Merely glancing at the seven men that approached Talon and apparently offered their services to him, seemingly because they knew him, Talon's words did not escape Melai's attention. It seemed that the little profiteer was willing to turn his back on the old deal once again, without hesitation, and have these bodyguards or whatever to call them kill Melai on the spot if he tried to stop the man from hurting any of Retzaan's subjects, or even worse, Retzaan himself. And even more worrying, it seemed that Lya also felt a greater loyalty towards the merchant than towards her deal with Melai, and was willing to turn against him as well. She was just like the other merchants, then... Melai had been a fool to think her different, just because of a pitiful feeling in his gut. She had no honor, either... she was a merchant. As long as they were in the middle of the streets of Terra Gamma, Talon and his company ((Hmm the Talon Company... that sounds somewhat familiar.)) of mercenaries and Lya - especially Lya - would be a great threat, but as soon as they were with Retzaan, Melai was confident that they posed no threat at all against him or Retzaan. The Mind was a telepath, after all, and a powerful one at that. He was not to be underestimated, just because he was made of ants. "Are you kidding me?" Melai responded to Lya's question, "The Empire would put a bounty of your heads just for resisting arrest or hurting a single Imperial trooper. I think it's safe to say that pretty handsome bounties are currently being offered to bountyhunters all over the galaxy, if you have indeed done what you say. But here, that won't be a problem. Amongst outlaws, there are only three rules, and the first of those is to never betray a fellow outlaw to the Imperials. If anyone here tries to get you to get the bounties, those people will never be able to set foot on Terra Gamma again, or they will have a million criminals on their hands that wants them dead. No, bountyhunters won't be a problem... not the ones working for the Empire, anyways." |

Lya was shocked. Talon had kept this secret from her. What was he thinking, bringing soldiers? She had sworn to protect him. Was her protection not enough? She thought she had made it clear, she needed Melai. She had trailed him across half the quadrant. If she had just wanted to escape, she could have gone anywhere. Hell, she could have gone home. She hadn't figured out why she had this strong urge to be near Melai, but these changes were caused by him. What if Melai was the only means of retuning to normal. She had her own preservation to think about too. Profit would do her little good if she were dead, now would it? She wished she knew what it was about Melai that had her twisted in knots. Whatever the cause, she began to panic. She must protect Talon, she must also protect Melai. She had indicated earlier that she would defend Talon from attack, but she never threatened to kill anyone in the process. This was turning into a nightmare. While she stood there trying to reason away the panic, Melai explained to her about how the bounties worked, and at least eased that fear. She wouldn't have to watch over her shoulder for anyone trying to capture her. She had very good reason for not liking to be locked up. Her eyes were on Talon, but she stepped closer to Melai. "I thank you Talon, but I need no such protection. I am capable of defending myself. You are forgetting, I just made a deal with Melai. I can no more go back on his deal than I can go back on our deal. You are putting me in the middle of a very difficult situation. Melai must not be harmed, I cannot permit it. You must not be harmed either. Her hands began to tremble, she raised them up to examine the effect. Great, another unusual reaction. Swiftly she turned to Melai. "I do not understand. I have tried to make things right, but they keep getting worse. I cannot let you hurt each other. I cannot allow you to be harmed. I must fix this, but I do not know how." |

Theyr returned the Telkran’s glare as she passed her with nearly as much lust to tear her apart as she showed against any human she did not desperately need, neither knowing nor caring how she had managed to alienate her this time. When she heard the request she hesitated, pushing her bloodlust away for a moment. Talon? This dude who had accompanied them back on Gendon Delta and had preferred the company of this nasty little thief to theirs? It’s not as if Theyr cared about his betrayal, if you could call it that – the simple fact that he was human, a human she didn’t consider likely to be found on the battle field, annoyed her more than any of his actions could. She shook her head, following Melai down to the surface of the planet to see the next human she was not allowed to harm. Somehow she felt underemployed. Theyr sent him and the men obviously employed by him a nasty glare and caught up with Melai to once again take the place she was meant to belong to. Somehow this place turned out to contain just too many humans for her temper. Hopefully they were soon to meet a few normal people… She eyeballed the mercenaries accompanying Talon. Those people could turn out to be a slight problem, at least if they were approximately as well-meaning towards her race as she was vice-versa. She was sure to be able to get rid of a maybe four or five of them before they shot her. The first part of this thought indicated fun, but the second part did not seem too appealing. Damned. |

The English Kitty Ninja

Shadow-claw nearly had enough with the discussion that was before him. It seemed that the merchant, Talon, had hired several soldiers and had brought them to the meeting. The Silencer had never shown any interest in any living being during his life, unless that person was paying him money for his services. So, Lya and her wishes for a peaceful meeting between her and the pirate Melai, and he had to do something. In realization to the problem that had arisen, he was glad that he had taken cover, and followed them to the meeting place. He walked up to the group, still under the cover and protection of his micro-organisms, he stood behind Lya, and started to whisper in her ear. "Will you be needing assistance, so that you don't lose this deal with this Melai and his collegues?" Although he wasn't meant to be here, he had a job to do, and was going to stick with it. Even if he dies, he would fulfill his job and serve as the protector of the alliance, just has he promised Lya on the Cosmic Hunter. |

The men were already on edge, things were already getting out of hand and the business man in Talon told him that he needed to get things under some semblance of control in a hurry. Men would die if he didn't, and it was never good to kill your troops this early in. Glancing at the partner who had just abandoned him for a fool Talon turned to the men marked with the Valknot. " Form up in a wide pattern then, I'm revoking the previous orders. Now your only goal is to keep me alive, anyone who threatens me is an enemy. Up until that point or a change in orders all those who accompany me now are to be considered an ally. Understood?" The men immediately began to spread out once again at a hand signal from the leader. Roger was his name, Talon needed to remember that. The man saluted with his free hand and nodded. " Yes, Random, Sir, order clarification sir, does this include the insectoids?" Random glanced back at the group behind him and sighed, looking back to the man with a small smile. The sound of his voice was a little weary but not to be argued with. " Yes Roger it does, I hope that's not a problem?" The man simply moved to stand near Talon, the heavy auto-fire rifle in his hands at the ready. With that done Random simply allowed himself to watch the others. It was just as likely that they wouldn't appreciate that, but well he couldn't expect them to be happy. It would just be nice if they didn't try and kill each other. That's what he got for working with people who would as soon shoot him as make themselves useful. |

"I mourn that which may have been but will never be." "Stupidity is a wound that bleeds forever; Intelligence is a blade that stays forever sharp" "An armed man will kill and unarmed man with monotonous regularity" "Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghillie suit." "You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it." "Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, 'cause it's going to be empty."

With another glance at the mercenaries as Talon delivered their orders, as well as clearly sensing the presence of something cloaked or otherwise wearing visual camuflage nearby, thanks to his telekinetic powers, Melai started to get very nervous about the company he had brought himself in. Melai had never exactly been naïve, but apparently he had been too trusting towards Lya and Talon this time, seeing that they seemed to be gathering soldiers and invisible agents around them, as if they were plotting against him. And this Shadow Claw - the insectoid who had previously been employed by the Empire, but betrayed his deal as well, and thus was as bad as the traders - was nowhere to be seen. At this point, Melai was getting a little paranoid over all the conspiracies that seemed to form around him. It seemed that, on top of half of the people on Terra Gamma wanting him dead, he also had to keep an eye on his own companions. Casually moving over to Theyr, whom he only now remembered was with him and had sworn to protect him, Melai walked as close to the Scorpio as he could without it seeming suspicious. "Keep an eye on Lya and Talon and his mercenaries, will you?" he whispered, hopefully in a low enough voice for the others not to notice, and loud enough for the insectoid to hear, "Relations here are a tad too tense for my taste. If the traders and their mercenaries try anything against me or Retzaan, I want you to stop them. Understood?" He certainly hoped she would accept his orders... besides her, all he had to rely on was Zet'kil and Harper and her android - and the two latter he was not even sure where was at the moment. Zet'kil he was not entirely sure how would react if it should come to a fight. Theyr was his best chance besides himself, the way he saw it. Meanwhile, as they continued, they turned around a corner to a wider street with even more people, the entire place buzzing with talk. And there, at the other end of the very long main-street of this part of Terra Gamma, was an enormous building that towered over all the others, and with a group of about twenty Panzeri guarding the front door. That was Retzaan's organization's headquarters. They were almost there... |

Theyr looked from one mercenary to another, hesitating by a man who seemed to be used to order, not to serve. Probably the leader of the fighters. If a battle occurred, which seemed to be likely at the moment, it could mean an advantage to go after him first. Taken the leader and coordinator the battle strength of most fighting groups was reduced drastically, turning a force to be reckoned with to an uncoordinated slot basically consisting out of a few lone fighters. "Keep an eye on Lya and Talon and his mercenaries, will you? Relations here are a tad too tense for my taste. If the traders and their mercenaries try anything against me or Retzaan, I want you to stop them. Understood?" Theyr nodded quietly. Of course she had an eye on those two, together with the mercenaries. How couldn’t she? She was not suicidal, not yet. Though this might change after a few more weeks in the company of a human she must not harm. The bloodlust of her race could grow that big that they simply were eager to destroy anything around them, companions, enemies and themselves. Somehow Theyr was looking forward to the possible fight. |

I want, I can, I do
|
Zet'kil watched as Melai actually threatened to kill the merchant who they had met before- in order to not be in troubles with that so-called Retzaan. But... Who would want to be in the company of someone who might randomly turn berserk and start killing anyone around? She suddenly felt like she was in the company of a Kiylamire, a race she preferred to be at least few good light years away from. Well, actually very many light years, if possible. Perhaps at least in another galaxy. -Speaking of which, there shouldn't be even a single one in this "Milky Way" like Melai liked calling it. But the best would still be if there none. About humans... She no longer knew what to think... So when Talon couldn't stand another race nearby and couldn't even control himself enough to avoid attacking others... There were only two other humans she knew and one of them spoke a language of her own and the other... Well, she didn't even know what to think about him, but at least now he seemed the most sensible one of them all. But she wasn't entirely sure in that either. All of this outlaws and Empire and humans killing humans and all thing was just too confusing. And there were also the insectoid who didn't talk much, but when she did, there were either remarks she didn't understand, or just some almost poisonous notes or hints about killing someone- Not the most impressive way of getting into good relationship with all others, she assumed. Besides that, there was that emotional Telkran. (Now were Telkrans to be considered as haloloids? They didn't give off the light-effects, but were otherwise very similar.) That thing should be impossible and yet it wasn't. How can anything like that transfer between that kind of races with given abilities on this way? And she still hasn't asked whether it was only this shape. She began to follow the others outside when the Telkran finally replied to her remark from earlier. "I know you are not a bug Zet'kil. You merely have the appearance of one. I will say however, your telepathic abilities seem to work quite well after the fact. Know this, all Telkrans are private creatures. Eaves dropping is considered rude among my race, but if your memory is short I will remind you when I require privacy." I? And look like a bug? You have eyes, now don't... Well... Yes... I have to admit to myself there are some similarities, but I still I don't look that much like one. She thought to herself somewhat annoyed. They were lower race after all, by means of technology. Even lower than humans. So she really wasn't very amused of the thought of someone openly comparing her race to insectoids. But that other part still needed a little part of clearing... "And my race does not know what is eavesdropping. We just ask the ones we don't want near by to leave." She pointed out. "I understood that you required the privacy, but only after that you started talking and apparently you two were between me and the door, and unlike on my ship, I couldn't summon walls with just one move with my finger, so I would really appreciate when you would remember to remind me about your need of privacy before you need that on the next time." She announced her before hurrying along to the streets with others. The streets were full of both insectoids and humans- it seemed it was again one of the few places the two races tolerated each other, the same way it was on Gendon Delta 7, but not quite at the same time. Here none of those 'Empire' things were at present, and everyone was armed, quite openly at that. She no longer doubted that Melai was right when he told them about the weapons. Still the Telkran worried about something what was not present, it seemed. Or would the other 'outlaws' attack them because of the money of the Empire despite of what was said in the Rey before they landed. And when to listen their conversation, it still was so. She then discovered she was again listening to what they were talking, but this time, she didn't think they minded her overhearing it- It touched her as well as the others, the matter whether the Imperials would be here cutting their heads off or letting others do it or not. Right now, it seemed that the answer was "No". What alerted her, was that seven men appeared, meant to be heavily armed by the looks of it. Quite obviously they belonged with Talon. And quite obviously not all accepted the way Talon had dealed the matter, raising a slight quarrel she did not want to participate in. For a moment she thought she had seen something near Lya, and even heard a voice, but she was by no means sure in it. Could be a trick of light, and the street wasn't exactly quiet either. Finally, Talon managed to come up with a solution which seemed at least sensible, if anything. Still, she would somehow have preferred to be without this armed group of men constantly following them and monitoring their every move, even when it might be slightly safer considering the overall nature of the planet. She saw Melai talking to Theyr about something... Possible he didn't like the soldiers or whatever they were, either. She had said she will protect him too, and so she will... The others were just too odd for her liking anyway, if here was something normal left after all. They were now walking towards a some kind of large building, which might as well be their destination by the looks of it... Again lots of small buildings, not a whole city. she noted in the back of her mind. |

A thought can create a world, but only a word written down can ensure its existence. -When I am physically capable of doing something it doesn't mean I can do it. When I can, it doesn't mean that I should. When I should, it doesn't mean that I must. When I must, it doesn't mean that I will. -I might not always know where I currently am, but I am never lost. I know in which direction my destination lies. -There is no faith in knowing. I prefer to know, as only in this way can I be certain in my decisions. -The more people you ask a question the higher the chance that at least one of them is right. -Make me walk on walls, don't force me to dance according to others' will. -I agree that life can be depressing at times. I just choose to ignore it. -I don't figure over possibilities. I want, I can, I do.

Well wasn't this wonderful. Now both men thought she had abandoned them, when she was doing everything in her power to make certain no harm came to either of them. Why would Talon sneak in troops without consulting her? And Melai had turned his back on her as she pled her innocence to him. He must think her a betrayer of the worst sort. It was beginning to look to her like she was the one being squeezed in the middle by both of them. Did these humans have no concept of honor? When a Telkran gave their word, it was never questioned. No wonder none of her people ventured here. This was the kind of thing you told offspring to make them obey. She was about to give up hope of even trying to protect them from each other, when a voice fell on her ear like sweet nectar. "Will you be needing assistance, so that you don't lose this deal with this Melai and his colleagues?" It was the last thing she expected, "Yes, it seems my partner prefers his own protection. You are to see that no harm comes to Melai, and watch my back. Thank you, Shadow Claw. It is nice to know someone believes my word is my bond. I will not fail you." She still couldn't see him, only tell where he was, but it was some small comfort to know he was right there beside her. Her nerves settled down and she continued following Melai. The sooner this was over, the better. She really needed a few moments rest to assimilate her feelings. How she wished she had never melded with Melai. Where would this distress end? As they approached what was obviously Melai's destination, she checked her back. Good, she thought, the gun was still in place. She hoped there would be no call to use it, but one never knew. She let her dress and body morph around it, not wanting it to be discovered, but it was an odd sensation to keep an object within herself. She would hide it only as long as necessary. Walking down the street in silence to avoid any further hostility within his quickly formed group of largely different creatures, Melai tried to keep an eye on everyone around him all the time, which of course both was quite impossible and gave him a headache just by trying. Yet oddly enough, as they enclosed the headquarters of Retzaan's organization, despite that they were on Terra Gamma, Melai found that he heard no gunshots, explosions or otherwise sounds that clearly signalled that he was being used for target-practice, as he usually did. Could he really be as lucky as to walk around on Terra Gamma without several people trying to kill him? Of course, he realized as he noticed a group of a single arachid, holding some kind of firearm both of its hands, and three Buzzers seemed to be pointing in his direction and talking to each other, and although Melai could not read their lips (since insectoids did not have any) and could not hear them (which probably would have been no good anyways, since they probably speaking the insect-way, with clicking with the mandibles, buzzing and other bug-sounds, so Melai would not have been able to understand it anyways), it did not exactly take a genious to figure out what they were talking about, and sure enough, soon the Buzzers took off from the group, their wings allowing them to move quickly across the street, while the arachid started elbowing its way through the crowd, its many eyes fixed on Melai and the group. "Beautiful," Melai said, picking up some speed while still trying to look like he had not noticed his pursuers, "Just beautiful... We'd better start running, if we are to get there before we are attacked!" Having said that, Melai finally started running, but as he did, the arachid was made alerted that he was aware of its approach, and using its six, powerful legs, it jumped over the heads of the surrounding outlaws, moving much faster towards them. At the same time, Melai suddenly heard a loud buzzing noise before... Before Melai could do anything to brace himself, he felt a searing pain shoot through his left shoulder as one of the Buzzers dived at him, piercing the skin just below the shoulder-bone with its sting and at the same time using its weight to knock him over. Squirming manically to get the Buzzer off him, Melai soon heard more buzzing as the two other of the mutated bees approached very quickly, while the first one pulled out its sting from Melai's flesh and took off into the air once again to prepare for another dive. "Fuck!" Melai cursed as he felt the warmth of his blood spreading across his back, originating from his wound, but despite the pain, he managed to roll over on his back and draw his S&W revolver and, quickly pulling the trigger twice, saw the Buzzer, still with its sting covered in blood, be ripped to shreds by the rounds. Then he lowered the gun again, his arm throbbing with pain after having withstood the powerful recoil of the handgun. |
