Officers job:
1) To learn how to run a successful pilly
2) To improve themselves in their piracy statistics
3) To support the crew and flag
4) To represent the crew in a positive manner.

1: How to run a proper Pillage!
Learn to do a few things:

A) Learn to max damage the opponents boat during the Battle Navigation (http://yppedia.puzzlepirates.com/ship)

B) Ensure your ship is properly crewed with pirates that will allow you to win.
- Sloop Pilly: Make sure you have AT LEAST 5 pirates on board before you sail. If you need to wait do so. You want to get 7 pirates on your sloop as many times as possible.
* Set up: Pilly leader: Nav + Bnav, 2 Sailors, 1 Bilger and 1 carpenter. You can always choose a gunner once you have max people in your crew.

C) Learn the tricks that will maximise the booty you earn from each win. The higher the stats of the pirates on your ship, the more poe they'll earn for you each win. The more pirates on your boat the more poe you'll earn. The higher the BNAV stat of the pirate leading the voyage the more poe is earned (untested). The more pirates on the ship, the more you'll end up with in the restock at the end (it's the same % of the PoE you'll earn). The longer you stay out pillying and winning the more poe you will earn with each win, also fights get harder each time.

2: Piracy Stats
The most important stats are: Swordfight and Rumble, this is because you use one of these 2 skills EVERY BATTLE. After that you should find one of the 3 main stats to become an expert in. This should be your favourite puzzle, either Sailing/Rigging, Bilging or Carpentry. This makes you a valuable pirate on any pilly, and people who see that you have a master or renowned+ statistic will understand that you are a serious pirate. Gunning should be the last stat that you focus on, because it is a stat that is needed only for more difficult jobs like SMH, dual bnaving and/or blockades
(Dual bnav is where the Gunner is also the bnaver... Not an advisory tactic)

TIP: High raised stats = More pilly earned for your ship at the end of a battle, in return more for you.

3: Supporting the crew and your flag!
A) Supporting the Crew! This is essential to any good pilly. As you may have seen an empty boat just makes you want to quit PP.
So helping others out even when you want to do your own thing is important. It's worth your time to go along and help others out, because
The good ones will return the favour. This doesn't mean that you have to work for others all the time, but as an officer you should expect
that for a good portion of your time. Do not expect to be in charge all the time.

EG. FearlessJohn jobs for PiratePete and FearlessRosa when they ask because they will come and do the same for him, in the end they all earn far more PoE's!

Supporting the crew and flag is also about being part of the community. By jobbing with others you get to know each other and develop friendships - which makes the game way
more fun. The bonus to this crew and flag support is subtle... (for example, we support flag events and pillages we get benefits like: Flag forums, fun events, always
having someone online to talk to, Blockade action, a purpose to play the game, and friendly jobbers)

4: Representing the crew and flag in a positive manner
This mostly has to do with pirate etiquette

Things NOT to do:
Spamming: It just annoys everyone and doesn't earn you any friends at all.
Begging: This is considered to be the worst thing you can do as a pirate. Many people find it insulting and won't have anything to do with you from that point on.
Leaving during battle: Another major no-no. Makes navvers hate you and screws everyone left on board the ship.
Insulting/disrespecting others: Makes you look like a fool, doesn't earn you any friends and makes others lose respect for you.
Backseat Navigating: Only annoys the Navigator and distracts them while they are navigating. This also includes asking for port. The Navigator is running the pilly and can decide on things like port themselves.
Constantly demanding attention: People play this game for fun and not for idolising you - so be good as a pirate and you'll earn their notice.
Keep your word: When you make an obligation, keep them and do your best to follow through with your committments. This makes you reliable as
a pirate, and everyone loves someone they can rely on.
