I want, I can, I do
|
Watching the Telkran to set the generator in the cargo hold, she gave her a quick nod before she headed to the ship's inside and let the huge doors to close by a single motion. So... Installation. Letting the ship to deal with moving the thing into the she moved to the screen which already had the full information displayed on it. Inspecting it she sighed. Well. Not as simple as she thought, but possible. It can be dealt with a little later, she suspected. She had seen Harper to return from her repairs and the fact made her assume she had finished with most things. The Generator can wait in the upper hold for a little bit. Leaving the ship using the other door, which was now closer to her, she went back to the Rey de los Muerte, which was only a little way off her own ship, which she waved to follow. "So you are finished and I can leave my ship in your cargo until we reach the place you mentioned earlier?" She asked Melai. "And do you know..." She stopped in attempt to choose how to finish the sentence, but then decided against asking the question entirely and after a pause that lasted for about seconds, she finally continued to finish the sentence in another, completely different way. "How long does it take to reach Terra Gamma? There is a thing I would like to set in place on my ship now, I guess, and I wonder if there is enough time for me to finish it during the flight." |

A thought can create a world, but only a word written down can ensure its existence. -When I am physically capable of doing something it doesn't mean I can do it. When I can, it doesn't mean that I should. When I should, it doesn't mean that I must. When I must, it doesn't mean that I will. -I might not always know where I currently am, but I am never lost. I know in which direction my destination lies. -There is no faith in knowing. I prefer to know, as only in this way can I be certain in my decisions. -The more people you ask a question the higher the chance that at least one of them is right. -Make me walk on walls, don't force me to dance according to others' will. -I agree that life can be depressing at times. I just choose to ignore it. -I don't figure over possibilities. I want, I can, I do.

Talon quickly hurried after the Telkran, hoping to conclude her business before she managed to pull herself completely back together. It wasn't that he had something against her, but he wanted any advantage he could get. Stepping into her ship he watched as she suddenly reappeared before him. " Greetings again, are you ready to finish our business now. There are only a few things I need to do. The first and most important being the installation of the strange device, as well as the purchase of the computer to go with it. I will also be purchasing the weapon you showed me earlier." Holding the weapon up for effect he waited a moment before dropping it once again at his side. " I also want to see any commodities you might have in your cargo hold. I'm looking to break into the world of inter planetary trade. Trade between humans and the alien races, including those the average human is not aware of. I'd like to look into things my people may be interested in that they do not already have. Above that I would also like to look into ways my business could benefit your people as well. I have a webwork of connections among humans that may be useful in obtaining things you and other races desire. I'm willing to purchase the information if you think it's necessary." He wasn't lying to her he had contacts that his father did and did not have. He would be able to establish some trade routes quickly, and get goods in the black within a relatively short time. Waiting for a reply he moved to stand against a wall closer to her. Leaning against a wall and resting. It should be simple once he had the link up he could find a way to keep in contact with this Telkran, and set up his own network. He could quickly begin to pour money into his account, he had plenty of money for the startup. Talk of his account however brought other ideas to his mind. His parents no matter how much they claimed they did not have access to his accounts could easily bribe the bank which held his money. It didn't matter where he moved his money, within the empires banking system they could take it from him easily. That thought led him to pose one more question. "Do the Telkran have banks of any sort? Somewhere that money, even that such as the Imperial credits could be stored?" |

"I mourn that which may have been but will never be." "Stupidity is a wound that bleeds forever; Intelligence is a blade that stays forever sharp" "An armed man will kill and unarmed man with monotonous regularity" "Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghillie suit." "You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it." "Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, 'cause it's going to be empty."

Lya was more than ready to finish her business. She nodded as Talon listed each of the items he wanted taken care of. "We may as well start with the commodities. Almost all of the races create some form of intoxicating beverage. I have a remarkable variety to choose from. I refuse to carry any type of drugs on principle, so don't even think of going there. Even I have limits on what is proper, contrary to what others here might think. I have various exotic materials, for both clothing and decoration. Rare jewels and metals, many probably not available in this sector. There are six medical bots in storage, they are programmable for any humanoid species. I also have a few spare hologrids, like the one I used to appear on Melai's ship." Now why did the thought of that cause a pain in the center of her chest? She was glad to be leaving...wasn't she? Don't be silly, he just wants your scavenging electromagnetic field out of his space. Best to just leave. So finish this deal, and get the blazes off this planet! "As far as things my race desires, any of the rare items I already mentioned, that your race might be able to provide might peak my interest, merely for trading purposes. In our natural state we neither eat nor drink as you humanoids do, so our needs are minimal. Our only pursuit is pleasure. Of course we are always interested in slaves. War criminals or violent offenders are worth much to us. I won't deal in innocents, however many of my people do. We have a method to mind wipe, and reprogram slaves that makes them invaluable to us." She headed back to the hold. "As for the computer. The one you picked out earlier would be most satisfactory, and works well with the wetlink. There are two methods to install the wet link. If you are adverse to the pain, I could install it while merging with you as I did Melai. The pleasure works quite adequately to over-ride the pain centers. Or you can install it yourself, but the initial shock can be rough on some races. It is a simple matter of pressing it to the area behind your ear. The link itself is programmed to respond on contact and self install." The final part of his request caused a problem, "I regret that there are no established dealings with humans on Telkran. You would be the first. At this point your credits are useless to me even here. I will have to trade them for heavy metals and such before returning home. I am willing to open a partnership between the two of us as representatives of our respective races. Stake a claim, so to speak. This would establish you as the liaison for your race. All further dealings would have to go through you should other Telkrans wish to trade in this sector. It is a humble beginning, but a start. As your partner, we could establish a ghost account here in my name, if there is some need to hide your assets. It would involve a great deal of trust on both our parts. However, if you opt for the merging to install the wetlink, I can allow you access to my thoughts and you will see I speak with integrity." No harm in another link, the damage was already done with Melai. If he chose to begin a partnership with her, it would negate the minimal cost of the items he wanted to purchase. The future wealth they would both make, boggled the mind. So long as her partnership claim went in first, she had rights to the entire earth alliance. Perhaps this day wasn't going to turn out so bad after all. Edited by Oracle, Jan 16 2009, 05:43 PM.

Quickly letting his gaze run over the list of repairs that the android displayed to him, Melai's only real concern was whether the hull was relatively whole and if the new impulse engine and the two new fusion engines were in place. All those things seemed to have been fixed, though, along with a considerable amount of other things that Melai had not had any intention of having fixed before he returned to Terra Gamma - yet this woman had made the repairs faster than the scum he could find amongst the outlaws could. They proved a rather valuable asset to his new crew, this Harper and her android. "The repairs are fine," Melai nodded, "As for the Telkran, I don't know what's up with her, but she's having throwing some kind of a fit whenever she sees me, it seems." Raising his head as he heard Zet'kil speak to him. Leaving for Terra Gamma... finally it was time. "Yes, Zet'kil. Actually, you and Harper can move your ships in here as fast as you can maneveur through the hatch and put them down in here so there'll be enough room for both of them. There won't be much spare space in the cargo hold, but both ships should be able to fit..." He paused, giving the Xeian's second question a bit of thought. "Well, first we need to get the Rey outside of this planet's atmosphere, which would take like five minutes at most. Then it really depends on a lot of things. Depending on where Terra Gamma is floating around in space at the moment, it would take between ten and a hundred Earth-years to get there - using the regular engines. With the Starjump drive, probably around seven to ten minutes." He paused a moment before he added: "But I can't advice you to do anything while Starjumping... The G-force will probably prevent any moving around at all." |

Listening to the fist pat of the man's speech she gave the ship a few quick orders which caused it to move and place itself in the far end of the cargo hold, where it paused for a second, before it decided that as it has to stay here for a few time at least, it may finally make an actual contact with the surface below and stretched out the tree "legs" it rested on there was an occasion when there was no reason to move to another place for a longer time. There was only a small gap between the ship and the wall, so if there was any chance of both ships fitting in, it was that. "Well, first we need to get the Rey outside of this planet's atmosphere, which would take like five minutes at most. ... ... With the Starjump drive, probably around seven to ten minutes. But I can't advice you to do anything while Starjumping... The G-force will probably prevent any moving around at all." "Lets say that around twenty minutes then." Zet'kil put the information roughly down. "Twenty minutes may or may be not enough, but as you mentioned G-force," The Xeian shrugged, "then that would definitely make any installation a lot harder, if not impossible. Though I am not sure whether it would affect the inside of my ship or not... It is meant to neutralize this kind of effects after all, and since there is nothing so strong which would be lethal to you humans inside your ship..." The -xeian continued. "Well... At first I don't know how strong the G-force is, and my ship has its limits- there is still possible to cause G-force for a short span of time by accelerating. So who knows." She at least suspected that humans did have lower tolerance for G-force, lacking strong exoskeleton and all, but how much could they actually take she was not sure. At least 2-3 G for certain. Maybe 4. Maybe five. over that she doubted. Might be six under certain circumstances. Definitely not more, she thought. |

Standing and listening to her replies he tried to keep a cool face. Everything was going well, it seemed there were products he could bring from these to sell to humans. Selling to the Telkrans would be more difficult, however not impossible. It would simply require more work than he had originally imagined. The idea of installing the wet link without pain seemed critical to his plan, he could barely handle stubbing his toe, if pain was involved anyway to avoid it was critical. She continued however before he could get in a reply about the things he wished to look into from that category. Not missing her words he simply filed the information away for later. There would be much work to do once he got the link installed, his network would begin it's establishment tonight. Thoughts of his network expanded abruptly, the control of Telkran relations could quickly expand his funds to astronomical amounts. He could rival his parents quickly, perhaps even pulling the company he was heir to out from underneath them prematurely. Some quick negotiations were in order, but they needed to be thorough. This could be one of the single largest transactions of his life, perhaps critical to his expansion. The very thought sent a chill up his spine, adrenaline coursing through his body. Licking his suddenly dry lips Talon leaned in close. " How big of an area are we talking about for a sector? Just this sad little planet, or all of the Human empire? " Letting the question hang for a few moments he went on, he thought he knew but he couldn't be sure. " I believe we can make a deal here. I must honestly tell you that my network is not currently established fully. By the end of tonight I expect to have a fleet of trade ships and captains loyal to me ready in the black. Through them I can conduct trade across planets, and across star systems, and with the people I plan to hire security won't be a problem. With this fleet of relatively small ships swarming about we can start spreading Telkran products, build up a frenzy for them, and then hit the market with them in waves. A partnership between you and I, controlling this market when it expands, when human valuables begin to filter in through my network and spilling into Telkran space our accounts can only expand. Eventually the Imperial credits will grow to worth in your circles as well. To begin with I can pay in heavy metals and the like if necessary. That leaves me with one small problem. My parents at the moment have more influence than I do. Even as the heir to their company they will fear my actions, and they won't understand the Telkrans. I need someplace to store my resources away from human hands. If you can assist me in this some way. I would love to establish an alliance with you." Sitting back from his speech Talon grinned at the prospects. This had the making sof a very good day. As partners the two of them could become rich beyond their wildest dreams. Eventually they could expand even to the other races. Perhaps eventually they could control trade across the multi-verse. As a last minute thought Talon spoke of the wet link and it's installation. He would be needing that before he could make plans. " As for the wet link, I fear a merging would be best. My pain tolerance is relatively low, even for that of a human. I only hope that I find you to be as sincere as you speak of being." |

"The repairs are fine," Melai nodded, "As for the Telkran, I don't know what's up with her, but she's having throwing some kind of a fit whenever she sees me, it seems." Harper seemed to consider this seriously for a moment, frowning, tapping her chin. After a few long moments of obvious deep thought, she gave a shrug. "Maybe she's 'lergic to you or somefin'. Iff'n she breaks out in hives if you kiss 'er, you'll know then I guess," she said with a grin before slapping Melai on the back in a friendly sort of way. "I done jes' 'bout all I can, so I'm gunna get th' Lady up in this ship, iff'n tha's all right wi' you," she said lazily, starting to wander out of the cargo bay. "How you wanna park these things in 'ere?" The question was as much to Melai as it was to Zet'kil. |

Her eyes glinted, "According to consortium law the deal would cover any and all planets where humans reside. It has nothing to do with the planets actually, but the species. In effect you would represent the human trade, you have stock in every sale to a human whether you conduct the deal or not. As I said, I can ghost an account for you, things will appear to be unchanged. You can claim to have purchased a ship, and I can open our account. From there everything is gravy, as they say." This was the deal of a lifetime, and he had approached her so it was all legal. She was fairly rippling with pleasure, this day that had developed into a dismal disaster, was again turning into the deal of a lifetime. "Your network is not an issue, we can work that out. The important thing is to get the deal registered. First we have that wet link to get installed, then all things will become clear." With the wetlink in one hand, she reached the other toward his head. "Relax, everything will be fine." Her hand touched him, and her particles dispersed into his mind. Just like with Melai she shrouded him in pleasure, but unlike with Melai, her pleasure was minimal, nothing out of the ordinary. Lya halted, sensing an odd obstruction in his brain, but since she didn't have permission to observe, she scooted around it. Locating his pleasure center, with skilled practice she feathered against it. She felt his resistance go, and gently pressed the link to his neck. It should register as nothing more than a pin prick. When her other hand met his head she opened her mind fully to him. There was no subterfuge, everything she had spoken was on the level. She let him see every aspect of how her people worked, her merchandise, how she acquired everything. Nothing was held back that he needed to know. Together they would claim the sector, for her it was not even about the wealth. It was about the thrill, the pleasure of winning, and as for Talon, well, he has just become the most important man in the sector. Her hands dropped, and she stepped back. "How are you...partner? Let's get our transaction registered. Then I need to keep my appointment with the Captain of that battle cruiser. It seems we have a deal to make. You will be coming with me I hope?" But in her secret private haven of thought, shared only during a full contact merge, she wondered...Why had it been so different with Melai? And why did she still want to see him? She shoved the thought back into the depths of her mind. Edited by Oracle, Jan 17 2009, 03:06 AM.

"Let's just take one thing at the time," Melai shrugged at Zet'kil, "I suppose that since we're going to be at Terra Gamma really soon anyways, you could always do whatever you need to do once we're there. For now, let's just focus on getting the hell outta here!" He turned to Harper. "What it blazes are you talking about?" he almost barked, "There'll be no alien-kissing with me involved!" Though the thought is not downright disgusting... Melai added in his mind as he conjured up her human appearance in his imagination, but quickly shook his head, forbidding himself to get distracted when they were this close to finally escaping the grasp of the Empire once again... or rather, he was close to escaping the Empire once again. The others were really just tagging along. "The Xeian has already parked its, err, XS FT7 whatever it's called here, so I guess you can just put the Lady Be Good anywhere there's room for it." Stepping over to the still-open cargo-hatch, Melai scouted the area until he spotted Talon by the entrance to the Telkran vessel, talking to Lya, and once again Harper's words came to mind at the sight of the alien. Of course, it was a ridiculous thought, since the Telkran obviously loathed him and regret everytime she had to be in his presence. But that'd be a thing of the past soon, since once they got to Terra Gamma, only people who already knew the constantly changing location of the astroid could find them. "Talon!" Melai called to him, "We're almost ready to leave! Are you coming or what?" |

After being ignored by the whole bunch of freaks that had picked her up keeping the control over herself had turned harder and harder. Theyr wasn’t exactly what you could call a nice fellow and in her current state her mood had to be searched somewhere underground. She was tired, wound up, nervous, testy and traced by about a dozen crossers that seemed to enjoy disturbing the nice darkness with fatal flashlights. And the worst was that she was pretty sure that she could not do a single damned thing to improve her situation. Theyr felt like a toddler who had been allowed to play with the big kids. Too dumb to help repairing the ships, too short-tempered to be of use concerning the negotiations for this thing they obviously needed to get away from the planet, too weak to be anything else than a burden. She probably wouldn’t even be of any use if it came to a fight. Sure, she was pretty quick and pretty sanguinary – but she had a range of less than two meters whereas the human brood and even these other creatures only had to pull a goddamned trigger from a safe distance. Theyr had seldom felt that impotent. No, this was not the time she wanted to be spoken to. She had hidden in the shadows of a group of near-by trees to calm herself down again. The retied headscarf and the dark carapace, totally useless in battle, had enabled her to remain unseen for a while. Theyr didn’t know if she was able to cope with the others at the moment. At least not without murderous thoughts concerning the one or the other throats. “Talon! We're almost ready to leave! Are you coming or what?" Theyr raised an eyebrow and got up slowly. This was undoubtedly Melais voice. So the ship was ready. And he seemed to have forgotten about her. Or he regretted to have allowed her to join them. How nice… She grinned crookedly and approached the two humans, Melai and the woman whose name she didn’t know, again in possession of most of her temper. She would not stay here, whatever the human had decided while she had been away. “Good to hear”, she said with an atypical friendliness as soon as she came in eyesight. “Can’t wait to leave this crag.” |
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.
