“I’m ready to go whenever you are,” James said, looking up from the crystal sphere he had created and was experimenting with. He briskly stuffed the sphere into a pocket. “And can the jokes, I ain’t in the mood for them. Come on.” He added, a bit gruffly. He strode to his truck and unlocked it. He climbed up to the driver’s seat, and lifted his suitcase into the back sleeper compartment. “One of you can ride in the passenger seat, the other two in the sleeper.” He said, fumbling a moment with his keys. Gol, you there? James thought as he started up his truck. I am always here, James. Golion replied. This new guy, he ain’t a wielder, is he? He feels different. Kinda like those things we fought, the ones that killed …James began, but he trailed off. The pain was still too fresh and potent for James. He leaned his head against the steering wheel a moment, closing his eyes. He’s a breaker. He has dominated the other. But that’s not what you wanted to talk about, is it? Golion said. James, we are closer than before. I can feel your grief, your anger and guilt. Golion, I can’t help but feel responsible for Aizel. He shoulda stayed with Thane and Alacrity. I shoulda known I couldn’t have protect him. I shoulda fought harder to protect him. That boy died ‘cause I screwed up. James thought at length. No, James. Aizel died because of the possessors. You did everything you can to save him. He had a chance with you. His death would have been certain had he been on his own. …You’re right, I guess. Still… James thought. After a moment, he brought his head up. There was still the ache of sorrow and guilt, and the anger at himself, but he hid the emotions under a poker face. “Sorry, Gol and I were talkin’,” James said, after a deep breath. He looked to see if everyone who was coming with him had gotten on the truck. “Got everythin’ you need?” |

Quickening his pace to match James and join him at reaching the truck he climbed aboard quickly, slipping back into the sleeper automatically, hopefully Alacrity would join him there, and he could watch the other from that position more easily as well. Somehow he couldn't bring himself to allow any of the others to slip behind his back and sit there. No he would watch the man from there and wait, and if Alacrity chose to push that one back here and take the front herself that was her place to do so. Either way he would still be on at least equal footing with the one that he so far had no reason to trust, and that feeling of suspicion he hoped he would find reason to shake soon enough. If he never found that reason the tension might very well cause him to snap, the moment Alacrity had run off he'd started to feel the weight of his release of the bond with Sirl. Exhaustion wasn't quite setting in but he certainly felt less comfortable in his own skin or his own mind without her their. It was almost as if she had become as critical a part of him as his outer-world friend. Once in the back he waved to James, realizing that he could easily try and hijack the surface thoughts of the man, but not truly read them. The most he could do was sense the man's emotions, and how he felt towards Thane at that moment. Yet all he found was neutrality all around, something that meant nothing to him for it could go either way. " Let's get moving James, if Alacrity thinks she can catch up she can. If she hasn't caught up soon I'll go back for her and you can continue on." |

Alacrity almost panicked when she felt Thane moving away. It was bad enough being far enough from him that she lost his thoughts. Bereft, it almost felt as though she was having a limb ripped away from her body. If El hadn't been with her she would have broken down. She had no idea it would be this bad to be separated from him. Come to think of it, they had been together since the moment they met, barely out of eye sight. You are far closer than humans ever get. They do not know what it is like to become one. We will all know, the four of us we are growing together. Thane and Sirl will be one, as will you and I. But I think you and Thane will be one with Sirl and I as well. It will make us very strong. This is unusual, I had not heard of it happening before coming here. Now hurry, find Thane and Sirl, their absence is beginning to hurt me as well. She shoved the duffel bag into the back seat and started the car just as the police went sirening by. Careful to not draw attention to herself, she turned at the first corner heading away from the hotel. Turning right a block later however, was the wrong move, a second patrol car waved her to the side. She could feel the distance separating her and Thane, If she stopped it might give him and the others time to escape. If she took off they would surely pursue her. She stopped. The first officer remained in the vehicle, ready to give chase should she try and run. The other cop, gun drawn tapped on her window, "Ma'am I'm going to have to ask you to step out of the car." He kept the gun trained on her, as she stood up. "What's the matte..." before she could finish he had shoved her against the trunk of her car and was attempting to cuff her. She was about to struggle when El broke loose flooding through her. Within a few seconds she was now taller than the officer, ice dripping from her pores. While wresting her hands away from him the ridges at the back of her neck released some of the poison she had gathered from the creature she just killed. The officer fell to the ground almost instantly, but the other cop was getting out of the car to fire at her. "Stop, or I'll shoot!" She dove back toward the drivers seat. A bullet impacted her shoulder, the next one took out the car window. Screeching in pain, she made it into the drivers seat, slammed the stick into reverse and rammed the patrol car. The impact caused his door to hurl him to the street. Tires squealing and burning rubber for half a block she drove in a frenzied panic. Her mind screamed, desperately seeking Thane, he seemed so far away....her foot hit the floor board. A semi-frozen blue liquid seeped from the hole in her shoulder. "Thane..." she mumbled over and over "...must find Thane." |

Billy turned the corner on his motorcycle just in time to see the female that was with the group ram her car into a local patrol car. He had heard the gunfire, and had immediatly grown worried. He had also instantly felt the power she had pulled on to help get away. Only one thing worried him now. Billy was facing his first ethical and moral dilemma since this whole wierd trail of events started. "They can't be left alive to ID her or her car, or we'll never get any peace,"Billy thought. But Billy's blood chilled at the thought of having to kill people who were only doing there job, and probably didn't have any idea of what had just happened. One of them were on the radio already. Billy's first reaction was to use his length of shadows to simply rip the radios away, and has he formed this thought in his mind, that's what he expected to happen. Instead, a ball of sparkling purple lept from his palm. The ball grew in size as it approached it's target until it was roughly the size of a watermelon. When it impacted the patrol car at the rear window, it easily smashed the window, and crushed the dashboard, ripping through the engine, and exploding in a shower of dirt, grass, and sparks at the other end. Billy smiled. A smile so cold that, if he didn't know any better, sucked a degree or two out of the very air itself. He fired a second shadowball at the officer. It struck the surprised officer and crushed his chest, killing him instantly. The other officer had drawn his weapon by this time, and fired a shot at Billy. Billy wasn't sure if the officer was scared, or new, but judging from the wet spot on his trousers around his crotch, Billy guessed scared, and he guessed that's why he had missed. Somewhere in the back of Billy's mind, something grew excited at this, but Billy pushed the thought away. With barely a thought, Billy passed through the shadow of the first patrol car, and appeared behind the second officer in the shadow of the second car. A demon shaped shadow flickered across Billy's eyes as he called his shadow blade forth and severed the officers nerves at his neck, killing him instantly. Billy felt the life force leave, but it brought him no joy or pleasure the way killing another breaker or possessed had. But Billy didn't have time to mourn them. He quickly jumped back on his motorcycle and raced after the female. |

“Huh, looks like Billy had his own ride,” James said with a shrug. “Looks like its just you and me Thane. Do me a favor and keep back in the sleeper. I understand you’re a hot item, it wouldn’t do to have the police see you riding with me.” James turned the key, starting up the engine. Buckling his seat belt, he drove out of the parking lot. And none too soon. Moments after he was down the road, several police cars pulled up to the hotel. A few minutes later he was at the warehouse. The trailer was waiting for him there, already loaded up with goods to transport north. James briefly got out of the truck and met with a man to go over a few last technicalities. It didn’t take long to sort them out, and James signed for the trailer. Getting into his truck again, James gently backed it up. There was a clunk, and the trailer was neatly hooked up to James’ truck. He waved to the man before driving off. “Well, Thane, I’m good to go now. Give Alacrity a call, and I’ll meet up with her,” James said, his truck out on the road once more. “The sooner we get outta this town, the better. I don’t like bein’ on the wrong side of the law.” |

((Sorry about the modding, I'm just doing a little jump as I've been told we Fortis could be out for a bit.)) Riding in the sleeper of the eighteen wheeler Thane only waited until they were just out of the town before giving Alacrity a call. Why the superhuman freaks were forced to carry around phones when they could speak telepathically and feel each other in their head Thane could only wonder, and the very thought caused the insane and newly cheerful voice of Sirl to laugh outrageously within his head. The call was uneventful, but through the distant link he could feel her pain, and in her voice he could hear the stress. Something had gone wrong already, and as they neared a motel of some sort a few miles outside of town he waved James to the side and was already barreling out as they rolled to a stop. They would be stopping there for the night, he still had enough money on his strange half-human person to buy himself a room, one that he would probably share with Alacrity, and even James if such things became necessary. As he waited for James to get out and get moving he stood by the door, key to his room spinning on it's ring about his finger as he waited for Alacrity to come home to him. Whoever had hurt her was either dead already or chasing her, and if it showed up here even exhausted he would smear it across the ground like so much dust. Hoping his worry didn't filter through the strained and distant bond he waited and watched, hands nervously fiddling with the key and his strange charisma causing him to radiate anger and threat. |

She sensed Thane was steadily getting closer. They must have pulled over and stopped. Alacrity practically cried out loud. She had begun to panic that she would pass out long before reaching him. She had felt bad leaving Billy behind with the cops, but he seemed to be catching up with her. It was incidental compared to Thane however, and her thoughts again sought him out. A few more minutes and she was approaching a motel, with James truck out front. And Thane! She sloppily pulled into a parking place, falling forward onto the steering wheel for a moment before trying to open the door. El had let go as soon as she saw the hotel and she was quickly reverting to Alacrity. The only thing holding her together was Thane calling her home. She stumbled out of the car, and headed straight for him. Her mind calling for the welcoming feel of his encompassing aura. Though the wound was painful she couldn't help but grab on and hug him as if he'd been gone for a year. She knew and felt Sirl too, but it was Thane that completed her thoughts. "Our things are all in the duffel in the back seat. Thane we need to ditch the car. The cops had me. I'm sure they have the license on the car now. They'll know me, where ever I go. I think Billy may have killed them, but it would have been too late." She started to slump, her injury fatiguing her. "I need to lay down and try to heal, but please, you can't go with the car. It hurt too bad being that far from you." Her eyes sought his. "If I ever suggest that we split up again. Knock me out and drag me with you. Even El felt disoriented with the loss. See if James can ditch the car. Billy can give him a ride back on his bike maybe." She smiled up at him, "I feel ever so much better now." Then her strength gave out and she fell limply against him. |

“My God, Alacrity!” Thames exclaimed, seeing her stumble from the car and into Thane’s hands. He was shocked y the extend of her injury, but he dare not call for an ambulance. If what she said was true, she would be picked up by the police for sure. Hearing what Billy did only caused his worry to worsen. He rushed to his truck to pull out a first aid kit and ran back to Thane and Alacrity. But he had no skill in healing, Gol’s magic simply wasn’t oriented that way. Hopefully Thane, who was more powerful than he, could help her. Worst case scenario, he’d have to find a doctor to bring to her. “I’ll do it. Here, Thane, see what you can do for her,” James said, giving the first aid kit to him and taking the car keys from Alacrity. “Leave the car to me. Tell Billy to follow as soon as he arrives.” He got into the car, started it up, and quickly began driving off. “Killin’ cops? Is that boy nuts?” James mumbled to himself as he drove down a country road. He looked for the most isolated back roads he could find, aiming to get as far from civilization as he could, hopefully finding some isolated ditch or river he could send the car into, well away from their hotel. Meanwhile, elsewhere, a lone figure was observing James’ drive from the distance. She recognized the link between them. Not one side dominating the other, but an even union. “Traitor…” She hissed, fading into the shadows. Unknown and unseen to James, a shadow began flitting along the roadside in the shade cast by the moonlight, rapidly catching up to James in Alacrity’s car. Edited by Fortis, Apr 14 2009, 09:42 PM.

Standing by the door Thane waited impatiently, and when he felt the beacon of power that was his Alacrity drawing closer he nearly started running to meet it. Instead stilling his frantic mind he spoke carefully with Sirl inside his head, using the strange conversation to calm both himself and the strange creature who shared his body. As the car pulled up he stepped away from the door to meet her, and when she fell into his arms he was ready for her. Her flesh was cold against his skin, the thought caused him to suddenly break into peals of vibrant laughter. Inside his mind the insane voice of Sirl echoed the sound, the strange charisma of their nature distorting even that noise to something beautifully inhuman. His little ice queen was cold, and in that moment he was happy knowing she was alive and with him again. As he embraced her mind with his own he saw and felt the wound even as she began to speak to him. Only her words that the men were already dead stopped him from moving to take their lives as the price for her injury. In his anger and pain that act somewhat endeared the man Billy to him, even as the wanton killing disgusted him. With Sirl in his mind helping him he gently comforted her with his mind, inside the distortion their minds were nearly as close as those of four people could be, and even with his weariness he could comfort her with a mental embrace. As he watched James move away with the car he lifted the first aid kit from the ground and Alacrity both with surprising ease, and as he noticed his hands he realized the explanation. Already the thin pulsing lines marked him as embracing the power of Sirl, without even thinking he had brought Sirl to the front of his mind and taken this form. Inside the small room he gently set her on the bed, using the magic and with Sirl's aid he kept her subdued and drifting in sleep as he began to work on her injured shoulder. Using supplies from the first aid kit he dug the bullet from her shoulder as carefully as possible. Sirl in his own life had acted as a doctor on some few occasions and it was with his careful guidance that Thane worked. It seemed that the Fey Lord's did not heal with their own direct magic, but by using special items in combination with their power, items that didn't exist in Thane's world. Even as carefully as he worked Thane could feel Sirl straining to block the pain from Alacrities mind, and being forced to intercept the pain to do so. As he removed the bullet and carefully began to bind the slowly oozing wound he hoped that Sirl had succeeded in blocking the pain from his friends. Even at the personal pain Thane could not find himself wishing even discomfort on Alacrity, and as he settled her on the bed to rest he realized that he would do anything to protect her. Settling himself into a chair to watch over her slumber he watched her peaceful sleep and waited for the night to pass. Yet even in his vigilance the exhaustion found it's way through, and as the night passed on he too drifted into sleep. |

It didn't take long for Billy to again catch the magical "scent" of the two he had been tracking for weeks now. He followed it to a motel just a few miles down the road. He pulled in just in time to see James pull out of the parking lot with Alacrity's car, and in a hurry. Billy didn't have to guess what the cause of the worry was, he wasnt' sure if he had acted quick enough to stop an APB for the vehicle. He pulled up to Thane just as he scooped up the first aid kit and Alacrity. "Follow James and give him a ride back," Thane said in a gruff and to the point matter. Billy was smart enough and empathic enough to understand the manner with which Thane spoke. It wasn't a request, the statement was instructions that were not open to debate. With a curt nod, Billy raced off after James. Billy followed him for some distance, through winding two lane roads lined with trees on both sides, to finally turn off onto an old, unkept dirt path. Billy hoped that there was a lake or river deep enough for them to dump the car in. Billy was having trouble following James on his motorcycle, and soon lost sight of him around the twists of the road and through the trees. All he could see were the faint red glow of the brake lights as James slowed down to take another corner. The moon was bright tonight, however, and Billy smiled at this. The shadows cast by the moon light were long and deep. Billy almost let himself relax and enjoy the cool breeze blowing across his face from the gentle movement of his motorcycle down the road. He was jolted back to the present though when he noticed a "trail" in the woodline. It was a faint blue-black glow on the ground moving through the trees. Billy instantly called the power of the she-demon he had caged in his head, and the trail became crystal clear against the black and white that the world had become. He stopped his motorcyce, dismounted, and chose a point down the "trail" and shadow walked to it. He began to follow this trail, jumping from shadow to shadow along it, toward James. Billy only hoped he could catch it before it reached James. |
