to get closer to the source it began to walk. However even from this distance his senses were beginning to work, both nostrils flared as he took a deep inhale of air. Smell had been slightly deadened by the transformation but he could still pick up the traces that he needed.

Steel, heavy spirit particles- A Shinigami. And yet there was another hint there, faint from this distance and muffled under the other aromas that carried in the breeze, the scent of Lavenders. Ah.. The girl from the field His pinkish red lips curled in a pulled grin to one side as he kept his distance simply staying a good distance behind the female Death God. The last time she saw me.. I was still hidden behind the lifeless mask but no longer. Now that is cast away and I have a face that sets me apart from the rest of the Hollows. He remained quiet in his predator like stalking of his Prey, the only sound aside from his boots hitting the pavement was the rhythmic tapping of the tip of the cane onto the ground.

Noise...so much noise. For a moment Sapphire had forgotten the sounds of bikes whizzing by, kids laughing and playing music, and the idle chatter of the older folk who have nothing better to do with their day than to gossip. Sapphire was absolutely delighted with the world around her. Her eyes shifted back and forth, bemusedly watching as a yellow butterfly made its daring escape from the clutches of a two year old child as she wept for its return. She could smell fresh cut grass and oh, that breeze felt so good. While she enjoyed living in Seireitei, it just felt so...constricted. The human world felt light, free, and easygoing. It was her way, her style, and her opportunity to escape. Sapphire took a deep breath, lungs filling with fresh air as she walked silently. She was enjoying this, and one could tell. Her gray eyes followed everything with interest and amusement, like a distant third party. She was one who could observe, and not be observe. That's what she thought, however, as the figure behind her quietly made his way toward her.

His reiatsu would of been strong enough to detect by now, had she not been so immersed in her surroundings. Sapphire was never good at detecting spiritual pressure in the first place, but accompanied with her astute focus (or lack thereof), she could become hopeless. As she softly ran her hand across a wall's surface, all that seemed to exist to her at that moment were the feeling of concrete underneath her fingertips and the sunlight that warmed her to the core. She had begun to hum now, that song in her head refusing to leave until it left her lips. Sapphire was never without a tune, and whenever she walked, there was always a song. Sometimes, she blamed Sairen no Harou for this, as her Zanpakuto loved to be melodic.

Soon she turned her attention to other sounds, and she noticed that a few were rather persistent. She could hear a tapping sound of some sort, but couldn't place it. The other was the sound of dirt crunching underneath the weight of boots, one foot after the other. She had assumed it was just another human, but as she walked, it hadn't let up. She was just about to shrug it off when she past a little boutique on the corner, its signs colorful and dazzling, beckoning her to come in for their 50% off sale. Sapphire peered into the window display, a small "Ooouu" slipping out as she gazed on an array of colorful clothing, tacky jewelry and various other knicknacks. "Aren't these just the cutest?! I have to remember this place..as soon as I get the chance, I'll check it out." As she smiled, her eye caught a reflection on the window display's surface. Her smile faded as she peered at what appeared to the the figure of a man shuffling towards her. As her senses tuned into his presence, she finally felt him.

His reiatsu was dark, ominous, hollow-like. It was thick, and she knew he was strong. She clutched the sheath of her sword as she slowly turned around, her body in profile as her head turned to face him. She looked him up and down, and was thoroughly confused. He felt hollow but....he didn't look hollow. He looked more... human than anything, an attractive human at that, but the blank mask that attached itself to his eyes like a parasite told another story. It reminded her of something...but she couldn't place it. Her breathing hitched in fear, becoming slightly irregular despite all her attempts to hide it. Was he a threat? She couldn't tell _what_ he was.

After a few moments of silence, Sapphire finally spoke up, her voice soft and quivering.

"Who...Who are you?"

When had the last time the two had met, could it have been Soul Society? His head tipped slightly, faintly the noise of the boys continuing their dance continued and the whiz of passing air as people flew past the pair of unseen visitors. The sun beat down on the Arrancar, a sensitive made all the more pleasant by his skin being able to feel the heat and be warmed by it, and with the fragrances that were traveling through the air it all came together in a serene peace. A calm serenity like echoed like a flat plane of glass, void of impurities that would cause a disturbance.

Than the humming began, a simple tune that the Shinigami had began to play over her lips and from her throat causing Shin’s feet to stop momentarily. It was obvious that she unaware of him, or at least she was playing it well as her hand stretched out and began to run along the wall next to her. Sapphire... forehead wrinkled slightly as if he was concentrating for a moment I‘m sure that was her name. She used the water technique and was fighting with that one male. Yusuke. Shin’s mouth began to shift as his tongue worked along the roof, rubbing along the ridges inside as he had come to miss the weight of the mirror that had resided there.

The girl had stopped walking and was talking aloud to herself, talking about something that was lost on the blind Hollow as he continued his approach. He had made no real attempt at hiding his presence and yet he could nearly taste it in the air, smell it as his arrival finally occurred to Sapphire. Her breathing was becoming heavy, irregular as he stopped his attempts at getting closer when she finally spoke to him. "Who...Who are you?", the words themselves seemed to bring a smirk to his face as he was no longer referred to simply as hollow.

He knew the name wouldn’t recall any memories for the girl, her hand gripping the sheath of her zanpakuto, the water controlling one as opposed to the saw like one that her friend used against him. Finally his mouth cracked open, his lips were slightly dry and before he spoke he ran the tip of his tongue along them to wet it. Every second for him probably felt like an Eternity for the girl, the thoughts of if he would attack her somehow, if he would end up as simply a trick. Should she flee, call for back up.

His voice came out, much different than it had been the last time she heard it, it was deeper now and sounded darker. Before he had to carefully move his mouth to keep the mirror in place but now as he spoke he had the full freedom of movement of his vocal cords, his tongue, his mouth. ”You already know who I am.. Sapphire.” And as the first sentence left the Arrancar’s mouth he had already produced the static like noise, the hollow answer to the Shinigami flash step as he closed the distance.

His hand was placed onto the pommel of her soul slayer, the entire palm covering it to prevent its drawing as his face hovered inches from hers. The empty face that had stared at her without fear the first time was instead textured and had a skin tone to it, but his breath was still there. The same, familiar words he had used to warn her with the first time, in that field, slipped out of his mouth again as he used it to introduce himself. ”You're all going to die if you stay..”, his lips curled into a grin as he started to pull his head back and tipped it lightly as he stood up straight, literally he towered over the girl by eight inches.

”Do you remember me.. now?”

There was a rustling of fabric as Sapphire clenched the robe at her waist with her free hand, rubbing it against her thumb to soothe her anxiety. As her eyes looked the man up and down, the world around her had become silent. She could no longer hear the music, the birds, the chatter. From the corner of her eye, she could see movement..interaction, but she could hear nothing; at the least, her mind did not register it. The world became irrelevant as a smirk made its way onto the face before her, the blank slate across his eyes revealing nothing of his thoughts or intentions. It was empty. Finally, the man with the mask spoke up as the whistle of a zephyr flew by them both.

”You already know who I am.. Sapphire.”

Her heart skipped a beat as the air around him filled with static, and he vanished. For half a second her eyes darted back and forth in anticipation, her hand clenching the hilt of her sword as she readied to draw, but hesitated. Then he appeared.

Sapphire froze as she felt his hot breath against her skin, her breath hitching a second time as she half expected a hand to her throat. Sapphire's hand quivered as his quickly found its place on the pommel of Sairen no Harou, preventing her from drawing.

”You're all going to die if you stay......" He spoke, as if reiterating a past statement.

Sapphire looked up as his shadow overcame her, her eyes scanning the now human face before her as a fleeting thought of recognition hit her. The blank mask that covered his eyes...the threatening words of warning........the mirror, a field trip.......Her eyes widened in surprise as she silently stared at him, just as a dark grin unfurled on the Arrancar's face.

"Do you remember me now?"

"You....You! You're the one of the fields, the one at the hospital...but you were a hollow, a hollow with a mirror........but you look....different......" Her words came out confused, stitched together, like they weren't a single cohesive thought. "Am I...am I wrong?"

She finally snapped back to reality as the thought of getting hurt finally entered her mind, and without another moment's notice she made her move. There was a flurry of purple hair as she dipped down, in hopes of allowing her sword to escape his grasp. With a kick her knees pushed up, allowing her to jump backwards. The world seemed to slow as she felt the air rustle her robes and help her glide to the floor on her feet, but the asphalt was unforgiving; she staggered a bit before becoming steady.

"Why are you here?" She asked firmly, but somewhat confused. "Why are you threatening me? As a shinigami..." She swallowed briefly before continuing. "....I know that my life is at risk at all times. You don't need to warn me." Her face scrunched slightly in an attempt to look strong and brave, but her facade soon diminished under the realization that her fingers were now clutching at thin air. In a moment of panic she looked to see what had happened. Her Zanpakuto was missing. In shock her eyes traced the sheath at her side to the dangling silhouette of a sword beneath the grip of Shin's palm.

"....oohh..........darnit........." a soft, feminine groan escaped her lips as she contemplated the situation.

Shin’s head tipped at the sudden rush of her words, the fact that his true identity dawned on her caused the girl’s body to react in every imaginable way. Her breathing was accelerated but at the same time it was caught in her throat, her mind was a rush of different emotions and above all of them was fear. Fear would lead to an aggressive stance as the Arrancar’s hand curled around the pommel of the soul slayer, he could feel it rejecting him. Pushing away with its energy and almost trying to will itself into the air to stab him through but it remained stationary in the scabbard.

The world seemed to have played out like an omen, her attempts at forming a coherent sentence failed miserably as she got her point across, "You....You! You're the one of the fields, the one at the hospital...but you were a hollow, a hollow with a mirror........but you look....different......Am I...am I wrong?" however before he could answer she had already began to make her move. With a flutter of cloth, of hair she began to leap backwards much like she did when they first engaged in battle. She had leapt into the air that time as well, her sword in hand and brought it down to slice him through.

This time however was different, her body had begun to retreat from him instead of advancing yet she left something very important in her attempt at retreating. Something that did not truly dawn on the Shinigami until several moments after her small speech about being endanger constantly. The attempt at forcing strength behind her words however were soon dimished into nothing more than a mumble as the sword rose up in Shin’s hand. The blade was facing him as he held the cane in the other before turning it so that the sides were facing the two spirits.

He remained quiet as if he too was contemplating the situation, the advantages were obviously in his favor as he had disarmed the Shinigami of her most prized weapon aside from their spells. The grin crossed over his face as he could hear the approach of a vehicle, the metal body and heavy engine chugging along as he started to make the motion of tossing the Katana at the truck. Shin’s head had turned as the truck began to pass as he followed the sound of it, the sword in his hand starting to leave as he appeared to be tossing it toward the bed but instead of clattering against metal it struck the ground tip first.

The soul cutter bounced once and clattered on the sidewalk between Sapphire’s legs as he turned back toward her, the grin now gone. Instead was a serious face, both hands ontop of the sight cane he used as it was positioned in front of him. The evil aura, the killing intent he had was starting to fade away in the sun light as he was warmed up ”You‘re right.. The last time you saw me I was hidden behind a mask. I had no face, trapped within the darkness of my form. But that’s changed.. I‘m no longer bound by that restriction” His hand rose up and gently ran along the remains of his mask before turning toward what Sapphire had been viewing prior to seeing him.

”And who said anything about someone threatening you.. I tried to warn you back then. But you didn‘t listen. Instead you attacked and that caused the other hollows to attack..” His head turned back to her, the cane lifting off the end ground as he pointed it toward her and tried to tap her stomach with it ”..and in the end I had to deal with you the hard way.. But.. What are you doing here? Can‘t it not be said that neither of us belong here in the world of the living yet.. We‘re both here. By order or by choice?”

The word choice brought about an increase in the tone of his voice, as if he was grinning as he said it before he began to walk toward her ”I‘m unarmed and you‘ve got your weapon.. But if you want to attack me still then know that you‘re stomach may be sore again..”

There was silence as Sapphire watched him, her gaze intent and focused. She clenched her hands into fists, cursing herself underneath her breath for her own lack of foresight. Isn't this the first thing they teach you in the Academy? she thought. Never let anything come between you and your sword.... The Arrancar now had in his hands her most precious treasure, her most powerful ally. In his hands her soul lay, and it wasn't too happy to be there.

Unbeknownst to Shin, the soul slayer was absolutely furious; her scream sliced through Sapphire's mind and caused her to flinch. Among the silence around them Sapphire could only hear the wail of her Zanpakuto, the Banshee that screamed for release. The usually articulate and melodic voice of Sairen no Harou became nothing more than a cry of pain. Sapphire had become so synchronized with her Zanpakuto that this sudden rage had began to give her shivers, and she quickly wiped the tears that had begun to form and fall from her soft cheek Damn it, Sairen no Harou......Shush, it's okay....she had begun to mumble.

As the wail continued to assault her senses, the Arrancar made surprising move. He tried to toss it toward the bed of a pick up truck! As she watched the sword very nearly leave his palm, she reached forward as if to grab it. Sapphire was simply too gullible, and that sword meant more to her than anything. Thankfully, the separation between shinigami and soul slayer was not long; after having his fun, Shin decided to return it to her, albeit somewhat roughly. With a sigh of relief Sapphire bent over to reach for it as the hollow-turned-human-thing...being began to speak again.

”You‘re right.. The last time you saw me I was hidden behind a mask. I had no face, trapped within the darkness of my form. But that’s changed.. I‘m no longer bound by that restriction. And who said anything about someone threatening you.. ? I tried to warn you back then. But you didn‘t listen. Instead you attacked and that caused the other hollows to attack...and in the end I had to deal with you the hard way.. But.. What are you doing here? Can‘t it not be said that neither of us belong here in the world of the living yet.. We‘re both here. By order or by choice?”

The shhhhk of metal crossing asphalt was heard as Sapphire lifted her Zanpakuto off of the ground, Sairen no Harou singing her praises in her once more beautiful voice. Sapphire stood up again, running her fingertips along Sairen no Harou's length in gratitude. For the first time since the unlikely duo met, she cracked a smile. She doubted the arrancar before her could tell, so she felt free to. She wasn't entirely sure if she was smiling in relief or in spite of the circumstances surrounding this meeting. The man before her seemed to be more interested in talking to her then fighting her, and she would be more than happy to oblige so long as it delayed the crossing of swords.

"Tried to warn me....? You came out of my sword and started talking to me. Of course I thought that you were threatening me and the lives of my classmates...we were in the middle of an exercise. What did you expect me to do? Secondly........That's true, we don't really belong here anymore." She nearly chuckled at the absurdity of her position. "But we once did, didn't we? This used to be our home, our world!....and I miss it. It's so warm and inviting.." She sighed. "Isn't that why you're here?" She wasn't sure if she was right, but she took him for a passive one. Plus, had he been here out of hunger, he would of already attacked her or another soul by now. Hollows were incapable of controlling themselves, sometimes..their insatiable hunger driving them to insanity. She had seen it before. But with this one, she couldn't be sure.

”I‘m unarmed and you‘ve got your weapon.. But if you want to attack me still then know that you‘re stomach may be sore again.." He added, and her smile grew wider, silently. A wise one, for sure. If she didn't know better...was he trying to be funny, or serious? Her hands found their way to her tummy, rubbing it in recollection of the time he had headbutted her torso. Darn it, she still remembered the sting of it.

"That really hurt, you know....for all you know, I could be barren now, thanks to you." She said this relatively lightly. In a surprising move she turned away from him, walking down the street in the direction she had been going before. As she walked, her eyes scanned the display windows, keeping his figure in sight at all times and her hand on her Zanpakuto should he try anything.

"Look, I'm patrolling this area of the town. You're still a threat to the innocent souls here, no matter how you've changed...and I really...really don't want to fight you." Her stomach churned at the thought of trying to kill something so utterly...human, and she nearly doubted she had the capacity to. She sighed harmlessly, her feet shuffling across the asphalt. "I know you're strong...but if I have to, I will." The words came out too soft spoken, too gentle for her liking.....like she was talking to human being.

Half of her wanted him to just leave her alone, to go home and let her have a peaceful day in her warm Karakura Town..and the other half wanted him to follow. He was intriguing, to say the least.

Something that Shin had not noticed until then, an effect that his simple action of tossing the Soul cutter had and how much it meant to the girl. The sigh she gave was so full of relief that she had her weapon returned it was uncanny in as sense, did their swords really mean that much to the Gods of Death that simply being parted for too long made them panic? However his question was never allowed to be asked as Sapphire began to return his statements back at him, behind them the music had begun to grow louder as if the speakers they were coming from grew bigger.

"Tried to warn me....? You came out of my sword and started talking to me. Of course I thought that you were threatening me and the lives of my classmates...we were in the middle of an exercise. What did you expect me to do? Secondly........That's true, we don't really belong here anymore." There was a brief pause but not long enough for the Arrancar to answer what he had wanted her to do, what he hoped he would inflict onto the group of fear to make them flee.

“But we once did, didn't we? This used to be our home, our world!....and I miss it. It's so warm and inviting.. Isn't that why you're here?" Shin’s head by now had turned upward, staring toward the source of heat above them that he enjoyed so much. Instead of the cold empty night of Hueco Mundo, of the hell that he lived in of ever lasting darkness and empty planes of sand. Only those who had fallen so far into their own madness enjoyed the darkness, claimed to rule over it and all that was under the starless sky.

His head shot down at her next comment, being barren because of his head butt, the sentence itself caused the visible confusion to cross over the spirit’s face as he did nothing but shift the cane. The Shinigami had begun to turn away, her back facing the hollow now as she risked everything at the sound of the receding foot steps. He could easily strike her down, he could easily destroy her and yet, she was willing to almost trust him in a sense as soon after his steps began to follow. The heavy thudding of boots, the quiet taps of his cane and finally the sound of his voice as the spirit of death’s stopped talking.

The flickering blue flame before him had grown stronger, but even as she tried to say she would fight him the soft shake of his head in disbelief was enough. Shin’s pace had finally picked up, the walking stick he used finally moving out from in front of him as he pressed it to his side, gripping nearly halfway down the shaft. He didn’t turn his head, he didn’t smile but instead he walked forward, fixed on the point before him as he spoke. ”..I‘m still a threat and yet you really hope to have to fight me.. Is that the logic of a Shinigami? Of a slayer of evil souls like myself, born into darkness and knowing nothing more then that?”

His words took on a cold tone, as if the sun was no longer warming him and instead his reiatsu began to pour out. The killing intent he had attempted to hide was no longer restrained and instead the air itself started to feel thick. ”Killing Hollows.. Killing Shinigami. Consuming Humans. Consuming Shinigami. We feast on madness and hate and it only makes us stronger. It only makes us all the more powerful until we shed our masks and become humans. And then the world becomes different.” He finally stopped walking and turned his head toward the Shinigami, the shadow being cast over his forehead and eyes making him appear all the more dangerous.

”But.. That is how we are labeled by your scientists. Your courts and leaders. Each side has stories, has tales of how hateful the other world can be and so we hide away from one another. Shinigami in their walled City, Hollows in their desert of death. Killing anyone that ventures into our realm, clashing in the human world.” There was a grin that crossed over his face now as his head tipped back to rid himself of the darkness before his killing intent seemed to fade entirely.

”Yet.. There are enigmas. Oddities in the system. A hollow that refuses to eat spirits and only eats other hollows. A hollow that stays in the Human world, feasting upon the sun as it beats down before being forced to return to his world of darkness even as he lives in one for eternity.” Shin’s fingers began to absentmindedly run along the edge of what remained of his mask, a symbol of pride for some hollows but for him a reminder of his curse.

Sapphire walked forward, her gray eyes watching Shin from his reflection on the display windows as she passed each various building. Colorful and explicit signs beckoned her entrance, but she paid them no mind this time as she waited for a reaction. Soon enough the thud of thick boots was heard in response to her previous proposal, and they quickly rose in volume as the Arrancar proceeded to walk towards her. Sapphire let out a soft sigh, her request now denied. What is with this guy? She thought. He should be attacking me right now...but he's not. Is he really hollow? She looked over his slim, human like figure, only to be reminded of the tell-tale mask that took his sight from him.

As he picked up the pace, the hollow behind her began to speak up, his thoughts rolling off his tongue like they had been waiting for the right opportunity to leave his lips. What he had to say was intriguing; He first chastised her for her seemingly out-the-window logic, and then continued to speak of the war between Shinigami and Hollow like it was some sort of fairytale book. The air became thick with reiatsu as his anger overcame him, causing her her flinch and instinctively reach for her Zanpakuto. The sword had come out of its sheath a few inches before she realized what she was doing, and after hesitating briefly, she put it back down.

”Yet.. There are enigmas. Oddities in the system. A hollow that refuses to eat spirits and only eats other hollows. A hollow that stays in the Human world, feasting upon the sun as it beats down before being forced to return to his world of darkness even as he lives in one for eternity.”

At this Sapphire stopped and turned around, her eyes searching for some sort of hint at his intent. As his head lifted up toward the sun, the reiatsu had finally begun to lift...and all semblance of danger seemed to vanish. Her sandaled feet briskly walked forward, towards him, until they stopped a mere foot away. He was tall...she had to look up in order to stare into his face. Silently she lifted up her left hand and allowed her fingers to hover a few inches away from his face.

Almost comically she began to wave it, waiting intently for a response. The action was innocent if a bit naive, but her curiosity had gotten the best of her. Is he really blind? After a few moments a finger accidentally brushed away a lock of his hair, giving away her hand's location, much to her chagrin. She mulled over his entire speech in her head, trying to comprehend just what was going on in his mind. Finally she spoke, and her response was completely irrelevant.

"Shin. That was it, wasn't it?"
She sounded like she was thinking hard. Silence. And then,
"Just how fast are you?"

The air around her seemed to blur for a moment before her lithe form vanished. Within seconds of the flashstep she was far behind him, running as fast as she could in the opposite direction they had come. "Are you an oddity in the system?" She called out as her feet nimbly took her down several streets, an unseen acrobat among hundreds of the living that passed her by without a second thought. Without looking back, Sapphire turned a corner and made her way past a group of dancing street performers before she came to secluded and dingy alleyway. She stopped a moment to take in her surroundings before kneeling, pushing up her legs in long jump towards the concrete wall. Her sandals clattered against the wall before they settled on the roof of the building, and she continued to run. Feet clashing and thudding, she jumped from rooftop to rooftop, looking back only occasionally to see if he had caught up. Sliding her fingers through her own hair and licking her dry lips, she slid down the roof of a corporate building and unto the sidewalk, jumping atop the stall of a clueless fruit vendor. The stall dented under the force of her jump, and as she continued to run down the boulevard oranges and watermelons rolled down the street in disarray.

She'd be damned if she didn't learn anything from this experience. There were two outcomes for this: First, if Shin followed, perhaps she could learn a thing or two about him without actually having to fight...and it gave her something curious to do. If he didn't....well. For the best, perhaps...but she'd have to find him sooner or later.

The sliding metal of her blade starting to leave the sheath caused Shin’s hand to reach for the small clasp of his cane before it too stopped. It had seemed as though she was no longer the typical Shinigami, instead of drawing at the first sign of danger she stopped herself. Her hand was still on the handle of her zanpakuto when it clicked back into place and Shin’s head returned to fully tipping back toward the sky. For several moments everything was quiet until he heard the faint rushing of wind in front of his face, it was minute, and he could hear the rustling of cloth in front of his body.

When the hand brushed through his hair however his entire head dropped down and stared toward the female, the bangs lightly covering his forehead and the tops of his mask. "Shin. That was it, wasn't it?" her words caused him to start to nod before suddenly there was a rush of strong wind from the girls location seconds after she spoke again. "Just how fast are you?" the flickering blue flame that made up his vision of her was gone causing the hollow’s head to sweep left to right before she ended her movement.

By the distance she was maybe two hundred feet behind him and running, the robes of her uniform were catching the wind to create tiny snapping sounds to pronounce her location for him. Though as she ran he turned and began to give chase, his boots connecting with the concrete in heavy thuds as he tucked the cane in front of his body much like a shield to stop himself to connecting with objects. That was when her voice rang out as it faded from her rounding a corner. "Are you an oddity in the system?". His movement slowed before a small smirk crossed over his lips and he faded from sight with a flicker of static.

He stood ontop of the roofs, running along them as he pushed from the edge of one roof and ran along the thin air with the small barriers of energy under his feet. The tiny platforms that allowed spirits like himself and Sapphire to stand on nothing, but as he crossed each building he kept an eye down below on the girl. She was taking sharp turns, flickering from side to side from behind buildings or down alleyways before she came to a stop momentarily. Soon she was running on equal level with Shin as his hair blew back along his face and he continued to chase after the death god.

He was fast for someone that could not see what was in his path, and even as he ran along the roof it was visible as to why when Sapphire looked back. The cane that was held in front of him was curved downward like a denied sign, his hand gripping the very middle at arms length and as he passed an object the cane began to drag along it. Shin corrected this and would arch out of the path of it in the process, his body barely avoiding obstacles yet he was still moving at a speed to momentarily gain on a straight away before she once again avoided him. Leaping down there was a small clatter and the surprised gasp of several living humans below.

Shin’s form dropped after her, ending up in a small crouch as several round objects rolled into the back of his boots before he was off again. He finally spoke up, yelling up toward Sapphire as he continued to weave around individuals that did not know his presence was there. ”Yes.. I‘m the oddity in the system. ” His mouth pulled into a small grin before he leapt forward, propelling himself through the air with a small flutter of reiatsu before landing next to the Shinigami keeping pace this time. Turning to look at her for only a hairs breath he looked away and was gone again. This time his boots connecting with the heavy steel roof of a bus as he simply waved at her to follow.

He was off and running again as Shin made his way along the road in the same direction as the moving traffic constantly glancing behind him to see of the flicker of blue flame continued to follow before he darted off to the side this time. Down one alley. Down another, and finally he came to a stop awaiting the arrival of the Shinigami as farther down the path stood a hollow with a body much like that of a serpent, with six arms and in his hands was the soul chain to keep a spirit from running.

The black and teal diamond covered body of the Hollow was facing toward the Arrancar and Shinigami as it was more interested in its dinner then anything. As Shin spoke however it was a quiet whisper to keep the Hollow unaware for the moment ”Can you feel his intent to kill? The same sense that comes from Shinigami when they see a Hollow. It‘s the same sense that comes from a Hollow when they see a Shinigami..”.

Shin’s hand moved the cane from in front of his body as the small latch finally clicked and for a moment he didn’t move before his right hand grabbed the top of the walking stick and drew the blade out as it caught the sun on the way out. ”That intent to kill is what lets me see the world for what it really is” His words seemed almost amused before he was gone, the spray of blood that erupted into the air causing the Hollow to scream in pain as it stared at the now missing top arms that it held the chain in. He swept to the right, seeing the Shinigami before the scent of blood caught his attention to the left making him turn to see the blade in the Arrancar’s hands.

The hollow’s head had left its shoulders before it could open its mouth entirely as the Sword swung along the ground sending a semi circle of blood splatter onto the ground as the body began to turn to dust from being purified. His sword, like those of the Shinigami, was also a zanpakuto designed to slay spirits. However, even as he struck down one of his own kind, there was no killing intent, there was no pressure of his reiatsu. It was calm like water on a pond surface. ”Do you see... Where the boundaries between Hollow and Death God become blurred?”

Farther toward the center of the city, the air itself was starting to turn black and fade out as if the light was turning off there as the multi-story silhouette began to take shape as its red eyes fixed outward from behind its veil before fading from view again.
