When Theyr sprung forth and practically hijacked the entire control panel, Melai winched, both out of annoyance of her ignorance towards the fact that the Rey was his ship, and not hers, and because of her exclamation. Melai could not care less about that useless war between the Empire and the insectoids, and thus could hardly care even the least about who Earth belonged to, let alone who happened to be there. But despite his complete lack of interest in the progress of the war, this unique incident had gotten in his way. The Rey truly could not get past these defenses by any means, it was too large to avoid being seen on the battlecruisers' scanners and generated too much energy to not being caught by their sensors. And even with the Warg and Zet'kil's ship, that Melai could never remember what was called, they would be chanceless in open battle against eight fully armed Imperial battlecruisers. They would be turned into stardust before they even as much as got near Earth's atmosphere! If only they could get past the battlecruisers...

Zet'kil's words were like a gift from above, and Melai turned against her with a smile. "Your ship can get past them? That would be great! Although I'm not too happy about leaving the Rey, avoiding fighting these battlecruisers is rather fatal..."
You might still turn this to be an advantage for you, the ant told Melai, With Earth being invaded by Imperials, the insectoids will be too busy battling them to notice the appearance of another, smaller vessel and its crew. If you are lucky, you might even avoid fighting alltogether, although I fear that the other mutants in the jungle surrounding your destination will still be a threat.
"That does it," Melai nodded, "Zet'kil, can your ship get us all to Earth? If so, I think that would be the best solution we have, although I'm not too happy about leaving the Rey floating in space when there are Imperials nearby..."
Keep the bigger picture in mind, the ant interrupted, Fulfill this assignment, and you can buy a whole fleet of Reys if you want. Besides, if you turn off the generators and the ship is immobile, the Imperials might just mistake it for an astroid or overlook it entirely.

"Your ship can get past them? That would be great!... "
"Yes, I do think so." The Xeian confirmed. She could make the ship undetectable for the sensors again, in the same way she had done before- when she was closing to Derth's ship, which indeed didn't notice them. (Thinking back, it turned out to be even more than was actually needed) Not to mention the the same kind of system on her previous, archaic ship had been enough to get out of some positionally very bad situations, one of those concerning her practically flying right past a few confusedly circling alien Searchers.
By changing the color pattens on the outer hull she could even make it mostly unnoticeable for bare eye, as that didn't conflict with the ability which let her ship's surface to let the signals sink in it rather than to reflect those, giving the same effect as it there had truly been nothing in the way of the signal, and it had faded away in the empty distances.

"Zet'kil, can your ship get us all to Earth? If so, I think that would be the best solution we have, although I'm not too happy about leaving the Rey floating in space when there are Imperials nearby..."

"All of us? The ship was meant for up to five as it was built... And that was about longer periods of time. In the matter of a few hours it could hold more than that without any problems."
And unless she had lost the ability to count, five was about how many of them there originally were, now including Derthadgan who she didn't know if could go past the radars on his own or not. To that she unfortunately had to add those who Talon-Random had with him... Seven? At least close to that was the number of his mercenaries. That made twelve in conclusion. But since it was likely to be a relatively short flight and for that small period of time they would fit in just fine, that really changed nothing.
They can still all go with her ship.

"Do we have something else to prepare before we move out?"

There was a flash, and a rent was torn in space as a rift was forced open. The end of a natural node line was forced from within, and the Howling Warg returned to real space, near the Rey. The Warg flew forward and came to a stop near to the Rey, as the rift collapsed on itself and closed.

In the cockpit Derth gazed out at the alien planet. It was familiar, and yet strange to him. Like other life supporting planets, it had oceans of blue, tan deserts snow capped mountains, and forests. A system of patchy white clouds lazily drifted over the planet’s sphere. Yet there were differences. There wasn’t enough land, there was too much water and clouds. The forests were the wrong shade, and there weren’t near enough mountains. It would be strange walking upon this world.

To his side, a console beeped. Derth pressed the controls, and brought up the sensor readout. What he saw made his jaw drop for a moment. His sensors detected several very large and very well armed ship in the same system. For a moment, he stared, slack jawed for a moment. Then he chuckled, rubbing two of his clawed hands together. One thing was for certain, he would be earning the secrets to node genesis. He howled as his kind did before battle.

He set a transmission to a weak, narrow beam, unlikely to get much farther in distance than the Rey. “Well, Melai, I compliment you and Lya on picking a worthy target. This will be a hunt to remember! I am ready.” Derth said. “Do you have a plan to get past the war ships? Or do we run the blockade?”

Holding his position behind the dark side of Earth's moon, Emerson awaited the command to attack.
Now with the awareness of all the ship's sensor arrays, combined with the calculating and indexing speed of the AI, he perceived everything in sensory range as if it were around his own body. He could sense the imperial battlecruisers, knowing their manufacturing date, crew count, captains, weapons arrays, engine brands without even thinking.

He could feel the satellites now fully gaining orbit over Earth. He could hear as they transmitted topographical data, coordinates, marking zones that looked heavily infested, as well as those that were of strategic importance.
Only then did he notice that something else appeared. Something that he was not expecting, a mere gnat compared to the surroundings, but it still was there, defiantly, approaching from the very edge of his sensors. He felt an itch at the back of his head, an unnerving feeling of something being unknown to him, when he wanted to know and understand everything.

Focusing his will on identifying the object, it suddenly vanished from the sensors. All he could get now was the silhouette from the radar arrays. But for some reason even that was fuzzy. Relaying the information to a pad and workdesk inside his mind, he began dissecting the feed, separating the blur, distortion and the interference caused by cosmic radiation, gravitational shifts.
But even after this procedure which took several miliseconds of his time to accomplish, the image was still blurred as if it had been encased in something.
Agonizing seconds passed as he waited for a few more radar pulses to confirm his findings.

Finally, the bogey was inside visual range. With maximal zoom, he made a picture of the approaching object, that seemed to have ripples around it.
Suddenly, the realization hit him. If this were a mere object, it could not possibly have this effect on its surroundings. The only logical explanation was a cloaking field, one that was more advanced than the Empire could ever hope for.
Another second passed as he ran diagnostics, theorems about how to decipher the feeds he was receiving. Finally, he decided on an ancient method, possibly used even before the Imperial Age: star-mapping.

Indexing his most recent archives, he compared the image he took of the object with the background of stars only moments before. By comparing the two images, he was able to replicate the distortion artificially, then by reversing its effects...

A three-dimensional silhouette appeared before him. Turning it around, examining it, he identified it as imperial in origin. It was a corvette-class ship; small enough to avoid the large cannons of stellar cruisers, but still large enough to carry significant crew and bolster some heavy weapons as well as a star-jump drive.
As schematics rushed across his screen, he noticed that some alterations to the standard model have been made to the ship in question. Just as he was running through the service records and indexing all ships of the current model reported active, two other blips appeared, vanishing even faster.

Now, he became curious.

(I apologize for my recent inactivity, but school has taken up a lot more of my time the past week's time as the finals are coming up. I will try to post whenever I can...)

While considering their options, Melai suddenly heard Derth's voice on the speakers, asking the same question that Melai was pondering on, except that it was probably not for the same reason. If Melai had the right idea of Derth, which he thought he had, considering that he was a creature that would hand over a ceremonial knife, of all things, to seal a deal, Derth was the kind of alien that lived for fighting, and not fought for his life. His ship had been intimidating from the first time Melai had laid eyes on it, but there was no way that even Derth could beat the battlecruisers - Melai actually doubted that Derth could even beat one of them, and here was eight. And if there was something Melai had learned from evading the Empire for more than an Earth-decade, it was that Imperials rarely missed - and battlecruisers never did. Going for it would be suicide.
Stepping up to the microphone, Melai prepared to answer Derth's question. "Charging at them would be a death sentence," he told the alien, "We are going to use a stealth-approach, and try to avoid the battlecruisers' attention. Does your ship have some kind of advanced stealth-system? If not, I think there is more room in Zet'kil's ship."
He turned around. "I guess that answered the question of what we will do. Head to Zet'kil's ship, everyone, and let's head for Earth! I'll just transfer the coordinates Retzaan gave me..." He bent over the computer, sending the information to Zet'kil's vessel.

Please don't get yourself killed just yet, the ant told him, We still have uses for you all, and we did so much in return for this little favor. When you are done here, and we return to Terra Gamma, you could come work for us. We could use capable agents.
"I'll think about it," Melai grunted, annoyedly shaking the ant off his head, "Until then, just tell us where to go and what to grab."

There he was, back to taking orders from whoever owned the damn ship they were aboard. Once the money started rolling in he was going to have to look at purchasing his own ship and paying someone to pilot the damn thing. Talon had never dealt well with being ordered around, not even his parents had had much success controlling their head strong child and spoiled child. Yet he had always kept his own skills, he worked well with others as long as he could find a way to work with them and work towards his own goals. In this case he was even beginning to develop a grudging respect for the idiot that continued to give orders without a thought to his words.

With a rough hand signal he was just beginning to learn he gave the captain of his guard orders to move out towards this alien creatures ship. He could barely remember it's name, and he wasn't entirely certain about it's gender either. Random had nothing against the being anymore than he personally had anything against the bugs, although everyone seemed to think he hated them somehow. Hopefully once they set foot on this retired planet it wouldn't be long before he got to go back to the much more pleasant business of marketing. If he was lucky his fortune would be enough to purchase his parent's business out from under them what promised to be an exciting coup. The problem would be keeping them from realizing what he was doing until it was too late, because at this point should they desire they could easily cut off his access to his funds and have bounty hunters on his tail to bring him back home in minutes.

Letting his thoughts wander in every which way he headed towards the boarding area for this alien ship and waited. It wouldn't be long before they would be running through alien territory trying desperately not to get themselves killed and to procure whatever the hell it was this alien wanted. Despite himself Talon almost felt excitement at the prospect, but it was quickly overruled by fear. It was more likely that he would die than any of the others, even with a squad of guards around him and a shield, he was the one least capable of defending himself.

"Bring up the holographic image of the surface, Athena," Reed told the VI as he leant back in his chair. He was starting to feel the familiar sense of impending doom as he always felt just before a great battle, and this was going to be his greatest one yet. In the past, Reed had fought civilians as a civilian, he had fought criminals as a cadet, he had fought insectoids as a trooper, ships as a captain, and now, as an admiral, with an entire fleet under his command, Reed was going to fight an entire planet of enemies that outnumbered them by uncountable times. So far, Reed had always survived, even when his comrades died around him, and even seeing those damn telekinetics rush by him, passing through the ranks so fast that Reed barely even managed to get to know them before they were gone. But not anymore. It had taken Reed decades, but he was and admiral now, and as such, he answered to no-one but Emperor itself, and Emperor rarely meddled in the business of the Imperial fleet, so in reality, Reed was the highest ranking in the fleet. And he liked it.
After a moment, the picture appeared in the air in front of him, showing that the Asteroth was slowly approaching Earth's atmosphere. White clouds lazily floated across the surface of the planet, both the blue and the green parts, but Reed knew that the green masses of land were far from as peaceful as they looked from this height. He knew that billions and billions of insectoids were amassing there, their wicked presence tainting the glorious Earth where their race had been born. Reed knew it would be dangerous - that was why he was sitting here, in in the control room in the very heart of the vessel, instead of the traditional seat in the front of the ship, where but a single incoming attack could take him out. Like this, Reed would be safe unless the entire Asteroth was taken down. And he would most certainly signal the retreat before that happened.

Finally, he picked up the radio. "All Captains, be ready! Initiate invasion... NOW!"
At his command, the Asteroth and the other battlecruisers within Reed's holographic field of view speeded up, approaching Earth much faster than before. As they entered the atmosphere, little violet dots appeared all over the green areas on the ground, and Reed instantly realized that this was the infamous insectoid version of the human SA-defenses - the Farters. Their glowing, acidic and extremely hot chemicals were already being fired at them. The insectoids were quick to respond... surprisingly so, actually.
"Deploy half of our Hunter-vessels!" Admiral Reed yelled, and Athena immediately complied, and something in the area of two hundred little gunships swarmed from the hatches of the Asteroth, and all around him, the other battlecruisers did the same, allowing the smaller, faster and more maneveurable ships to get ahead of them to thin out the enemy's defenses.

Zet'kil had been standing near the door, ready to leave and head for her ship as soon as others were ready to follow. Not much mentionable happened, except for the little exchange with Derthadgan.
"I guess that answered the question of what we will do. Head to Zet'kil's ship, everyone, and let's head for Earth! I'll just transfer the coordinates Retzaan gave me..."
It was enough for her- She turned and walked her ship's door opening again as she came closer, this time the thing also pulled in its 'legs' leaving itself to float in air.

The Xeian didn't waste time- she was soon enough up in the control room and working on making the ship truly invisible for both naked eye and the sensors of the other ships, as much as it was possible, even with technology so far more advanced than humans could even dream of.
She set the working links on passive, as well as set all systems on receiving- cutting down on sending any kind of signal out. Aside from that she did what she had first planned to do- for naked eye the outer surface first seemed to start to liquefy despite of nothing truly moving, and then suddenly it took the exact color of the surroundings- right then the color of the Rey's walls. When to be observed with sensors, the picture would not have been much better- the surface did no longer reflect anything. Any kind of signal hitting the ship would just sink in, as if there had truly been nothing at all.

"That is about the best I can do." Zet'kil told to everyone nearby who happened to be interested, "In case we aren't hit by anything solid or we don't accidentally completely block a signal sent out by one of those battlecruisers we should be fine- the latter can be avoided when we don't go too close to those. I can try to generate a background changing accordingly to surroundings to eliminate most of the second threat, too." With the last sentence she ran a hand over a panel, confirming for the ship what she had just said.

"Is everyone on board and we can go?"
She asked, once again tapping at the panel lightly and observing the information Melai had sent her on a screen- or rather it and the 'translated' version on it, which was in the Xeianic markings and in their system of coordinates- and in their system of numbers, apparently.

She trusted Melai enough to believe if he said she was not in danger from the water, then it must be so. The announcement though that there was an Imperial fleet in the area of Earth was pushing it a bit. What if they got hit? Who knew where they would land if the ship were damaged? Her jitters were back. What ever happened to the calm and collected Lya that first met the human Melai? She was afraid of nothing then. She would have told him to go jump in his own ocean and walked away. Now here she was storming past the entire Imperial fleet on her way to a planet of ultimate death, to face untold amounts of danger all to get him out of debt. Her ship was gone and she had nothing to depend upon but her wits and a few devices that might or might not protect her, or him. Humans were mad, insane even and she seemed to have caught it as well. Half of her wanted to beat Melai to a pulp and the other half wanted to hug him again and hope he could keep her away from the water. The logical part of her knew only that whatever happened it was in neither of their hands.

Lya nodded when they agreed to land in Zet'kil's ship, and left to gather what items she thought might be necessary, and joined the others as they boarded her ship. Lyahad no desire to be near any of them. Whether Melai liked it or not, he was the only one she felt safe around. That and she still needed him alive, but it was beginning to feel more like she just needed him. If she survived this, maybe she'd ask him about that as well.

The Warg flew near to Zet’kil’s ship, and docked via a tube extended and sealing to the airlock of the smaller ship. Derth left the cockpit of his ship and headed to the supply room. He wanted to be well prepared for his stay away from his ship. His scanners read that the atmosphere was breathable, but that didn’t rule out the possibility that the local bacteria and other life might prove harmful to his alien biology. He decided to bring a few of his medicines designed to strengthen his immune system, small devices for filtering water and purifying food, and a breathing filter. It wouldn’t do to fall ill in this mission as his body adapted to the local microflora. He also brought a small data chip containing the information zet’kil’s device would need to synthesize nutritional supplements for him.

He also armed himself well. He didn’t know the sort of obstacles he would face, or the sort of enemies he would encounter, and wanted to be prepared for as many possibilities as he could. In addition to his two disruptor pistols, he brought a rifle geared for long range accuracy, and a few plasma charges. His claws would do for close range combat. He also brought a few of his tools for obtaining prizes, a small electrical scanner, a laser cutter, a few tools for handling and welding electrical wires. He also brought a small communication module he could use to call his ship, if needed. All the devices and weapons, save for the rifle, were loaded into a pack which Derth shouldered. Carrying the rifle by hand, he walked to the airlock and crossed over into Zet’kil’s ship,

Derth found himself a seat in the small, crowded ship. He said nothing, but nodded in Lya’s direction. The Warg detached from Zet’kil’s ship, and moved to the node line entrance. It engaged what stealth technology it had, though it was nowhere near as good as Zet’kils.
