Once the elevator reached ground level, Melai rushed out of it and out of the Omnichange headquarters and sprinted back towards the spaceport as fast as his legs could carry him, storming past the citizens of Terra Gamma - some of which seemed to wonder why there were lying dead people scattered across the main square, yet no one seemed to remember how they died - without dedicating a single thought to the risk that Retzaan had not yet handled everything and someone could still try to kill him. But it did not matter much to Melai - because without the Rey, he was doomed anyways. Fortunately, the Rey was still in place at the docking bridge at the spaceport when he got there, and seemed to be undamaged... or rather, no more damaged than it had been when he had left it. He leant towards the hull of his ship, relieved, as the others caught up with him... and Lya acted somewhat unusual, even for an alien, walking over to an empty space at the port and apparently staring at the nothingness as if it was the most fascinating thing in the world. It was not before she started accusing Talon of not having locked her ship properly that Melai realized why the nothingness was so interesting - because there was, in fact, supposed to be something there! Lya's ship! That was perhaps even worse than if it had been his own ship that had been destroyed or, in this case, stolen! The Rey mostly just had sentimental value, seeing that it had little use as a battleship with its poor armor plating and, until the Telkran had installed her shield, at least, a weak kinetic field around it, not to mention its low number of weak weaponry. It was a pirate vessel, after all, meant to be big enough to carry a lot of cargo and enough crew to board an enemy ship, yet be quick and maneveurable enough to catch up with the target to board it and, on occasion, flee for their lives. Lya's vessel, on the other hand... that was invaluable to any scientist or pilot in the Milky Way. Melai wanted to offer his opinion on what had happened here, but when he realized that her distress caused items all around her to levitate and fly around, much like they did whenever he got upset, he attempted to use his own powers to stabilize her surroundings and keep things immobile. Surprisingly enough, her magnetic fields seemed to interfere with his own, causing a splitting headache to explode inside his head, having him drop to his knees and cry out in agony. Never in his life had he felt like this before... but then again, he had never been around another telekinetic before either. No matter what the reason, all Melai could sense until Lya finally seemed to somehow 'deflate' was blinding pain, and afterwards, he had to spend a few minutes trying to get his mind back together after his thoughts had been scattered. "Lya," he panted, wiping the tears from his eyes as he stared at what he suspected was still the alien on the ground, "If you can hear me, you need to wake up... maybe we can still catch up with whoever took you ship and reclaim it. Does your ship leave any kind of trail we can follow?" |

Derth watched the hologram of empty space as the ship sped forward. He was eager to see this node genesis in action, perhaps a little too eager. But the course was set, and he signaled the Warg to turn all of its sensors on the captured ship. Grinning with anticipation, Derth got a small scanner from his tools, and ran to the engine room. He came before the magnificent sleek engine, and tried to scan and record as much as he could as it began node genesis. “Set the destination as, oh say 63.9x-08.8y-54.7z” Derth commanded. “Begin node genesis and fly into it whenever you are ready. Signal my ship to follow.” Immediately the ship responded, as power began coursing through the mighty engine. Energy flowed from the ship, gently creating a gap in space and glided in. The Warg followed close behind, and the gap closed after the two ships passed through. They were in a node line, an artificial node line, which was created as the ship flew through hyperspace. Despite his awe, caution crept into Derth’s mind. This was such a magnificent prize, he could not afford to loose it. And chances were that whoever owned such a ship would soon come looking for it. Derth looked at the engine again. “Computer, download a copy of the engine, weapon, and shield schematics to a hard copy,” Derth commanded. “Unable to comply. That data is restricted to other life forms,” The computer stated. “Fine then, we do this the hard way,” Derth snarled, leaving the engine room. He went out into the cargo bay and found a large crate full of useless trade goods and emptied it. He brought the crate back to the engine room, stopping to get the rest of his tools on the way. As the engine was coursing with powerful energies at the time, Derth decided to leave it alone. However, he used his translator device to find a storage room of spare components. Even this superb ship suffered mechanical failure from time to time. Derth came to the door to the storage room. It refused to open for him. Derth growled again, growing very frustrated with the restrictions upon this ship. Using his scanner, he found the wiring leading to the door’s mechanisms. To access the wiring, Derth used a laser cutter to take off the wall panel in front of the wiring. It didn’t take long for the panel to come loose. He used a scanner to pick out which wire went where, and began working on them to disable the locking mechanism. After a while, the door slid open. Derth wasted no time, but immediately began loading up the crate with engine components. When the crate was full, he took it out to where the planet buster once stood, emptied another crate of its contents, and took it back to the storage room and filled it up as well. Working quickly and diligently, he had half of the engine components loaded up and waiting in the cargo bay. He had also taken some of the shield and cloak generators and some of the wet links listed in the cargo manifest. The two ships reached the distant coordinates, and the captured ship neatly created another hole leading back into real space. Behind them, there was the expected field of stars. But ahead of them, there were but a few dim points of light. Derth had come to the edge of the galaxy, with only the light of distant galaxies shining ahead. One of them his distant home. He could not return just yet. The return trip would be hazardous, even with this marvelous prize. There was a chance that one ship or the other would be destroyed. Derth decided to split the prize between the two. Commanding that the cargo bay be opened again, Derth again signaled the Warg to draw alongside and launch its pod. This time, as the pod came into the cargo bay, it launched a net to ensnare the collected cargo. Derth took a moment to secure the net around all the containers, and let the Warg haul them back into it’s own cargo bay. Having completed this task, the Warg moved closer to the captured ship and docked with it again. Derth gathered up his tools and went back to his own ship. He still had some repairs to do before he began the perilous journey back to his own galaxy. |

"Lya, if you can hear me, you need to wake up... " A few of the golden particles sparked to life at the sound of Melai's voice. She had to wake up, but it was too awful to face. Better to just lie here and let the universe tread across her. Better to not think. Better to not be. She should never have come to this quadrant. She wished she could fly away and never look back. She couldn't even laugh in the face of this predicament. There was no 'everything will be fine'. Everything was the worst it could possibly be. Here she was stranded with a business partner that didn't trust her, and most likely just caused the worst possible disaster imaginable. Then beyond endurable, was she would now be at the mercy of a pirate who hated her. If that wasn't bad enough she had just sold herself to pay off 'his' debt. My how the mighty have fallen. Why wake up just to hear him laugh at her? He would probably think she deserved this. The thoughts all occurred in the nanosecond it took her electrons to fire, but still she didn't get up. She hoovered there listening tentatively to Melai, waiting for the ridicule that was sure to follow. She didn't want to endure the gloating look on his face on top of everything else. "...maybe we can still catch up with whoever took you ship and reclaim it. Does your ship leave any kind of trail we can follow?" The tone of his voice confused her. Why was there no laughter? In fact he sounded pained. Was he hurt? That was enough to spur her to activity. Melai must not be hurt! Particles sweeping together in an instant, she sat up in Lya form. Whatever had hurt him seemed to have stopped. "Why would you help me? This is the part where you are suppose to smirk and say I deserved it...isn't it?" Not until she looked in his eyes did it hit her, she had done this same thing to Melai. No wonder he hated her. That terrible ache returned. "I'm sorry Melai. If I made you feel like this when I took the jump drive..." She shook her head trying to dislodge the emotions, but they clung to her and sank in fangs. "I'm surprised you didn't dunk me in saline and have done with it. These emotions, do they get in the way of everything you do?" She wanted to wrest them out of herself. Go back to pleasure and anger.Tilting her head inquisitively she needed to verify that she heard him correctly. "After what I did to you, you are willing to help me?" She sat there looking stunned for a moment longer before answering. "Yes, if Zet'kil has knowledge of Palladium IV. She could track the ship. I don't think your sensors are capable of tracing the substance." |

When Lya awakened from her odd state of not-being-ness and stared at him in disbelief, Melai could not help himself but to smile at her, but for once, there was nothing spiteful in the grimace. "I might be an asshole, but I'm not heartless," he told her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder, "You did the same to me, and I know how important a ship can be when it is your most priced possession, and yours were even more to you than the Rey was for me. I know how it hurts. But you returned the Starjump-drive to me, and gave me back my ship. I know your pain, and now I want to relieve you from the pain you relieved me from. The trip to Earth can wait - we need to hunt down your ship and reclaim it!" Having said that, he stood up, suddenly realizing with himself that he had changed roles, as he had done several times in the past just before he had boarded an enemy ship. He changed from the selfish bastard of a pirate to a captain - a leader. The man that the Imperial fleet had wanted as their officer because of his telekinetic abilities, and because he was bright enough and willing to be a lawyer. "Zet'kil!" he called out with an authority that seemed alien in his voice, "You and I are heading to my ship! I'll open my cargo bay, and you will fly ahead, tracing Lya's ship, and the Rey will follow! Lya, Talon, Theyr... Shadow-Claw, you can do as you want. But the three of you come to the Rey de los Muerte! We're going to board and reclaim that proud vessel, even if it's the last thing we do!" |

Speaking of what was wrong, something was wrong with Melai too, but at least he seemed capable of regaining part of what he had been before rather quickly, despite of being... In pain? It was what it seemed like, at least. Lya on the ground was soon waking up, as she had hoped she will at some point do without even their aid. She was sitting up in her human shape again, even when she possibly was still stricken from the sudden absence of her ship. "My ship can track the substance you call Palladium IV when need be, and also give us the idea what was what took your ship with it, even with was cloaked as at least cloaking patters can be registered... I assume it was something armed, so we should better be careful when approaching the 'thief'." She said at the mentioning of the way Lya thought as most fool-proof way of tracking her own ship. Why, as she suspected Telkrans were a highly intelligent lifeforms with developed technology, hadn't they came to the simple idea of being constantly in contact with their ships like the Xeians thought natural, or at least make their ships recognize their owners, not letting anything besides them to touch them. She didn't even think of 'locking' her ship as it was secured from intruders even without it. "Zet'kil!" Melai's voice suddenly seemed different from what it was before. More demanding maybe, perhaps more authority, as one might expect from a person who really could give orders because of his position. "You and I are heading to my ship! I'll open my cargo bay, and you will fly ahead, tracing Lya's ship, and the Rey will follow! Lya, Talon, Theyr... Shadow-Claw, you can do as you want. But the three of you come to the Rey de los Muerte! We're going to board and reclaim that proud vessel, even if it's the last thing we do!" "I hope it is not." Zet'kil muttered, her voice low enough to no-one hear what exactly had she said, even if anyone noticed her saying something at all. "I hope they are not in the other end of the Universe already... Gicen that we don't know the exact capabilities of our... 'enemy' yet."She said out loud, as she moved towards the Rey, considering all the possibilities in her head, even before she bothered with asking her own ship anything. "I am afraid that there even might be places the Rey is unable to reach... So all we can do is to hope they are still in the galaxy. Which comes to... Melai, how fast is the absolute maximum speed the Rey can reach? I think it is better when when we don't need to cross the limits of your ship or try to co-tunnel-jump or something like that. Though it is possible to try almost anything, when you are determined enough in your decision to get the Telkran's ship back at all costs." She continued her explanations as she finally got a chance to walk up to her small ship after Melai had opened the cargo bay. "Anyone willing to come with me? As I am likely be the first who would sight the ship belonging to Lya D'vahl." She asked, lightly touching the surface of her ship and stirring it to life, as the 'legs' it had been standing on vanished leaving nothing but the smooth surface, at the same time when the 'door' on the ship's side slided to the side again, baring up the rectangular opening, without any visible signs of the panel which had literally just disappeared in the ship's side. |

"As far as I know, the studies that the Empire has made into Starjumps states that there is no known top limit to what the drive can accelerate the ship to, given the chance to create enough impulse-bursts, but all Starjump-drives developed by Imperial scientists, such as mine is, has a speed-limiter installed that prevents it from going any faster than 525600 times the speed of light... in other words, exactly one LY (Light Year) per minute," he told the Xeian, "I could try to disable the speed-limiter, but I'm not sure how long it'd take, or if it's even possible, and if I disabled it... I'm not sure what could happen at all. The IMM-field might not be able to sustain that high speeds, or I could accidentially jump to another galaxy, or even worse, into an empty void between galaxies. I can't risk that." He quickly ran over to the Rey and typed in the password, having the door slide open instantly to allow them all passage. Somehow, Melai realized, this felt different than when he was motivating his old crews just before initiating an attack on a trading-ship or a weak Imperial vessel. Usually, Melai was just filled with an unusual amount of energy and good mood, although his mood quickly changed in that state, because of the adrenaline, but this... right now, he felt kind of good. He wondered why? Just a moment ago, his head had felt like it had been stepped on by a crukon, after all. "Come on, come on!" he shouted eagerly, "The longer we wait, the more of a headstart the thief gets!" |

"I might be an asshole, but I'm not heartless." As he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, she was unable to continue looking at him. She realised she 'had' been heartless. Standing there telling him that she had 'only taken his jump drive', all the while feeling pleasure at his misfortune. Suddenly she wanted to run, hide from what she had done. She had said she was sorry, but now she truly felt it in its entirety, to the core of her being. Though she didn't understand these emotions yet, she decided to do her best to help Melai. Not because it would in some way benefit her, but because she wanted to see him happy. She stood up with him, noticing a subtle change in his posture and countenance. He seemed sure of himself, and right now she needed stability. Until she had her ship back, she was vulnerable. Her life was at stake. It was a criminal act to loose such technology, unforgivable. Even if she got her vessel back, some things would never be the same for her. Just the fact that it had happened in the first place, would be enough to list her forever among the infamous of her people. While her claim on the quadrant would make her rich, this mistake had indelibly tainted her character. If she returned home she would be shunned. Lya would have to remain here, away from Telkrans, keeping her secret. Any future merging with one of her own kind was out of the question. However, so long as she didn't merge, the minor crime, her act of negligence need not be found out...IF they got her ship back. When Melai called their names to join him on his ship, her thoughts turned to Talon. She was going to have to make the most out of life here now. It was all she had left. Sure Talon didn't trust her, but when it came down to it, the fault of her unlocked ship still fell to her. She should have been paying attention. Again she cursed these silly 'feelings'. "Talon, I was panicked when I accused you of leaving the ship open. The fault was my own, you are not to blame. I don't know what came over me. I probably am the fool you take me for." Apology made, she turned to head after Melai. Listening attentively as he talked to Zet'kil about his drives, she wished she had her ship to help upgrade his. The irony of the situation brought forth a nervous titter of laughter. When he opened the door, she noticed, he appeared almost happy. She had not seen him look content before. It felt like he didn't hate her. That clenching in her chest was gone, even with the loss of her ship looming over her. "Come on, come on! The longer we wait, the more of a head start the thief gets!" While the others caught up, she reached for Melai's hand. Eyes fixed earnestly on his, she spoke from the place where a heart should be...if she had one. It certainly felt as if there were something there. Deciding there was no need to burden him with the knowledge of the damage that had already been done, she spoke quietly. "Thank you Melai. This means everything to me." She squeezed his hand then let it go. Before she could say any more her throat clenched tight. Though she tried to maintain a false smile for his benefit, her lower lip began to quiver. Not again! Quickly she turned away concealing the now familiar moisture as it began falling, only to rejoin her form as it hit her feet. She suddenly felt very out of place in a huge universe, cut off and alone. Over her shoulder she asked, "Is there anything I can do to help?" |

Theyr spit out in contempt when she saw the Telkran’s reaction when they found the stolen ship. She had understood a while ago that spaceships were quite important to technologically more developed – or better, truncated to pure artificial technology instead of having trust in the own strength and skills. She had noticed Melai’s feelings when he had found the Rey damaged; and Zet’kil’s solidarity to her ship could not be overlooked. However, how Lya had let herself go right now was just pathetic. Theyr herself knew what to do with someone assaulting her belongings. Despairing was not among her list. Instead there could be found a few activities involving sharp blades, ropes of middle length, a few pails of water and a target. "Zet'kil! You and I are heading to my ship! I'll open my cargo bay, and you will fly ahead, tracing Lya's ship, and the Rey will follow! Lya, Talon, Theyr... Shadow-Claw, you can do as you want. But the three of you come to the Rey de los Muerte! We're going to board and reclaim that proud vessel, even if it's the last thing we do!" Theyr’s lips buckled in disgust when she heard the order. However, the only other reaction was a morose nod and an annoyed clicking of her tongue. As little as she liked the idea of visiting the planet of origin of her race; the idea of a delay because of an alien not able to take care of her belongings pleased her even less. She crossed over to Lya and Melai, a testy expression on her face. “Stop the canting and get moving”, she mumbled towards the now sniveling Telkran with a voice showing all her disgust despite of the low volume. “At the moment you don’t even seem to be worth a fuckin nutshell.” |

"One LY per minute..." Zet'kil repeated half-voice "Minutes were... 60 seconds and those were... Something with cesium... Now why have every single race have their own systems for measuring time? Anyway... After our own standard it makes... Yes." She fell silent for a second or two. "That speed limit doesn't indeed allow very quick traveling, as even reaching the other end of the galaxy would take quite a time. Very long time actually. But after all, you humans don't yet deal with any intergalactic traveling, not to speak about doing it constantly... I am quite unused that the actual dealing with greater distances has got something to do with time and speed myself, as we found a way round that. Or rather through it to be more precise, even when we don't mess with that 'subspace' some races do. More than possibly, our 'thief' was one of those who do, as I don't think that it was a human who did this. At least they leave marks traveling this way, so they are easier to follow than ships which use tunnel-jump or simply speeds faster than light. Although I have not a single idea yet where did this one go... We can find out, so it can be solved quickly enough." She tapped absent-mindedly on the hull of her ship, as she had already walked in the cargo hold. "But better not to worry about how could your ship travel faster than it does now and what will happen in that case, before we know how things are. Setting up a connection between would be a good idea though? This way we won't lose each other even one of us was indeed forced to jump somewhere in the middle of nowhere." "Is there anything I can do to help?" "I have no clear ideas... But you as a person who know your ship might be useful, especially when the ship still has some means of identifying you. You can come with me if you wish." She chose to ignore Theyr this time, which, given Zet'kil's ability to not notice things she didn't want to notice for one reason or another, was as good as she hadn't even heard the insectoid talking- most of her speech had been unimportant anyway, as those were mostly insults, and none of those touched her. But she would have cared about as much when those were indeed directed at her. |

Shadow Claw was completely frozen with the events that had happened before him. Lya had gone in shock because someone had stolen her ship, turning herself to turn into the golden particles that he had met before. The Silencer was very annoyed. Not with anyone within the group. He was annoyed with the thief. They had stolen something that had belonged to his contractor, and she needed her ship. This annoyance was fueling his determination. And his temper. When Melai had given out orders for what the group should do, the insectoid gladly agreed. "Zet'kil! You and I are heading to my ship! I'll open my cargo bay, and you will fly ahead, tracing Lya's ship, and the Rey will follow! Lya, Talon, Theyr... Shadow-Claw, you can do as you want. But the three of you come to the Rey de los Muerte! We're going to board and reclaim that proud vessel, even if it's the last thing we do!" The insectoid turned, and walked towards his ship, opening the door. “I have two options here. I can follow Zet’kil, and track this pitiful thief down, and force him to give your ship back. Or… I can follow you, and defend your ship from any attackers we may face.” He waited for his answer, when the second insectoid snapped at Melai and Lya. Shadow Claw growled, until he had heard the second thing that she had said. He snarled at the Scorpio, and started to walk towards the group, murder within his eyes. It was one thing to snap at one’s commander, but it was another when someone offends a mercenary’s contractor. “At the moment you don’t even seem to be worth a fuckin nutshell.” The Silencer bumped the Scorpio, and snapped his claws open. His glowing red eyes glared down at the insectoid, showing that he was not impressed. “If you want to keep your fucking head, insectoid… I suggest that you keep your mouth shut. You should NEVER say anything nasty about my contractor. Ever…” He said the last sentence with a snarl, and had the full maliciousness that he had with him. His claws gleamed with the light that was around the asteroid. Once he had finished saying what he had to say, he took one, menacing step closer towards Theyr. |
