Talon spent his time firing the stunner like a maniac. His aim was terrible but somehow he managed to clip one now and then. The confusion of the flying stunner blasts left room for his mercenaries to find a more permanent and lethal solution. Two grenades flew towards the remaining humans as the men with heavy weapons opened fire into their ranks. The sudden onslaught of explosions and blasts from the mercenaries sent the last humans into a shower of death and blood. The sound of the grenades still hanging in the air the leader of his guard took him by the arm and started moving towards the territory belonging to Ratzaan. It seemed that things were going to be very, very rough on this planet. Standing next to the partner he was starting to suspect of a sort of treason, along with the object of that treason. Random found himself looking around warily. This lifestyle would make a survivor out of him quickly, it was strange that the sight of blood and death didn't bother him more. He'd lived a mostly sheltered life except for the last year, and here he was running around with the lowlifes of the world. Trying to run a business that wasn't much more legally correct, and using mercenaries simply to keep himself alive. If he was lucky he'd be able to get them better equipped soon, because he didn't like to be working on skill alone, it was tacky. Turning to the others near him he crouched and waited. His guards formed a protective ring, at least one having taken return fire from the humans before killing them off was looking pained. Yet he seemed almost used to it and stood ready for something more. He couldn't believe there where men like that in the world. Pain was not something Random would want to feel and live with, that was why he had hired these people. " What do we do from here? I didn't really expect that every bounty hunter on the planet would attack us." Edited by Silvermourn, Feb 10 2009, 12:51 PM.

More attackers... Zet'kil was possibly moving faster than even she herself had thought possible, making a few leaps to the side and firing at nearly everything she saw aiming at them, some of which didn't do much damage but she managed to kill at least three of them also. She was still not too sure what would be the best to aim at, but she suspected that heads (especially eyes) and necks were good enough for targets. Many races didn't have such noticeable body parts of that importance, having hidden the main centers of the thinking process deep inside the body, spread those all over their bodies or their build made dealing serious damage hard enough. (How to shoot anyone who is made of smaller or larger particles, like Lya, the haloloids or many others, when you need them dead?) Finally they were near where this Retzaan was. She hoped that this will stop the oncoming attackers, at least for a while. Surprisingly, she had taken next to no hits, despite of the amount of bullets flying and beams cutting through the air. Actually the only thing was slight damage to her exoskeleton, two slight lines on her hind body (or tail) and a deeper one on her right leg. But as it was only the surface and anything below hadn't been touched, it was as good as nothing. Only a slight temporary detail to her appearance she can fix as soon as she is able to get a few free moments. She had guessed something might happen after what the conversation earlier had been about, and so she had taken a few things with her just for such cases, so she didn't even need to return to her ship. |

Shadow Claw had done everything within his own limit to attack and incapacitate the attackers. Instead of darting left and right, he charged onto the group, and and decimated several of the men. Although several shots have been fired at his exoskeleton, the body stayed in place, and mostly intact. As he hacked and cut through several of the men, one of them held out a grenade launcher, and firec its explosive ammo straight towards the Silencer's chest. In one, swift movement, he swung his arm, and deflected it back towards the person it had originated from. The blast sent him careering to a wall, cracking a part of the exoskeleton. Seeing that Lya and Melai had escaped from the massive brawl, he disappeared, and started to run after them. Several minutes later, he was with them again. His muscles was searing with the fatigue in them, and he had panted heavily. Some of his own blood had started to ooze out of the cracked exoskeleton on his shoulder. Managing to catch up with the people that he was protecting, he walked beside them, and surveyed the area. "Are you two alright? Is anyone injured after the Buzzers were dispatched?" He continued to look ahead of the group, and looked behind him as well, and saw no enemies that had posed a threat. |

When she noticed that her charges had escaped from imminent danger, Theyr surcease from the last remaining Panzerus after one last hit to gain a bit of leeway and backed off, heading towards the territory of the Mind Retzaan. She ignored the sharp pain caused by a deep cut in her right shoulder and a bullet stuck somewhere in her leg. It wasn’t the time for sniveling; she would have time to blubber a few hours later. If she ignored it now, this is. “If Melai was harmed any way I’ll tear your throat out and let you eat it”, she snapped towards Lya as soon as she had caught up with them. She had not forgotten her sauciness from earlier, and she definitely would not let the matter rest. Even if it would mean a few years of research, she would find a way to harm a creature not in danger to be harmed. There was always a way… |

“A good hunt,” Derthadgan said to himself, surveying his prize with satisfaction. It was a pair of captured starfighters, now resting within his cargo hold. It had been a dangerous gamble coming here. The node lines linking the two galaxies were a dangerous labyrinthine tangle. One false turn, or missed junction, and his atoms would cease to have coherent meaning. Many have tried to cross this hazardous gulf, but he alone had succeeded! It did not take long for his gamble to bear fruit. He encountered an alien race, using an equally alien technology. Their weaponry was nothing special, but their engines! Though they were slower, they were not bound to the node lines like him. They crossed space itself, at faster than light speeds. If he could get a sample of this technology back to the rebuilders, it would be a boon to his kind. Derthadgan was determined to be the one to do this. Hidden and unseen, he stealthily observed these aliens, these…humans. It had been a tough hunt and a challenging battle. For weeks, he had stealthily monitored the patrols in the area, learning their routes. For weeks more, he waited for an opportunity to strike, waiting for his prey to leave themselves vulnerable. His ship, the Howling Warg, was well suited to such operations, being equipped with sensor blinders to hide its presence from artificial prying eyes. His opportunity came before too long. Two of the ships was sent to investigate an anomalous signal. As the main patrol continue on its way, the lone pair of ships were left on their own. Derthadgan struck swiftly. He jammed their communications, so they could not call for their patrol to aid them. He opened fire from their lower rear flank. He aimed to disable rather than to destroy. He gave no warning, no chance to react. He struck as he had been taught since his youth, and as he had hunted for thirty of his years. Still, the humans did not yield easily, and fought back fiercely, a testament to their skill and experience. Still, Derthadgan was faster, and the Howling Warg was more than a match for the two starfighters. Still, Derthadgan respected them, even in their defeat. Even when the disabled starfighters were brought into his hunter ship, the two humans attacked him with blasters, and even their bare fists and whatever tools they could grab. Rather than leave the ship’s security systems to deal with them, Derthadgan decided to honor them by fighting them himself. Again the battle was short, Carnithi such as him had better reactions than humans. He refrained from using his claws and tusks, again he fought to disable rather than destroy. After the two humans were subdued, he loaded them into an escape pod, and left them in space. Their squadron would be looking for them, the humans would survive. They might come after him, but Derthadgan looked forward to a remach. Derthadgan walked forward, running one of his four hands over a starfighter’s hull. This was a fine prize indeed. Perhaps with this prize, he would convince the hunter’s guild to allow him to join the packs that hunted the larger ships. They were more difficult prey, but much more rewarding as well. If luck had favored him enough, and the rebuilders could decipher this alien technology, he might even impress a female enough to gain a mate. His thoughts drifted again to these humans. It was obvious that they were intimidated by his appearance. Derthadgen knew his appearance often caused other races pause, his wiry frame standing taller than most by a foot. His kind bore four arms rather than two, and sharp claws upon their hands and feet. He had a long snout filled with sharp teeth, as well as two small tusks jutting from their lower jaw. His keen eyes had horizontal slits rather than circular pupils, and had grey irises and no whites. His ears were long, stiff, pointed, and swept back on either side of their head. His body, what wasn’t covered by his pants and vest, was covered with a coarse layer of brown and grey hair, and the longer hair on his head was pulled back. If his fierce canine appearance wasn’t enough, one eight of his face was taken up by a crude ocular replacement centered over his left eye, appearing like a mass of circuitry with a large lens set in the middle. His left tusk was also mostly replaced with a sharp steel tip. Yet despite this, the two humans showed no hesitation in fighting him. They were not slaves to fear. They would remember and learn, and prepare. The next time he hunted them, they would be more difficult prey. Worthy prey. A harsh tone alerted him that his ship was arriving at Terra Gamma. It was sheer chance that he had stumbled upon it in the first place, a node line had ended nearby. It was a settlement of humans, well hidden and concealed. It was a place for those who don’t wish to be found by the law of the humans. A good place for him to repair his ship after his recent battle. With a faint snarl of annoyance, Derhtadgan shut down the grating alarm and walked back to the cockpit of the Howling Warg. He sat down in the pilot seat and slapped at the automatic pilot. He waited idly, toying with his blaster, as the ship’s AI handled the process of docking at the settlement. Edited by Fortis, Feb 12 2009, 06:05 PM.

(The character is accepted, but the conditions under which he found Terra Gamma needs to be altered slightly... Firstly, Terra Gamma is a highly secret base of operations for several groups of outlaws and other renegades. I doubt that anyone smart enough to pilot a vessel of their own would ever be stupid enough to talk about Terra Gamma over the radio, when the Empire could be listening and thereby learn of the location of the den of the people they hound for violating their laws or rule. And Terra Gamma has no laws, so of course its spaceport is freely available to anyone who wants to land there. There is no docking master... or else the Rey de los Muerte would have been contacted by it as well. Just change those two details and you're fine. If you need some inspiration to another way for Derthadgan (whew, long name...) to find Terra Gamma, then may I suggest that perhaps some kind of scanners sensed large amounts of electromagnetical energy there - the why will be revealed later, but I thought you could perhaps use it. That being said, once again, like in my PM, welcome to Stellacide.) Still groaning in pain, Melai felt how he started to grow dizzy as the Buzzer's venom kept spreading through his body and started to numb his thoughts as well and, even more disturbingly, rendering it harder for him to control the magnetic fields generated by his brain. Lya and him finally arrived at the doorstep of Retzaan's building, and once they were there, the large group of Panzeri guarding the place moved in front of them, their highly armored bodies working as a protecting wall for the group. Oddly enough, despite their disagreements from the walk here, everyone seemed to work together quite well, and the thugs were effectively dispatched. For a moment, Melai was sure that they were safe... but of course it proved that the most hated man on Terra Gamma could not get away that easily after having been discovered. While the crowds moved around, seeking shelter from gunfire as a true riot was under development, everyone starting to attacking and killing each other, a gunship of some kind of personal design that Melai had not seen before came hovering over the street, four fusion-powered thrusters keeping it airborn on the spot while several cannons on its bottom moved to aim at each individual member of the group. Melai did not even bother trying if his IR-rifle or the S&W could do any damage to this thing - it was simply too big and with too thick a hull, and Melai's weaponry was meant for being used against infantry. Against that opponent, they were defenseless... say, what was that odd, black thing on the ground? Surprisingly quickly, what seemed to be living, black dirt moved out from the doorways of Retzaan's headquarters, but once it spread out a little, Melai realized that it was, in fact, a mass of millions and more millions of ants, crawling out of the main entrance. For a moment, fear grasped his heart even more effectively than before, but soon he realized that as the ants progressed, everyone stopped fighting, yelling, moving... actually, they stopped doing anything at all, but just stood there and stared into the empty air, as if in some kind of trance. And the gunship on the sky as well seemed to hold fire, and simply continued to float in the spot. We hate fighting, a voice suddenly spoke inside Melai's head, Fighting is so barbaric, so savage, so... uncivilized. We feel that it is sad that we need to paralyze all of these people to stop them from killing each other. Sad, but necessary. We will plant the idea in their heads when they wake that they do not need to fight, but instead have some pressuring business to attend to somewhere else. And they will forget that they saw Ketrom, and the rest of you with him. You should be safe for now. Slowly, the army of ants retreated back towards the main entrance. Please, come in. You are an interesting crew... We think we might have uses for people with such talents. We are on the top floor... the elevator is right inside. |

Melai was groaning, and his eyes were looking glassy as if he were loosing focus. Had he pretended the poison was less potent than it actually was? Between the fighting, and worrying over him, her electrons were spinning out of control. Not knowing how to deal with the tension, she began jabbering. "You are a stubborn hu-man Melai. This would have been so much easier if you had just let me remove the poison. But nooo, now look at you. You can't even stand. You appear to be dazed too. All you had to do was say, 'sure Lya make me feel better', and the poison would be gone. Granted I can't heal wounds, but at least you would be standing now. Would that have been so hard to do? You know, I have better things to do than hold you up all day. Why are you so stubborn anyway?....Do you think ...it...makes.....you" her voice trailed off as a shadow grew overhead. Melai's face changed expression, and she turned away from her rambling to see what was wrong now. "Great galaxies, just how many enemies do you have anyway?" Their weapons appeared powerful enough to damage even her, Lya D'Vahl. Afraid they might actually shoot, she did what little she could. She returned to her natural state, her golden aura sparkling around Melai. If they fired perhaps her shielded form would be enough to protect him. As she did it, she was puzzled wondering where the selfless action came from, but if she was going to cease functioning anyway, why not help him? The thought of being blown out of existence was more terrifying than she expected. She couldn't hold back her burst of fear, and clenched Melai's frame tightly, as a human might scrunch their eyes shut before a fist hits their face. Just as she was expecting to be blown away, a foreign presence invaded her thoughts. Thinking the source of invasion was the attack, she panicked. Her form resonated in a manner that literally screamed, a fluctuating whining shriek to be exact. Her electrons thrashed wildly in terror, until the intruding entity made it's peaceful intentions known. Her form relaxed as she listened to it's intention to intervene, and enforce the peace. Before it retreated from her thoughts she reached back to it, Please we have wounded. The ones called Theyr and Shadow Claw are damaged, help them? She wasn't sure about the others, but those two she had seen get injured as they cleared the way to the door. Melai was so numb, hopefully her thrashing, and screaming had little effect on him. Never-the-less she needed to apologise. Rather than impose on his mind as had just been done to her, she resumed her human form, both arms clutched firmly around his chest to keep him from falling. Looking up she queried, "I'm sorry, I didn't hurt you, did I?" Almost imperceptibly she began to notice her body's reaction to holding him up in this manner. Loosening her hold she put some distance between them. "Just how long should it take for this poison to wear off? I'm not likely to get tired from carrying you, but you seem to be getting worse, and this," she glanced at his body, then back to his face, "is awkward." Edited by Oracle, Feb 13 2009, 01:57 AM.

Derthadgan startled as his controls beeped. Curious, he brought up the readout. Confused, he scanned the asteroid again. Was he wrong? He had assumed that this was a criminal settlement. But the technology he was detecting down there was advanced. Even more so than the pair of fighters that he had acquired. Was he flying into a trap? An advanced base of the humans? No, he checked the readout again. Most of the technology was primitive. There were only a couple of points that showed the advanced readings. This was a mixed settlement then. Good, one more species shouldn’t raise too much attention. He redirected his course to land near the advanced technology, and glanced out the viewport as he landed. He saw it, a sleek, graceful ship promising a wealth of technology for his kind to reverse engineer. His ship, the Howling Warg, extended a trio of landing struts and landed near the advanced ship. In comparison, the Warg was crude and blocky, with battle damage visibly plain on it’s armored hull. A ramp extended from the base of the Warg and Derthadgan descended to the hard surface of the landing platform. He stepped forward and looked around, noting that few others were present. Those others that were here wisely minded their own business. He strode forward to the sleek ship, and ran a hand across it’s smooth hull. A door suddenly opened, reacting to his presence. One of Derth’s hands darted down to his holstered blaster, but no one came forth to challenge him. Curious, he looked into the open doorway. He saw no one. The scents in here were strange, but old. He stepped into the ship, looking around himself Did fortune favor him enough to present him with an empty ship? This prize would make him a guild master for sure. The technology in here was strange and powerful. He came to the engines. They were familiar to him, but impressively streamlined and powerful. Even more so than the ones aboard the two starfighters he captured. He must have this ship! He would find some other place to make repairs, or simply make them in deep space. He could not afford to pass up such an opportunity. Sprinting out of the ship, he ran back to his and into the cockpit again. His four arms hurriedly manipulated the controls. The engines flared again, the exit ramp closed, the weapons powered up, and the ship lifted off of the docking platform. He guided it to hover directly over the advanced ship and descended down to it. Several crude, yet powerful clamps extended from the base of his ship and reached under it. The beautiful hull was scratched, but it easily absorbed whatever stress the clamps put on it. The clamps bound to the ship, securing it firmly to the underside of the Howling Warg. The Warg’s engines flared. The extra weight strained them, but fortunately the asteroid’s gravity was not strong. With his newest prize in his grasp, he guided his ship back into open space. It was a pity this theft was so easy, with no battling whatsoever, but this reward more than made up for it. |

Shadow Claw had noticed that there was a big, flying macine that had gotten close towards them. He gritted his mandibles, knowing that there was little he could do to damage the thing, he wavered his entire body in front of Lya and Melai, giving them protection from the machine. If he was to die, at least he would have died protecting his contractor. However, as he braced himself for his death, a swarm of ants had emerged from a building, and had stopped all of the fighting that was around them. The gunship just stayed there, as if it was a bigger presence about. He heard a voice in his head, aimed at the group that stood before the doorway. Please, come in. You are an interesting crew... We think we might have uses for people with such talents. We are on the top floor... the elevator is right inside. The ants retreated back inside, and the doorway stayed open, with everyone standing still. The Silencer had walked up to Lya, and stood behind her. Once she had finished speaking, he looked around, and looked back at her. "I guess that this is the being that you are going to meet, right?" His tone had a bit of malice in it, but if he had guessed correctly, the ants were a part of a Mind, which was an insectoid of massive power. His hatred towards his own kind started to build up, with no help with the Scorpio nearby, eyeing him and the Telkran. He became suspicious of the insectoid, and started to keep an eye on her. |

I want, I can, I do
|
Fully alerted, she watched the strange thing howering in the air. -Whatever it was exactly supposed to be, right now it was the thing what posed the most threat to them. Right now, she regretted she didn't have her ship following them like she had made it to do on the other planet. When its beam-based weaponry was nothing unusually strong for a Xeian ship of that size and type, it would been still times as powerful as the weaponry she was carrying now, which, even when it would do some damage to the floating thing, it would never be enough to destroy it before it manages to kill her and the others. There were others aiming to kill them, but she trusted the panzery who appeared to be on their side (Retzaan's guards of sorts?) to be enough of a protection. Still, their situation appeared to be no good. At least three off them had taken injuries more than just a slight scratches like hers were. And the amount of those who wished to kill them for one reason or another seemed to be literally endless. Shadow Claw and Lya were already doing all what they could to protect at least Melai from the oncoming flood of attackers, but by no mans were they going to win this time, when anything wasn't going to help them. She hadn't noticed the ants flowing out of the main entrance, before all seemed to still... No more shots, even the flying object seemed to have gone quiet. For a moment she was hit by a wave of confusion, but that passed quickly when the voice in her own head began to spoke. Only now she noticed the mass of thousands, millions of ants, which were the source of it. His intentions seemed relatively peaceful, but her natural suspiciousness towards all kinds of mind controlling and telepathic abilities raised itself again. Especially those which let one to change the thoughts of others, control them, or furthermore, completely erase all what the being had once been and even take over the body... With what one could then do anything, even kill it without further notice. She was still young, but yet she had seen enough of it for her full lifetime. What further unnerved her was the actual power of his abilities. He didn't even have to touch the others and he could control so many at once... Whatever she did, she suspected that being on his wrong side would be the least thing she wanted to do. And she has to find something to prevent him from controlling her, if such thing was possible. She didn't know if common means of it were enough to protect anyone this time. "I guess that this is the being that you are going to meet, right?" Shadow Claw asked in a little malicious voice. "And... So... We are going in? Then?" She asked particularly no-one, if not everyone around her, her words clearly indicating that she was indeed a little hesitant this time. At least they got rid of the attackers, and this was the good part of it all. Being so distracted with everything what was going on around her, she paid no longer any attention what the control- the only link to her ship she regretted not being there. There were still messages and information detected scrolling down it, and some of it was enough to the main title to be written in large red letters. After the headings had followed smaller, common black markings, with further explanations. The Xeianic language markings had announced that the ship had once again discovered something that was hidden, and what that something hidden had done, as much as was possible to detect, with the most of it being only the presence of the disruptor. But that little piece of information, as it didn't touch the ship, or the larger ship it was in directly, was soon buried under the amounts of never information, and was stored away in Zet'kil's ship's achieves, without Zet'kil herself having not the singlest idea that it had once even been displayed on the control. |
