The Howling Warg reached the node line head. Working the controls quickly, Derth activated the node bore on his ship. On its armored surface, several ports opened up, revealing energy projectors. They focused on the weakened spot in space, and begin flooding energy into the node line head. Soon, an dimentional barrier was breached, and a glowing rift opened up, and expanded large enough to accommodate the Warg and its captured prize. The engines lit, and gently guided the ship into the rift and into the node line. The two ships emerged into a chaotic looking blue tunnel, the node line. Behind them the rift closed, and the Warg sped forward through the node line. It wasn’t long before the two ships came to the end of the node line. Again the projectors opened up and focused on a weak portion of the line. Another rift formed, permitting the Warg to reenter real space. As the rift closed behind him again, Derth scanned his surroundings. He was in deep space, many light years from Terra Gamma, near a nebula of hydrogen gas and dust. He smiled, fortune had favored him again. That nebula would help to hide his presence from prying eyes. He piloted a course into the nebula, hiding among it’s wispy gasses. In the meanwhile, he wanted to look into his new prize. Under his command, his ship extended a docking tube to the airlock of the captured ship. To be safe, he suited up in an environmental shield, and brought his firearm and a container of tools. Floating through the gravity free tube, pulling himself by means of handholds, he came to the airlock of the other ship. Again, it opened obediently, and Derth pulled himself in. His feet hit the deck plating once he came within the airlock and it’s field of gravity. Holding his container, he waited as the airlock closed and cycled the air, and then opened a door leading into the ship. Derth walked forward, looking around himself. He found himself in a cargo storage area of sorts, with numerous containers. He walked among these, occasionally pausing to open one or two to see their contents. Some were useless items of trade, baubles and trinkets, but many promised a rich reward, once he returned them to the rebuilders. To his annoyance, a few of the compartments refused to open for him. Irritated, he made a mental note to take a plasma cutter to them later. One container that did open contained a dozen small devices, which looked like they could fit around one side of the neck. Intrigued, Derth ran a scanner over them to translate the alien writing on them. All he got was ‘wet link’. Annoyed, Derth continued. The cargo bay gave way to what he assumed was the control room. However, despite how much he looked, he could find no controls to decipher, or any data links to hack into. He snarled in annoyance, and made to leave. However he paused. Something was speaking, repeating the same sentence of alien words over and over. Derth brought up his translator again and set it to audio. A voice in his language echoed “Wet link required for control interface.” After thinking about it a moment, Derth ran back to the container of wet links. Picking up one, he looked at it dubiously, and scanned it. However, the temptation to use this new technology was strong, and he eventually wondered how he was to use it. Experimentally, he held it up to his neck about how it would go. The wet link responded. Before Derth could react, it sent small filaments through his fur and into his skin. He grunted in pain as the filaments wound through his neck and connected into his central nervous system. A piercing pain shot through his neck and up and down his spine, but only for a moment. As quickly as it came, the pain left. A voice spoke to his mind, bypassing the language barrier altogether. Adaption complete. Wet link online. Rife with anticipation, Derth returned to the computer room. For a while, there was no response, but soon, and another voice spoke in his mind, in his native tongue. Language files updated. User identified. Awaiting command. Derth grinned again. This was a very fine prize indeed. |

Damn that woman and her attitude, she would walk in front of him while he was trying to conduct negotiations and then attempt to make his negotiations with him. It appeared however that when the mind spoke again it was including them all, and that she had struck some kind of bargain. It appeared that his demands would go unheard because she had butted in ahead of him, unable to wait the proper amount of time and conduct negotiations successfully. Somehow he didn't feel like Lya could have gotten the best possible bargain with so short a discussion. He really was in the company of a gaggle of fools, most of whom where at best neutrally inclined to him. Better yet many of them seemed to hate him, which would be a problem come negotiations, but he wasn't trying to negotiate with them, they still managed to fuck with his negotiations though. Still trying to hold the attention of the strange Mind he stepped forward again. He didn't like being shut out of negotiations by a woman who apparently didn't care for his ability to bargain. " So does this mean you refuse to tell us what it is that you are sending us to find? On top of that maybe more specific conditions should be set before anyone goes anywhere. I think we would be better off knowing what we can expect on the surface of Earth." |

"I mourn that which may have been but will never be." "Stupidity is a wound that bleeds forever; Intelligence is a blade that stays forever sharp" "An armed man will kill and unarmed man with monotonous regularity" "Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghillie suit." "You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it." "Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, 'cause it's going to be empty." | |

A most excellent observation, mr. Talon, Retzaan admitted, Yes, we refuse to tell you what you are going there to obtain for us because you need not to know, since the one of us you are taking with you will tell you what you need to bring back. Knowing what we need would only distract you from the mission, so please try not to give it too much thought... All we will reveal is that it will help Omnichange reach its ultimate goal. When Retzaan paused, a ripple went through the body of ants, and suddenly the window that took up the entire back wall seemed to come alive... and it took a moment before Melai realized that it was just a holo-picture, showing some planet seen from space. A planet that was mostly blue, but also had a few green and gray spots... wait, could that be...? We were born here, but for those of you that has never seen the Blue Planet, this is Earth, the Mind told them, Of course we will tell you some specifics of what you will encounter once you get there. As you might have figured out by now, the problem is not the war between my brethren insectoids and the Empire, or we would have gone to Earth ourselves to retrieve the device. The issue that brings the need of outside help up is that the ruins of the facility in which the device was developed is here - at the exact moment Retzaan projected the word 'here', a glowing cross appeared on the map behind him. - which happens to be outside of insectoid territory, in an area that has been reclaimed by nature and turned into a wild jungle. A slight problem has arisen with that location, since only the less civilized insectoids choose to live there... especially Oris and the more feral of the arachids. And even more distressing, other species make that place their home as well. Melai thought about the last statement for a moment, the one about other species. Although Melai had never thought about that there were other creatures inhabiting Earth than the insectoids, it did make sense when he thought about it. He had read about Earth in the past, and he remembered that somewhere it had been mentioned that there were billions and more billions of animal races on the planet. It would have been odd if nothing but the insectoids remained. These creatures are wild and brutal, and does not listen to reason, nor allow our powers to manipulate them. The radiation humanity left on Earth, which turned us insectoids into the advanced species we are today, mutated the other creatures horribly... and we fear that the facility is one of the places that these creatures mass, for whatever reason. Retzaan paused, and the holo-picture zoomed in on the surface of the planet, now showing a quite enlarged picture of an area that was completely filled with tall vegetation. Then the picture moved to the side and onto the area just outside of the jungle, where the fearsome sight of uncountable insectoids met them, amongst these there even were many Crukons and the horrifying Farters, and two Crossers even seemed to be resting there. You won't be able to land in the jungle, of course, and our brethren insectoids will not look kindly upon your intrusion. They will attempt to shoot you down, and once you land, they will try to kill you. And you will fight back... sacrifices must be made for the greater cause of Omnichange. So... did that clarify the specifics of what you will encounter? |

She was pleased with the agreement, and a secret smile tickled the corners of her mouth. Retzaan didn't know why she needed Melai? Then he couldn't penetrate her hidden places. The place she had walled off even from Talon. It was done, she had what she wanted. She would tell Talon once they were outside, just what deal had been struck. She wished he would learn to trust her abilities. She had after all shown him her intent, opened her mind to him, protected him from all harm. He had to know if she was in the Mind's thoughts he could not deceive her. Retzaan could tell Talon anything, and there would be no proof. By her touching Retzaan, she was able to see as well as be seen...except for the secret place. No he hadn't seen there. When the screen lit up with images of earth, she nodded in approval. Rainforests were fine, bugs were fine. Her ship might be able to get the group past those obstacles. At least it was dry land. It wasn't like she was going to a saline-water planet. The thought had her electrons twitching. The only thing that truly scared her...salt water. "These obstacles are not something that can't be overcome with stealth and careful planning." She turned behind her to see a pained look on Shadow Claw, even though the medics were attending to him,"Shadow Claw? Are you okay?... Do you want out of our bargain? This goes beyond what you were contracted to do. I would not expect you to to fight your own species? You were hired to protect us from mercenaries, and the Imperials, not to invade a planet." Then her attention turned to Melai, "I will not work for credits, instead I have arranged for 'all' your debts to be paid for my participation in this venture. I do not understand about the virgins, but Retzaan assured me they will be forgotten." Her head tilted slightly, wondering if he would enlighten her. There were so many mysteries here, why was he reluctant to explain? Perhaps he would be not so busy soon, and would tell her. |

Conditions. Yes, those were the things they should know about before going anywhere from here. Finally she had noticed Talon talking, perhaps mostly because Retzaan had addressed him directly as he began sending the mental messages to them again. But she'd rather still want to know what they were going to obtain. It would be a rather funny surprise when it turned out to be something she could just as easily have ordered from the Union. And to risk her... Their lives because of some thing which was literally in the reach of her four hands anyway... That was more than just nonsense. But why wouldn't he tell anyway? Did he really think that they thinking what it would be would distract them, or her, more than knowing it? Or rather, wondering why he didn't want to tell... There is still one question she can ask. "What is the ultimate goal of Omnichange?" she asked. Her voice would have indicated the fact that she was a little irritated for another Xeian, but she doubted any of her companions did- the change was small and it didn't mach that of humans in the same mental state. As for Retzaan... From him she couldn't hide her thoughts right now anyway. When the holo-picture appeared, she focused on that instead. Planet. Perhaps the one they had been talking about earlier, the Earth. The place both common races here had originally descended from. Blue was the dominating color... Possibly water, 'which' was safe. Both like that and when taken apart to the atoms it consisted of. The additional minerals in it could be a problem depending on the consistence of the land there, but these were a few and she was not likely to actually drink the water anyway. Green... Most likely chlorophyllic near-motionless lifeforms, plants of some sorts... Gray was most likely different minerals- 'rocks'. It did look rather different on their own original planets. (Not counting the numerous ones her race had inhabited or created later.) Their were mostly different shades of metallic gray, and then some random greenish-blue stripes and splotches- which were not the equivalent of plants... Those were what the few red spots stood for, even if both the process, build and appearance of those largely differed from the 'green plants'. 'Here' was on the green spot. There were some feral races and also, more hostile insectoids... Bad, but perhaps they can cope with it. (When mentioning brutal and uncaring races brought up the images of Kiylamire again. The large, headless, acidic hexapods, who possessed some mind-controlling abilities... Even worse, their technology was rather developed.) But likely none of those there, the place was not the best for those, from all what she knew. So... did that clarify the specifics of what you will encounter? "Mostly. And what is the goal Omnichange wants, still?" She asked again, her voice back to almost normal, even when some traces of her thoughts about the matter still lingered in her head. She caught what Lya said to Melai- "I will not work for credits, instead I have arranged for 'all' your debts to be paid for my participation in this venture. I do not understand about the virgins, but Retzaan assured me they will be forgotten." Possibly the lifeform really liked Melai, when she struck such kind of a bargain... And what is that with forgotten virgins? Well, she did knew what the word as a word meant, since they had got to know human language, but she could not help but to wonder what that 'problem' with them was. 'They will be forgotten', not 'they will forget' had Lya said... And when he had killed them, why not just 'other humans'? |

It took a second for Melai to fully realize that Lya what the terms of the service that Lya had agreed on actually were, and that, at least the part she told about, they were mainly meant to aid him and make his life more likely to continue. He was, in a lack of better words, stunned. The Telkran, one of the most incarnate merchants he had ever met, had worked conditions into the deal that were meant specifically for him, when she could have gotten so much else that could have helped her trading-business? Perhaps Melai had to take his opinion of the Telkran and merchants in general up to reconsideration... although he doubted it would change anything. He was a pirate, with his home amongst the stars, and hating traders simply was just easier in his business. "Well, err," Melai said, scratching his chin thoughtfully, "Thank you, I think. I'll be a lot easier to make a living when it's only the Empire and their bounty hunters I have to worry about, and not my fellow outlaws as well. As for the virgin part... once again, I'll explain later, at the same time as the pants-thing. Some things just need to be spoken of at the right time and place, or it's absurd." With a slight ripple through his form, Retzaan turned to Zet'kil. Of course I shall enlighten you about the purpose of Omnichange, it is no secret, after all. As we told you when we first encountered you, we detest violence in all ways, both physical and mental. It is the grand goal of Omnichange to stop violence from tearing apart the universe, from turning brethren against each other and causing living organisms to hurt and kill each other. The ultimate goal of Omnichange... is to end all wars. And we shall. We will bring the perfect peace to all galaxies... and the day of our succes draws near. Your help will aid us greatly in our progress - believe us, although we cannot tell you what you are going to salvage from Earth, know that it will bring us far closer to our goal... for the good of the universe. |

"As for the virgin part... once again, I'll explain later, at the same time as the pants-thing. Some things just need to be spoken of at the right time and place, or it's absurd." Another thing that is not explained. Maybe those things she didn't quite understand were all connected in some way. -Wait, didn't he mention 'wife-stealing' before? Possibly that too was connected to it all. She should add it to the list in her head in that case. It was highly unlikely it was what it sounded like to her- capturing certain female humans, putting them into boxes and storing them in his ship to sell them later. That most obviously was not that. (She actually did not have a clear idea what marriage meant, other than that was a some kind of stronger official connection between two humans of opposite genders. -After all she was an alien to human world.) But she forgot the matter for an unknown time when Retzaan again spoke to her, answering her question. Of course I shall enlighten you about the purpose of Omnichange, it is no secret, after all. As we told you when we first encountered you, we detest violence in all ways, both physical and mental. "We have never turned against our own race, and so have many other races, except for, it seems, humans, and some of the others also... It is usually the different races who didn't seem to get along in any way." She commented. "All Galaxies you... Say?" She was not sure if the word 'say' was correct in that case, as the insectoid, despite of using words, didn't actually talk but rather sent his thoughts to them or something like that. "That would be extremely hard to accomplish, the setting the full Universe at peace that is." She said, thinking over the numerous races and groups of races inhabiting the Universe... Apparently she was unable to say even the exact number of Xeians... Because there were too many and the numbers climbed upwards very fast. Some said there even was more than one universe... But that merely a theory, a hypotheses. "I, of course have not the faintest idea how you intend to make it reality, since I have no idea what is what we are going to obtain... And you don't explain either. Hopefully it is not just controlling everyone's actions." She didn't think he would want to destroy all to get peace, as it would be more than just violence, but controlling those who were killers by nature seemed reasonable enough- not that she'd think it was even close to being right, as she had her own opinion on all mind-controlling, and the Mind's seemingly friendly intentions were not going to tilt her opinion that easily. |

We can, Retzaan simply told the Xeian, And we will. This meeting is over, we have told you what you need to know, and as we converse, we are taking care of Melai's debt. Now go... and bring us the artifact from Earth! With that, Retzaan's body of ants dissolved, all of the little bugs spreading out across the entire room and crawling into every crack and airduct, and soon, all that was left of Retzaan was the single winged ant on Melai's hand, which continued to stare at him with its relatively big, round insect eyes. "Well," Melai said with a shrug, "I guess we're headed to Earth next, then. Who's coming?" (Hmm I'm going to need to know... Attila, you have not posted for a long time. Are you still playing here, or must I represent the Empire myself?) |

Sighing Talon simply stepped forward and waved his guards to do the same. It looked like they would be going along for the ride, he didn't really have anything better to do and he was sure he wasn't going to stay on this planet for long. The seven with him should be plenty for a personal escort, anymore and he might as well skip his way to bringing an entire company along and be ready for anything, but no he would be fine the way it was. Perhaps he would be able to stop by Lya's ship on the way back and re-equip them with something more efficient than the piecemeal armor they were currently wearing. " I'll go with you of course, I don't have anywhere else to go and you'll probably find my mercenaries useful on a more than potentially hostile planet." Secretly he harbored doubts about this Omnichange and it's ultimate goal. From what he could tell this Mind believed in subjugating it's allies with mental force. Which in a way would be complete piece, mostly because free will would cease to exist as everyone became a mindless drone for that creature. He couldn't be sure but if he could figure out what was going on he wasn't about to let himself be controlled by a bug of any sort. Let alone a sentient mass of ants. |

((Attila said he will be posting later today)) A smile popped on her face when Melai thanked her. She had no idea why it made her happy, just that it did. Again he said he would explain things later, she would just have to be patient. Talon made his agreement to go with the others to Earth, and she had made hers before Melai had even asked. As she walked out the door toward the elevator she linked her arm through Talons, and leaning in close whispered, "We have the monopoly on the entire asteroid of Terra Gamma. I wanted to link with Retzaan to make sure he told the truth. Nothing gets sold on this asteroid that doesn't come from us. Now how about we get back to the ship. I want to grab some shields for Melai and Shadow Claw." Right at that moment a beam of light and an explosion shook the building. She could see the crumbling mass of a weapons platform through the window. "Hmm, someone must be trying to get away with something. Glad it doesn't concern us for once. I've had my share of disasters for one day." Turning back, "Melai, I need a brief rest at my ship before we get underway. If anyone wants shields or weapons stop by on the way to the Rey." She stepped into the elevator... |
