"Yes, it seems my partner prefers his own protection. You are to see that no harm comes to Melai, and watch my back. Thank you, Shadow Claw. It is nice to know someone believes my word is my bond. I will not fail you."

He nodded his head. "Unlike Captain Emerson, who did not give me any orders when we first met, you have given me mine, and I abide to them. It is the duty of a mercenary to obey the wishes of their contractors until the job was done, the contractor dies, or the mercenary dies. And don't worry, Lya. Any being that gets close to you or Melai is as good as dead." Once he had finished whispering what he had to say, he walked away and started to tail Melai silently, as he guarded him like a silent sentinel.

When one of the Buzzers had attacked the pirate, its stinger had pierced his shoulder. Already, he was moving, ready to defend him. However, another two of the mutant bees had joined in, and an Arachnid was heading their way. Melai had finished the first of the bees in a rain of blood, but he was defenceless, as the wound had affected his arm. One of the incoming Buzzers had prepared to dive, ready to plunge its stinger into his heart, when it was alarmed, unable to move. Before it could figure out what was happening, it exploded, the two parts of the body cut cleanly in half. The other Buzzer, alarmed with what happened with its comrade, started to scan the area. Then, something invisible stabbed the creature through the carpace of the bee, the insides ejected upwards.

When he shook the dead Buzzer from his claw, he deactivated the micro-organisms, and apparated in front of Melai. "Master Melai, I am here to protect you, by my orders from Miss Lya. She does not want anyone or anything to disrupt your negotiations, and has hired me to protect the interests." He jumped over the pirate, and blocked the path between him and the charging arachnid. "Come on, you bastard! I can take you on anyday!" He snapped both his claws open, and was ready to attack the oncoming attacker.

"Just beautiful... We'd better start running, if we are to get there before we are attacked!"
"What?" Zet'kil asked pointlessly before starting to run in attempt to keep up with Melai. She wasn't any faster runner than humans were, so she had to try hard to not to be left behind and keep her attention on the arachid who was now following them, and apparently it was faster than her, or even the others. By no means are they going to escape that easily...

There were also some kind of small, fast insectoids, almost more similar to her in a few small aspects than other insectoids were, but that only made them even less appealing, to her. It somehow was more disturbing when something similar to her attacked her or whoever who was together with her. One of those really attacked.

Everything was moving fast, but on the moment when the gunshots ripped through the air she was already close there, body lowered closer to the ground as she was crouching down and seemingly just stretching her two pairs of arms out, all equipped with one of those long metallic things attached to them which Zet'kil had claimed to be weapons before.
Yet, as she was aiming to shoot the portable beams, something tore one of the beings apart and she had to stop herself immediately, in order to not to make four very nice holes in the body of that invisible member of their group. Shadow Claw... She recognized who it possibly was.

Moving yet closer to the mantis with a few quick leaplike strides, placing herself between Shadow Claw and the insectoid, she was determined to be on its way as long as needed to eliminate the thing. She might be a lot smaller than this thing, but she is not much lighter than this one is, and she too, is armed, even when taking down this larger being might require more than only few small holes. Now she was holding all her four hands out, ready to either dodge or attack, if no-one else is going to do the job for her.
Her exoskeleton is harder, so even when her moves aren't so quick and she might not be as fast as needed, she at least has the hope that the first accurate attack from the being is not going to kill her at once.

Mere two seconds later something which seemed like four barely visible rays of red light penetrated the air for a split-second, going straight through the body of the large insectoid and despite of almost no visible damage, making it to make a few staggering half-leaps forward, before slumping to the ground motionless, quite clearly dead.
When one were to inspect closer, it would be clear that there still were marks of the Xeian's handweapons- four small burnt-edged holes in the places the beams had made their way through. She watched the being for a few seconds to ensure it was really dead- perhaps she had indeed hit the right places- before turning to walk to the place Melai was.

"Are you..." Quite clearly not everything was all right, so she didn't finish the sentence. "Can I do anything?"

((I know this looks a little odd, but I had to edit it after writing, because Mercinus was posting at the same time:))

A thought can create a world, but only a word written down can ensure its existence.

-When I am physically capable of doing something it doesn't mean I can do it. When I can, it doesn't mean that I should. When I should, it doesn't mean that I must. When I must, it doesn't mean that I will.
-I might not always know where I currently am, but I am never lost. I know in which direction my destination lies.
-There is no faith in knowing. I prefer to know, as only in this way can I be certain in my decisions.
-The more people you ask a question the higher the chance that at least one of them is right.
-Make me walk on walls, don't force me to dance according to others' will.
-I agree that life can be depressing at times. I just choose to ignore it.
-I don't figure over possibilities. I want, I can, I do.

Surrounded by an armed escort Lya wasn't expecting any problems until they were in Ratzaan's presence. Nor was she expecting anything here to attack Melai. The Buzzer was so swift she didn't have time to react before he was stung. As she approached, his gun fired, and the Buzzer exploded above her, but she was intent on only one thing. Melai was vulnerable. He appeared unable to even hold up the gun. Most creatures with stingers used poison, if these ones did, Melai could be in serious trouble. She had no notion of the potency of the poison. Her need for him to survive prompted her to unusual action. But why was she concerned about his obvious pain? It must be these emotions again.

Though she tried to force it away, the pain on his face continued to bother her. That familiar ache in her chest surged again. Unable to restrain herself she fell to her knees, and reached for his shoulder. Please Ryx, don't let him think I am coming in for the kill. "As she touched his shoulder her hand dissolved into his flesh. Immediately assaulted by the pain, she lightly touched the nerve ends, tracing them back to their origin, temporarily numbing them. Lya felt the pain recede to a dull throb, then vanish altogether. Taking great care to stay away from his thoughts, she kept her voice soft and non threatening. With the pain abated she attempted to ease any concerns.

"Melai, I am sorry for the intrusion, but I can't leave you in pain. If I remove my hand it will return." From the corner of her eye she saw the other bugs being dispatched, and Zet'kil approaching. "Is your life threatened by this poison? It is traveling into your system rapidly. I could remove it, but it would require me to be more invasive than I already am, but less so than the scan."

Zet'kil had returned, "Are you...can I do anything?"

Theyr had noticed the slow change of the atmosphere around them. The disinterest of the creatures around them – mainly insectoids, as Theyr had realized contentedly – had turned from disinterest to distrust, then to open hostility. It seemed as if she would get the fight she was longing form, even if it was a bit different than she had expected.

For some time she had enlivened herself by staring at a few Silencers with the whole lust to kill she had gathered in the last months. The silent getaway of the bugs after they had tried to bear up against her for a few minutes raised her mood a bit. No-one dared to focus a white-headed Scorpio…

The good thing was that the soundless dispute has cheered her up. The bad thing was that she thus hadn’t noticed the Buzzer who had suddenly gotten over her livestock named Melai. To fast even for her to react the human has on the ground, the bug was above him. Only a moment later the Buzzers head exploded, wetting the surrenders with its blood.

Before Theyr had the chance to shorten the second Buzzers life expectance for a few decades, it was cleanly cut in half. For a moment Theyr forgot the Arachid towering behind her and gave in easily to find a perfect balance, a position enabling her to use her tail as the weapon it was. Air that was able to cut things in half was definitely not what she wanted to breath.

A moment later the creature materialized with its back towards her, facing Melai. She slightly raised her tail, the sharp pike wet of the poison her body had begun to produce with the first testosterone rushing through her veins. In a case of doubt it was always better to attack right away. And in every case it was better to attack an enemy from the back. However, the Silencers next words made her hesitate. "Master Melai, I am here to protect you, by my orders from Miss Lya.” For a moment Theyr’s lust to kill the bug became nearly superior. Let the little thief pay now to teach her a lesson… Let her pay… She shook her head, keeping herself from the stupidity. Melai wouldn’t want to loose a free guard. Especially since he had shown himself that more effective than her.

She mumbled another swear in the harsh dialect of her race and let the fighting position drop when she found that the oh-so-mighty newcomer was in perfect control over the situation. Now she had had her fight. And she hadn’t used the possibility to let off steam. Great timing, Theyr…

Still she stayed alert when Lya approached the wounded Melai and touched him. The Scorpio thought that her motivation would probably be to heal him, since she had heard what the two had talked about earlier – and since she had interpreted it in a way that would make intention to harm at least on this stage of their relationship not too tempting. The only thing seductive at the moment was the back of the Telkran. A nice humanoid back turned towards her just like the Silencer’s a few minutes earlier… Too bad that she still needed Melai’s benevolence.
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.

"It's nothing!" Melai grunted, at once grateful and irritated that Lya seemed to try to dull his pain, "Buzzers only have paralyzing poison, nothing lethal, and from what I can feel, none of my organs were damaged... but we've got more important things to worry about! Do you think that shooting goes unnoticed, even though we're on Terra Gamma?" Groaning with pain and effort, Melai used his right arm to raise himself a little from the ground, his left arm already dangling limply from his shoulder, affected by the Buzzer-poison. Looking around, Melai soon noticed a group of seven men wearing black suits, wielding firearms of some kind, approaching them, and just behind those men came no less than three hostile-looking Panzeri.
"The fun's not over yet," he said with a grin, although it quickly turned into a twitch as the pain for a second penetrated the Telkran's dulling-effect, "People know that I'm here now... they'll keep coming here to kill me, and you for protecting me." Slowly, Melai lowered himself to the ground again, returning his revolver to its holster.

"We'll need to keep moving! There's no way we can fend off every thug and bounty hunter that wants my head," he said, trying to get on his feet, but he already felt the Buzzer-poison starting to make his left leg feel numb as well, "They won't dare to attack me within Retzaan's domain, though - but with things the way they are now, we'll be dead before we reach his doorstep!"

Her electrons stopped their furious buzzing when Melai said it wasn't a lethal poison, but he was still in danger. Talon had his shield on, and it was unlikely anything could get past his guards and kidnap him. Melai, however, was completely vulnerable. "I have no idea how things work on Terra Gamma. Had I known, I would have been better prepared. I do not like all this trying to kill each other. There is no pleasure in it." Her brow furrowed in a frown of disapproval. "Seeing you hurt has removed any thrill I might otherwise have felt." He groaned trying to sit up, and she followed his gaze.

More were coming. They were almost double the size of the humans in the party. It was a good thing she had Talon increase his blaster level. The exoskeleton on these creatures looked formidable. How could one man have so many enemies? "What have you done to cause such animosity?" Visions of their first encounter interspersed her thoughts. "Never mind, don't bother answering. I think I have a clear enough picture."

"..they'll keep coming here to kill me, and you for protecting me." As he lowered himself back to the ground, he twitched again in pain. Her face grew stern, and she redoubled her efforts to minimize his discomfort. "Well, it's nice to know you have 'some' concern for my welfare, but I assure you, they will have a difficult time trying to dispatch me. I am a bit harder to kill than you soft fleshed organics. As long as I live, you live....." She winked, but when he didn't respond she continued, "Now would be a good time to say 'Thank you Lya, I hope you have a long life." She grinned, hoping to lighten the tension, but her efforts to reassure him, did nothing for her own peace of mind. She needed to get him out of this danger zone for that to happen. Her visage again went serious, "Besides, I can't let you die...until you tell me about the pants."

She nodded at his request to get to Ratzaan's domain, "This may appear awkward, but I will get you to safety. "Shadow Claw, Theyr, please clear the way ahead of us. We need to get past those doors. I will be too busy shielding Melai, to fight. She slipped her arm under his numbed shoulder, got a grip on his waist, and stood up. "You're a lot heavier than you look." She struggled for a moment with the contact pleasure of being so close to him, but it was just another distraction she would have to ignore.

She smiled with the same evil glint in her eye that she had used when she told him she had taken his Jump Drive. "Now for the fun part. Are you ready to run? Or do I need to carry you?" She figured the goad would get him moving.

Things were turning ugly quick, his guards weren't used to such hostility against them. As far as he understood people didn't usually mess with the mercenary guild he had hired. The bugs went down quickly, but more bugs and humans to match the numbers of his guards came against them quickly.
A quick glance at the man in charge of his defenses showed that he was already in action, and a message through his wet link sent out a call for reinforcements. He wasn't about to go and allow people to kill him just because he hadn't asked for enough guards on this forsaken hell hole.

This time his men were more prepared, the large bugs flanking the humans immediately took concentrated fire from all seven of his mercenaries. At orders from their leader they focused on one bug at a time. The combined fire of the seven took the first down with efficient speed, the ballistic and laser weapons together punching holes through it's carapace with their heavy barrage.
Random himself attempted again to lob stunner blasts at the front row of humans. Even as his guards turned on the next of the bugs with vicious precision. His blasts were ill aimed as usual, yet he managed to put one of them on the ground all the same. Why he had purchased a non lethal weapon he didn't have a clue.

When Theyr heard her name she turned around, eyeballing the Telkran in disbelief. Did this creature just call on her to protect her? What was Lya thinking, that she was a saint on holidays? If she had to take orders, she wouldn’t take them from anyone but those she had to obey for some reason. The only one she was bound to at the moment was Melai – even if she didn’t plan to keep this bound much longer. A year ago when she had still been able to enjoy the reputation of a national hero, a fighter for justice, she’d have answered an insolence like this with a brutal and silent attack, in most cases not even giving the other the possibility to regret their impudence. But now she was a criminal, not better than a human like Melai or a thing like Lya. Killing her was no longer to result in the rage and vengeance of her race. She doubted that she even she, a hundredfold killer, would be able to kill the Telkran.

What was more important was that she still needed Melai’s help and guidance, at least until he had introduced her to the Mind named Ratzaan. She wouldn’t be able to shield him and get rid of the attackers and her current allies, the creatures in Lya’s service or federation, alone. Especially not the Silencer who had suddenly appeared, seemingly to be on their side. She had to put away her pride and do as she was told for the moment.

At least she would finally have her fight this way.

Theyr looked at the insectoid Lya had called Shadow Claw, then she bent down and disappeared in the mass of moving bodies. In this defilade she moved quickly and unseen behind the group of determined looking humans and three insectoids – despicable vermin! –, attacking at the same moment when the Telkran had helped Melai up to his feet. A Panzerus fell, pierced by a venomous tail, before he had noticed the silent danger coming and another one found himself attacked by two pairs of sharp claws before he could react. The Scorpio growled when she felt blood run over her hands and jerked back, knowing that she had missed any important veins.
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.

"I'm guessing a that a 'thank you' would be what was expected for that," Melai said, failing miserably to keep the pain out of his voice as Lya helped him stand up, but as he tried to support his own weight, he instantly realized that his left leg was completely useless by now and just dangled like a lifeless piece of meat from his hip, "I the Buzzer's poison is working... I can't move my leg. You're going to have to carry me, it'd seen..." It certainly was not the thing that Melai wanted the most, to be carried around by an alien with a feeble-looking woman's appearance - and a trader, nonetheless. But she had tried to help him when the thugs had attacked, so... perhaps she was all right after all.

Looking in direction of the group of approaching attackers, Melai watched with amazement as Talon's mercenaries took out one of the Panzeri by combining their firepower, and Theyr seemed to dive into the crowd and move over to the group, apparently succeeding in finding a weak part of the Panzerus' exoskeleton, because her tail-spike managed to pierce its powerful plates of armor-like carapace. However, while the other's efforts seemed to be concentrated on the Panzeri, Melai now realized that the seven humans had stopped and were now aiming their weapons at him and Lya...
"Watch you!" Melai exclaimed, trying to use both his arms (only realizing afterwards that he only used the right one) to push Lya out of the way, and at the same time loosing his own support and falling on his back on the ground, thus also avoiding to be hit by the barrage of incoming bursts of laser and bullets whistling through the air. The impact as his shoulder hit the ground caused Melai to be dizzy for a moment, but he came to soon enough to realize that, while the human bounty hunters had taken their shot, the last of the Panzeri had broken out from their ranks and now approached Melai, thundering forwards like some kind of monstrous, deform tank, its massive weight and muscle-mass simply either knocking everyone in its way aside or running them over.
"No way," Melai groaned as the Panzerus let out a deafening roar as it threw its enormous corpus towards Melai, and by then he was certain that the insectoid would crush him... if it managed to land on him, that was.
"Say hello to my freakin' powerful gun!" Melai spat at the Panzerus, and with his still fully functional right arm he whipped out the shockgun from his belt and pointed its double-barrels towards the jumping bug... and activating the left canister with kinetic energy, Melai pulled the trigger.

In an instant, the blue glow in the left tube vanished in an instant, discharged through the left of the two barrels, through which an extremely powerful shockwave exploded from, so strong that it seemed to bend even the light that got in its way, making it look like there was some kind of freakish bubble growing out of its muzzle - except this happened in a split-second. It happened so fast that the Panzerus did not even realize what was happening before it was blown straight out of the air by the pure raw might of the shockwave, throwing it upwards and backwards, several feet above the ground until it landed much further down the street... its exoskeleton crushed and green insect-mass bleeding out of its cracks.
"Now you can carry me there," Melai grinned, returning the shockgun to his belt, "But keep an eye out for those human marksmen. You might be made of particles and invulnerable and what-do-I-know, but I'm not!"

Well, he did know how to say thank you after all. Her pleasure at hearing it however, was short lived. He must be worse off than he let on, to agree to being carried. Part of her wanted to just remove the poison from his system, but it was clear he didn't want her intruding. If he was ever going to trust her, she couldn't just do as she pleased. Theyr was doing well at creating that path for them, so she tightened her grip just as Melai yelled "Watch out". She had not expected him to shove so violently against her and she lost her hold on him. Why had he done that? She should have explained...but now they were committed to action.

With a swift motion her gun was in her hand, it was a last resort. She hated this violence, and almost just shut herself off to what was happening, but Melai needed her. She fired. After dispatching the second human, she could not stand to see another agonized face as he realised there was a gaping six inch hole where his heart should be. There would be enough regret over killing the two. Melai actually seemed to be enjoying his attack on the bug coming at him. It wasn't so bad watching the bug die though. In fact she found it satisfying. He was even grinning as he told her she could carry him now.

"But keep an eye out for those human marksmen. You might be made of particles and invulnerable and what-do-I-know, but I'm not!"

She smiled as she slipped her arm under his shoulder again, and lifted him up. "You see that was the awkward part I was telling you about. The only type of weapon that can do me serious damage is a disruptor or my own temporal-phase pistol. Since no one here seems to be using a disruptor, it is a simple matter to shield you. But then you would have missed all the fun of killing that bug. It did crackle nicely, didn't it?" She smiled, "Please don't push away this time. I must change to my natural form to carry and shield you at the same time. I will not merge with you, but it may tingle a bit. It is unavoidable."

The next moment he was surrounded by her shimmering mass. The support under his arm was replaced by a gentle pressure over his entire frame. Her mass was constantly flowing, except during sleep, and she had no idea if Melai could feel her or not. Her outer shell became an impervious shield. While the remaining bugs and humans were dispatched, she closed the distance between them and safety. With Melai delivered to the steps of Ratzaan's domain, she resumed her human form. Her arm again wrapped around him in support. "I hope that wasn't too...uncomfortable?"
