"Well met, Shadow Claw, I surrender hostilities as well. I am honored an arrangement has been made. I will get back to you as soon as I settle matters with Melai. I'm sure we can find what you need for your weapons, I have several launching mechanisms, and much of my cargo can be modified. I look forward to our meeting. The first was...memorable." She bowed her head, and closed the connection. Ship hook me back up with Melai. The smile on her face faded as she saw another bug, with a murderous look in it's eyes. Why did everyone in this quadrant want her demise? She focused back on Melai, "Be at ease. For a percentage Shadow Claw has agreed to be protector to the Telkran-Human Partnership. Now if it is agreeable we need to know where to land, and if I may join you on the Rey de Los Muerte? I have a lucrative proposition for you, but would rather discuss the details in person, privately." She nodded to the creature behind him. If looks could kill, she would have long since perished. "Can you keep your bug there, from disrupting us for a time? If I intended you harm, it would have happened long before now. But it does beg the question? Why do I seem to attract animosity? I am confused. I have improved the lot of everyone I have met here. Well except for that Imperial Captain. But, that too helped you, and those with you. I am trying very hard to understand your species." Her inability to comprehend was apparent on her features. It was soon followed by a look of sadness, "I do not wish to offend." Now where had that come from? Before she met Melai, she couldn't care less if someone was offended. All that matters is the pleasure from profit, and whatever it takes to get it. Whatever these 'feelings' were, they were beginning to interfere with her work. If she kept behaving like this, where would it end? ((Sorry we got really busy, while you slept ;) )) Edited by Oracle, Feb 1 2009, 11:16 PM.

((Gorramit it, my character is so behind in everything. Damnit, I hate being behind. Oh well time to catch up.)) Sitting in the ship working on getting trade ships into the black, trade ships that would get more then the 10% guaranteed profit. Hopefully he could catch as much of the potential profit as possible, the 10% would just be the icing on the cake. If he could make enough of the trades directly his the 10% would seem like a trivial matter. Just as he contacted a group of the mercenaries alleged with him on the surface of Terra Gamma, Lya made a very brief contact with him her message was unsettling at best. For a few minutes he contemplated her words, and then he was on his feet. Vainly trying to get the communicator to work so he could contact her. He was whispering under his breath, and splitting the words with curses. "Not the bug, damnit, not the fucking bug. I can't work with a fucking bug." He couldn't he didn't want to work with a bug, the damn thing would stab him in the back. With his stunner and the shield he felt more comfortable. Both set on max he would feel even more comfortable. However when he got the mercenary guards to accompany him he still wouldn't be comfortable enough to work with a fucking bug. Try as he might he couldn't tell if the communicator was working, with the time that had passed he was sure that the deal was going to go through. This was going to mess with his plans he was sure of it. Working with one other person was fine, especially a person he could trust as a partner. A bug would screw with every plan he had ever had. The only worse person she could ally with would be Melai, and that was because he'd have them broke in a week. |

(Okay, enough with the who-has-the-bigger-and-most-impressive-guns contest. It's already causing quite some annoyance with me that the aliens have the means to eradicate entire planets with a single shot, but I can live with that. But that the aliens, which I only reluctantly allowed to enter with such advanced technologies, seems to be able to take out the entire Imperial fleet with but a single ship seems overpowered already. And that an insectoid has weaponry capable of blowing up the mightiest ships of the Imperial fleet in a single shot, that is stretching my limits quite a bit, too. Attila can have powerful items since he's with the Empire and has acces to their latest levels of research, and the Apollyon is an experimental vessel, but other Milky Way-originating technologies are not supposed to be that powerful. Don't bother to edit what has already been written, just at least limit the things you have already given your characters... like Lya's ship quickly runs out of energy or Shadow Claw only has one or two of his Duke Busters - those limits are only suggestions, though. We're not looking to create a situation where a group of two, three or four ships can take on an entire galaxy, are we now? And on a sidenote, do you think that Terra Gamma would be so secret, and that Melai felt safe enough to radio-broadcast an insult to the entire Imperial army, if Starjumps could be traced? I can accept it since Lya has alien technology and that she, for reasons discussed in PM's, needed to join up with the crew at Terra Gamma, and that Shadow Claw had a tracking device on Lya's ship, but just for future encounters... it's not that simple. That being said, on with the RP.) Brilliant. Lya did not know whether the insectoid who had followed her was with the Empire or not, and now she was going to either ally with it or blow it out of the sky, which meant that either Melai would be standing around with another two ships to drag around when he was traveling through space, and these two would not fit into his cargo hold, which meant that he would have to share coordinates with them each time he was going to make a Starjump, and in any case, he could not take them back to Terra Gamma, since it would be far away by the time they needed to head back there - the astroid moved quickly through space, after all. So either he would have all of those problems, or Retzaan would blame him for another smoldering wreckage on the bottom of the spaceport-pit. He started when Zet'kil suddenly broke the silence with her question, and Melai actually found himself more on edge than he ever had been before, even when being hunted by the Imperials. After all, if he made enemies with Retzaan, too, there would be no safe place left in the Milky Way for him. "I have never heard of insectoids joining with the Empire before, no," he told the Xeian, "But then again, I've never heard of an insectoid with a spaceship either, so who knows? I guess there are things in this galaxy that can surprise even me." After a while, a few moments after Theyr had arrived in the control room as well and now apparently stood sentinel just behind him, Lya returned to deliver the news of her negotiations, and it would be an understatement to say that Melai was relieved by that information. At least now it would not come to full-blown combat, since - lawless astroid-colony or not - that would arouse the fury of the residents here, and they would have more trouble on their necks than just a bug with a ship. Nodding at her words, Melai decided that he could as well let the Telkran and the other insect join with his crew. "Theyr won't kill you until I tell her to," Melai shrugged at the hologram, ignoring Lya's little speech about how hostile the species of the Milky Way were, "And you and this 'Shadow Claw' can dock anywhere in the spaceport where there is an available docking-bridge. As for this proposition you say you have for me... I'll remind you that I'm a pirate, not a trader, not a mercenary and not an escort. I might not have chosen to be a pirate myself, I don't plan a change of career just yet. After all, being a pirate is dangerous... quitting being it is suicide." |

((Zet'kil herself has next to no powerful weaponry, the Union doesn't bother with matters which aren't related with Xeians themselves, and the one who owns a warship does neither want to be found or know that Zet'kil has got a new ship, if not to mention that he could be anywhere in- or even outside- the whole universe, so actually finding the ship would be near-impossible. )) "I have never heard of insectoids joining with the Empire before, no, but then again, I've never heard of an insectoid with a spaceship either, so who knows? I guess there are things in this galaxy that can surprise even me." It was true that her first impression had been that "bugs" didn't have even the same level of technology humans did, which she herself thought to be something mentionable, but nothing overly impressive. "But how would one even get a ship, in that case..." She muttered, mostly to herself. Her thread of thoughts was soon broken when Lya's hologram re-appeared to announce that she had made a some kind of deal with the insectoid who was apparently called Shadow Claw. The rest of the little conversation didn't made only a little sense to her, though. Possibly it was just the differences between human and Xeian languages what made following them a little difficult, with the addition of her not understanding the exact meanings of their emotions. Overall, there were simply too many things that could have two or more meanings. Helping means offense and one has to kill oneself to not to be a pirate... That just sounded odd, so she guessed she got something wrong again... Or could it be that Lya only wished to help but managed to offend everyone, and one was as good as dead when one tried to stop being a pirate? The second version seemed at least logical, so she assumed that was that. |

A thought can create a world, but only a word written down can ensure its existence. -When I am physically capable of doing something it doesn't mean I can do it. When I can, it doesn't mean that I should. When I should, it doesn't mean that I must. When I must, it doesn't mean that I will. -I might not always know where I currently am, but I am never lost. I know in which direction my destination lies. -There is no faith in knowing. I prefer to know, as only in this way can I be certain in my decisions. -The more people you ask a question the higher the chance that at least one of them is right. -Make me walk on walls, don't force me to dance according to others' will. -I agree that life can be depressing at times. I just choose to ignore it. -I don't figure over possibilities. I want, I can, I do. | |

((My humble apologies for the weapons banter, Jack.)) "In that case Melai, I will join you in a few minutes. There is a pad available two ports over. As for your services, I don't need your protection, nor a dandy to show me the sights." She turned to land the ship, and while settling in over the pad she hailed Shadow Claw. "We have permission to land in any available port. I will be joining Melai. You may do as you please, after removing that bug from my vessel. I will see you after I have finished my business on the Rey." After turning off her cloak and powering down the Profiteer, she turned to her partner, he seemed to be panicked. "Yes Talon, I heard you. The bug will be of service, but he will not come into contact with you, unless you wish it. He will keep assassins, and the Imperials away. 'You' are under my personal protection. I loose you, I loose the deal. It passes to the next Telkran to register. I am not about to let anything happen to you. In fact, while I am gone, try the wet link here." She touched the small access port by her control pad. "Familiarise yourself with the ship. He will answer any of your questions. Though the weapons systems are keyed to my mind print only, you can seal the ships control room. No one can get in that hatch except me." Ready to leave, she noticed he still seemed upset. "I have to see Melai, it's personal. If you come with me you will probably have to deal with Shadow Claw. The choice is yours." Not knowing if he would follow or lock the door, she left her ship. Tiny knots raced across her mid section as she again stood at the hatch of the Rey de Los Muerte. Well Lya it's now or never, she stepped forward in search of Melai. While muttering a mantra under her breath, "Do not loose your temper," she steadfastly made her way to the control room. She prayed the goddess Ryx, there would not be any random floating objects this time. "Hello Melai." Edited by Oracle, Feb 4 2009, 12:07 AM.

(I do apologise for the sudden 'weapon's race'. I didn't intend for it to escalade to annoy you. I do agree with you, and I will set the amount of these weapons Shadow Claw has to 2-3, since they are rather difficult for him to build.)) Shadow Claw nodded at Lya when she had to go off do some business with another man. The hologram of her winked out, as she continued with her negotiations with this Melai. He sighed, relieved that he had found a much better job than what Emerson had given him. Instead of waiting for hours just to get his orders, he has been given what he is doing from the beginning. He looked at the missiles in the corner of the cockpit. They were relatively safe, right in their seperate cages so that they didn't explode prematurely. The explosion was not the biggest problem that he had with the Duke Busters, but it was the chemicals that were held within them. He did not want them to be set loose anywhere, since they could be fatal for those who took a breath of the chemical. He shook his head, knowing that the weapons could be dangerous in enemy hands, especially if they were able to replicate them. Which he knew that it wouldn't happen, since the chemical was different from anything that the humans knew. Lya came back on after a few minutes, making him snap back into reality. "We have permission to land in any available port. I will be joining Melai. You may do as you please, after removing that bug from my vessel. I will see you after I have finished my business on the Rey." He nodded, accepting the order in silence. Her ship came into view, as she deactivated her cloak. Following suit, he deactivated the Cosmic Hunter's cloaking device, bringing the ghastly shape of the ship back into view. Lya's ship was more appealing to anyone, since it wasn't ancient technology like his ship was. However, it did give him a sense of pride, being able to bring the small craft back to life. He followed the ship in silence, concentrating in landing the fragile frame in the docks. He thought that it was convenient that there was another landing pad next to Lya's ship. He landed his ship, locking the landing props in place, so that it didn't slip and cause any damage. Once the ship was secure, he left the ship, closing the ship down and concealing the Duke Busters. He walked up to the Telkran's ship, shortly after Lya herself left hers to meet Melai. He walked to the landing prop that he had placed the tracking device, and took the cloaked device off. Once he had shut the tracker down, so that it could save the rest of the battery, he got up, and started to walk back to his ship. |

As she spoke to him and told him what she did he only sighed in resignation. He was doomed to work with fools and idiots. Perhaps she would be able to control those that were going to send her half of the money to the grave. Or perhaps he would find a way to skim so much of the profits that an idiot and a bug wouldn't cause any serious damage. Despite the fact that dealing with a bug gave him serious qualms. Especially the idea of one who had been a possible trigger of one of his seizures, he felt the need to travel with his partner, and to link up with the detachment of mercenaries he had asked for if he could. As he left his mind was turned away from the more pleasant matters of business to the unpleasant matter of his seizures. He couldn't understand what had triggered the seizures. As far as he could tell it was threatening actions by bugs, which would be helpful if he could control the strange seizures in any way. However the various effects on his vision from the seizures spoke of worlds of variety he couldn't understand in the least. Apart from that the very idea that he had something to do with destroying the guardsman who had attacked them made his head hurt. Even thoughts of his seizures gave him a headache. As he moved in to stand and watch the confrontation with Melai, Random had a headache to the point of being almost crippling strength. |

Waiting for a moment after the Telkran's hologram had once again vanished, Melai turned around quickly with theatrical and overly dramatic surprise on his face, as he even made a little hop in the place when Lya greeted him after having entered the Rey de los Muerte. "But you were there," he said, pointing at where the hologram had been, while he at once tried to maintain the surprised expression on his face and attempted not to burst out laughing, "And now you are there... So confusing!" Finally his acting-skills reached their limit, and his lips curved upwards in a grin as he chuckled at his amusement at his own joking. "Seriously, though, welcome back to the Rey de los Muerte. I hope you'll have a pleasant stay, although this time I would prefer that you left all the parts of the ship where they belong." Walking over to one of the three monitors in the control room, Melai quickly typed in a message: Melai Ketrom would like to apply for an audience with Retzaan as soon as possible. Purpose: to earn some cash. Which he then sent to where he knew Retzaan and his shady organiation had their headquarters. Melai was not sure why, but Retzaan seemed to have some preferance for forms, even when they came from low-level scumbags like Melai. Still, although Melai was far from happy with working for Retzaan and his people, Melai was positive that Retzaan always had some work for him to do... and that he was the one of the leaders in organized crime here on Terra Gamma that was the least likely to have Melai shot down on sight. While waiting for confirmation of the message, Melai turned back to Lya, only now noticing that Talon had come as well, nodding the merchant a welcome. "So, you had something you wanted to talk about?" |

Now he was laughing, and she was utterly confused. Anger, she was prepared for, but this was almost too much for her to register. He was a conundrum, but he was definitely not boring. Turning back to her partner, "Talon could you give us a few minutes alone please?" Once he had wandered out of ear shot, her attention focused on Melai. "I have two matters to discuss. The first is business. I want in. I want to know who to contact here, so I can sell goods on this rock. I require nothing but an introduction. Talon knows how to sell to the businessmen, but the real money is in illegal sales. While what Talon does, makes a profit, there is no risk, no fun. Now, what you do," she grinned with eyes a-glitter, "that is fun! I am willing to make it worth your while for the information. I also want your recommendation. I know they will not trust a stranger. I figure if anyone can vouch for my integrity, it's you. We may have gotten off to a bad start, but I have done my best to do right by you." She wished she could tell from his expression, what he was thinking."Now to the private matter. Please do not laugh, it is difficult for me to ask your help. I am having physical reactions. I thought if I separated myself from you back on the planet, I would return to normal. I have not. I know pleasure and anger, but now there are things I do not understand. I have no frame of reference. Whatever it is, I got it from you. Please, I need a human to explain emotions to me. Even asking for the help is making me feel strange. I do not understand moisture from my eyes, nor pain here." She reached out to touch his chest, quickly pulling away as the pleasure surged up her arm. "Right now I feel like Golian blood worms are crawling through me here," she place her hand against her stomach area. "I can not function like this. I need you to teach me, I need your help." If he laughed again, she knew the moisture would start. There was really no reason for him to give a damn about her problem, but she didn't know where else to turn. |

Melai raised an eyebrow when Lya finished the first part of her speech. "Me? Vouch for integrity - and to the people on Terra Gamma, even?" he said in disbelief, "For goodness sake, I owe half of the people here money, and the other half have some other reasons to kill me. There is one place on Terra Gamma where I'm still welcome, though - with the most powerful of the criminals in this entire galaxy. Retzaan the Mind and his crew... although I'm not sure how they will react when I tell them that I lost most of the weapon-shipment I was supposed to smuggle here... but I guess it would do no harm to introduce you to him - no harm to you, anyways." When the Telkran finished the second part of her request, though, Melai's other eyebrow arched as well, as his eyes widened in surprise and wonder that she was apparently spilling out her soul - if she had something like that - to him, telling him about how she felt, and then she seemed to expect Melai to tell her why she felt so, and what the feeling was? It had freaked him out the first time she had mentioned it, back at Gendon Delta 7, and it still freaked him out when she told him now. "I don't know about that," he shrugged with an apologizing grin, "I've never felt anything like that, of what I can remember, anyways. Although, I think I might have felt some of it once in a while, but not that much, and it didn't make me cry. But that's mostly when I manage to get in someone's pants." He paused for a moment, remembering something. "Now that you mention it, there was one other time... when you phased your hand into my head, I felt something like that. I perhaps that and the... stuff... you feel now are connected?" He paused again, thinking it over before he shook his head. "That's the help I can really offer about that. Otherwise, I'm confused as well..." |
