The English Kitty Ninja
Shadow Claw had followed the group inside the building, following the Mind that was in charge of the place. Even if the insectoid was the most powerful being in Terra Gamma, the Silencer had a nasty feeling about him. But that was his nerves in confronting a powerful insect in person, and one which is probably impossible for him to defeat, if anything bad came from the Mind. I would have to keep my eye on this one. He thought, looking out for possible enemies. His shoulder was starting to ache, the wound starting to get infected. He had misjudged the severity of the injury, and he must bear it. The green goo that was underneath the exoskeleton still oozed out, with some of it hardening. As they ascended the tower, he started to feel lightheaded, the injury taking the toll on his huge frame. His vision started to go blurry, trying his best to keep his concentration.

As they reached their destination, the Mind had formed himself on the chair, resembling a humanoid. Damn Minds! Always eager to take a form of something else. He thought to himself, as he walked into the room. Both of his arms went limp, the pain starting to affect them both. He heard the accusations that the insectoid was making against Melai. He wanted to help the pirate out, but in his state, he didn’t bother. Then, after the accusation was complete, the Mind Retzaan had offered the group nourishment and something to drink. Shadow Claw wanted to get something to eat, so that he can get energy, but he was unable to move.

The Redneck, the Cynic, the Nerd, and the Hopeless Romantic

With his mercenaries spread out in a defensive position around him the former Talon simply watched and listened for the most part. Little of this directly affected him, he was just tagging along for the most part. Eventually the conversation moved to food, and the sight of the mind eating made talon a little queasy. It was strange for something to be made up of multiple beings yet still act as one, and the thought of the tiny ants touching him made his skin crawl as if to mimic the Mind.

However when the topic turned to business he actually started to pay attention, despite the fact that he himself was not eating he had ordered his mercenaries to do so. Standing amongst them it wouldn't seem so strange for him to not be eating, or it might not make that fact about him so noticeable.
It seemed that this creature wanted something from them, more specifically something from Melai, but what that was he didn't have a clue. He didn't know much about insectoid politics but he still didn't understand what it would be that he could obtain yet they couldn't.

This creature was shrewd though, this little quest was obviously not going to be something simple, or easy. He would have told them what he wanted to begin with in that case, instead of trying to get them to agree to his deal without telling them what they would be doing.
As the only one who seemed to have a level business head Random felt the need to step forward at that point. It was simply too important that he stay alive to let Melai do any bargaining.
" Good sir, allow me to introduce myself, I am Random. I would say that acquiring anything for you depends heavily on what it is you expect us to acquire. We can't just go agreeing to things without knowing what it is we are looking for. Aside from that I think it would be best if you were clearer about how worth my while this is going to be. I think perhaps if anyone is even going to consider this more careful consideration should be taken into all aspects of this bargain. You want us to fetch something for you, not the other way around."
"I mourn that which may have been but will never be."

"Stupidity is a wound that bleeds forever; Intelligence is a blade that stays forever sharp"

"An armed man will kill and unarmed man with monotonous regularity"

"Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghillie suit."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, 'cause it's going to be empty."

I want, I can, I do
We wish to make a transaction, to buy something, but the item we crave is not something that is currently in your possession, and not something that can be obtained anywhere - which is why we need you to obtain this object for us so that we may buy it from you. Tea and cookies?
Zet'kil moved her head slightly up and down a few times, in a motion that almost resembled a nod, in attempt to show that she understood what the insectoid was saying and agreed with it. At least as far as she knew, the motion meant something of that kind, and she hoped she was not mistaken. Still, it appeared a little awkward, as that was a move her race didn't use.

The last sentence, which she managed to identify as a question, had nothing to do with the previous topic. What did that mean now? She even managed to give a glance at the table, as if expecting it to be covered with mentioned things, before the doors opened and another load of Retzaan's 'servants' walked in- and they were really carrying mentionable amounts of what the Xeian suspected to be those 'tea and cookies' she didn't know whether she can eat. Those things were placed in various smaller containers and 'bowls' and placed on somethings that somehow even resembled the floating things Xeians sometimes used- only here things were not so likely to float. She thought she managed to identify the metal as one which was not so common on the planets humans inhabited- perhaps it was quite valuable.

She watched- despite the fact she still didn't feel entirely comfortable to be that close to such a powerful telepath- curiously how the insectoid consumed the full bowlful of cookies in a matter of seconds
Ah, heavenly. Please, have some. We had our chef make extra just for you, and she would take it as a personal insult if you were to deny even tasting it, so, are you interested in acquiring the said item for us? We can make it worth your while, we assure you.
"I trust you I would like to try some of those, but I really wouldn't risk eating a thing I am not sure what does to me." Zet'kil said apologetically, eyeing the things now placed on the table. She was dimly aware she possibly didn't have to say things out loud, but she was more used to that way. "But as for the 'object' of yours, would you mind explaining closer what kind of thing it is and how can it be acquired?" She asked, not even realizing she might actually be asking too many questions on her own, not letting others to have a chance to speak.

-She somehow managed to almost completely ignore what Talon said, despite of noting up in the mind that he probably has got more names than just the one, as he now called himself Random. Perhaps it had something to do with their little disagreements earlier.
A thought can create a world, but only a word written down can ensure its existence.

-When I am physically capable of doing something it doesn't mean I can do it. When I can, it doesn't mean that I should. When I should, it doesn't mean that I must. When I must, it doesn't mean that I will.
-I might not always know where I currently am, but I am never lost. I know in which direction my destination lies.
-There is no faith in knowing. I prefer to know, as only in this way can I be certain in my decisions.
-The more people you ask a question the higher the chance that at least one of them is right.
-Make me walk on walls, don't force me to dance according to others' will.
-I agree that life can be depressing at times. I just choose to ignore it.

When one of Talon's mercenaries spoke, there seemed to go a slight ripple through the body of ants as its odd imitation to a human head turned to him, the creature apparently listening, or... something else, probably the latter, since Melai was not certain whether Minds even possessed the ability to hear anything very well. That scared him, quite frankly, but Retzaan remained the most powerful criminal mastermind in this part of the galaxy, and he was the one who paid best as well. If he had a job, Melai's best chance to earn a good pile of cash - and some measure of influence in Retzaan's organization - was to take it and execute it.
"I'm interested, though," Melai grinned, shooting a glance at Talon's mercenary, "Please tell me more, boss."
Silence, Melai, Retzaan surprised him by responding, We collect individuals with control of PSI-waves, such as yourself and us, but since you persist to turn down our offer of allowing you to join our ranks as a telekinetic test-subject, you are the one of this group with least value to us. You are merely the one with the biggest ship, which conviniently brought the rest of these interesting people to us. But we have no interest in negotiating with you.
Slowly, Retzaan raised a hand and pointed something that could make up for an index finger at Talon. You, on the other hand - Talon - might be of some use to us, because although you are only human, we sense that there is more to you than even we can tell, and your very nature seems interesting to us... but don't try to lie to us. You cannot hide your thoughts from us. And neither can you, Theyr. Even Melai was surprised when Retzaan addressed the Scorpio so suddenly, and spun around to see if the she had done anything to attract the Mind's attention, but that did not seem to be the case. And of course you can choose whether you will take the risk of trying this kind of food, Zet'kil of the Xeian's - we would not want you to be poisoned just to please us... not yet, anyways, and if we wanted that, we would not give you the possibility of denying to oblidge. We are interested in you as a group, not as individuals... Because the individual is useless if it does not aid the collective. Remember that... all of you.

Finally Retzaan seemed to move for a moment, before his entire shape shifted from sitting to standing, looking first at Talon and then at Lya. We sense that the two of you are the best negotiators here, and thus we figure that you will do the talking... so shut up, Melai. The last comment was 'spoken' just as Melai opened his mouth to add some of his own opinion, and he instantly snapped his lips closed. And of course you are right, Zet'kil, we might as well add some details... we merely wanted to know if you were interested in earning credits... and the possibility of initiating trade between your odd union and our little organization. The nature of the item we want is unimportant to you... all you need to know is that it is a piece of eight hundred year old human technology. A prototype that was the breakthrough in a special part of their research, but was left on Earth by accident when it was evacuated.
The Mind went silent for a moment for his words to sink in. Yes, we want you to go to Earth to retrieve the object. So, will you tell us now if you are interested?

(Sorry Silver, I edited it. It was the thing about yourself starting to refer to Talon as Random as well that confused me... But this should be better.)

Well he could have just said so to begin with. That was just up her alley. That was her job, acquiring goods. A grin spread across her human face, slightly skewing her tattoos. She looked sidelong at the cookies, letting her apologies to the chef filter to the front of her thoughts. She had no way to assimilate solid matter. She could pretend to eat it, but it would not sustain her. It would simply give her a chemical analysis of the item. Later she would have to dispose of it. What she needed was a good burst of solar radiation, but she would be fine as soon as she was outside...well, so long as people stopped taking pot shots at Melai. She was not looking forward to spending more time on Terra Gamma. She wanted rest, alone, in the confines of her control room. She was tired, hungry and confused. This was not a good combination when trying to work out a deal. She would just have to be assertive.

...Because the individual is useless if it does not aid the collective. Remember that... all of you.

It spoke like a Telkran. Though they were individuals, they always kept the good of the many foremost in their actions. Unlike these humans that seemed to think only of themselves. Perhaps it was the natural course for beings that could read thoughts. One cannot ignore the plight of others, what hurts them, hurts everyone. That was one of the reasons she detested 'wireheads', they hurt the whole, and cared not for their actions.

We sense that the two of you are the best negotiators here, and thus we figure that you will do the talking... Yes, we want you to go to Earth to retrieve the object. So, will you tell us now if you are interested?

Lya stepped forward. Knowing what might happen should Talon actually have to converse with the bug, she instigated the bargaining. "What deal you make with the others, is for them. I have my own terms." She reached her hand forward, and made contact with the mind. I have no interest in earning credits for my labor. It is abhorrent to me. I sense this artifact is of great importance to you? The price for my labor is you relieve Melai's debt...all of it. And we, Talon and myself, want the monopoly for barter on Terra Gamma. You need something we get first option to supply it. That's my offer, or I fly out of here in ten of your minutes, and never look back. The welcome here leaves much to be desired. Not yours of course, just the general populace. Oh, and by the way, if anything happens to Melai... She let the threat hang. There was no reason to continue, her thoughts were clear on the matter.

When Lya stepped forward to start negotiating with Retzaan, Melai stood back and almost rubbed his hands in expectation of watching the Mind and the Telkran clash and witness the battle of wills that would inevitably occur once the merchant and the criminal mastermind began... but after Lya had stated that she had terms of her own, she said nothing else, and the room was left with nothing but the low noise of the human medics that were still treating the wounds some of them had sustained - one of them even tried bandaging Melai's shoulder, but he impatiently gestured for the medic to treat the insectoids first, listening intensely, trying to hear if there really was a conversation between Lya and Retzaan... but he heard nothing.

You threaten us, here, in the headquarters of the Omnichange? Retzaan transferred his thoughts to only Lya, since she had been the one to face him, and as he said the word 'Omnichange' he made sure to put the impression in Lya's mind that it was the name of Retzaan's organization. You are braver than we first estimated... we respect that. We agree to your terms, although it is against our politics to bend the minds of the other leaders here on Terra Gamma, we can make sure that you get the monopoly to trade here. And to pay Melai's debt? That can be done easily, although I believe Melai owes people more than just mere money, and despite our influence, we cannot restore viginity nor faithfulness. But we can make people... forget. We do not understand why you are so fascinated by Melai... he's scum, after all. But we will oblidge. Once you are on Earth, however, we cannot guarantee for the safety of any of you - otherwise we would have gone ourselves.

Very well, I believe that concludes the negotiations? Retzaan's thoughts were once again broadcast the the entire room, In that case, for navigational purposes, accept this as your... guide on Earth. Another ripple went through Retzaan's body, but nothing seemed to happen... Melai felt something tickle on his neck, and when he took his hand there, a single, winged ant crawled onto his finger and stared at him. As long as that one of us is with you, we can remain in contact and we can guide you to the research facility on Earth where the object we crave is located.

And of course you can choose whether you will take the risk of trying this kind of food, Zet'kil of the Xeian's - we would not want you to be poisoned just to please us... not yet, anyways, and if we wanted that, we would not give you the possibility of denying to oblige. We are interested in you as a group, not as individuals... Because the individual is useless if it does not aid the collective. Remember that... all of you.
"The last part is completely true. I cant say I never am completely separated from the rest of us, and the Union, even when we have the technology instead of your abilities." She commented, raising again the hand with the control a little bit.
-You can kill one. You can kill hundred. You can kill thousand. You can kill million. You can even kill billion. But you can never kill all.- Xet'kil didn't quite remember who said it, but someone had said it, and despite the little dark side the saying had, it had came to her mind when she heard the Mind's words in her head. Maybe it was because of the insectoid's words of poisoning her against her will, which she was sure others would not be very happy of.

And of course you are right, Zet'kil, we might as well add some details... we merely wanted to know if you were interested in earning credits... and the possibility of initiating trade between your odd union and our little organization. 'Old human technology.' She noted to herself. So was this really something they did NOT already have? Either way, that meant going on a warring planet. She didn't like war... At least, it was between different races, which was something she could understand, as one race attacking it's members, like humans often seemed to do, was something completely alien to her kind. She would be a surprised at other Xeian attacking her as maybe Retzaan would be when some of his ants decided to actually go rampagant and actually try to kill the rest of him, which possibly was the next to the improbablest thing in the universe.

As long as that one of us is with you, we can remain in contact and we can guide you to the research facility on Earth where the object we crave is located.
She glanced at the single tiny winged ant positioning on Melai's finger. "So... This one... You will tell us what to do when time comes?" She asked bluntly.
