(By the way, I added a "Factions of the Milky Way" section to the introductionary post.)

It was getting quite painfully clear to Melai that he had forgotten something when he had agreed to stay put instead of trying to follow Zet'kil and Lya, and that was the overwhelming feeling of uselessness as well as the eagerness of which he jumped to his monitor each time Zet'kil sent him a message, only to disappoint him every time as she merely updated him on their progress. He had completely given up on trying to get through the incredible boredom that was to read the manual to the Rey de los Muerte, and instead just sat in his seat and stared intensely at the numbers and letters that were the coordinates of the Xeian vessel, watched them change little by little sometimes, but other times speeding up and, when she tunnel-jumped, Melai presumed, the coordinates even seemed to change to a location several LY away from where she had been before in an instant.
Then finally the message came that announced that Zet'kil and Lya had found the thief, and although Zet'kil's link kept Melai updated with her coordinates, the Xeian ship still seemed to send them to him. With a wide grin, Melai did not waste a second, but quickly grabbed the throttle-lever and pulled it as far back as he could, accelerating the Rey and having it dart forwards with all of its four fusion-rockets working on their hardest, but the impulse-engine still inactive. He typed the coordinates that Zet'kil had sent him into the ship's computer and had it calculate a route there, since if he did not let the computer calculate such things, he could end up Starjumping straight into a planet or a star. And he most certainly did not want that.

"Okay, everyone!" Melai shouted to the people in the back as a loud humming filled the back of the Rey as the generators powered up to their maximum to supply the impulse-engine with sufficient power to reach Starjump-speeds, "Hold on this time, it's going to be a rough ride! Starjump in three... two... one... now!"

"Captain Emerson has not only accepted your transmission, Admiral," Athena reported, "He has just arrived in the Sol system himself and has personally attempted to contact us. I am establishing a holo-link, if you want me to?"
"Thank you, Athena, that would be nice," Reed nodded, and wink at her commander, the VI faded away and the holographic shape of Emerson appeared in the room with the seven other captains of the fleet, while holograms of all the other captains and Admiral Reed appeared in Emerson's ship as well.
Admiral Reed winched at the sight of the man, though. That was the great Captain Emerson, the commanding officer of the Apollyon. The Apollyon, which Emperor had chosen to be the vessel to test the newest and most high-tech weaponry and utilities on, even though Admiral Reed himself had offered his mighty Asteroth as the subject for the prototypes. This was the man that had humiliated Reed unknowingly before the other officers... but, Reed guessed, at least now he would get to see what Captain Emerson and the great Apollyon really were capable of.

"Greetings, captain. I am Admiral Reed, the commanding officer of the current activities in the Sol system," Reed told him, "We were just about to initiate a new assault on Earth, but the other captains here would like to ask whether you and the Apollyon would mind joining us in the attack?" Oh, the humiliation! "I do have to remind you, though, that the situation on Earth is still classified as a Class 3 risk, and none of us are authorized to promote it to any higher risks because of the damage already caused on the environment on Earth."
In the back of his mind, Reed wondered whether Captain Emerson had even ever heard about the risk-Class system? In his head, he summerized that Class 0 meant that there was no threat from the planet, Class 1 authorized Imperial units to arrest individuals and shut down suspicious activities, Class 2 gave the soldiers permission to use lethal ammunition, and Class 3, like this, meant that the planet was at a state of hostility that justified a full-blown invasion. Above Class 3 was Class 4, which would excuse the use of weapons of mass destruction, such as from the ABC-list (Atomic, Biologic and Chemical weaponry) and the highest risk at all was represented by Class 5 risk level. A Class 5 had only ever occurred once, with the Segai, and even that had been insufficient to destroy the Empire's little secret. Class 5 authorized the destruction of an entire planet by the use of a hydrogen-bomb, which would ignite the atmosphere and eradicate all life.

"As always with Earth, we can expect heavy resistance and large losses," Reed reminded him, sighing in boredom as he had repeated those words way too many times during his time as the commander of Asteroth, and although numerous battlecruisers and uncountable lives had been lost to reclaim Earth, the insectoids just seemed to keep massing.
"You are not one of my charges, though," Reed pointed out, "So I can't order you to join in the assault. Will the Apollyon be joining us, Captain?"

Lya had made it to her control room, and had merged with her ship. Letting it know it was in no way to cooperate with the alien any further was her first priority. The second was to let ship know if the alien tried to escape with his own vessel, it was to be blown out of the sky. That Planet Buster was going nowhere. The third was to initiate a self destruct. If this enemy was more powerful than she realised, or managed to subdue or kill her...Well, it could not be allowed to happen. Better to destroy it all.

Melai and Shadow Claw should show up soon. She sent a call out to all three vessels. Be aware I have retaken the Profiteer. I am about to confront the enemy that took my ship. I have set the auto destruct for 30 minutes. If I have not disposed of the enemy in that time clear out of the sector. The explosion will be significant. Talon the deal is still yours, but if I am not here someone will contact you. Make up a story huh? I don't want to be know as the greatest Telkran fool who ever lived. Shadow Claw so long as you protect Melai, the paycheck keeps coming. Melai.... What could she possibly say to him? If she was gone, what did it matter? Sorry for all the trouble I caused... I really wish you had told me about the pants. I'm sending the code to the port hatch if anyone wants to dock. That's all, activating the count down now.

She opened the control room and shifted to her human form. Let's see just what we are dealing with. He was coming through the airlock just as she approached. All the better that they were on her ship. His towering figure appeared to be canine? But he had extra arms, a strange ocular device, and tusks. One of which was covered in a sharp metal tip. His claws looked likely to shred a fleshly being, but would do little to her. "It seems you have taken something that doesn't belong to you. I don't take kindly to being made a fool of. Nor am I willing to let you return to your world with it. You may return everything you took, and I might permit you to live."

I Role Play because the people in my head tell me to.

Emerson was relieved when the room was filled by holograms of all the captains of the current vessels. "It's an honor to finally meet up with the rest of you, gentlemen. As promised, the Apollyon will rally with the rest of the troops. And even though our terrestrial assault options are limited, I will do what I can from orbit. As most of you know, the Apollyon is primarily an orbital assault cruiser, specifically designed to take out the insectoids' capital ships and carriers. But thanks to the satellite targeting resolution network arrays, that can link up with ground forces, we can also initiate tactical Ion Cannon strikes from orbit."
He wondered if he should mention the newly installed Creation Engine. He decided it wouldn't be wise in the long run.
"We can also supply tanks, walkers and aircraft, but that's really it. Our infantry personnel is limited to on-board security teams and engineering officers."

He then turned to Admiral Reed. "Yes, I was somewhat aware of the situation, but I am thankful for updates nevertheless. And I can assure that the Ion Cannon does no long-term environmental damage. It is a focused beam of Ion particles powered by the shipboard generator that pounds the ground with a few megatons of directed force and pressure, leveling anything in a radius of a few miles. Perfect, in my opinion for wreaking havoc in a bug hive. But the real power of the weapon lies in its deadly accuracy. Driven by our AI, and fed continual GPS and satellite updates, I promise it will become a feared weapon in our arsenal."

He nodded, partly to himself, making sure he got all the details. "Right." He said, turning back to Admiral Reed. "From this moment on, I place myself and all my personnel and hardware under your command and authority as far as tactical maneuvers and combat goes, Admiral."
He steadily walked back towards the seat and slowly sat back in.
"I am ready to receive my orders." He said, as the ship parsed the necessary neural interfaces.

Shadow Claw watched the small ship, and began to wonder what technology was inside. While he pondered on the matter, the computer had received a message from Zet'kil, and listened to it. Deciding that now was a good time to head off to meet this thief once and for all. He plotted the co-ordinates, and started the hyper drive, ready to head to the destination. He activated his thrusters just as the Xeian ship started to accelerate again. Shortly after the small ship had disappeared, his hyper drive activated, and went inside. He got out of his chair, and went over to lather his body with the tree sap, since he nearly forgot to do it. As he was scraping the container clean of the remnants, he looked over to the cage where his Duke Busters were. The three crude missiles remained motionless, the dust creeping down the sides of the frame. "I really need to get the launchers. I need to test them, to see if they work or not."

15 minutes later, he arrived at his destination, and saw Lya's ship there, along with the thief's ship. He primed his gun, and was ready to destroy the topmost ship when he received a message.

He nodded at the command, and began his scanners across the thief's ship. He could see the energy pulses from Lya, and he could detect the thief that was in there as well. He opened his com, and began to speak, even though she was trying to negotiate. "This is Shadow Claw of the Cosmic Hunter. You have stolen something from my contractor. I have my weapons locked onto the engines of your ship. Surrender my contractor's ship now, and you will be allowed to live. Unless she tells me otherwise."

Sitting and talking with the mercenaries that were his personal guard Talon began to feel they were all good choices. Each and every one of the men was perfect for the job, and if they hadn't like him before they didn't like him any less now, he was almost a friend to some he thought, and a decent employer it seemed to others. Sitting and talking in that way he actually managed to get one of them to teach him how to shoot, which was slightly difficult to do when you couldn't discharge any weapons from within the ship. Eventually he did manage to grasp a better way to hold the thing, and a sort of comfort with it that he hadn't had before. Despite the fact that it was simply a stun gun he believed it would serve as a functional self-defense tool outside of times when he simply had his mercenaries kill his enemies.

As time passed he quickly began to grow bored on the forsaken junk pile he was riding in. How he had gotten mixed up in all of this he didn't know, and the number on his bank card was surprisingly low. The cash hadn't even started to flow in yet but he had made several purchases on the simple idea that it would be flowing in. It took a real business man to convince people that it was truly coming, and the rest of his money was transferred to 'banks' on the planet they had just recently left. Now he simply had to wait for his investments to fall together and everything would be smooth there on out.

Suddenly he was brought spinning from his dreams of money and the game by the announcement by his business partner. Her words were interesting, that she seemed to expect to die surprised him. What was it that had stolen her ship that she seemed to think it was a match for something that could take any shape it desired? Despite the fact that he felt almost completely betrayed by his business partner he nodded at her words, he could make up a good story for her people to remember her by. If she did survive he would have to watch her closer, she could be a powerful asset to him, but she could be dangerous as well, especially with her obsession for the idiot Melai.

As he stepped onto the prize ship, Derth sent an experimental command to the computer via the wetlink. He wasn’t too surprised when the computer refused to even acknowledge him. With an annoyed grunt, he thought a command to the now useless wetlink to disconnect. Derth briefly grimaced as the fibers painfully withdrew from his neck. He removed the wetlink and pocketed it. So the ship was no longer under his control. It could probably kill him now, but instead it seemed the owner chose to confront him in person.

“So, you are that golden mist I saw earlier. Usually masters send their servants to fight, while they themselves remain behind their ship’s armor. Yet you do not. You have my respect for that,” Derth said, his words translated from his feral language by a device on his belt. He looked at Lya evenly as she came into his view. She looked like one of the human pilots he fought earlier, quite unlike the golden mist he saw earlier. But his artificial eye noted subtle differences, and she didn’t smell quite right either. “But you and your servant’s threats are premature. The hunt is not yet over, you do not yet dictate when I live or die. Let us decide it now!” Derth said. He drew two disruptor pistols. One he held. The other he tossed toward Lya, the gun sliding to a stop at her feet. After a second, Derth crouched into a combat stance, ready to dodge, and leveled his pistol at Lya. Pulling the trigger, the pistol shot a blue beam of energy at Lya.

Meanwhile, Derth’s ship swung it’s turrets to point at the Cosmic Hunter. Given that it was currently docked with Lya’s ship, only four of the particle cannons could be brought to bear on Shadow Claw’s ship. However, the Warg held it’s fire, it was commanded not to attack unless it was fired upon. Derth wanted to confront the owner of the ship in person without needless distractions.

Without any further notice the Telkran had slipped away and headed for the air lock, with the obvious intent to leave her ship. As far as Zet'kil knew, lifeforms based on the same things she was didn't need any constant supply of chemicals from the outside, and neither did the lack of gravity or air pressure affect them- they weren't coherent anyways, at least not when in natural state, thus couldn't suffer due to the large differences of those conditions.

Tapping the control panel (Making sure the ship wont take it as an order of some kind, or that she wouldn't actually hit something of the many things what were there) she watched the golden mist to approach the two ships and enter. After that she could only rely on the scanners of her ship, set to the highest possible sensitivity.
The Telkran appeared to use some kind of stealth-based tactic, not letting the thief know that she is there, until suddenly the ship lurched to the side.
The two living beings seemed to move closer to each other... She hoped Lya knew what she was doing, whatever it was. She thought over trying to contact the Profiteer, but decided against- what use would be of that?

Her ship detected a some kind of message being sent, but the Xeian didn't bother to read it, knowing that it originated from Shadow Claw. Possibly threat to blow them up unless they accept everything Lya wants to... That much she knew the insectoid and dared to expect from him.

True, the rough, barely advanced-looking ship responded by aiming the turrets at the cosmic hunter, and even applied a shielding- which was far better technology than she would have expected. No doubt it was something the thief had stolen from more highly-developed races. But... It was still only a physical shield. So it was far less advanced than the field-based technology the Xeians used for shielding. Well, it might take more energy, but att least ships meant for fire-exchanges and battles had more than plenty of it... Hers was technically still only an utility ship. Personal utility ship at that. (Those basically equaled cars humans used in the past, for Xeians at least.) But still good enough for almost everything. Speaking of which, each type of ship could be personal... But some types were simply rarely that.

Message Received.

Be aware I have retaken the Profiteer. I am about to confront the enemy that took my ship. I have set the auto destruct for 30 minutes. If I have not disposed of the enemy in that time clear out of the sector. The explosion will be significant.

What was the Telkran doing? She was quite sure she will be unharmed even when thee full thing explodes, having the shielding and being where she was... But... She had heard some of the lone warships exploded automatically when losing the whole population on board and having no other Xeians nearby... But what if the Telkran is not dead but it takes her longer than she expected? Perhaps there was always the chance to abort the command, but what if something goes wrong? Timed self-destruction, the Universe help her...
She didn't send anything, knowing how useless that would be. Better to stay here... Be invisible for the technology.

He was intelligent enough to figure out one of the wetlinks on his own. At least that explained how he was able to bypass many of the safety features. It still came down to her stupidity of not locking down the ship herself. His technology might not be advanced but his cunning was laudable. “So, you are that golden mist I saw earlier. Usually masters send their servants to fight, while they themselves remain behind their ship’s armor. Yet you do not. You have my respect for that."

"My respect goes to you as well for having the temerity to steal such a 'unique' vessel as my own, but your challenge will be, can you keep it?" She liked his style, but he had a few things to learn about Telkran shape-shifters. She made a grave error, but there was no way he was leaving with the Profiteer. He just didn't know all the facts yet. She had a window of opportunity to resolve this or die. For some reason the tension was making her feel more alive than she ever had before.

“But you and your servant’s threats are premature. The hunt is not yet over, you do not yet dictate when I live or die. Let us decide it now!”

Just as he finished speaking he tossed one of two disruptors at her feet. She sighed, looking down at the weapon. She hated disruptors. "Ship, close the airlock between our vessels." Complying. Countdown to self destruct at twenty-nine minutes and counting. There was really no sense in picking up the disruptor, she reached behind her and was about to pull out her temporal-chrono blaster when his disruptor blast hit. There was not even time to curse before her particles filtered to the floor. She lay unconscious for a few seconds before her triggering mechanism kicked in. Perhaps if she laid there feigning death he would come to examine her supposed remains.
Countdown to self destruct at twenty-eight minutes and counting.

At first, there was nothing, just another piece of the empty space, stars visible in the distance but otherwise nothing. Then, with a glorious explosion of an incredible surge of light, the Rey del los Muerte slowed down to below the speed of light again and appeared, the impulse-engine giving off powerful bursts of energy to slow the ship down from the extreme speeds it had just been at and to more managable ones, and once the Rey was down at only a few hundred miles per hour, the impulse-engine turned off entirely again and the fusion-rockets re-ignited. Melai grabbed a hold of the T-stick back in the cockpit as the navigational computer returned the control of the ship to him, and the text "ARRIVED AT THE DESTINATION" appeared on one of the monitors. Inside the ship, vision once again returned to normal, and Melai steered the Rey towards where Zet'kil's coordinates claimed she were - it seemed to be just nearby.

When Melai received Lya's message, however, his enthuiasm of finally having gotten to where the action was cooled instantly at the thought of Lya not only killing herself in that blast, but eradicating an entire sector! There could be Imperial colonies around here, colonies with innocent people that would die in an instant because some gutless thief had stolen the wrong ship? No matter what, Melai could not accept that.
"Zet'kil, do you hear me?" Melai spoke into his microphone, hoping that Zet'kil's so much more advanced ship could still receive radio-waves, "Where is Lya? We've got to help her if... Holy shit, un-fucking-believable!" Melai cried out the last sentence, his right hand automatically moving to his chest and clutching where his heart would be, as an incredible pain suddenly shot through him. It felt like... well, it felt like he was being torn apart, and for a few seconds, his mind ceased to function at all, before he managed to recover and turn his attention back towards the microphone and his message to Zet'kil.
"Sorry... I'm... I'm fine," he said, gasping for air, "But... we've still got to help Lya! Do you know... where she his?"

---

"Good to hear, Captain," Reed nodded at Emerson, "Then your assignment will be to support the invasion as an orbital bomber. Do not deploy ground troops until ordered to do so, but feel free to send in all the Hunters available. Spread out and surround Earth, but stay out of the atmosphere, or the Farters will try to take you down before the assault has already begin. The assault will begin in 40 minutes - that should give everyone plenty of time to get into position and make the necessary preparations. Oh, and for the rest of you," the Admiral turned to the other captains, "Once an area is clear and you go to the surface to send in ground troops, make sure to send in Beholders to scan the landing area first! We've already lost two battlecruisers because they forgot to scan the ground and a Crukon had dug itself a tunnel there so it could grab the battlecruiser and make it crash. Battlecruisers aren't cheap! I don't care about your worthless hides, but take care of those ships!"

"Once the assault begins, we will maintain contact through a secure channel, but we will not be able to have holographic conversations. Any questions?"

One of the numerous panels there was a notice of the Rey de los Muerte was closing in. The Xeian standing nearby was thinking hard for a possible best course of action. She was interrupted though, when the ship announced some kind of signal being received from the Rey, which was possible to be translated back into the original verbal message. Why didn't he use the link instead, but some kind of signal that was commonly not used for communication in Xeian society... At least they already knew humans used that, otherwise she would have lost at least a few seconds to re-translation.

"Zet'kil, do you hear me?"
"Yes." At least the ship was rather blending in that question. When messages sent in such a way could be received and deciphered then those could also be sent.
"Where is Lya? We've got to help her if... Holy shit, un-fucking-believable!"
"Melai?!" Zet'kil asked on an instant, alerted, "What...?" She asked, wondering what had happened, if not worried.
"Sorry... I'm... I'm fine," the Xeian didn't think he was but asked no questions about it. "But... we've still got to help Lya! Do you know... where she is?"

"Yes... She is in my sight range, coordinates given... With that the Xeian made a quick motion with her hand to signal her ship to send the location of the other ship. She has also given the codes for her hatch lock, we could dock and enter her ship if needed. I don't know what she is intending to do... Right now I am trying to think out what to do to prevent the explosion if something went wrong... So it won't kill either any of us or her, or anyone else randomly around. The question is that I don't know if my ship was powerful enough for any of that...To either power down her ship or null the energy from the explosion, if I don't come up with anything better by then... The first should be easier. We could also simply board her ship and try to do something there, Lya should be on her own ship along with the thief if the scanners don't lie. The Xeian watched the screen which had the information accessible for the scanners displayed on it. For a second or two Lya's figure had flickered. She hoped it was something disrupting her sensors instead of something happening to Lya... Although the first was improbable.
