As Aizel slipped into the booth across from Thane and herself, Alacrity's heart clenched. She leaned closer to Thane, He's scared to death Thane, poor kid. We will need to find some food for these two soon.

Her tone was warm and welcoming to the youth. he had such a lost frightened look in his eyes. As if he had seen things a young man his age shouldn't have to see. "Aizel, you are safe with us. We and our hosts seek peace between the worlds. But it is true to achieve that peace, we have to eliminate those that stand against us. There is no reasoning with them. Their only purpose is to destroy earth, and us. I also know no Wielder would ask you to do anything you aren't willing to do. It is not their way. So just settle in, relax and eat. We'll do what we can to help."

Her attention turned back to James for a moment. She smiled, it was almost like they had just formed some kind of family unit. James would be a great asset, he probably knew the roads much better than she and Thane. "Are you still driving your rig James? Or did you use a company truck? It is our hope to find more Wielders as we move toward Alaska." She leaned into Thane full of good humor, "Just don't let Thane drive it. He has a penchant for using vehicles to take out breakers."

Thane watched both of the new additions with careful calculations. He didn't guess that either of them had been forced to kill as of yet. The first kill was always the most difficult, if they couldn't survive the first one they would never develop the desire for the next one. It was that emotional turmoil that kept Thane and Sirl going, and that most likely kept Alacrity and El up as well. Her voice in his mind was suddenly soothing, it comforted him in a way. It was another bond sorts, one that had built up over time without his notice. It had been lost in the sea of changes between he and Sirl, but now that he had founded it he was completely confused by it. That more than anything made him nervous, he had been nervous around her before, now he was afraid it would be worse.
I know, they need the strength if they are to fight beside us. The problem is, the longer things go on, the fewer weak breakers and possessors that will remain, we are going to have to teach them to hunt. The only way to teach such a skill will be to show them. Tomorrow we will hunt with them at our side.
Sirl's voice in the layers of his mind voiced agreement momentarily, before Alacrity and Thane both turned away from each other's minds and back to the conversation at hand.

The idea of a rig was a good one, it wouldn't necessarily be the most comfortable trip that way. However it would be efficient and they would be able to move about much easier. Thane was mostly still distracted by his own thoughts however, trying half heartedly to sort himself out unsuccessfully. The mention of his name brought him slightly back to awareness. He smiled awkwardly as Alacrity leaned closer to him. His features were altered by the magic to give him a stunning appearance. Sometimes in the literal since, yet he still managed to look awkward somehow.
" She's right though, vehicles tend to lead short lives when under my careful care. It turns out breakers and possessors both are surprisingly hard objects."
"I mourn that which may have been but will never be."

"Stupidity is a wound that bleeds forever; Intelligence is a blade that stays forever sharp"

"An armed man will kill and unarmed man with monotonous regularity"

"Nothing adds a little class to a sniper course like a babe in a Ghillie suit."

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it."

"Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets. I may get killed with my own gun, but he's gonna have to beat me to death with it, 'cause it's going to be empty."

“So you’re a regular bear bait, ain’t you?” James said, chuckling at Alacrity’s and Thane’s comments. “But fortunately, you gotta have a class A license to drive a tractor trailer and I doubt you has one. But yeah, I own a rig. It’s an old bulldog, a MACK tractor sold to me cheap by a friend who was retirin’. It’s old, but I make sure to keep it workin’ well. I’m currently between hauls at the moment. After I met Gol, I finished up my haul, and drove here bobtailed. Anyway, if we’re goin’ to Alaska, I’d like to find a trailer to haul up there. I’ve got some money stored away, but only so much, and diesel’s expensive. But there’s room enough for all of us in the cab and sleeper.”

James paused, while taking another drink from his mug. He wiped the foam off his mustache with one arm. He considered this group of people. It was strange, he had never seen any of them before today. Yet, there was a sense of trust among them, Golion’s assurances aside. If they asked, he would take them to Alaska if needed. But part of him still urged caution. “I’ll need to get my truck prepped for the cold weather, tires, chains, and such. Gettin’ ourselves some warmer clothin’ couldn’t hurt either. Anyway, I gotta ask. Why do you want to go to Alaska anyway?”

(A note on the CB radio slang James uses
Bear bait: a reckless driver. Comes from referring to policemen as Smokey Bears.
Bulldog: A MACK truck, called so for it's hood ornament.
Bobtailed: A tractor without a trailer)

Aizel felt his senses perk at the mention of Alaska. Just as curious as James was, the introvert felt himself staring awefully at Alacrity and Thane. He could only begin to scratch the surface of comprehending what those two must have experienced. They spoke with the wisdom and ferocity of a warrior.
And indeed, the male had never killed. Merely the thought of blood covering his hands...it was awful. He began to tremble yet again.
Not even Calice's words were enough to calm him. Aizel heard the calm echo of the wolf's voice bounce across the walls of his subconcious to no avail.
Timidly he stared at the plate of food he'd ordered while the adults had talked, and with great enthusiasm, Aizel had finished his pizza in the blink of an eye.
Running his tounge over his sharp incisors, the introvert listened in on the others conversing, not wanting to miss any information.

"What's in Alaska?" The male suddenly quipped, jutting into the conversation nearly in tune with James's question. Still stroking the top of the stuffed animal's head, the teen cocked his head at an angle as if to physically accent his inquiry.

Alacrity laughed, it was wonderful having the company. "Bear bait, to be sure friend. It has been hounding us since we met in New York. The first day we met, Thane used his bike to take down a breaker. We barely got out before the cops arrived, and then they chased us out of town."

As they talked, she could feel Thanes emotions. He had pulled back his thoughts to join the conversation with the others. But, she still sensed an inner turmoil, as if he feared her on some level. She still made him nervous. She was almost going to move away a bit, but El told her not to worry. She tried to squash the uneasy feeling, but then an even more uncomfortable thought slammed her mind from out of nowhere. What would she do without him there, if he were gone? For a second her heart clenched, before she forced the fear away. He was here, and everything would be fine.

"That's a wonderful offer James. It would be much more comfortable than cooped up in my little car. We could probably save on hotels too. I don't know about Thane, but I don't seem to have a problem with the cold anymore. In fact I am roasting in here. The cold weather will be a blessing. As far as Alaska my new friends, that is where the Wielders are congregating. There is safety in numbers. We were surprised to find you, most new Wielders are destroyed. It takes a while for your power to grow strong enough to defend yourself. The breakers seem to work in groups, you would never survive on your own. The best thing to do is keep moving, and feed."

He could still feel the outer waves of Alacrity's emotions from where he sat. The link was not as closed off as he had thought, it seemed he wasn't sure how to close it. Yet in the background Sirl seemed to simply be smiling, if a presence in one's head could be said to do such a thing. Her emotions seemed distressed in some way. With the thought of her in distress he automatically brought the link in closer, forcing his moderation of the link they now shared to supply whatever warmth of emotion he could. He couldn't bear to feel her distress, he couldn't even bear to think of her in distress theoretical or not.
What is wrong, has something happened?

The conversation continued nearly immediately though, so he relaxed the sudden forced closeness of minds that had been present moments ago. His magical bear hug relaxed to simple closeness. For that moment he didn't think about the fact that the idea of doing something that would offend her made her nervous.
Incredibly nervous, he didn't want to step over whatever bounds did exist.
" The word feed makes me think of vampires. We definitely need a better work than that. I may have fangs." He bared his fangs there, the oddly colored teeth glinting in the light. " But I do not suck blood, or as far as I can tell anything else.
As for Alaska getting their is essential for several reasons. Yes the wielders are collecting there, and also a continuous battle is being fought there. The strongest of all the factions will be there. Both of the other factions trying to wipe ours off the map."

"What is wrong, has something happened"? It was accompanied by a flooding of warmth, well being.

It was strange having two conversations at once, but she didn't want Thane distressed.

Nothing really, I just sensed your turmoil. I frighten you, don't I? That bothered me. So I pulled away. This is all so strange. I was just getting use to El in my mind. It is a little unnerving being this close to someone. Then the thought of loosing you crossed my mind, and I panicked. That is all. You have become too important to loose, I don't want to scare you away. The truth is, I like this feeling of closeness with you. It is more tangible than what I feel with El, but I am afraid of pushing too hard, and driving you away. I guess I'm just unsure of myself...and you. There it was out in the open, he could close himself off or not, but at least he knew. If they were going to be in each others thoughts, they would have to let their guard down. Just as they had with Sirl and El. She just never expected to have another human in her thoughts.

"Well, what next guy's? Do we head for Alaska come morning?"

“Well, if we’re leavin’ tomorrow morn, I’d better get to sleep tonight,” James said. “I’ll need to get up early to prep the truck for another long haul. I’m pretty sure I can find somethin’ to haul to some city on the way.” He paused a moment to ask the waiter to bring the bill for the food. “Anyway, I’m goin’ now. If ya need to reach me, I’ll be stayin’ at the motel two blocks down, and I got my cell phone.” James said, taking out a pen and a scrap of paper and writing down his phone number for the others.

He paused again, as the waiter returned with the bill. James payed for all their food with cash, and left a tip on the table. Finishing off the last of his beer, he slid out of the booth was about to leave. However, he paused and glanced back at the other three. Thane and Alacrity looked like they could fend for themselves well enough. Heck, they were veterans to this business compared to him. The boy though, Aizel, caused him some concern. James, though new to the weilder business, was at least used to roaming the roads on his own in his career. Aizel, however, still seemed uncertain and unsettled by the situation.

“Hey, Aizel. You got a place to stay tonight?” James asked. “The room I rented has a second bed. Why don’t you stay with me?”

Listening to the voice in his mind Thane had nothing to say. His heart felt like it was constricting harder than usual, beating faster than usual. He felt like he had wronged her, like his ideas had all been wrong. Somehow his idea of what had been right for her feelings didn't seem right. When he had thought he kept himself safe behind a boundary that kept her from realizing what had become of the mess that was his mind. He had actually led her to believe the exact opposite of what he felt. Now she was unsure of him, she didn't have any faith in him. The very idea depressed him, it nearly sent him running back to the safety of his own mind. However instead he connected again more fully. What he said wasn't much, but hopefully it would be enough for him to figure out what was going on in his own head.
You could never push me away, you don't have to worry about me leaving, or ever hating you.

With that he turned back to the conversation actually being conducted with words. It seemed that at least one of them was clearing off to a hotel room. Alacrity and Thane had their hotel room to return to, and Thane looked forward to the rest, even if it was on the floor. He smiled at the other man as he got ready to leave, standing as he did.
" I think it is time for Alacrity and I to leave as well, we can meet up again in the morning."
"I mourn that which may have been but will never be."

Her thoughts were torn between Thane and their new friends, right up to the moment when Thane responded. What had previously been a tentative touch, opened up into much more.

You could never push me away, you don't have to worry about me leaving, or ever hating you.

It would seem they were both a bit frightened. She replied to him in like manner, I could never hate you either Thane. It was a short response, but heartfelt. She turned to say bye to James and Aizel, but Thane spoke first and she let it go at that. With everything that was happening she really wanted to be in a more private setting. It was disconcerting discussing such personal matters in front of the other two, even if they didn't know it was going on.

As they made their way back to the hotel, she shoved James' number in her pocket. Once out of the crowded atmosphere of the diner she let down her guard, and opened her mind to Thane. Letting her feelings rise to the surface, she allowed him access to places only El knew. It was easier to believe Thane than she would have thought, but would his words prove true?. After her fiance leaving her because of the change, she hadn't realised how much it had actually hurt. She had held on to that feeling of inadequacy, thinking she would forever be different, unlovable. The only comfort she would ever have was El. She willfully put her trust in Thane, when he said he would never hate her. All the protective walls Alacrity had built to safeguard her heart, came tumbling down. She was ready to trust.
