Player name : Fortis

Character Name : James Greenson

Age: Mid thirties

Gender: Male

Appearance: James is a large man, standing at six foot three. He is well muscled, but also possesses a small pot belly as well. He has rather short brown hair and a large beard, bushy eyebrows and a large nose. He generally wears a brown bomber jacket, a plain t shirt, blue jeans, a leather belt, and working boots.

Personality: Coarse, blunt, and rough, but friendly in a back slapping sort of way. Given the amount of solitude that his job requires, he particularly enjoys the company of others. That being said, he does have a rather short fuse, and simply refuses to put up with fools or jerks.

Side: Merging of the worlds

Power Form: Wielder

Otherworlder Type: Cyclops (Named Golion)

Powers Afforded by manifestation: Manipulation of stone and metal. It should be noted that when he exerts himself to use his powers, his eyes come together to become a cyclops’ eye.

Short History: James was a simple man who grew up in the southwest US. He grew up in a low to middle class family. When he finished high school, he wanted to attend college in hopes of getting a degree in science, but his family couldn’t afford it. To support himself, and to help raise money to cover the tuition, James started a job as a truck driver. For many years, he’s had this job, and has even obtained his own eighteen wheeler. However, he still is saving his cash in hopes of getting a higher education.

One day, though, while in the middle of a long haul across the states, his life would abruptly change.

Roleplaying Sample: “Ugh,” James groaned, rolling over in the cheap hotel bed. His head throbbed and he felt nauseous. The light left on in the bathroom seemed particularly garish in his eyes. “That’s th’ last time I get drunk after a long haul…” James grumbled, sitting up in his bed. The movement caused a new wave of nausea and pain to roll over him. “Ohhh…at least that blasted voice stopped talkin’. That was some strong beer…I gotta get some breakfast…” Sluggishly, he began making his way to the hotel room’s tiny kitchen.

James…

“What th’…” James said, startled. He came to a halt.

James, heed me…

“Oh for god’s sake! Go away! I ain’t drunk!” James moaned, shaking his head despite the ache it caused. “I can’t be hearin’ things!”

I am real, James…I need you…

“No, no! Go away! I’ve got a long day ahead of me!” James protested, holding his head.

I am real, James…I can prove it…Look upon your face…

James didn’t argue, but stumbled into the bathroom. With an aching head, he looked up into the mirror. His jaw dropped, and his face paled. “Sweet mother of…” He mumbled in utter disbelief.

His face had changed. Rather than the two eyes set in their usual sockets, James now had but one. It was larger than either of his eyes, and set right in between where his eyes should have been, in the middle of his forehead. It blinked. James shut his eye, and tried to feel with one hand where his eyes should have been. He felt only smooth skin, no sign of even the bony orbit of the eye. “Change me back…I don’t know what you are but change me back…” James pleaded. He closed his eye.

When he opened his eyes, he found his face back to normal. He had two eyes once again, in their familiar places. He felt his forehead, but everything was as it should be. “Did…did that really happen?” James asked himself.

Why do you continue to doubt me?

“Because this is damned impossible! Because I’ve been drinking like a mule last night!” James shouted, slamming a hand down on the bathroom counter. A tile cracked under his fist. “Why don’t you leave me alone!?”

Because I need you James. You are the only one I could reach. A grave danger is coming to your world, but I will help you to stop it.

“Danger? What danger? How do you know of this danger? Just who are you anyway?” James asked. He was still angry, but at least he was getting some answers now.

I am Golion, an inhabitant of a different world. Though I do not fully understand how, our worlds have become linked. However, many fear this link. Since they do not understand this link, the do not know how to break it, save for one way.

“By smashin’ one end of it. Is that what you’re trying to say?” James asked.

Indeed. Through fear and greed, they seek to undo earth. But they misjudged earth’s ability to resist, and have opened my world to peril as well. A war is coming, it may already be here. And unless we act it will mean the death of billions.

“Yeah, but why me? I ain’t cut out for this! Go talk to the president or somethin’,” James said.

We could not reach your lords. Few minds can be contacted. Yours, however, was in an opened, weakened state a short while…What? Laughter? What do you find humorous about this?

“That is absolutely the last time I get drunk after a long haul!” James said, laughing to himself. Despite his hangover and this voice predictions of doom, the ridiculousness of the situation simply could not be ignored. “Who’da think that the ambassador would be chosen on account of bein’ drunk off his butt! I feel like I’m in a cheesy sci-fi movie!”

This is not the time for laughter. Your kind is in grave danger! You must believe me!

“Ah, keep your pants on. I'll buy it. How couldn’t I after that eye trick?” James said, getting control of himself. “Alright Gol, let me get rid of this hangover, then you tell me what you need me to do.”

In the diner, James leaned back in the booth he was sitting. Casually, he took another sip from the mug of beer he had ordered, and watched the news on a TV set up against one wall. On the table before him was a mostly finished hamburger and a partially eaten side of fries. For all intents and purposes, it appeared that he had simply come for a good meal.

However, if one looked closely, one could notice several subtle things. The particular table he chose commanded a good view of the whole diner, while having no windows or such behind it. Whenever someone entered or left, he would glance up to see who it was. And at times, it seemed he was whispering to himself.

“God, how much longer are they gonna take?” James whispered to himself while raising the mug to his lips again.

Patience, they have just fought a hard battle. One of them will come soon. Golion replied. Golion didn’t speak, his words weren’t written, or even heard. James simply knew.

“Yeah, it’s just that I’m gonna get kicked out soon. The people here don’t care for loiterers,” James replied softly.

If you are impatient, I could find- Golion began, but James cut him off.

“Oh hell no! I’m in a public restaurant! I can’t be gettin’ all one eyed,” James whispered tersely, leaning his head down and covering his forehead, just in case Golion’s manifestation began to take place. “Just let me know if you see one of them.”

Against his better wishes Alacrity dragged him off to a room, he let her do it, he didn't have the energy to fight her. He could have done it himself he wasn't seriously injured, much of the energy that kept him going anymore had been expended with the management of the injury. He didn't even feel it anymore, but he understood that he wasn't nearly at the top of his game. However when they reached the room and she talked about getting food he bounced immediately from the bed. He could move on his own despite what she obviously seemed to think about his injuries.

Pushing his foot more fully into the boot she had tried to remove he checked himself for excessive blood stains and such things. Finding nothing but the blood on his face and hands he moved to wash it off quickly before approaching her again.
" I'm going to head to the diner with you. I know I'm not in the best of shape, but I'm just tired, I don't feel like sitting in a room by myself while you go and get food. I can walk on my own, although I must thank you for the care you so freely give."

He grinned at her letting his words hang and moved towards the door. Food sounded good, a fresh juicy steak would be nice, but food in general sounded good. He needed food and a little relaxation before h got moving towards the next fight. They weren't making very good time, they kept getting in fights they weren't prepared for. The magic coursing through their systems was like a drug they could barely control. However they were good, he knew that much from the fact that they were still alive. If they weren't good they would have been killed a long time ago.

"Really Thane, you had me worried." She slapped playfully at him. "Next time let me know you're not that bad off. I just need some food, and a little rest then I'll be as good as new. Better even! Let's go then, I think the restaurant might be closing soon."

As she crossed the street, she slowed down near the curb, reaching for Thane's arm. "Do you feel that?" Her skin began to turn a bit bluer, and her temperature dropped. "There is someone in there. Someone weak, non-hostile. I think it might be a wielder. I was beginning to wonder just how out numbered we were. It seems odd that we haven't encountered any."

Continuing forward, she opened the door, and the warm rush of food scented air flooded over her. Alacrity paid it no mind, but began scanning the customers. She pointed toward the back of the diner, and headed in his direction. He was a large man with a face full of hair. She had to do a double-take. Was that one eye?

There they are. My allies are with them. Golion said.

“Yeah, yeah. I told you not to butt in. Kill the eye. Now,” James whispered annoyed, leaning on the table in front of him. He used a hand cover his forehead, hiding his cyclopean eye and the empty spots where his eyes should have been. He felt his face rapidly shifting back to normal, but still used his hand to surreptitiously feel his eyes to make sure his eyes were back to where they were supposed to be. With his face back in order he looked up.

He saw the two of them, a man and a woman, coming in his direction. Had they noticed his eye? But if they were the allies Golion spoke of, then that wouldn’t matter. There was something about them anyway, Golion’s word aside. As they approached, it felt like the diner turned on it’s air conditioning. He took another drink from his mug and waved the two over.

“Hey, didn’t think you’d come,” James said as they got close. “If you’re old enough, I’ll order you a drink, they’ve got good stuff on tap here. Anyway, I was told to meet you here.”

Walking along side her he could feel them, but he could feel both presences, human and being alike. Together but separate, they were still relatively weak, and enemy or ally they posed no threat to the two of them. Even in the weakened condition that they were in. Her cold hand on his arm seemed right, strange as it was he felt comfortable with her. She was one of the few friends he had ever had, he felt close to her and thoughts of it made him uncomfortable. So without further though he smiled at her and stepped into the diner. His eyes quickly scanned the inhabitants and rested on the source of the power. He then abandoned the search when he saw the man approaching them. He looked ready to talk to them sure enough, and when he did Thane was hardly surprised.

Thane gave the man a grin, turning on the odd powers of his sight on the man accidentally. He could hardly control the power of his own appearance sometimes. As the man asked about a drink Thane sighed and winked at the man.
" A drink, now that sounds like something I could go for. However how you were told to meet us here I don't know, it would be difficult to know that we are who you were told to meet." Reaching his hand out to the man he immediately identified himself. His identity was hardly important, the man would either kill him or not. " My name is Thane, it's nice to meet you here on this fine day."

Alacrity was as mystified as Thane, about how the new wielder knew they were coming. As she reached out to shake his hand, she understood. "Your symbiont is strong. It probably sensed us Thane, but their bond is too weak for our new friend here to sense it as well. Remember in the beginning, how we had to talk back and forth? But as the merging has progressed it has grown less. El's thoughts are becoming my own. I hadn't really been paying that close attention with everything that has happened."

The smell of the food was catching up with her ravenous hunger. "I'll take you up on that drink. I'm Alacrity. I hope you don't mind if we eat, I'm faint with hunger." She slid into the red Naugahyde booth, and grabbing the menus from behind the condiments she handed one to Thane. A few minutes later she was busy giving the waitress the order. She couldn't make up her mind so she smiled cordially, and ordered a chicken fried steak dinner with a rootbeer, and fish and chips with a Guinness stout. The woman seemed a bit jittery with the three of them, but they were an odd looking set of people. Alacrity's skin was still a light blue color, and while her face had reverted to a somewhat human appearance, her hair was in a that wild white Mohawk mane. It seemed that James was having trouble with his eyes. They would have to get him fed soon, he was much too weak. First she wanted to know more about him than El was able to discover with the hand shake.

"Please, James tell us about yourself. We've seen a lot of breakers, and a few possessors. You're the first wielder we've come across since we met a week ago.

“James Greenson,” James said, shaking their hands. “Symbiont, huh? Good a name as any I suppose. Anyway, I’ll tell you what I know, but let’s sit down first. Order what you want, it’ll be on me. Oh, and tell El that Golion says hi,” James said, walking back to his booth and sliding into the seat. He had already eaten, but he went ahead and ordered another mug of beer. He took a moment to look around the diner.

I can sense no others here Golion said.

“Good to know,” James mumbled, covering his face in case Golion started messing with his eyes again. Fortunately, they stayed in their usual places, and he put his hand down. “Anyway, about myself. Up till about a week ago, I was just a professional driver, haulin’ freight across the US to pay the bills. Nothin’ remarkable, really. However, at the end of one long haul, I woke up one mornin’ to find this freeloader in my head.” James said, tapping the side of his head. He paused a moment as a waiter came with his beer.

“Good service here,” James said as the waiter left again. “Anyway, I kinda get the feelin’ that Gol’s a novice at this sort of stuff. He’s strong, but he’s still green. Hell, the only reason he chose me was that I was drunk stupid at the time, though he uses such terms as ‘more open and accessible.’ After he convinced me he wasn’t a figment of my hangover, he started tellin’ me a lot about stuff that was goin’ on. I don’t entirely understand it, and I don’t think he does either, but I learned about this link or somesuch between earth and some other place. Long story short, lots of people think it’s gotta be one or the other, but Gol says he’s tryin’ to save both.”

“I get the feelin’ a fight’s comin’. Now, I enjoy a good brawl as much as the next guy, but I ain’t no soldier. But for whatever reason, here I am. I don’t know what all a truck driver can do, but I’ll be damned if I sit this one out. Thane, Alacrity, I want to help you keep these two worlds from offin’ each other.”

Thane sat down at the booth with the rest of them sliding in next to Alacrity. He sat close to her, it just seemed right to do so, they had been through so much together. As he did he smiled at the man.
" You James have just made yourself some friends, we would be glad of your aid of course. We plan to do the same, you want this now. You cannot imagine how much you will come to desire this merging, how much it means to us. My friend Sirl was able to learn a little about your companion when we made contact. He is a resourceful fellow, and while his voice is still prominent in my mind, we can pass information without words being necessary. You do indeed have a strong and old companion at your side. What this means is that for all his power to be present fully here, and for the two of you together to become the two that is one, then it will take more time then it does for the weaker beings, symbiotes I suppose.

Sirl is a creature of magic, I can't even pronounce his full name and I wouldn't want to try. He studies magic and as such, he has discovered some about this spell enough for me to understand this at least. The humans and the otherworlders must use pure magic to merge, to combine as one individual. The more magic that they gather, contain, and assimilate, the more they merge and the more of the powers of the otherworlder are brought into the world. The merge is a strange magic all it's own, the two individuals slowly become one in many ways, but separate in others. Even at the highest extent of the merge this will be true. This mild separation allows for a partial one, that separates the one into two minds and allows the human side to show through the body, to be dominate instead of the merged body. You see us now with the human in us dominate, the eye that forms is the dominance of the combination."

Giving a look around those gathered in the diner he ordered himself a glass of scotch should they have it and turned back to the man. As he turned he glanced at the others around the establishment. Those that had once looked on with awe or fear turned away with smiles on their faces. No longer worried about the strange group sitting in the corner. He quickly returned to his conversation smiling at the others.
" The merge allows several things, the more full the merge the more capable the combination is physically. So those with less powers who merge more fully more quickly, are more agile, often stronger, and often more physically capable overall. However those of us with more to assimilate we have more power in the long run.
I'm telling you this because my companion and I have worked out the information." He laughed looking to himself as if listening to a voice within his head. "Actually Sirl did most of the thinking, I mostly just kill things. I haven't even had a chance to explain all of this to Alacrity, and with new allies I find it a fitting time to reveal such information. By traveling with us you will attract more danger to yourself, and your opponents will be more comfortable, even if they are forcing themselves on the other part of their being. I hope that you can understand some of this early on, so none of it will come as a surprise in the future. I want you to know things before you join us. If you want to know more you need only to ask. What I know is yours as well, even as it that of my greatest friend. however there is still not much that we know about the battle overall, and we are still searching for a way to end it in our favor. Do you understand?"

He had been speaking for a while by that point, and his drink was almost gone. He smiled at Alacrity, hoping that she agreed with his decision to impart information to the man. The man seemed an ally, and even if he turned out to be an enemy Sirl assured him that his defeat would be swift. Sirl was by that point ashamed of himself, he had become more cavalier about his duties he intended to stay with Thane through everything. To die with Thane if need be and be glad in the doing of it.
It was then that he noticed that Alacrity was within his haze. He had never thought of it before but the haze was part of him, could they communicate through it? He reached out his mind, Sirl assisting him, and both were only mildly surprised to find El waiting on the other end. Hopefully Alacrity would speak to him as well. You are not mad at me for trusting this man I hope. I regret that I did not ask this earlier. I don't want to anger you in any way. You are my only friend.

Alacrity sensed a bit of change in Thane. He wasn't so jumpy around her tonight. She was pleasantly surprised when he scooted close to her in the booth. But what had caused the change? Did it matter? He was her closest friend. With what they had shared, he was closer to her than even her fiance had been. There had been a sharing when they merged with Sirl and El, the four of them as one, that surpassed even the flash. Her mind drifted as Thane related some of the conclusions they had come to. She began to wonder if things were different between them because they had been feeding together. Her thoughts drifted back to the first feeding they had joined together in, how he had grabbed her hand and shared his bliss with her. It had seemed only natural after that to continue, but was it? Or was it creating something more intimate than they were aware of? El was strangely quiet about the matter.

Of a sudden, there was a third voice in her head. She turned, recognising it as belonging to Thane, but he was't talking, just smiling. Somehow he was in her mind. It felt nice, like being held. She smiled back, leaning toward him slightly. Not at all. I trust your judgement. You have never given me cause to be angry. Well except maybe for smashing my car. But her mind was full of humor. Hopefully he could sense her teasing. You are more than a friend, you seem almost part of me. Her hand had reached for his his. Oh my, this could get awkward. She hadn't intended to say or do that, her thoughts just jumped out as actions. "I'm sorry." She withdrew her hand, glad that the food had arrived and ended a situation that might have been uncomfortable for him. She had liked the sensation of him in her thoughts. It was comfortable, complete. She could sense El's contentment as well.

She looked back at the burly trucker. James had a sweet nature about him that inspired trust. He just seemed straight forward and honest, almost shy. "We'd be glad for the help, and company. Don't you worry about your looks either, you should have seen us an hour ago." She laughed out loud, "You'd have fainted on the spot. Although, I think I'm a bit prettier than Thane, when I'm all gussied up and blue.
