Derth snarled at Talon’s snide sarcasm, bearing his sharp teeth in a feral grin. Though he glared at the impudent Talon, he did nothing else but watch him leave. There would be time to teach the whelp is place. For now, he would simply have to endure it while Lya held his Grerrthiv. It rankled, but the promise of such a prize made it worthwhile. Who knows, perhaps he could obtain further technology during the mission.

In the cockpit of his ship, Derth brought his engines online and powered up the node drive with one hand. With another, he set the weapons into standby. With a third, he disengaged the exotic matter armor. And with the fourth, he opened up his communications system and contacted Melai’s ship.

“This is the Howling Warg,” Derth said, continuing to work the controls of his ship with three of his four arms. “Coordinates received. Rey de los Muerte, you lead, and I will follow your trail. I will have to fly by natural node lines, so I will arrive after you have, but not to much after.”

The Warg flew toward a natural node head in the region of space. Again, the node bores on his ship opened up, and it’s projectors protruded from open ports on his ship. They began feeding energy into the node. Before long, a rift was opened. The Warg’s engines flared and the ship entered into the chaotic tunnel of the node line.

With a low, humming noise, the Asteroth arrived at its destination, the coordinates above the Earth at which it would attack, and one by one, the screens that surrounded Admiral Reed announced that the others were arriving to their positions as well - except the Apollyon, which did really not have a place in their formation, but rather found its own place. Reed did not care much about what the gibbering fool, Emerson, did, as long as whatever plans he had worked to their advantage. If the Apollyon was really as mighty a vessel as Reed had been told, its bombardment should eradicate hundreds of thousands of bugs, perhaps even millions. But what did a few million losses mean to a species that counted several trillions?
Shaking his head, Reed tried to get rid of the hopelessness and concentrate on the mission at hand, but he found it nearly impossible. They were about to invade Earth with eight battlecruisers, one of them certainly with supreme firepower and a large, well-trained crew, and one that no-one really knew what to expect of. But in the past two-three hundred years, humanity had invaded Earth hundreds of times, and thousands of humans had died in these raids, yet the insectoids seemed as innumerable as ever. They killed one bugs, and a thousand stood ready to take their place... it seemed a hopeless battle. Reed had fought it before, several times, and each time had been forced to retreat. Why should this time be any different? This war could never end.

With a loud 'ping', the computer annouced that the countdown to the invasion had run out. With a determined expression on his face, Reed reached for the microphone to send radio-messages to the other ships.
"It is time," he said, "Let us make these bugs regret that they taint the homeworld of mankind!"

Zet'kil, unlike most of the others, didn't walk up to the cockpit and the crew quarters, but headed straight for the cargo- and her own ship she had landed there earlier.
With a single wave-like motion in air the door opened only to close again as the Xeian entered, but unlike on the previous times, the ship remained locked to the floor on it's three 'legs'.

At first searching out a few things in the upper cargo hold, and then coming back down to the control room, laying the things on a floating table of some kind, before she disappeared in the living quarters to find something to eat.
Returning with something hard and green-violet in one of her hands, she sat down and let one of her free hands to briefly touch the panel which responded with stirring to life and displaying recent information, both that detected by the ship, the information sent by the Union, and that by her friends and those who had sent her here with the small (side-?)task at hand.
The first one carried next to no importance, as she had been nearby all the time, so she only sent those sent the information to another panel, splitting it in two as not all of it was interesting for those waiting for her in another galaxy- or rather galaxies, as information was easily forwarded.

The rest was another matter. Skimming through the information sent to her by the Xeian Union, she bit in the odd-colored thing in her hand and started to chew on it, using all her three pairs of jaws. Nothing too much, basically the same what had been for a time already, with only a little changes in numbers, and a few more things found. The universe was large, very so, and yet it was completely possible to travel from one end to another in a time which didn't even exist to to the momentary change. Swallowing the last bit of the strange substance she moved yet closer to the different panels and started speaking something quickly in the Xeianic language, her words momentarily appearing on one of the holograpic panels.
When any of the other members of their small group were to look at the text they would probably understood nothing of the foreign markings, even when most of them would possible be capable of learning it, as Xeianic was quite simply built up, even when the amount of words and terms surpassed most of the other languages Zet'kil had been forced to learn in her life.
If anything of the simplest things would prove to be complicated to get used to, then maybe the measurements they used, and surprisingly enough, numbers, as 32-based system wasn't perhaps the easiest to be converted into the decimal system humans commonly used.

Only when slight disturbance in the air went through the ship she stopped and raised her head, only to figure that it was possibly no more than the inner field changes caused by the Rey around her ship accelerating and proceeding with the tunnel-jump.
Finishing the text, consisting both what she had written and said melded together, she disappeared again from the control room to finally set the device received earlier into order, so it would become a fully functional part of her ship.

Zet'kil's full name written in Xeianic.

She entered the control room heading toward Melai. "Okay, initiating Starjump once more! Brace yourself! We're making the jump in five... four... three... two... one..."

Well she could ask him after the jump she supposed. There was a bright flash of light, and while the others looked rather pressed to their seats for the moment, she began drifting across the room like some ethereal ghost or phantom. Then the show began. Streams of light seemed to flow from everyone into a vortex, hers as well. She morphed her arm elongating it until she was able to grab hold of Melai's seat, pulling herself forward. "My, isn't this pretty!" She spoke from just behind him, holding tightly to the back of his chair.

Then in another blinding flash of light, their forward motion slowed dramatically. Lya's own pulling on the seat and the slowing of the ship sent her tumbling through Melai. As she passed though him her mind was open in shock, screaming... 'what the hell is this?' Just as quickly, she came to rest on the control panel in an entirely ungraceful flailing of arms an legs. Scrambling off the buttons and blinking lights she began nervously pulling her dress back in place. Running her fingers through her hair she did her best to appear collected, "Melai, I wanted to talk to you. Ummm.." still looking a little flustered at the fool she had just made of herself. "Since I seem to have your attention at the moment. I think I had a vision."

Her eyes became deadly serious, as she braced herself on the control panel and leaned toward him, "I laid down to sleep for just a moment in this form. My thoughts stopped as they should, but then they reactivated in an entirely strange manner. I saw most of what happened to us on Terra Gamma, plus a lot of creepy other stuff. It was like I was there again but everything was jumbled and out of sequence." She leaned closer to Melai, her face just inches from his ear, not wanting Theyr to hear her. "Theyr turned into a pile of ants. I think she might be a Mind in disguise." Her eyes drifted to rest on the vile bug. "I have never had visions before. Is this common to humans? It was terrifying and altogether highly unpleasant."

After resting for a few hours in his room, Emerson went to the bathroom and turned on the tap. Placing a white cream on his face, he then took a small, hand-held blade and began to carefully but thoroughly sweep it across the lower part of his face, that was covered by the cream. All the while looking straight into the eyes of his reflection in the mirror.

Once he had finished with the slow strokes of the blade, washing and rinsing it after each stroke; he placed it on he porcelain counter just below the mirror. Then he took up some of the pouring water in his palms and gently raised it against his face, then beginning a ritual of quick, successive pats.
Taking a deep breath, he reached for a nearby cloth that was his towel, with it wiping off the water from his face.
The entire procedure to him was a ritual of preparation. Just like the men of antiquity painted themselves as they prepared for war, so too did Emerson shave the hairs that were growing on his chin and face. Now fully shaved, apart from his hair and eyebrows, he slowly pulled on his clothes, strapped the brass belt with the imperial seal upon it, then took his hat below his left arm and stood as tall as he could.

Examining himself in the mirror, he began thinking what his outlook was saying to the viewer. It spoke of a dedicated, thorough and capable man, an attest and true leader of the crew and the ship. He then slacked away, heaving a long, heavy sigh that was to be his last for a long time.

Resuming his earlier posture, he went out the door, heading straight to the bridge. Once there, he placed his hat on his head, which was designed to partially cover his eyes and further reinforce the determined, pragmatic look of a commander. The gaze of the men in the control room followed him in admiration as he went to his station, which he would only leave upon his death from now on.
They all knew what was expected of them; the crew, the ship and the Captain.

And so did Emerson.

As he entered the room, Nemesis immediately appeared before him. Knowing what was ahead, she said nothing as Emerson went to take his place in the Control Seat.
Slowly descending into the chair, he could feel the power of the cruiser and its systems, literally, at his fingertips. Closing his eyes, he took in all of the ship's controls, in tandem with the AI. Just as they were parsing their interfaces, he opened his eyes halfway through the procedure.
"Whatever happens, Nemesis." He said. "I am thankful for the time spent together."
"As am I, Captain." the AI responded, "Josh." she added after a brief pause.

A smile crossed his face, one that would likely be the last.
"Let's get to work then." He said, then turned back, facing straight forward as the bridge and the screens disappeared from his sight, gradually being replaced by the space outside, the view of Earth's moon that covered most of the horizon and the small flickering lights of the probes and satellites as they orbited around the planet, that was but a strip of brilliant blue against the cold, lifeless gray of the lunar surface.
He was now one with the Apollyon. He only needed to want to go somewhere, to turn, to accelerate and the massive ship followed his command as if it were an extension of him. Now fully fused with both the ship- and the AI's systems, every single function was unlocked as Joshua, Nemesis and the Apollyon became a single being.

And indeed, it felt as if they had become a god.

Several minutes passed where Melai could neither see nor hear, since while the IMM-field meant that everything inside the Rey would not just be turned into energy and cease to exist because they surpassed the speed of light, light itself and sound moved too slowly to provide any kind of information. In a way, Melai hated Starjumping because it took away his control of the ship, rendering him completely useless and entirely reliant on the Rey's computer to guide the ship where it was supposed to go safely. But at the same time, he could not help it but to enjoy that the burden of the responsability for every life onboard was lifted from his shoulders. Melai was not an experienced pilot, after all, and knowing that just a single false move could kill them all really did not make it any easier to try to figure out the controls.
It felt like an eternity before the Starjump across about one quarter of the galaxy was complete, and with a flash and a sudden explosion of sound, everything they had missed during the Starjump caught up with them. More than that, Melai realized, but he would have sworn that he actually saw Lya come flying through his seat and out of his chest and onto the control panel. It did not take much effort to realize that he actually saw that, since suddenly Melai felt it as if a searing light was burning his very mind, a thousand things that did not belong there suddenly filling out his entire brain-capacity. Memories of things he had never experienced, feelings he knew nothing about, knowledge of things from another world - for a second, it felt as if an entire universe of information opened up to Melai. The next, Lya was lying awkwardly on his control panel, trying to fix her dress and not reveal anything that was not meant to be seen by someone that were not intimate (how did Lya know which parts on humans that were supposed to stay hidden?), and all the thoughts, memories and feelings that had filled him faded away, leaving Melai utterly confused and dazzled with what he had just experienced.

He could barely even concentrate enough to listen to what she said, but he had to admit that she had a point - she had definitely gotten his attention, quite effectively. And thinking back, realizing how Lya had been lying just before, Melai wished that he had not been so shocked and confused that he had not even taken a look at her while he had the chance. Perhaps she was right... perhaps he really needed to get in someone's pants.
Returning to the present, Melai raised an eyebrow as Lya spoke of visions, wondering just how powerful these Telkrans really were, but when she started describing the 'vision', Melai could not keep himself from snickering.
"Those aren't visions," he said with a grin, "Those were just dreams. And yeah, we humans get them all the time." Then, leaning closer to copy Lya's confidential stance when she had told about Theyr in her dream, he added in a whisper: "And Theyr might be a jackass, but I doubt she is a Mind. Dreams tend to make up images from things you've seen, and sometimes they mix them up. It's perfectly normal."

Leaning back in his seat again, Melai tilted his head just slightly to look out at space, since Lya effectively blocked his view by apparently having found it comfortable to place her nice, round ass... why the heck did he think that? She was definitely right, he severely needed to get laid. Anyways, she sat on his control panel and was sort of in the way. But leaning to the side, Melai was welcomed by the sight of Earth in the distance, the planet almost glowing blue, the oceans Melai had read about being there reflecting the light from the sun, Sol, better than the much dimmer and smaller masses of land. There truly was something almost divine about that place... For the first time, Melai could understand why the Empire was so eager to take Earth from the insectoids.
"If you would step down from my control panel..." Melai gestured for Lya to move, but as he did, he felt his gaze sweep across her form and examine every curve there - What the Hell is wrong with me all of sudden? Did she break something in my head while bursting through my chest and all?. "Then perhaps we could approach Earth directly now."

He was laughing at her? What could possibly be the joke? "Dreams? you do this everytime you sleep? No wonder it takes you so long to regenerate. How do you bear such horror on a daily basis? One would think you would develop and aversion to the practice." She was distracted by his curiosity of what was out in space, as he leaned to the side to see around her. He seemed mesmerised by what was out there. "If you would step down from my control panel..."

"Of course, I'm sorry I didn't mean to block your view." When she stood to move to the side, his eyes swept over her with much the same intensity as he had for the view of space. She wished she understood better what was going on. Speech was easy compared to the body language of different species. "Then perhaps we could approach Earth directly now."

"Earth? We're here?" Now she was interested. She thought they had just entered the system, but if they were actually able to see the planet..." She turned around. What she saw, couldn't be! Her form wavered between human and cloud. She wanted to run, but there was nowhere to go. The ship just continued to get closer and closer to the 'blue' planet. She scrambled around the control panel. "Melai, if that is Earth. I can't go there...Well I can but," did she really want the others to know? She bent close to his ear, "If that is salt water down there..and I suspect that it is, There is one hell of a lot of it. No one mentioned this was a water planet. Melai, a tank with a mere 6 cubic feet of salt water is what my people use to execute violent offenders of the law. If I fall in that water I'm as good as dead. Even throwing it on me is equivalent to being shot with a disruptor. After Derth's blast at me I have precious few cells to spare." She grabbed hold of his arm, her eyes wild with fear, "Please tell me we aren't going anywhere near the water."

Rather surprised with Lya's reaction to Earth, since she had already seen the hologram of it in Retzaan's office, when the Mind had shown them all the uncountable insectoid forces that stood ready to defend their planet, but thinking back, Melai was not entirely sure if there had been any water visible at the time. Perhaps Lya really had no idea that the human and insectoid organisms required water to function, and as such, their homeworld was bound to have water. And if there was water, just how likely was it then that all of it was fresh? Did Telkrans not drink water? Puzzled by the alien, Melai decided to save his wondering for later, when they had time. For now, they were finally approaching their destination after the long detour to reclaim the Profiteer and gain another ally.
"Don't worry," Melai shrugged, "I'm sure we won't be going near any of the oceans... will we, guide?"
The little winged ant that represented Retzaan moved just slightly on Melai's shoulder, turned and looked as if it was examining Earth and fluttering its wings in a way that almost appeared thoughtful. Then it flew off Melai's shoulder and once again sat itself on Melai's temple in order to be able to speak telepathically with him.
No, you will not be near the seas, the ant told him, Saltwater should not pose a threat to the Telkran, but just to be sure, keep an eye out. Humans had salt water stored all kinds of unusual places back when they were the rulers of the planet, and there is no telling whether they have it where you are going, or if the insectoids have found a way to use it.
"You speak as if you knew a lot about it," Melai stated, a little uncomfortable at the thought of appearing to be talking to himself, "Have you been there before?"
I have not, the ant proclaimed, But my organism was born there two hundred years ago. Meaning that Retzaan was from there. We were one of the first Minds to evolve to our current state. We were powerful, and we still are... and I will be again once I reunite with the rest of us.
"You Minds freak me out with your way of talking," Melai winched, turning to Lya to relay the ant's message. "We won't be going near the large concentrations of salt water, but there might be a little nearby, so keep an eye open."
I will give you the coordinates you are going to, the ant continued, listing a series of numbers that apparently meant a specific location on Earth. You will be going to an area that was once near the border of an old country called Switzerland, to an underground laboratory. That is the place where you will find what we need.

Quickly entering the coordinates on the computer, Melai suddenly froze in the middle of a movement as he realized that the monitors were flashing with a message, as the radar of the ship caught a presence near their destination. "That's well and good," Melai said, staring at the words there, "But there are eight Imperial battlecruisers in orbit around the planet! There is no way we are getting in without one of them noticing us on their radars! Fighting through hordes of bugs is one thing, but facing Imperial warships is an entirely different matter!"

This time Theyr had been prepared for the star-jump-something – or better, she had tried to be – and somehow had been able to prohibit being catapulted through nearly the whole room as the last time she had experienced this way of traveling. However, she had come to rest lying on her stomach across three chairs, though she had no idea how she had managed it. The following few minutes were the first ones for about two months that she really enjoyed: the vision of everyone and everything around her suddenly starting to gleam with an unknown, beautiful type of light. When she had seen it the first time she had still been too confused and maybe a bit too frightened to totally enjoy this spectacular view. This time she enjoyed it to the full.

When things came back to normal again a few moments later the Scorpio remained as she was for a moment, enjoying the memory of the bygone beauty, before she slowly straightened up to cuddle herself in a single chair again, a somehow melancholic smile in her face.
However, when Theyr noticed a quiet mumble from Lya and Melai and a few furtive glances in her direction, her smile regained its usual brutality. Whatever these two mindless turtledoves were talking about her – she did not appreciate it.

Still, the next bits of conversation she picked up made her forget about this impoliteness soon enough. “Battlecruisers!?”, she barked, suddenly jumping up to her feet. “What the fuck is a fucking battlecruiser doing here? This goddamned planet belongs to us now!” The Scorpio pranced over to the screen, possessively putting her spread hand next to the planet the humans had tried to steal from them long ago, turning her face from the others to hide her nervousness in her face. No matter what she had just said – she was sure that none of them would be welcomed down there.
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.

Finally satisfied with the outcome she went back to the control room. The ship now accepted the device as secondary, and it was functionable, which was about all she had intended in the first place. Quickly sending off the information about her task and also informing a few of the other Xeina individuals- friends, if to say so- she was done with about all she had wanted to do.

With nothing more than a thought she summoned the known information about Earth- that didn't seem too bad, as long as she stays off... Certain things. Nothing too widespread, but those definitely existed on that planet. Not that all common things would be too good, but those at least didn't kill. She had already noticed that her naturally dark exoskeleton seemed to go even darker and also, more dull colored because of the atmosphere suitable for humans and insectoids. That is what happens with too much oxygen... She also knew she could get rid of that as soon as she wished, returning her looks to what those were before, but as it was nothing dangerous for now and the process will start over again as soon as the thin dull-black layer is gone, she simply paid no mind to it.

Taking her things, and also the additional device Derthadgan had asked for, she left her ship, and arrived at the cockpit of the Rey soon after.
"We won't be going near the large concentrations of salt water, but there might be a little nearby, so keep an eye open."
That was meant for... Lya? She glanced at the Telkran. Did the saltwater mess up with her electrons? She herself was fine with water- likely she would even be as fine under it- but the salts themselves might be a slight problem, in case these come in very high concentrations. Especially when it comes to contact with what was below her exoskeleton... Which was extremely unlikely unless she tries drinking it or manages to get cuts deep enough. But in water... Not so very high percentage, so she should be mostly fine with even that kind of water- when to speak of most of it, which was in oceans. In dry areas, there were whole lakes of salt, containing more solid salt-mass than liquid salt-water.

She stepped closer to the screen, watching the planet with curiosity, and that was when Melai suddenly spoke up. "That's well and good, but there are eight Imperial battlecruisers in orbit around the planet! There is no way we are getting in without one of them noticing us on their radars! Fighting through hordes of bugs is one thing, but facing Imperial warships is an entirely different matter!"- Getting a rather annoyed reaction from the insectoid in the ship.

"Warships?" Zet'kil asked, as she tried to read the message from behind. She was rather confident her ship- with its size and far more advanced technology- could get past those 'radars'... But not The Rey de los Muerte. And neither could her ship hide the larger ship as well as it could make itself disappear from the searching sensors.
"I think that my SX-type ship can slip past unnoticed by those... 'Radars', like you called those. If that is of any help?"
