Odd, she didn’t bother to dodge or reach for the disruptor, but instead commanded the ship to seal the airlock and reach behind her for something. He had paused, per his customs, to allow time for his opponent to arm herself. It should have been enough time. That is, for a Carnith, but he had noted that the humans he met earlier possessed slower reaction times. Was the mist so hampered when she assumed a human form? Or it could be that she simply did not expect him to fire? Ultimately, it didn’t matter.

In the meanwhile, his ship reported hostile craft closing around his. The Warg was strong, in a primitive brute force way, but could it handle all the ships out there? And that was assuming that the prize ship remained inert. He had seen it’s machinery, but he had no idea what it was capable of. If it were to attack, the hunt would not end well for him. As for this mist being, he doubted it was dead. If it was indeed a collection of particles as he saw, a disruptor would at best stun it. He could keep it inert, but chances were he could not kill it. And she had time alone on the ship. It was obvious it had been turned against him, it no longer heeded his commands. Even if he did contain her and return to his ship, her allies would not allow him to leave.

“So the hunt is decided,” He said to himself chuckling slightly, laughing at his own predicament. He kept the pistol trained on the golden layer of mist on the floor. “A pity, I should have been content with a lesser prize. But at least I will have the honor of perishing in combat. I don’t know if you can hear me mist, but I congratulate you. You are a skilled hunter yourself.”

“So the hunt is decided. A pity, I should have been content with a lesser prize. But at least I will have the honor of perishing in combat. I don’t know if you can hear me mist, but I congratulate you. You are a skilled hunter yourself.”

She had learned much in the short time she remained inert. Foremost being that disruptor blasts hurt as much as she remembered. Though she was brutally injured and shaken by the experience she wasn't about to let it show, enough blasts would kill her. From the way she felt right now, she would be perfectly content to be blasting away at this thief's ship from the comfort of Melai's bridge. Then came the realisation that this alien had some personal code of honor. He too was a hunter of technology. She could at least understand why he took her ship. He just hadn't thought the whole thing through. Brute force wasn't always the best weapon. Still she wanted to hurt him in some way. He had ruined her reputation after all. Not to mention zapping her every receptor with a disruptor.

Lya's anger was at an all time high, but then her basic instinct for profit kicked in. If she had never seen or heard of his species, likely he was new to Telkrans too. A thin stream of her golden particles, barely a threads width, shot across the floor to his foot. That was all she needed, the necessary information was hers. She couldn't speak his language but she could now mimic his form. For some reason beings were less prone to shoot you when you looked like them. In a few seconds her inert mass had shifted to the shape of a Carnithi female. Her hands ran over her fur, then tilting her head slightly she wasn't certain what to do with the extra set of limbs, so she let them fall limp for the moment.

"I am not so much skilled, as desperate. I am willing to die to defend this vessel. That you stole it has caused me shame you cannot begin to understand. For that alone I want to kill you. The point is you can..."

Countdown to self destruct at twenty-five minutes and counting.

"...there see. Though being shot with a disruptor is extremely painful for me and I'm never sure I will revive, you can keep shooting me till the time runs out and we both blow ourselves to whatever afterlife we believe in. Or, I could kill 'you' and have done with it." Her Temporal blaster appeared in her hand, but she slowly lowered it to a non aggressive position. With tentative steps she approached his towering form. "But that does neither of us any good. The truth is for all my weapons, my race is peaceful. So long as we have the biggest gun, there is no reason to act the bully. Now, I would rather turn a tidy profit than kill you, but there would have to be some recompense for the lifetime of humiliation I must now endure because of this entire debacle. Though it is with some restraint that I refrain from dismembering you, the question requiring an answer is...how badly do you want to die?"

Countdown to self destruct at twenty-four minutes and counting.

I Role Play because the people in my head tell me to.

"You're trying to think of how to lessen the impact of the explosion?" Melai yelled into the microphone while he had the Rey speed towards the coordinates provided of where Lya's ship was, "Screw that! We're going to stop the explosion the pirate-way! I'm boarding Lya's ship, and me, Theyr and Talon and his guys are going to help Lya take out that thief as quickly as possible so we can have Lya disable the self-destruct mechanism!" Before even considering to ask what kind of an opponent they would be up against, Melai already had the S&W in his left hand, pushing bullets into the two empty chambers with his thumb, while he kept steering the Rey towards its destination with his right hand. "You can do whatever you want, come and help us or keep trying to figure out how to stop the explosion in case we fail to stop the thief."

He turned around in his seat to face his passengers. "Talon, Theyr and mercenaries! We're going in guns blazing and claws ripping in a moment! Prepare yourself for battle! We have no idea what we're up against, so expect the worst and hope the best." He turned back to the microphone as he noticed that he was approaching Lya's ship now, and it was connected to some kind of brutal-looking gunship, and in his quiet mind, Melai thanked God that that vessel was immobile at the moment, because there was no way the Rey would stand a chance against that advanced weaponry, not even if Talon had his guys mount all the six turrets on the Rey!
"Zet'kil, what's the hatch-code for Lya's ship?" he asked, bringing the Rey to a stop just next to the Profiteer and he returned the S&W to its holster by his hip and instead took out his IR-rifle.

Theyr’s claws slowly rasped one of the walls, while she turned away to hide her face from all humans one the ship. She was sure that the wild, untamed lust to fight that pulled her face to a grimace of hate. It was unworthy enough to have to obey a human’s orders, that had become her fault alone when she had not asked the Mind Retzaan for a job away from the little group, and being stuck on a ship with a whole bunch of these bastards was pretty harassing as well – but being ordered to save the creature that had dared to threaten her earlier the day was nearly too much for her to bear.

Slowly she managed to gain control over her facial expression again, forcing her thoughts from seductive pictures of tortured human bodies to the less familiar fields of strategic thinking. This was the best that could happen to her. She just had to accept the shame of having to take orders and to fail her mission. According to Melai and Zetkil Lya was not too safe at the moment. Now… Imagine that she and Shadow Claw would somehow disappear, perhaps getting involved in a fight with the thief’s men. Imagine that the cockroach calling himself Silencer would die in dignity, while she would get lost Lya’s ship. The humans would be able to face the enemy for long. Good bye, Lya…

A malicious smile appeared on her face while she turned around again, the piercing blue eyes narrowed to slots. “Okay”, she said softly, slowly licking one of her still bloody claws.
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.

"You're trying to think of how to lessen the impact of the explosion? "Screw that! We're going to stop the explosion the pirate-way! I'm boarding Lya's ship, and me, Theyr and Talon and his guys are going to help Lya take out that thief as quickly as possible so we can have Lya disable the self-destruct mechanism!"
"What I meant as the first option, was that I'll completely power down Lya's ship when everything else we might have come up by that time has failed. Things that are completely drained from energy required to follow any kind of order can't explode. At all. Zet'kil pionted out, explaining her intentions a little closer. "The part which was about 'lessening the impact', as you put that, is only the final option which goes into effect only when even the powering down fails. And that I'll only do when the time is about to run out and we still managed to do something to stop that on board. If you did get what I meant with all this. It was true her explanations weren't of the clearest sort, but that really was the best she could come up with on the spot, given such a small amount of time.

"You can do whatever you want, come and help us or keep trying to figure out how to stop the explosion in case we fail to stop the thief."
"I don't think I'll come up with something better than what I already have, so yes, I am coming with you. My ship has a good communication with me wherever nearby I am, and it will respond to my commands immediately, even when I am not in it at the given moment, so being on Lya's ship is by no means in my way when I want it do do something. I will just retrieve some things of my own before I am coming."
The Xeian moved away from the panels and muttered something in the Xeianic language before she found the portable shield technology developed by her own race and returned to her original position close to the controls.

"Zet'kil, what's the hatch-code for Lya's ship?" In a quick motin she gave the ship a few additional orders. "I have now sent it to you using the same link I used to send messages before. The small ship started slowly moving towards the two alien ships, one belonging to the hydrogen-based, upright-standing, warmblooded thief, and the other to Lya De'Vahl, the Telkran.

A thought can create a world, but only a word written down can ensure its existence.

-When I am physically capable of doing something it doesn't mean I can do it. When I can, it doesn't mean that I should. When I should, it doesn't mean that I must. When I must, it doesn't mean that I will.
-I might not always know where I currently am, but I am never lost. I know in which direction my destination lies.
-There is no faith in knowing. I prefer to know, as only in this way can I be certain in my decisions.
-The more people you ask a question the higher the chance that at least one of them is right.
-Make me walk on walls, don't force me to dance according to others' will.
-I agree that life can be depressing at times. I just choose to ignore it.
-I don't figure over possibilities. I want, I can, I do.

As soon as he started to stand he realized something, he was taking orders from a complete and utter idiot. Yet he did recognize the man as the one with more experience in the situation, so he turned to the greater experience for assistance. Looking towards the man who served as the captain of his guard at the time he lifted his hand in salute.
" Your first job is to keep me alive, your second job is to get my business partner to her damned control room alive, hopefully with the bastard thief lying in a pool of his own blood behind you. How you do that is up to you, but remember I'm going with you."

A smile slipped across the man's face at the words, he didn't look like he had often been put in direct charge, and here his employer had given him permission to do as he pleased. With a wave of his hand the other mercenaries had their weapons locked and loaded and a sort of defensive formation put up around Random, who was incapable of getting anyone except the mercenaries to call him that. As they were readying themselves to board the captain turned to Random.
" Sir, once we get in there and things get underway......Please try not to shoot any of our people with that thing of yours. It's not deadly but we need our numbers."
Slightly surprised Talon nodded once at the man and turned the device up a couple of notches. He would be careful with his shooting. He wouldn't want to end up with his companions all stunned around him facing the enemy alone.
"I mourn that which may have been but will never be."

"Stupidity is a wound that bleeds forever; Intelligence is a blade that stays forever sharp"

"An armed man will kill and unarmed man with monotonous regularity"

"Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghillie suit."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, 'cause it's going to be empty."

“Stop, that’s close enough,” Derth said, leveling his pistol at Lya as she approached. Still, the form she adopted unsettled him, he had not seen one of his own kind in months. But her guise wasn’t perfect. Her scent was still slightly off, and her lower arms hung uselessly as if paralyzed. But the resemblance was definitely close enough to trigger strange feelings in him. The male Carnithi instincts of protectiveness and a desire to impress and please began to surface in his mind, and to cloud his thoughts. He tried to clamp down on them, and tried to remember the mist she was before. He endeavored not to let his discomfort show.

However, unsettling appearance aside, he began considering this strange being. She was a hunter of sorts, but a hunter of profits, rather than of technology. Still, she was willing to confront him in person, that had to be recognized. And she was offering to end this without death, though Derth did not like the sound of recompense that she spoke about. But if he could still return with the technology he needed, he would be willing to negotiate. The personal embarrassment he would endure now would be far outweighed by the honor he would gain once he returned to his own galaxy and home, even with a lesser prize.

“Die? I did not say I wanted to die. I am merely content to die in battle, if that is my fate. It is an honor to die in combat, and death is preferable to returning home empty handed,” Derth said. “And I would choose the manner of my death myself, I would take my ship with me. And I doubt that even this vessel could survive a large matter-antimatter reaction this close. If one of us dies, the other does too.”

“But, I would prefer an honor I could be alive to enjoy. I don’t need the ship itself, but the technology from it. I will make do with a lesser prize. If you are a hunter of profits… then let us barter.” Derth said. He suspected this decision might be influenced by the instincts that Lya’s new form were triggering despite his efforts to control them. But perhaps it was for the better, even a lesser prize from this marvelous ship would be enough to secure his name among the greatest hunters among his kind. At last, he lowered his own weapon, but he kept it ready just in case.

“Stop, that’s close enough.” Not wanting to antagonize him into firing the disruptor again, while still keeping the upper hand, she stopped. From his little speech it was clear that neither of them wanted to die and he was willing to barter. Perhaps things were going to turn out well after all. Unless this was all a ruse to get her to lower her guard, but she highly doubted it.

"If you are willing to surrender hostilities, we may barter." It would do no good to continue threatening him with her gun visible, so she withdrew it to her back. Until she was certain of the deal however, she was not about to halt the self destruct. "I am Lya, a Telkran shape-shifter and profiteer. By stealing my ship you have shamed me to the point I can not return to my people. We are mind melders, I would not be able to hide what happened here. While, in your place I would probably have tried to do the exact thing you did, steal the ship. It is not simply a disgrace for me, but a punishable crime. We do not share or sell our most advanced technology. I can however sell or barter the technology of the ship model just previous to this vessel."

She was uncomfortable in this form. How did one smile? She suddenly missed the human form and the ability to share emotion, what little she understood of it anyway. "Pardon me, but..." She altered back to the now familiar species. A warm smile touched her face. She didn't know the feeling but she welcomed it. "Much better...where were we? Ah yes. Those of us who were traveling together were about to begin a mission of sorts. I might be willing to forgive your transgression against me and give you the technology you desire if you join us until we complete our commission. The way I see it the more of us going, the better our odds of survival. I won't deceive you, it is dangerous and we might not succeed, but that is my deal. You seem the type willing to take a risk?"

I Role Play because the people in my head tell me to.

Emerson nodded, weighing the instructions, and the tactical applications. He liked to look at the big picture, playing out how the plan would go down if each of them did their task. So, he was tasked with securing the carriers and providing firing support from above.
"One more thing, Admiral. We also have an array of orbital satellites ready for deployment. They have been designed to provide high-resolution satellite imagery that can be linked with ground troops as well as our ships, giving us a real-time view of the battlefield to complement logistics and deployment, as well as monitor enemy movement."
He paused for a moment, waiting for the information to sink in, before continuing. "And their small size and the speed at which they will orbit the planet should make them hard targets for the Farters below."

He then issued a command for all Hunter pilots to suit up and head for the nearest hangar while the on-board systems prepared their fighters. He then fired up the massive turbine reactors powering the cooling modules for the five ion cannons, and made sure the ship had ample power recharging capabilities for firing the cannons for multiple salvos.
So far, all systems were optimal.
"One question though. Has any new strands of bugs emerged that would threaten orbital ships apart from Farters and carriers? I heard these things evolve fast, and it wouldn't surprise me if they become impervious to our weapons after a while."

(I will give Fortis and Oracle a chance to have their characters negotiate before acting with Melai again... Admiral Reed has something to say to Attila, though.)

"Do as you please, Emerson," Reed sighed and waved tiredly at the captain. How long would he have to suffer the presence of this fool that Emperor had chosen above him? "As for a new strand of bugs, we have little means to monitor the insectoids on Earth, but as you may have heard, we have captured numerous of them and keep them in facilities across the galaxy to research their development. There doesn't seem to be any direct evolution, but rather uncontrollable and random mutations in their species. We've seen some cases with Farters being hatched with the exoskeleton of a Crosser, and some rare cases of Crukons being born with wings. Also, we've detected that some of the Buzzers are developing more potent poisons that might in fact be lethal, and the latest generations of Panzeri seem to have gotten bigger and stronger... not exactly reassuring." He grinned. "But in our favor, most of the mutations are negative. Bugs born missing limbs or having two heads or deform carapace... did you know that three out of ten insectoids doesn't survive their first week alive? We even had one accident in one of our outposts where a Farter was born unable to control the mixing of its naturally occuring chemicals, and with no exhaust on its hind body! In less than three seconds, that Farter's reaction had gone out of control, and it blew up in an explosion that has been measured to be of more than a gigaton! The entire facility was eradicated, but if that happens on Earth once in a while, the bugs have plenty of problems beside us!"
