Perhaps just once throughout the conversation, Aizel had hoped to connect with those around him. Perhaps at least once he'd find that signifigant trait others found in humans that gave them such an attraction to each other. He'd finally become a "sociable" person. Though he feared this was yet another grouping of individuals he'd have no choice but to travel with--if for nothing else than the completion of a common goal. "Give it time Aizel. You cannot expect to connect with someone immideately give them and yourself time." Reassured slightly by Calice's words, Aizel turned to the burly man next to him and lowered his head in gratitude. "N-no...I don't have a place to stay tonight. I really appreciate your offer James...thank you." Soon after, and still distracted, Aizel stared up at the exiting Alacrity and Thane, a curious glazed look in his heterochromic oculars. "A-ah...you're leaving?" Dissapointed, the male hoped beyond anything that the glare refracted off the lens of his glasses, hiding the saddened look in his eye. Aizel was such a child. Thane himself felt the sudden flood through the link and almost severed it, he wasn't the most perceptive person in the world. Yet even he could tell she had just released that flood intentionally, no one accidentally revealed every corridor of their mind to another. He didn't take time to sift through it all, he simply allowed himself to soak up the gist of it. He wasn't capable of comprehending all the information flooding from her mind. His own mind stood with it's barriers in tact, he could never bring them down. To do that would be to reveal things about himself he didn't even allow himself to think about. Aspects of his personality that he despised in others as weakness or as foolishness. Mostly foolishness and mostly of the type that would make the world the most awkward for him now. As she freed her mind to him he simply allowed the link to be flooded with magic. He didn't know if that was what it was, but that was how it felt. Like he was pouring out the same feeling that flooded into a person when they made a kill. He wasn't loosing anything in doing it except his grasp on reality. He seemed to fade back into his own mind as he did it, and found the need to release the flow simply to hold onto the connection with Alacrity. Sirl seemed to be laughing in the back of his mind somewhere but he couldn't understand why. The words that spilled telepathically from the other consciousness seemed to be lost in the haze as well. |

She wasn't sure what to expect as she let the walls fall. For the moment it didn't matter. She was only concerned with letting Thane in, letting him know she would never reject him. No matter what happened he was her friend. The only way for him to know the truth of that, was to let him in. Perhaps she should have waited till they were back at the hotel, but she hadn't expected the reaction she did get, nor the intensity of it. Thane was still blocked off to her, but he was pouring something into her to compensate. She remembered when they had let El and Sirl communicate, but then the feelings had come from their symbiotes. This time there was more, and it was coming from Thane. She had removed the barriers, what poured into her flooded her very soul. Her knees buckled, and she reached out to clasp onto his arms for support. She never noticed the few cars that swerved around them, nor their yells. She was oblivious to anything but Thane, and the approving minds of El and Sirl as they encouraged the joining. She was held in thrall, with no desire of being let go. “They’ve got their own place, Aizel,” James said, noticing the boy watching Alacrity and Thane leave. “We’ll meet up with them in the morning. Come on, we should get some sleep. Gotta get up early tomorrow.” James said, leading the boy from the diner. Outside, the weather was cold, and a thin layer of snow had been deposited on the empty streets. James shivered a bit in the cold night air, sticking his hands into his pockets. Fortunately, there were streetlights illuminating the way, and the hotel James was staying in wasn’t far. As they walked, James glanced over at the young boy walking with him. In a way, he regretted that Aizel was involved in this dangerous business. He seemed too young to be getting mixed up in a war. It is regrettable, but soon all may be involved if we do not interveine. Golion said. I know, but it don’t seem right, picking a kid to fight, James thought. Perhaps, but for whatever reason, he has been chosen. All we can do is help protect him Golion said. James said nothing in reply, but nodded to himself. He looked down at Aizel again. “Hey, you alright?” James asked. “Tell me what you’re thinkin’ about all this.” |

He was silent following James out of the diner. Ironically, the pizza had filled him up for the moment, though left him twice as empty as he was to begin with. Looping his thumbs through the hole at the ends of his sleeves, Aizel held his hood down over his head and followed the larger man, eyeing him carefully through wind blown red-black tresses billowing past his face. "Aizel...do you trust them?" The nature of Calice's question caught the male off guard, almost enough to stagger him backwards. Double taking his physical reaction, he delved into the subconcious, where he could almost see the entity take a physical form in his mind. "What do you mean?" "You have to trust them. Aizel, I know it is difficult for you, but there is nothing you can do about the situation you have been thrust in. These people are our only allies in times like this. You must learn to trust them." "I'll try...but you know I can't immideately latch onto someone. I don't think there's anyone I've ever--" James's voice had smashed against him with the force of bricks. Snapped out of his mental conversation, the boy stared at the man with piercing and surprised heterochromic irises. Finally though, he had intercepted what James had asked him, and breathed a sigh of what seemed like relief. "Calice is trying to tell me to trust everyone. But..it's just hard for me to do stuff like that. I know I should when it comes to something like this but..I just don't know how to trust...or anything like that." |

With a haze before his eyes Thane walked side by side with Alacrity. Supporting her for the most part even as he tapered the flow of magic from him to her to nothing. The haze faded as he did yet he maintained the link, moving towards there room despite the strange looks from people in the common room there. Once in their room he laid her gently on one of the twin beds. Just then noticing that there was not a single bed for the first time since their travels had begun. Moving to sit in the other bed he watched her while still maintaining the mental connection between them. Maybe after that she would believe him, even as much as he wanted to he didn't think he could bring himself to free his mind to her. He had never been able to talk to someone freely without a push from another. He had never in his life picked up a phone and made a call without a good reason. He simply was not the kind of person who could reveal aspects of himself, or put himself on the line. it was not in his cautious nature to do such things. |

The wash of feelings, and the rush of magic left her so tired she could barely lift her head. But she needed Thane to know, Don't worry Thane. I trust you...with my life. She knew he would panic if she got up and hugged him. A sad smile crossed her lips, since she was too weak to move, she had only her mind to work with. She sent him a mental image of her tenderly embracing him, self imagined flaws and all. Perhaps it wouldn't be so hard for him to accept just an image. That was her last thought before drifting into slumber.

“Yeah, I hear you. You know something, it ain’t easy for me either. We just met today,” James said, walking alongside young Aizel. “This whole business doesn’t help either. It still seems slightly impossible to me. But we’ll muddle through. These are good people, Aizel. I dunno how I know, but Golion does, and I bet Calice knows too. Just give it time.” Coming to the hotel, James checked in with the front desk to get the room for him and his ‘nephew’. After obtaining the key cards, he walked out to the parking lot to get his a small suitcase and carried it up to their room. Entering, he left his suitcase by the door. “Well, Aizel. It’d be a good idea to get some sleep. We’re gettin’ up early tomorrow,” James said, before leaving for the bathroom to prepare himself for the evening. |

Alone again, Aizel carefully paced the room. Running his hand over the smoothed surface of a mahogany table, he caught sight of refracted light in his spectacles bounced off the mirror, blinding him for a moment. In a feat of clumsiness, Aizel backed away from his previous spot, tripping over his own undone shoelace and falling onto the bed. The stuffed animal he'd held so dearly slid out of his hands and onto the floor. Taking a moment to sit up, it took Aizel nearly seconds to realize it was no longer in his grasp. "Aizel. Before you do anything rash--" Calice began, his words richocheting off the walls of the now hyperventilating boy's mind. "Aizel Hendrix Whisper. Where in the world do you think it could possibly have gone? You simply dropped it." Once again nibbling his lip to the point of mutilation, Aizel tossed his head back at the celing and let out a sob, tears streaming down his face. "I DON'T KNOW!!!!" He yelled frantically, hopping off the bed fervently and --almost maniacly--staring at the floor. Strangely enough, it was as if a light switch had been flipped. Once again calm, Aizel scooped the stuffed animal into his arms and stroked the top of its head soothingly. |

The image did indeed startle him momentarily, but in the haze of his magic he managed to find some comfort in it. His thoughts were of a myriad of things as he drifted off to sleep, but most prominently his thoughts were of her. His oldest companion and friend, yet they had only known each other for the shortest of times. He was closer only to Sirl, and to him Sirl was himself, not a physical being but an extension of himself. Not a tool but a section of one's mind only so barely separate from the others that it was difficult to see the seam at all. There would always be that slightest bit of separation, yet it would always seem less prominent then it had before. When at one time it had seemed like Sirl was simply an invader in his mind. As he drifted off to sleep he wrapped the gentle arms of his mind and his magic around that of hers. There she would sleep in comfort, and in his gloriously disconnected haze he also would sleep in peace and comfort. |
