Lea Leona Sparks was sitting on the front porch, looking out over the horizon watching the sun set in the sky. She was waiting for her husband to come home from work. Her husband Nick Sparks owned his own sword shop where he made swords and gave people lessons. Years ago they were the best Blade Warriors in Japan helping them fight against the Legion. Nick met Lea during that time and they fell in love with each other and they got married and continued to fight against the Legion. A few years ago Lea discovered she was pregnant with Nick’s unborn child. So confronted her husband and told him that she thought they should stay neutral. So they decided to leave Japan and live on the outskirts of a small village that was far away from the war with the Legion. Lea gave birth to their daughter Ashley Leona Sparks. One thing they were not expecting was this: their daughter had a passion for sword fights.

Lea and Nick both new that one day their daughter would make a great warrior for those resisting the Legion.

Nick walked over to his wife and asked, “Where’s Ashley?”

“She’s in the house,” Lea said as she went inside and noticed Ashley was not in the house.

“Ashley,” Lea said.

“What?” came a sharp reply from outside.

Nick went out to his shop and saw his daughter was twirling a sword in her hand.

“Put that down,” he said.

“No,” she said as she put the sword in its holder by her side.

“Ashley Leona Sparks you put that sword down right now,” he said sternly.

“My sword,” she said as she looked at him.

Nick could not help but smile when his six-year-old daughter looked at him with her big hazel eyes and said, “All right you can keep the sword.”

“Yay,” she said with an adorable smile.

He led her out of the workshop and led her back home.

“Dad,” she said. “Tell me the story about the Blade Warrior. You promised you would tell me.” Her dark brown hair blew in the wind as the sun was setting.

“All right,” Nick said as he entered the house with his daughter and sat down in his favorite wooden chair that his grandfather made him before Ashley was born.

Ashley grabbed her handmade wolf blanket her mother made her before she was worn and climbed into her father’s lap.

Lea entered the room and asked, “What are you guys up to?”

Nick looked at his wife and said, “I’m about to tell her the story about the legend of the Blade Warriors (or Weapons).”

Lea smiled and sat down in a chair beside her husband.

“All right Ashley,” Nick said. “The Blade Weapons were five weapons that were designed to combat the Legion. The Legend says that these weapons were forged from the same fire that was the burning bush and they were cooled in the holiest of water. The five weapons were created for the sole purpose of destroying the Legion’s dark power. However the weapons were scattered once their purpose was filled.”

Ashley listened intently. She loved to hear her father tell stories.

“Disappearing from the world in a flash, the legend of these weapons have been passed down from great warrior to great warrior. The weapons tend to take on a different form for each owner they have in order to help the warrior better fight. So, there is no telling what type of weapons the Blade Weapons actually were. However, this has all been speculation, this was until the Legion reappeared. Now people feel that these weapons are the only thing that will and can save the world from the Legion.”

“Whoa,” she said. “Why did you and Mama stop fighting?”

“We stopped because you came into our lives,” Lea said.

“Because of me?” Ashley asked as she climbed out of her father’s lap, but before her feet hit the floor her father grabbed her, but she pulled back. "Ash," he said. "Don't take it that way. Your mother didn't want to fight because she was afraid of losing you."

"I know that," she said. "But it's the way you guys said it. Like I was a mistake in y'alls lives."

Lea looked at her and said, “I didn’t mean to make it sound like you were unimportant. I just chose the wrong words is all.”

Ashley smiled and said, “I know.”

Nick looked at his daughter and said, “I think you can show your mother your sword.”

“Sword?” Lea repeated.

Ashley climbed out of her father’s lap and went to her room and grabbed her sword that she told her father she was going to keep.

She entered the room carrying the sword in her hand. The blade was slender, made from the finest silver there was available in Japan.

“Well,” Lea said. “Now that you have your own sword your father and I can teach you how to use it.”

“Really?” Ashley asked.

“Yes,” Nick said.

Ashley sat her sword down and smiled as she hugged her mother and father. They hugged her back and she went to her room and went to sleep.
