Lya nodded as he talked about this, Retzaan the Mind. "Perhaps I can be of some assistance to you. I have several crates of hand weapons. They are rather low-grade projectile units, but I could sacrifice them for the opportunity to meet this 'Mind'. Perhaps it will get you out of trouble, and it is a small enough price to pay for a wedge in the door here. Plus he will need to go through me for ammunition in the future." About the emotions, to say she was disappointed, would be an understatement. "Thank you for not laughing anyway. I know now it is connected specifically to you. What I don't know is why. I have merged with Talon in my ships control room. I must do so to pilot the vessel. There was nothing, no pleasure during the contact. It was as it is with all aliens, what I expected it to be with you. Talon cannot possibly answer my questions. I apologize for being a nuisance about this. Maybe I am wrong in assuming it is a serious problem. Wouldn't you be concerned if, after the scan, your body began to sporadically loose cohesion? I imagine you would be beating on the door to my ship wanting an explanation, demanding to know what it is, and how to make it stop." There was one small glimmer of hope. He had felt something similar, but she did not understand the reference. If she knew what it meant, maybe she could figure out the rest on her own. "What is this 'get in someones pants'? I cannot imagine my problem is caused by clothes." Her face had a completely baffled look. "If I get in some pants, will this go away?" |

I want, I can, I do

Even further confused when she saw Melai's reactions to the Telkran's entry- she knew that he knew that the Telkran had first been only a hologram after all... And that he other one was a real one. At least he had quite quickly noticed the difference the time they first saw the hologram back on Gendon Delta, if nothing more. Then why he seemed to be surprised? As he finally made a sound which slightly reminded her of the soft clicking sound her own kind sometimes made, she finally understood that he had only pretended. The alien asked the other male human to leave- but as she said nothing to the Xeian she staid there, only wondering why the one shouldn't be there, but coming up with no logical reasons. They weren't going to decide anything about him, now were they? The Telkran wanted to discuss simply business, it seemed. Just something about selling things on this particular planet, Melai mentioning the Mind again who he had claimed to be some kind of a higher power in here. Only once Talon's name was mentioned, and that didn't appear to be insulting in any way... Just admitting he had the other kind of skills in the matter of trading, but in the other hand, what did she know about the ways of thinking of other races? Maybe humans didn't tolerate mentioning that they we're not the best in everything? After that, Lya mentioned some kind of a private matter of hers, giving Zet'kil the sensation that she actually was indeed in the wrong place, despite no-one saying she was. Perhaps they were assuming that she would somehow understand it by herself... But she, by any means, had no telepathical abilities to know what the others wanted... Thinking that she quietly moved further away from them, reaching the other end of the not-so-large room. It didn't help a lot with the matter of overhearing the conversation which was not meant to her. She didn't know how exactly human reactions work, or how could the emotions of a hydrogen-based being transfer to an energy-particles based one, which sh assumed Telkrans were, at least by appearance. Though... There could be one question asking which might help a little- was it only this shape who had the feelings, or all? She can ask it later, if there is no one conclusion. Maybe it would make at least some things clear. Right now, she tried to be unnoticeable. Why was that that every race had to have their own common sense? Xeians at least told others clearly when they didn't want them near at the moment. In her head she was skimming through all the things she knew about any other race, but it didn't take her closer to the solution. If anything, she had heard of the opposite. The Kiylamire could erase the ability to feel emotions... Or actually eradicate everything from one's past to the persons personality leaving nothing but an empty shell... But they also could take over the other's body, imprinting it its own mind. But then they were having the control over both halves, often confusing one with another, which made longer existence in two impossible... No, that couldn't be that either. There appeared to be no such connection between the two. But then what had happened to them... Or in particular, Lya, since Melai hadn't changed, at least not noticeably. The last part of the conversation she didn't pay as much mind. Xeians didn't wear clothes, the only things they wore were for protection, if not to count the various technology they often attached to themselves. Besides, she too didn't believe a mere piece of fabric could change anything, be it theirs or someone's else's. Perhaps it was again one of those many-meaning things like humans seemed to sometimes use. After all, Lya had asked for explanation, and if it was connected to the matter than maybe it'll be explained anyway. |

Upon hearing Lya's last words, Melai could barely stop himself from bursting into laugher, but he did manage to limit it to a hysterical chuckle instead, and even for that he had to contain himself quite a bit. "It's just an expression," he tried to explain, letting his gaze run up and down the Telkran, but he figured that he had better not go down that path with her. To seduce hot human women, even though they were occasionally someone's wife, was okay to him, but he really did not feel like explaining the entire thing to an alien at the moment, "Maybe I'll tell you about it some other time. Until then, let it suffice to say that it is usually the cause of feeling like that, and not the cure." "And if that was all, I might take you to Retzaan right away, then," Melai told her, noticing a message popping up on the monitor he had accessed just a moment ago, saying: Message received. You may enter the All-Creation HQ, Melai Ketrom. Retzaan is expecting you. "I will need to talk to Retzaan anyways, to tell him about the weapons and try to get a new assignment. I don't get why such a powerful ma- err, thing, would hire freelancers when he has an entire little fleet of his own at his disposal, but he does, and it pays well." Quickly stepping over to the computer, Melai continued programming the targeting-system to recognize the signatures of his new allies. "So, are we ready?" Edited by Dark Jack, Feb 6 2009, 10:17 AM.

Theyr raised an eyebrow when Melai began muttering something obviously meant to sound surprised after the Telkran’s arrival. Even she could tell that it was fake – she, a person with about as much experience with human behavior outside battle as the xeian equivalent to a cup of coffee. Somewhere behind the just renewed disdainfulness towards the human race another sanguinary thought settled in her mind – now the little thief was here, manifested and with her body. Too bad that the human seemed to have made a deal with her. Well, maybe he’d give her the chance for revenge later. Maybe she’d just take it as she was used to, without waiting for anyone’s permission… She abolished the alluring anxiety the moment it overcame her. She was pretty sure that her poison wouldn’t harm shape shifters. And she needed Melai’s benevolence, at least until she had made a few better acquaintances. Unfortunately. She suppressed any emotions that could have been reflected in her face and listened silently to their conversation concerning Retzaan, the Mind the human had already mentioned before. He seemed to be a force to be reckoned with. Not bad news… She had dealt with Minds before and had experienced them as pretty reasonable, though the idea of being unable to harm her counterpart made her nearly as nervous as she was before her first date. Still, it could have been worse. When the conversation began to transform, the rigid expression dropped off her face. Were these two creatures really talking about… feelings? Now? The alien was on an unfamiliar planet, obviously not knowing what could happen – and now she began describing Melai how she felt when she was touching him? Was this a polite way for Telkrans for saying that she had a crush on him? She dithered form total surprise to anger, then to amusement. The remaining time she gave Melai promised to become interesting… "So, are we ready?" Theyr shook her head, trying to hide the grin in her face. “Whenever you finished putting lipstick on the pig”, she giggled and shook her head. Then, serious again, she continued, “Do you know if I will be able to go out there?” She was pretty sure that Melai knew the allergic reaction of her race against any form of extreme radiation. It had been discovered long ago. |

"Sure you will," Melai shrugged at the Scorpio's question, "The atmosphere on Terra Gamma was, like that of most other terraformed places in this galaxy, designed to be similar to that of Earth, except with less pollution and next to no radiation at all, and although there is no vegetation here, someone stole an oxygen-replenisher from the Empire at some point, so there's always plenty of breathable air." "Anything else?" Melai asked, "Because while Retzaan is quite patient, he still has some pretty intimidating insectoids working with him, and some just as dangerous human thugs. There is a reason Retzaan doesn't want me dead - I really don't want to give him a reason to hate me!" |

For a moment she was uncertain how to react when Melai began to chuckle. Her anger, and a desire to flee began welling up in her again, but as she studied his reaction, it became obvious that he was trying to contain his outburst. He wasn't deliberately laughing at her expense, and she found her lips twitching in response to him. How did he switch from laughter to scrutiny so fast? When his eyes swept her form in almost the same manner as that Captain Emerson had, the knot that plagued her grew worse. It made no sense, and his cryptic remark left her more confused than ever. She felt like this because she wanted whatever he would tell her some other time? What could it possibly be, that he couldn't tell her now? and why would it make him laugh? She must find out about these pants. Talon was human, maybe he knew what 'getting in pants' meant. She wasn't about to push Melai any further, this uneasy truce was fragile at best. She just hoped she didn't make a blithering fool of herself, and was able to keep her business sense. How did anyone function properly while their bodies were allowed to dictate their actions? She would just have to ignore any unfamiliar responses until she figured this out. "So, are we ready?" "We?" She turned around to see that the bugs had not given her the privacy she had requested. Anger swept through her. Bugs had all the common courtesy of dark matter. It seemed to be part of their nature to be intrusive. No matter how many were killed, you just couldn't get rid of them. They didn't make the best customers either. They had little use for her products. While she didn't hate bugs, she had no love for them either. When the aggressive one mentioned 'lipstick on a pig', she didn't know what was meant, but the manner in which it was said was clearly disdainful. She soothed herself with the image of forming herself in the shape of a giant shoe and... Lya lied. She wasn't ready for anything anymore."Yes I am ready. May Talon come with us? I don't like the thought of leaving him alone with all the 'bugs' around. He seems to have an uncontrollable reflex to do them great bodily harm." She glared at the bug as she strolled past, on her way to Talon. If it made one wrong move, she wouldn't hesitate to put it in its place. Just because she was confused, didn't mean she had become an imbecile. Edited by Oracle, Feb 6 2009, 10:10 PM.

"So, are we ready?" "I am. That is why I came here in the first place, before your... Little conversation here. And I would like to remind you that I do not have any telepathic abilities, so if you would like me to be somewhere else, be sure to mention it." The last part was mostly meant for the Telkran, who had only told about it to Talon... But still she had the feeling that she would have liked them all to be gone. It was something in the way she had looked at them all, after she had done talking, what made Zet'kil to think that, but in the other hand, she couldn't be sure either. "Yes I am ready." So they were all ready? Or not? She glanced at the others, as much as she could do that, with the are of sight being nearly 360 degrees. It appeared that the alien (Since that was what Melai had called her before... Or actually he had called Zet'kil that too but it didn't matter at the point) hadn't done talking. "May Talon come with us? I don't like the thought of leaving him alone with all the 'bugs' around. He seems to have an uncontrollable reflex to do them great bodily harm." "Really? It is too good I am not a bug, in that case." Zet'kil pointed out. "So... Will we go then? We have spent a lot of time on preparing, it seems." |

For a moment, Melai just stared at Lya with wonder over her request, but soon it occured to him that she might in fact not know what a Mind or Panzeri was. It did not matter much to him, since he had little respect and liking of a man like Talon, who obviously just went for whatever option was the best chance of earning money, even if it meant breaking a deal. Melai knew greed, of course - he was a pirate, after all. But even amongst criminals and outlaws there were certain codes that people were meant to follow - never betray a fellow outlaw to the Imperials, never give away the location of Terra Gamma... and always stick with your agreement. Talon was not an outlaw, he was a merchant and a trader... In Melai's eyes, those people were even worse than thieves and muggers. At least thieves did not show themselves to their victims, and muggers were honest about what they did for a living, and did not hide their trickery behind a mask of deception. People like Talon could walk right up to someone, look them into their eyes and talk their way to stealing everything the other person owned. That was the main reason that Melai did not feel even the slightest guilt at boarding, robbing and killing such people. If the Empire thought murderers and robbers deserved death, then so did these men with their false smiles and pretty words. "Talon can come," Melai said with a shrug, activating the Defense System of the Rey de los Muerte. Once that was done, he headed back towards the door that lead to the docking-bridge. "But you should probably know that there will be a lot more of bugs where we're going. Retzaan himself is an insectoid, actually. And if he tries any funny stuff while near Retzaan..." In a lighting-quick motion, Melai suddenly has his IR-rifle in his hands and a finger on the trigger. "...I won't hesitate to remove him to save my relation with his organization." With that, he returned the IR-rifle to his back and went out the door and into the streets of Terra Gamma - filled with humans and insectoids alike, wandering the streets to either do some shady shopping or just some regular shopping - some people lived here, after all - and quite noticably compared to other planets, everyone here were armed. |

Lya slipped an arm around Talon's, her eyes narrowing at Melai's threat. "And I will not hesitate to defend him. Let us hope it does not come to that." She whispered an aside to Talon, "You will be able to restrain yourself? I don't know that I can protect you from your own actions." Following Melai out into the daylight, she addressed Zet'kil's remark, "I know you are not a bug Zet'kil. You merely have the appearance of one. I will say however, your telepathic abilities seem to work quite well after the fact. Know this, all Telkrans are private creatures. Eaves dropping is considered rude among my race, but if your memory is short I will remind you when I require privacy." Lya hurried along to catch up to Melai. She was slightly distracted by all the vendors and shops. She could spend a week just checking for items that she might be able to sell elsewhere. Somehow she thought that thieves and pirates would be quieter, but the bartering going on was audible to any passers by. He was right the place was crawling with bugs, but they seemed more interested in their private matters than in causing trouble. A thought had occurred to her that she might not be safe here herself, and she wanted to ease her mind on the matter. Afraid she might irritate him with her constant questions, she debated asking anything. She really needed to know about this, and if anyone knew it would be him. Tentatively she spoke, "Melai, that Imperial captain...I beat up a few of his guards, and Talon evaporated one of them. The Imperials don't issue bounties for that kind off thing, do they? And if they do, surely they wouldn't know about it here on Terra Gamma already?" |

Stepping from the ship to join Lya, Talon simply glanced at Melai, his hands hanging empty at his sides. The man was an idiot in every sense of the word, and a glance from Talon said that in more ways than one. His head was beginning to hurt again, and the thought of all those bugs certainly didn't help. " Don't worry Lya, as long as I'm not provoked I believe I can control myself." With that he set off to follow them, his attachment of elite mercenaries was still on it's way. Walking along beside her he couldn't help but hear the question she posed to Melai. He could understand why she was worried, people like this would turn them over in a heartbeat. Yet he had no worries. The message coming through his wet link spoke specifically of their arrival before them. The man leading them was Roger, a battle hardened soldier as they made it sound. From the look of him and the 6 men with him they were very much battle hardened, and well equipped with the money Talon had supplied specifically for that purpose. Seven men were to be his personal guard, there were others on the planet of course, but these were the important ones, their lives before his. The men who approached each wore individualized equipment. Which summed down to a heavy weapon, two light weapons, a melee weapon, and a set of grenades or medical supplies. All of this over high tech armor meant to keep them alive, none of them wore the helmets at this time, but he could already tell he was going to have to coordinate their equipment. At least they had followed one rule, the Valknot was placed on their armor, with a roman numeral beneath it showing their rank. Obviously it had been done quickly, they hadn't really had that much time, and most of the equipment was old, seeming to have come from the best of the mercenary companies armories. Which while nothing to laugh at was not as superior as he would have liked. " Mr. Random, Sir, we have been dispatched by headquarters to serve as your personal bodyguard until personal notice. What are our orders sir?" Talon simply smiled at the man gesturing to Melai, and then to Lya. " It is your job to keep me alive. Watch this man, he's already begun making threats on my life. This woman, protect her as you would me." As he watched the men fall back and out he smiled to himself. This was the first sign of his plans coming to fruition, and while it wasn't much it seemed like a lot at that moment. |

"I mourn that which may have been but will never be." "Stupidity is a wound that bleeds forever; Intelligence is a blade that stays forever sharp" "An armed man will kill and unarmed man with monotonous regularity" "Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghillie suit." "You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it." "Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, 'cause it's going to be empty." | |
