The AI, Nemesis' eyes were flickering from all the data being processed. She stood still, as if frozen for several minutes. Then, just as abruptly, resumed her posture became relaxed and she closed her eyes for a few moments and took a breath. "- Directives installed. Creation Reactor is now fully operational and functional. Consoles parsed and relayed into the ship's central mainframe. Access made available via bridge direct interface relay as well as AI functions." Emerson nodded in acknowledgment as he could already feel the Creation Reactor integrated into the ship's functions -literally at his fingertips. Even though it ran on obsolete electric power, his technicians devised a clever way to circumvent this. By placing a small anti-matter converter, fueled by the ship's reserves; it could generate astonishing amounts of electric energy which could then be stored in high-voltage plasma coils to be used as batteries for the Reactor. This system not only allowed for the Reactor to function, but also provided a system for reserve energy. With a simple thought, Emerson could issue the command for the Reactor to craft a miriad of nanobots inside the chamber, which could be driven by impulses from the AI or by Emerson himself. Once he accessed the interface of the Reactor, Nemesis provided him with an untold amount of schematics he could instantly access, understand, then incorporate int whatever design he found suitable. Not only that, but he could make adjustments to the original schemata, which would then be automatically saved to the ship's database for later reference. The act and possibility for creation and manipulation filled him with a sense of omnipotence. But then, Nemesis called him back to the bridge. "- Sorry to disturb you, Captain. But I thought I should mention that while you were down at the spaceport, my sensors picked up gunfire from the port, aimed at a ship with an unknown signature. There is an 89% probability that the ship was of alien origin." A frown became ever more distinct on Emerson's face. "Very well, continue." He said, nodding at her. "- None of the fire hit the ship, which seemed to have supreme maneuverability for its size. The ship cloaked shortly after it went out of the sight range of the port authorities, with a 72% probability of it having changed its heading afterwards." Nemesis paused once again, then suddenly opened her eyes. "- Sensors picked up cloaked silhouette against planet surface. Image available on visual and infra. Scanning in historical reference... Signature verified. Captain, it is the same ship as the one that left port 18 minutes ago. Instructions?" Emerson leaned forward in his chair, as the screens in the middle of the room changed to show the cameras' view of the silhouette, which maintained a steady, orbital course above the planet. "Continue monitoring, and try to establish contact through an encrypted channel. Translate the following message into a scrambled numerical code, providing the unlocking code in a separate impulse: This is Joshua Emerson, Captain of the Imperial Battlecruiser 'Apollyon'. You are receiving this message on a two-way encrypted private channel. My ship's sensors have detected your cloaked vessel. You have 28 seconds to respond to this hail or you will be fired upon." "- Transmission encrypted, and sent." Nemesis reported dutifully "Let's hope whoever's driving that thing, hears it." |

Lya was willing to listen to Zet'kil list her valuables, but she wasn't pleased. If Melai thought he could get a Jump Drive back at the port, that could make it more difficult to strike a good deal. "Oww, what the hell...?" She twitched in pain. "Just a minute. I'll get back to you. Oww." She jumped off the holo-link. "What was the shock for? You know I hate that!" You have received an encrypted message, playing back now. "This is Joshua Emerson, Captain of the Imperial Battlecruiser 'Apollyon'. You are receiving this message on a two-way encrypted private channel. My ship's sensors have detected your cloaked vessel. You have 28 seconds to respond to this hail or you will be fired upon." Before she could react to the message, ship began to relay another, "I have also detected a massive alien fleet arriving now, they have more advanced weaponry than the species here." For an instant she panicked. She had been so worked up for her sale, she was unprepared for this. "Hell fire, an Imperial Battlecruiser!" Think fast Lya, there's no time. She jumped back on the holo-pad. "Link me to this Captain Joshua's command bridge, Now!" She looked a sight, her hair in wild disarray, the silly clothes sliding up her thighs. She was in the middle of tugging the dress down, when she appeared in the command center of the Apollyon, with not a moment to spare. She was pretty sure her ship could take any blasts from the battlecruiser. What had her in turmoil was the opportunity that just fell into her hands. The Jump Drive was hardly worth the effort compared to this. Joshua Emerson might just need what she had to offer. Long bare legs slowly turned her around, until her eyes finally fell on an impressive looking male, in a huge chair. It appeared to be a command center. "Captain Emerson, I presume?" Her husky voice resonated around the room. She didn't want to mess this up. She met his brown eyes, with an earnest look from the black depths of her own. "I am Lya D''vahl, of the Alterran Consortium, responding to your hail. While you're free to attempt blowing my ship out of Gendon Delta 7 space, you are not likely to succeed. I am here to trade, but I don't take kindly to threats." She continued to close the distance between them as she spoke. "I pose no threat to you. I am but a simple trader of weapons and other sundry items." A smile eased across her face, as her brow arched. "Can I interest you in a planet buster, or perhaps multiphasic shielding?" "Yes, you don't have. But it did belong to the ship a few hours ago and we are interested in buying it back." The Xeian replied to the Telkran, who didn't seem to be able to recognize her race- or so it seemed. She was about to mention the things she had to offer as an exchange, along with things they might have some use of, when the other alien was distracted by what seemed to be sudden pain. "Oww, what the hell...? Just a minute. I'll get back to you. Oww." "What was it? Another attack aimed at her ship? Any signals?" she asked the control panel of her own ship. "No shooting activity detected in the area surrounding the Telkran ship. A signal detected and received by the ship, originating from the human battleship detected nearby. The signal can be extracted to get the information the original message sent consisted of." "Clear." The Xeian replied the SX "I personally don't think that it would help us much, if you have no interest of hearing what the- I think the same imperial thing you've mentioned, had to say to the ...Telkran called Lya." The Xeian said giving Melai a questioning look. "She possibly just appeared in the other ship, introduced herself and is now trying to sell them everything she has... I hope just not the weapons and the starjump drive... The first ones are maybe even worse, since those are more powerful than the weapons you humans have developed, and since the full Imperial thing has only shown it's rather hostile side..." Zet'kil made a longer pause, thinking over something. "Well... I can at least let the others in a nearby galaxy give them official warning them that we might think that closer supervision on heavily armed human ship may be considered to be needed. Those on the Imperial ship there won't of course like it, but it might make them to consider buying alien technology for a little longer, instead of just gathering everything available in a pile and attaching it to their ship. The Xeian make another shrug-like movement. "Although I doubt that anything will be called out from my side before the human ship really does try to attack us or start to blowing up things. Then yes, maybe they will even consider following it in distance, or something like that. They might even eliminate it in that case... Who knows. Depends on what it is doing." "Ships belonging to the Grekk approaching the planet. Probably friendly intentions. The F6A announced. "..." The Xeian was honestly surprised. "What are they searching from here? Seems that many races are making their way here, right now." The Xeian looked at the control which had relayed the ship's verbal message, as if not believing what it had just said. "At least they aren't showing any signs of attacking, which is good since you never know what they might want to do, being rather... Unpredictable, I would say." |

" What is taking us so long to get to our destination? Are we having troubles finding it, or simply having trouble communicating with the other ships?" "Jes' can't get 'em to hail back." Harpalyce frowned before heaving a sigh. "Guess they must be outta their ship already-like. C'mon, let's set down 'ere..." The ship's impulse motors thrummed as the small ship touched down in the same small clearing as the larger two ships, nimbly dodging the trees. It gave an audible whirr as the engine powered down, and the ship sat a little lower on its landing gear, the same way a contented dog sits back on its haunches. "Well, guess there ain't nothin' to it but t'go out there an' see," she declared, swinging her feet off of the console. The 'droid followed in a second afterward after disconnecting from the computer, and as Harper got up, she mumbled mostly to herself. "Guess we'll just haveta get Iarbas on tha' thing so's he c'n interface up w' it." |

"You've gotta be fuckin' kidding me!" Melai exclaimed, kicking the wall next to the door that lead to the main cockpit, "That manipulative bitch just left without returning my Starjump drive? I can't leave the planet without that - I'll simply go too slow!" He swore badly, and in his anger, small, unfastened objects started levitating around him as his abilities got out of control. It only took a moment before he had let out some steam, though, and once he calmed down, everything dropped back on the ground with a low rattle. Listening to what Zet'kil had to say, Melai waved it off with a non-caring gesture. "It'd be useless, and since it's a transmission from an Imperial ship, they probably either want to blow her to pieces or add her to their already overly powerful fleet. As for selling stuff to the Empire..." Melai sighed, "If they get even more powerful equipment, I'll have a hard time running from them. As for the Starjump drive... I doubt an Imperial captain would need it, since they almost certainly have one already - almost all Imperial ships large enough to support its energy-recruirements has." With a sigh, Melai turned around and left the Rey de los Muerte. "I guess this will delay our departure a while... if you start fixing up the Rey with the new parts, I'll go back to the spaceport and get a new Starjump drive the good ol' fashion way... by walking there." |

As soon as the ship moved to land Talon was off of it. The rickety pile of shit made him vastly more nervous than he was showing. Of course he would never call her ship that to her face, but he was used to a higher class of vessel than that had been. Stepping out of this ship at a near jog he moved to stand near the human Melai. He eyed the others cautiously but listened intently to the human's sudden outburst. Apparently someone new had entered into the seen, and of course Talon didn't know who. He did know however, how to buy things, and trudging off through no man's land to get a jump drive wasn't the best way. Certainly not when there was someone nearby trying to sell one. Speaking up Talon flashed the card that was his greatest asset, flipping it between his fingers. " I'm not really sure what I've missed, but if we are talking about purchasing things. Perhaps I can be of Assistance" He put stress on the last word, he didn't want to assist really. He wanted to do it himself, his father had taught him how to conduct business. When he wasn't scared out of his boots he could potentially make a purchase. Grinning at the rest of them he continued to flash his glowing little card. " If someone would be willing to fill me in perhaps we could avoid a walk back to the town. If there is someone selling to the empire nearby, all we have to do is outbid them. We outbid them and we get your machinery some new toys. How does that sound to you Melai?" Suddenly nearing his element if he had one. Talon was growing more comfortable with the situation by the minute. At this rate he would quickly be able to abandon his fears of suddenly being struck down by his business partners. |

I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, 'cause it's going to be empty." | |

Stopping in his tracks on his way back towards the spaceport, Melai spun around and looked at Talon, arching an eyebrow in surprise over what he had just said. For a moment, he wondered how to react to such a suggestion, but while a part of his words were absurd, Talon did point out a quite valid fact: he had the money, and Melai had not, and Starjump drives were not exactly cheap, despite what he had told the Telkran while he was bluffing to have her lower whatever price she had in mind. "You must be insanely rich if you think you can outbid the Empire," Melai said, trying to stop himself from laughing at the very thought of a single person being wealthier than the Empire itself, "And besides, the creep who stole my Starjump drive was an alien... we can't even be sure it would accept our currency, and then the Empire controls the raw materials and minerals of this end of our galaxy. They have all advantages. But... while the walk back to the city will still be necessary, it will be necessary for you to come along - you've got the money, after all." Remembering that Talon had flown with Harper's Lady Be Good, Melai turned his head to take a quick look at the ship, only to realize that it was in a sad state, possibly even sadder than the Rey, although this one could, unlike the Rey at the moment, fly. Nevertheless, at the sight of the rather worn vessel, Melai had an idea. He changed his course and went over towards the Lady Be Good, hoping to find Harper. "Hey, Harper!" Melai called out to her while still approaching the ship, "Does the Lady Be Good have a Starjump drive?" |

"...they probably either want to blow her to pieces or add her to their already overly powerful fleet." "Add her to their fleet... I doubt in it, thought she might, when they pay to her with something... In amounts enough for her to think that it is useful for her might-be-so-called "career". But I actually do doubt in the Imperial's ability of blowing her up, since these ships like hers are generally quite well-shielded and strong. I am relatively sure that my own ship could do more than some damage to hers if I'd decide to attack it for some reasons, and as for the Imperial things, I don't think they would manage to shoot it down so easily either." "As for selling stuff to the Empire... If they get even more powerful equipment, I'll have a hard time running from them." "That is probably true... They have more powerful things than you humans, like I said. The only good thing that I can say... At least they tend to keep the very best things for themselves, so no fear of the Empire getting as strong equipment as the Telkran themselves have." "As for the Starjump drive... I doubt an Imperial captain would need it, since they almost certainly have one already - almost all Imperial ships large enough to support its energy-requirements has." "Then... maybe she'll yet come back to get rid of it... But who knows? I wouldn't put very much hope on that..." Zet'kil told hesitantly, not sure in the probability of her own words. "...guess this will delay our departure a while... if you start fixing up the Rey with the new parts, I'll go back to the spaceport and get a new Starjump drive the good ol' fashion way... by walking there." "Fixing up the Rey?" The Xeian asked, giving the larger ship a little doubting look. "I might as well stat doing it, while you find out where to get this starjump drive to the ship of yours..." The Xeian waved her own ship closer and let it open the cargo hold's large doors once again, pausing to think over the best order of actions, barely noticing the other rather torn-looking ship to arrive or the other human to start a conversation with Melai. (That was something about buying the starjump-drive, from what she could tell.) We can't even be sure it would accept our currency, and then the Empire controls the raw materials and minerals of this end of our galaxy. They have all advantages. But... while the walk back to the city will still be necessary, it will be necessary for you to come along - you've got the money, after all." "I'll start right now not to lose the so-precious time, right?" The Xeian called over to them "And... When you still plan to somehow buy some things from the alien, then I have some materials not even existing on those planets humans live on... You can mention these to her." The truth was that she, since she hadn't really followed the conversation, had next to no idea what were they planning, aside from what the last two or three sentences suggested. "Hey, Harper! Does the Lady Be Good have a Starjump drive?" Zet'kil turned her gaze to the woman. She had no idea how she would react on others trying to take pieces from her ship- That was what she suspected was the meaning of the question. She herself was quite keen on her new shiny ship, and until she bought this one, even the old B2D, since it had been her only one. But when she agreed... Then one problem would be gone... Even when the fact that something could be actually taken apart so easily as human ships seemed to be, somewhat disturbed the Xeian, giving her the so-familiar feeling of those going to fall apart at any moment, which she had experienced on her own old ship for far too many times. Harper took a few moments to clatter her way out of the Lady Be Good. Along the way she had apparently picked up a mug full of some suspicious-looking liquid. "Yeah, 's got a starjump drive, what of it?" She was a little late to the conversation, but she ambled out, her 'droid following her. As if also responding, the 'droid happily displayed the specifics of the jump drive on its holoscreen. "It's a little small, mind, 'cos of how bitty the Lady is. But iff'n you need t'go back to down, I c'n unload 'er real quick an' getcha back to town. Jes' pull that same trick as before an' I'm sure they'll pony up one, given that we get there in time," she said lazily with a happy grin. She surveyed the damage, frowning a little and giving a "hmm" as she sipped at the mug, smacking her teeth. "Yeh look stressed, try a bit a' this," she said, abruptly offering it to Melai. The liquid in it was clear and relatively odorless, though, as Harpalyce explained, definitely not water. "It'll relax ya. Got a still built into th' back by the impulse engines so's it uses the heat from 'm, pretty clever iff'n I do say myself and not damn bad hooch either." |

Apparently the Empire had money, but was one sad little captain allowed to access their wealth as he pleased? Talon could hardly see such a great organization giving control of their funds to just any captain. No matter how limitless those funds actually were. Walking over to the captain of the Lady Be Good and her droid, Talon began to speak. Hopefully they could find a way to communicate with this alien who was selling the parts. If she was willing to come all the way out to this hell hole, she almost had to be desperate. " Can someone open up a link with this alien ship? Even if we can't outbid them or outreason them. It certainly wouldn't hurt for me to give it a go. I don't like standing around here waiting, and I don't even want to think about walking back to the spaceport. This entire planet is starting to crawl with the Empire, and they way I figure it that is worse for you than it is me." Standing and waiting once again he tried to compose himself. He was actually excited about speaking to this alien. Even his father had never made a bargain with an alien life form unknown to humans. Perhaps he would be able to pull something out of this for himself. |
